nothing makes me more evil than seeing someone misinterpret daniel “oz” osbourne of buffy the vampire slayer fame. this is deeply unfortunate because it seems to be all everyone knows how to do. the amount of people i’ve seen dogging on him for things he did not even have control over is crazy. if you have issues with him read on. he’s the best character and i will die on that hill, so fight me on this one. i dare you. season 4 spoilers under the cut sorry to my friends. also him and tara could have been best friends but this isn’t really about her. just had to say it.
FIRST of all. he did not cheat on willow. veruca took advantage of him. i don’t even get how there’s grey area there - it’s clear that in both situations the wolf has control over oz, but not over veruca. so not only was HE not choosing to have sex with her or even aware that he was doing it, but SHE was aware and was taking advantage of him. this is not in ANY way his fault??? now yeah. he coulda been a little more defensive about himself when he was talking to willow and buffy but it’s oz. he’s already worried about hurting people when he’s a werewolf. if everyone’s telling him he’s bad and wrong for this he’s gonna believe it even if it isn’t true. and he didn’t have to scram and go full no contact after that. but again. he was SCARED! he didn’t wanna hurt willow any more than he already had. he made a snap decision based on what he felt he HAD to do. and if you’re one of the people who says just because he brought veruca into the cage that means he Wanted her to do that to him. i am going to get you. that’s victim blaming. he just wanted to make sure she didn’t KILL anyone. it makes sense that he would pick risking her taking advantage of him again over letting people die. did he handle it perfectly? no. that does not mean he wanted her to do all that. he loves willow and says that so many times explicitly. literally left to make sure he was good enough for her. he did not want veruca. jesus.
and SECOND. even worse is the people who are saying he comes across as homophobic for having a negative reaction to finding out about willow and tara. like. hello. did we watch the same scene. not once does he say anything negative about the fact that they’re both girls. he’s clearly just upset that willow didn’t tell him she was involved with anyone else, and with his whole new controlling the wolf thing, there’s gonna be a lot of pent up emotion and probably anger. so when he got extra upset when tara wouldn’t tell him anything more and eventually ended up wolfing out, it’s clear that it’s because he’s upset that he trusted willow but she didn’t give him all the information about where she was at and whether or not he had a chance with her again. which makes sense from her perspective of course, and tara’s reaction was valid too, but we can’t act like he suddenly hates gay people just cause he got mad that someone he cares about wasn’t totally honest with him. and he warns tara so he doesn’t end up hurting her by accident. and at the end of the episode all he wants to know is whether willow is happy. and she is. and so he’s happy for her and accepts it. i don’t even know how people are getting any other perception of the situation. god. sorry.
big idea is if you think oz is in the wrong for either of these i am going to hunt you down and beat you up evil style and maybe sit you down and have a talk about media literacy.

BtVS: Willow and Oz, Post-Tillow
I’ve thought a lot about what Oz and Willow’s relationship would look like in a post-Tillow era. I’ve written them in a version of the world where Willow is bi-sexual, and in a version of the world where Willow is gay.
In the version of things where they try again as adults, they’ve both changed so much since they dated that they’re entirely different people. Sometimes they work out as a couple and sometimes they don’t. It depends on the story and what I’ve done with their characters between the end of the show and now-ish.
In the version of things where Willow is gay, they become total besties. Oz loves the fact that Willow has come into her own and found someone who makes her happy (whether it be Tara, Kennedy, or someone else). Willow is glad Oz has owned his wolf side and learned to embrace it. Both of them use their powers to help others and they often work together. Oz will do anything to protect Willow and whoever she loves. He and Tara take a while to warm up to one another because when they met the first time Oz almost killed her. But Oz gets all Tara’s obscure nerdy references, and Tara appreciates the fact that Oz is content to sit in comfortable silence and lets her take her time getting her thoughts out when she’s nervous or excited.
Willow and Oz just love each other no matter what the circumstances, even if they’re not romantic partners. There’s a deep appreciation and respect on both sides, and I love writing them in any scenario. I’ll post some of these if I can get them in some sort of shape. They tend to be part of larger stories, so I’d have to polish those stories first.
Sidenote: I did not forget about Kennedy, but she was sort of underdeveloped in my opinion and I haven’t fully developed her yet in my head.

