Last night, my sister referred to Janner as "Schrödinger's protagonist," and I'm still dying.

When I was rewatching Wingfeather episode 4 in preparation for episode 5 steaming tonight, I was struck by the nice bit of foreshadowing from Peet when they were talking about "real names".

Okay, so a while back I finished reading TWatWK.
(Spoilers for the Entire Wingfeather Saga)
And something hit me.
The song, My Love Has Gone Across The Sea, it fits Esben and Nia, as well as Artham and Arundelle.
But I found another couple that it fits even better.
Janner and Sara!
Think about it, Janner LITERALLY sailed across the sea, to another land, that was described as beautiful. Then, at the part of the song, where it says 'The Cord that bound my heart to yours', there's obviously a bond between them, and that's why Janner and Sara are almost always thinking about each other!
Then the last part...
SARA LITERALLY SAILS TO ANNIERA TO FIND OUT JANNER DIED.
I mean, it's always possible (And this is how it ends in my mind) that Janner comes back to life from the Water from the First Well, and he and Sara then start a cute, 13-year-old relationship that grows rapidly and once they're of age they get married.

What was your reaction when you finished reading the Warden and the Wolf King?
Just asking,
Trilliane (P. S. God bless you and keep you!)
*Wingfeather spoilers for book 4 ahead, like seriously, if you don't want the end of the book series fully spoiled for you LOOK AWAY*

Okay, so, first you need to know that I could sense the ending coming and I dreaded it. Guessing plot twists can be fun but sometimes it can also be awful.
I was so angry and distraught and, honestly, outraged, about Janner dying at first that I couldn't even enjoy what followed (the cloven turning back to humans, Arundelle and Artham's reunion <3 <3, Sara and her boat of orphans, Kalmar giving everyone new names etc).
And then Andrew Peterson had the audacity to end the book LIKE THAT in the epilogue and I about near lost my mind. I started running on fumes of adrenaline and hope and I immediately went in search of fanfics to FINISH THE BOOK since Andrew wouldn't ajlkghfjagdhsardjgf
At the time there was one (1) Ao3 fanfic about the WFS and it had nothing to do with the end of book 4 so I went over to ff.net which THANK THE MAKER had what I needed. I'll link the fanfic I found and immediately accepted as canon below. I can't remember if I actually went and printed it out or if I just planned to, but it is solidly the end of book 4 to me. xD
A Proper Wingfeather Saga Ending
So, yeah, TLDR; I went through the stages of grief, was given a sliver of hope in the epilogue, and immediately turned to fanfiction. xD

If I had a nickel for every time I got into a fandom in which the identity of a main character's uncle was a major plot point, I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot but is kind of weird.
Not to mention that if I had a nickel for every time the fandom had not one but two mysterious uncles important to the plot, the count would only go down to two. Which isn't a lot but is even weirder.

Just watched Bambi 2 again and this song! There is Life by Alison Krauss. Reminds me so much of TWATWK!

"And the colder the winter
The warmer the spring
The deeper the sorrow
The more our hearts sing
Even when you can't see it
Inside everything
There is life"

Artham's last words to Esben being to sing the song for love, to save, vs. Janner's last words to Kalmar being to sing the song to let himself be saved, and that he loves him.
It is a Throne Warden's duty to remind his brother of the right path, and to stand between him and danger.

Actually I have noticed something else, I’m probably wrong but Leeli doesn’t have a token weakness
Yeah she gets headaches later on and she has a bad leg but like, she does haven’t a fear like Janner and Kal do as far as I’m aware
Kal is scared of heights and Janner essentially has claustrophobia, and I get Leeli is supposed to be the ‘strong little sister’ type but I find that interesting

9yo: Who is that? Sarah?! What is Sarah doing there? Is that what happens to all people who were taken away by the black carriage?!
*one minute later*

A misquote cuz why not
Sara: Can you please turn the lights on?
Janner: Why? You’re the only light I need. *winks*
Kalmar: Please help me.
Sara: Janner I love you
Sara: But it’s pitch black in here.

The Sea Turned Red
Tumblr media
The sea turned red is one of my favorite chapters in the whole series. Everything about it is just phenomenal! Janner finally accepts his role, takes joy in protecting his brother and finds his courage. The act truly fulfills so much of what the story was building to in the first and second books, and really it's the end of Janner's first character arc. His acceptance of the call if you will. Its his actions here that kind of inform how he tries to act and who he eventually becomes in the third and fourth books. I love trying to draw this scene and have attempted to do so once a year for five years. I'm finally happy with how I captured it this time!
