Hey I've been thinking about this a lot and I wanted to ask you, do you think George was on the autistic spectrum?
Hi there, I apologise for such a late response.
You know, I've thought about that as well. A lot actually. I've been told I could be autistic but haven't been officially diagnosed, so I won't speak on that, but I am neurodivergent. One of the things which drew me to George in the first place was the fact I could relate to certain qualities he had which point in that direction. Namely the way he became obsessive about his interests -- immersing himself in research, watching the same films and tv shows over and over again, losing track of time, using them as a way of connecting with people, etc. and a strong desire for perfection in himself.
Examples of what I'm referring to:
"The thing about George -- and we all feel it strongly now that he’s gone off us -- is that he plunged into things. Whatever he got into, whether it was the sitar and Ravi Shankar or the Maharishi, he walked right in and never looked back."

"When [Olivia] first met George she didn't know what George was talking about half the time, he was always quoting Python or ‘The Producers’. He used to say to Olivia ‘Ah my little Swedish bombshell’ which she explained she obviously didn’t look Swedish, but it was a line from the movie The Producers." — Olivia Harrison in Sydney, Australia (2005)
"Maybe there was just too much to do, but the house and the garden became an obsession with George. He found out everything there was to know about Sir Frank Crisp, how and why he built that extraordinary house and garden, why he wanted to re-create the Blue Grotto of Capri and build a mini Matterhorn in the Oxfordshire countryside. He wanted to get inside Sir Frank’s mind and fit into his old boots, and he seemed to want to do it alone. I can be obsessive, but then I get bored and need a change." — Pattie Boyd, Wonderful Tonight
Whether any of this actually means George was neurodivergent I don't know. It's always made me wonder though. It's difficult because not only do we not know George personally, the concept of there being a wide spectrum didn't become mainstream until after he died. There's such a lot of information nowadays which wouldn't have been available to him.
What you also have to consider is the influence of other factors such as experiencing extreme fame at a young age, growing up in post-war Liverpool, his family, and his introverted personality. He was often said to be very sensitive about his privacy and personal space, but I think most introverted people would struggle with that and being secretive was a common Harrison trait. He struggled to succeed within the school system even though he was smart, but he also grew up in a free-thinking household which would've made the rigidity of the outside world harder.
On the other hand you have quotes like this one from Olivia:
Q: Did George separate his private life from his life as a musician?
OLIVIA: He didn’t separate anything, he knew no boundaries and was very open about everything, sometimes excessively so. Sometimes he said very funny, but rude things, and when I pointed it out to him, he just said, ‘I don’t have a private life, I just don’t know when you can say something.’

What interests me about this is the last line where George says he "doesn't know when you can say something" and that he attributes this quality to being famous. The thing is, we know from various anecdotes he acted this way long before he was famous, and therefore it's unlikely to be the reason he had trouble knowing what was socially appropriate. His mum, Louise, had a reputation for her bluntness as well, so you could argue he got it from her, but I'm not sure that would hold up long into adulthood and after engaging in as many circles as George did. You also can't rule out the possibility of Louise being neurodivergent.
I've noticed all these parts of George come up repeatedly when his friends and family talk about him in every stage of life, and the suggestion he couldn't control it is mentioned several times as well, mostly by Olivia.

To reiterate what I said before, I'm by no means qualified to diagnose anybody and don't claim this to be concrete evidence. However, I hope it might encourage people to take a deeper look into understanding George's behaviour. I find that because there isn't a traumatic childhood to point to, he's not given the benefit of the doubt or afforded the same sensitivity as the other Beatles. People are much quicker to assume he acted out of spite and analysis of him is shallow.

Welcome to the Layton NPC Showdown!
This is a bracket to determine which of the many memorable NPCs from across the Professor Layton games are the greatest.
GAMES INCLUDED: Every game except LBMR. Eternal Diva characters are also not included here.
WHAT COUNTS AS AN NPC?: Anyone who doesn't have a puzzle animation. Characters excluded are Layton, Luke, Flora, Clive, Emmy, Randall, Aurora, Des, Espella, Phoenix, Maya, Katrielle, Ernest, Sherl, Hastings, and Emiliana.
WILL THERE BE NOMINATIONS?: Nope! Every NPC will be included.
WHAT ABOUT THE LAYTONMOBILE/MOLENTARY EXPRESS?: No vehicles. Not characters.
WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE LADS/LASSES?: I only plan on including characters that we can speak to in-game, so no Puzzle Lads or Lasses. Sorry to the people who like them 😔
WHICH CHARACTERS ARE INCLUDED, THEN?: Anyone who isn't an exception listed above that is in the profiles of the game! A full list is enclosed below.
WHEN WILL THE TOURNAMENT START?: More information forthcoming on that! I have to seed the bracket first :)
WHY IS NAIYA YOUR ICON?: In my opinion, she's one of the more underrated NPCs of the series. I'll probably cycle through some of the ones I have available to me right now.
WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD I VOTE ON?: Whatever makes you happy :)
ARE ALTER EGOS SEPERATE CHARACTERS?: No. For instance, Ratman is not included because his secret identity is in the tournament.
US OR UK NAMES?: I will try to make available as many names for the NPCs as possible! Which includes their Japanese names and as many names in the localizations as I am able to obtain from the wiki and my own sources. I'll probably reliably have the English (both versions where applicable), Japanese, and French names for every character when I do the bracket rounds. The list below however is entirely in English.
And now for a list of the entries! I didn't check all of these for inconsistencies, but I attempted to ascertain that I used the US versions. Some of them might be UK versions though because that's the version of the game I have (specifically Diabolical Box NPCs and Last Specter NPCs -- I know some of their US names but not all).