TWD Caryl - A Tree Fell in the Forest
I just finished watching TWD and searching a bunch tonne of stuff on this here Tumblr which I'm brand new to, and I have thoughts.
I am strangely drawn to imperfection, its beauty, and TWD sits in this place, hovering near almost faultlessness (characters), to being nearly unwatchable (where did the characters go), sometimes within the same episode. It's utterly fascinating! I am hooked! A little late, yes, but isn't that the story of my life.
I honestly have not felt this way about characters since the late 90's, when my 17 year old Willoz shipping heart waited desolately for Oz to return, and ... we all know how that turned out. Ah, shipping. I literally had not shipped a single ship since that day. Until I watched The Same Boat. TWD has some pretty special characters. Though I love Bojack and Ozark and Travis Fimmel's Ragnar, I did not feel compelled to examine the inner workings of those beautiful humans/humanoids beyond the show.
There I was, happily not shipping a ship, apart from my own relationship with my own beloved, which I ship ecstatically every day. (This is the kind of ramble I can indulge in when I think readership will be non-existent). Got another ship in!
Anyway, my point is that a Caryl romance is clearly canon, even though the relationship isn't (yet?).
I didn't actually fall in love with Carol until she listened to my urgent pleas to take care of the Wolves at the start of season 6. I should point out that I have ADHD so I didn't always have the dopamine? Emotional regulation? Focus? To listen to all of your speeches, Rick, or to watch entire episodes devoted to new characters, Tara, Magna, Alpha. So, apparently, I missed entire stuff.
Even after "C'mere", I just thought Carol and Daryl had this extremely unique soulmate bond, like that of Ragnar and Athelstan in Vikings. It is an extremely rare and unique portrayal of a transcendental devotion that cannot be likened to any other kind of relationship, because there are no other relationships like it. The bind encompasses every aspect of love and support needed to utterly fulfull and complete someone.
At this point I had stumbled onto Tumblr because I realised I needed pro-Carol recaps from Carylers, as they seemed to best understand and grasp this very special character. I went back and rewatched from the beginning and I was shocked. I rewatched (and noticed for the first time) the flirting, the hesitation, the banter, the unspoken LOOKS, oh so many. Drew the links from Consumed ("I kinda like it." "Stop.") Watched interviews, waded through the mass of gaslighting that abounds, which seems to wrap itself around every subtle, telling moment.
Why? Because it's fascinating. A mystery. Pretending something that happened, did not? A tree fell in the forest and some people did not hear it. Well I didn't hear it either! But I went back and found the tree. That tree is on the damn ground.
Carol and Daryl are so in love with each other it hurts. Their romance exists. Therefore, I'm gonna ship it.

5. Honestly, I'd steal your number 5 bestie, 6Teen was great. In the spirit of obscure animated TV shows, though - and It's been so damn long I forgot the names of some characters, had to look up the guy's name, lol - Zero and Vin from The Invisible Network of Kids. It left a profound impact on my psyche because they did something really fucked up in the last episode, plus left us on a cliffhanger, and then the show got cancelled </3 rip. Haven't watched it in a decade or so. No idea if it holds up, but I was super invested in these kids doing spy work and experiencing insane levels of trauma that would be ignored come each new episode </3. I was literally 8 years old <3. It has a TV tropes page and the entire show is availible on the Internet Archive, of all places, sooooooo I may browse. For nostalgia's sake. There are literally zero gifs available for this one, because. I mean. No shit.

Plus, they both just ended up with much better canon ships (stalia, marrish) that then got shafted for this mess to be the endgame and then the movie breaks them up anyway!!! OFFSCREEN!!!! they didn't even last 2 weeks!!!! fuck!!!!!!!! I don't like them. But I used to. Playlist, for proof. I feel like this counts, because I shipped them when I first watched the show as it aired (I was 10 when the show started), but I did still ship the pairing until well into my teens (16 or so) before I wised up (the show made them very bad in a really boring way. Not that they weren't bad before. Love how they both do things that are otherwise reprehensible but the show frames them as romantic for some fucking reason </3 I was like 13 when I saw this kiss on screen. They're lucky I did research and didn't just take it at face value or I could've gotten some really bad ideas about what's healthy in a situation like this!).

If you ignore the canaries in the room. (I. Do not. Famously. Well. Infamously.) As for Hinny, whilst its a garbage ship name, the pairing itself is pretty great <3

Shoker is a major missed opportunity in ME, and I've been mad about the choices for my fem!shep for YEARS because. Look. Kaiden she did not cheat on you. You left!! You accused her of being evil and fucked off after she was resurrected!! what else was she supposed to think other than 'guess he doesn't want to date me anymore. Rude.' And. You could have sex with Jack but not romance her, that was locked to male characters >:| biphobia [Jack can have sexual relations with women, but her only real connections are to men. Rude!]. And, Liara in my games always turned herself down for romance because she assumed my shep wanted to date Kaiden because she's not a total dick to him and there's no way for me to clarify otherwise, also people making assumptions :/ not great. Plus Li becomes the shadow broker and it's a whole thing, so that doesn't really work out narratively for me anyway. Can't romance Miranda. Can't romance Tali (wouldn't anyway - Tali/Garrus <3). Refuse to romance Garrus that is just so platonic a dynamic it's not even funny. Jacob cheats and dips, so fuck him. Like... all of the fem!shep romances are terrible (or Trainor, I guess, but she's... kind of. Nobody. She's Just There. Sorry. It's not narratively interesting enough for me.) and Joker was right there and augh. Augh! Still ship. Still mad about it. Hatboy Project is doing the lord's work! I salute thee soldier in thine endeavours. Waiting to replay LE until it's been finished <3.