Self-Indulgent Series December: Granite Hills

Hi! I was wondering: what do you think about ESO in terms of lore? I've seen some people hating the game because "Cyrodiil was a jungle" and such, and as a Half-Life/Portal fan I don't understand people so violently putting "canon" above playability. I've only played TESV and ESO so I wanted to know from someone with more knowledge and you also seem to be a rational person. Have a nice day!
Hello! I tend to be very big on lore - after all, I got into teslore before getting into the actual games. I however do not really blame devs for some inaccuracies, the lore for tes is absolutely huge and retcons itself constantly, so minor problems I’m fine with.
I see a lot of hate for ESO in tes fan circles online and how it’s an abomination who murders the good established canon for it’s greedy horrible gameplay, and I disagree with it. ESO is a huge game and did wonders in furnishing it’s world with stories and other trivia. My opinion of it is majorly good (as my 3k+ hours on it can probably tell lmao) but I do have some nitpicks.
First of all...the “crown lore”. ESO has this neat little thing or adding a lore description to it’s items. Crown (cash store for those who dont play ESO) store items also have them and some people will count them as canon. However, if I like the fact they’re relating fancy cosmetics to ingame places and history, the descriptions remain an often shoddy polish that’s added above the big edgy wolf mount they’re trying to sell. I don’t like counting these as cold hard canon lore. I don’t like when people brandish them as a strawman of ESO being shite either.
Second of all, there’s some choices ESO made that kind of tamed down the lore? I understand why they woudln’t want to portray weird shit especially in the base game where it was hard to implement, but it really does feel like some cultures were nerfed from the strange early Tamriel histories to Just Normal because of how everyone joined the alliances. Recently Summerset was a big dissapointement, and even if they remain one of my absolutely favorite races, Bosmer feel like they skipped over how chaotic the people are. (even if it’s probably a good thing when i see how mind boggedly racist r/teslore writes any tamriel “tribal” culture)
And as a final......Morrowind and everything that came after ESPECIALLY including the thrice cursed clockwork city DLC. It’s not a secret that almsivi are among my fav characters, and OG Morrowind remains to this day my most treasured tes game. But it really feels like since the vvardenfell expansion came out, they stopped writing out lore to be creative and started cashing out on tesIII nostalgic fanboys instead. Good for buisiness since morrowind elitists were big on hating on ESO when it launched but oh god does it make for bad writing..they mischaracterize almsivi and clockwork city outright felt like a cringy mess. Here’s a great post that sums up what I hate about it pretty much.
But enough for the bad, time for the good and there’s a lot of it so list format we go :
spotlights for every race, including most excellent ones like argonians and redguard who have big lack of content in tes games
they dug back stuff from enemies to books from older games like daggerfall
the items you steal and quest items all have lovely little descriptions that detail life for tamriel inhabitants in such a good nice simple way that would be hellish to implement
I personally found the MQ boring as hell but the sidequests in vanilla have very fun and interesting tidbits
the Orsinium DLC who i owe my soul to
Maw of Lorkhaj bringing great insight into khajiit religion despite being a raid most people come to to farm. Khajiit are the best and every text and dialog option found in that goddamn dungeon is amazing
craglorn, Ra Gada and Celestials, which I don’t believe to have popped up before ESO. I haven’t finished that zone but i have a great fondness for the lore it introduced
same for the Reach
In your ask, you mention canon over playability and it plays a big big role in how ESO handles lore. ESO is not an elder scrolls game. It’s an MMO set in tamriel. How elder scrolls handle lore cannot be achieved in ESO, due to how they have to format the dungeon and quests to fit multiplayer. The MQ is weak because of that, but strong in how it justifies how your character interacts with the world. Yes there is less to explore and talk about because NPCs don’t have much dialog, but the quest dialog we have is written way better than what TES games usually do...Etc, etc etc. I don’t really have a definite opinion on ESO’s lore, it changes at each new expansion, and varies hugely depending on the zones (and my personal biais too. fuck bretons) but I will continue pissing upon people blindly insulting the game’s writing. It’s nice!