Jones moet ouders van vermoorde kinderen alsnog miljoenen betalen

Alex Jones, die via zijn radiostation jarenlang paranoïde complotten verspreidde onder miljoenen radioluisteraars, moest al 4,1 miljoen dollar betalen aan de ouders van een slachtoffertje van een bloedbad op een school. Er zullen nog meer straffen volgen. En mogelijk celstraf wegens meineed. De ‘methode Jones’ is intussen naar Europa geëxporteerd. Jones moet van een jury in Texas nog eens 45,2 miljoen dollar (44,4 miljoen euro) betalen aan de nabestaanden van een 6-jarig jongetje dat om het leven kwam bij de schietpartij op de school Sandy Hook, meldt The New York Times. De boete komt een dag nadat de jury Jones opdroeg 4,1 miljoen dollar (ruim 4 miljoen euro) schadevergoeding te betalen aan de nabestaanden.
Op een vrijdagmorgen in december 2012 eet de zesjarige Jesse Lewis in de Misty Vale Deli in Sandy Hook zijn favoriete ontbijt. Gebakken ei met een worstje en kaas op een hard broodje. Hij drinkt er hete chocolademelk bij. Jesse en zijn ouders zijn vaste gasten in het restaurant. Na het eten wordt Jesse naar school gebracht.
Terwijl hij in de klas zit klinken er schoten via de intercom. Een twintigjarige man, Adam Lanza, heeft zich een weg door de veiligheidsdeur van de school geschoten en twee vrouwen, de directeur en de psycholoog van de school vermoord. Thuis heeft Lanza al zijn moeder doodgeschoten. Lanza gaat naar de klas naast die van Jesse en doodt daar de juf en veertien kinderen. Daarna gaat hij naar de klas van Jesse en doodt de juf. Dan weigert zijn wapen. Dat is het moment waarop, suggereren reconstructies, Jesse „rennen” roept tegen klasgenootjes. Zes van zijn klas overleven het. Jesse niet. Hij wordt door zijn hoofd geschoten. Lanza doodt kort daarna zichzelf.
Dit bloedbad, bekend als The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting, kost het leven aan 28 mensen, de dader en zijn moeder meegerekend. De meeste slachtoffers zijn kinderen van zes en zeven jaar.
Hoax
En jaar later begint een horrorverhaal rond te zingen. Het Sandy Hook bloedbad zou een verzinsel zijn, een hoax. Er zijn geen dode kinderen. En de ouders? Allemaal acteurs en actrices die voor groene schermen zijn gezet. Die hele massamoord is in scene gezet door de overheid om Amerikanen hun wapens af te kunnen pakken. De zogenaamde ouders moeten maar eens bewijzen dat hun kinderen dood zijn. Waar zijn de lijken? Waar zijn de foto’s? Waar zijn de rekeningen van de schoonmaakbedrijven die de botresten en honderden liters bloed opruimden? Kortom: niet waar volgens Jones.
Jones verkondigt ‘alternatieve waarheden’ over talloze historische gebeurtenissen. Van 9/11 en de Oklahoma-bomaanslag tot Pizzagate (een zogenaamd door Hillary Clinton vanuit een pizzeria geleid pedofielennetwerk), de ‘in scene gezette’ rellen in Charlottesville of de ‘autisme veroorzakende’ coronavaccins: Jones heeft voor alles een sinistere verklaring.
‘Deep State’
Die draait meestal om een geheime wereldorde of een ‘deep state’-regering die aan de touwtjes trekt en probeert om burgers ‘tot willoze slaven te maken’. Bill Gates en George Soros zijn terugkerende ‘hoofdverdachten’. Net zoals ‘de Joden’. Nog een paar van zijn stokpaardjes: de regering stopt fluoride in drinkwater om mensen dom te maken en gebruikt andere chemicaliën om het volk ‘feminien’ en ‘gay’ te maken.
Jones beroept zich op de vrijheid van meningsuiting en het recht om vragen te stellen. Hij is echter niet geïnteresseerd in antwoorden. En ook niet in het uitgangspunt dat wie buitengewone beschuldigingen uit ook buitengewone bewijzen moet leveren. Hij heeft miljoenen luisteraars die niet alleen zijn complotten lijken te slikken, maar ook door hem aanbevolen producten zoals een ‘coronavirusdodende’ tandpasta kopen. Jones is niet de bedenker van alle theorieën, maar wel de luidste en invloedrijkste verkondiger ervan.
De Sandy Hook-ouders hebben door de paranoïde terreur die Jones ontketent niet alleen veel verdriet maar ze worden ook bedreigd en geïntimideerd door aanhangers van Jones. Sommigen verhuizen. Een vader van een vermoord kind pleegt zelfmoord. De ouders slaan terug en dagen Jones voor de rechter. Jones probeert zich eerst te redden door spijt te betuigen. Misschien zijn de kinderen wel dood, zegt hij. Maar, er is altijd een maar bij hem, ‘het officiële verhaal’ kent veel gaten zeggen zijn ‘bronnen’. (red. zijn verhaal ook!).
Miljoenenclaims
In april van dit jaar laat Jones Infowars failliet verklaren. Zo denkt hij eventuele miljoenenclaims te kunnen ontlopen. De 4,1 miljoen dollar die hij nu van de jury in Austin Texas moet betalen aan de ouders van Jesse Lewis zijn compensatie. De jury beraadt zich nog op meer strafboetes. Intussen is ook duidelijk, dankzij de inhoud van de telefoon die door zijn advocaat per ongeluk is verstrekt aan de aanklagers, dat Jones minstens twee keer meineed heeft gepleegd. Hiervoor riskeert hij celstraf. Het onderzoeksteam dat de Capitool-opstand van 2021 onderzoekt heeft de inhoud van de telefoon ook opgevraagd. Vermoed wordt dat er tekst-boodschappen tussen Jones en kringen rond Trump op staan.
Je kunt beweren dat dit ‘Amerikaanse toestanden’ zijn. Maar veel gif dat Jones de ether inpompte is inmiddels mainstream geworden, ook in Europa. In die zin is Alex Jones heel invloedrijk en machtig. Of hij zijn mond zal houden is twijfelachtig. Hij manoeuvreert zich nu al weken in de slachtofferrol. Hij ziet zich als een vrijdenker die de mond wordt gesnoerd door wat hij een ‘kangoeroerechtbank’ noemt. Volgens de ouders zal de zaak voor de samenleving echter duidelijk maken dat er grenzen zijn aan de vrijheid van meningsuiting. Meningen over van alles roepen is gratis en straffeloos, maar voor leugens moet altijd de tol worden betaald door de doelwitten van die leugens, zeggen zij. Dat moet stoppen.
Recht op wapens heilig
Een politieman die onderzoek deed naar Sandy Hook en de rol van Jones zei kortgeleden dit: „Er zijn drie soorten mensen die bloedbaden zoals Sandy Hook (en nu ook Uvalde) ontkennen en zelfs de families van de slachtoffers intimideren en belasteren. De eerste categorie zijn psychisch gestoorden. De tweede categorie bestaat uit mensen die geneigd zijn om bewust verdraaide informatie te geloven. De derde categorie bestaat uit mensen die wéten dat de verhalen die ze vertellen niet kloppen, maar er toch mee doorgaan omdat ze gedreven worden door honger naar macht of geld. Jones is categorie drie”. Maar het recht op wapens is heilig voor veel Amerikanen – zeker in Texas – en er is bijna geen thema te vinden waarbij de verdeeldheid tussen links en rechts groter is. Iets meer dan de helft van de kiezers wil strengere wapenregels, de rest zegt ’vriendelijk bedankt’. Vrijwel elke voorgestelde verandering wordt door conservatieve politici weggewuifd, en oproepen om wapens zoals de AR-15 te verbieden, hebben bij voorbaat weinig kans in Washington. Op de achtergrond doet de invloedrijke wapenlobby zijn best om dat zo te houden.
Reacties voorspelbaar
De reacties van Republikeinen na het bloedbad in Texas zijn vooralsnog voorspelbaar: ze richten zich op mogelijke mentale problemen van de schutter, niet op de wapens. „Ik heb liever dat we burgers die zich aan de wet houden, trainen en bewapenen, zodat ze kunnen reageren als er iets gebeurt”, aldus de invloedrijke Texaanse politicus Ken Paxton dinsdagavond. „De oplossing is niet om de grondwettelijke rechten van zich goed gedragende burgers in te perken”, zegt Senator Ted Cruz.
Als er één iemand is die de politieke realiteit snapt, is het president Biden. In 2012 was het vicepresident Biden die na een andere schietpartij op een basisschool, Sandy Hook, op het thema wapenwetgeving werd gezet door Barack Obama. Hij bedacht een lijst met mogelijke hervormingen, van klein tot groot. Drie maanden later bleek er niets terecht te komen van de lijst. Hij zal het deze keer opnieuw proberen, maar de kans op succes lijkt onveranderd klein.
