The Western campaigns here will be covered ahead of the broader holistic Eastern picture:
The decision to cover the Western campaigns first is both because I find the Western war much more interesting than the Eastern, because of the 40 Acres and a Mule case spinning directly out of these campaigns, and because it's both where the war was won and where the second largest massacre unfolded during the Savannah Campaign. In this case it begins with the Atlanta Campaign that unfolded simultaneously to Petersburg, achieving much more fluid advances at lower costs because Joe Johnston did what he did best. He retreated, always pledging to fight the next battle, while writing angry hatemail to Jeff Davis about why it was always his fault that Joe Johnston's army was always vastly outnumbered and why Sherman could take staggering losses but never be weak enough to attack.
The result was that when Joe Johnston was penned up at the very gates of Atlanta he was once again sacked and replaced by the over-aggressive opium addict John Bell Hood. Who proceeded to prove himself the worst general on either side launching four bloody attacks that ruined his army, permitted Sherman to take Atlanta, and leading to the famous telegram of "Atlanta is ours and fairly won."
In the process Sherman's army struck deep into the very heart of the Rebellion, shaking slavery where its masters thought themselves safest, and capturing the last major railway hub of the Confederacy.

Favorite Albums of All Time: 70-61
Favorite Albums of All Time: 70-61
Having listened to every album on the Rolling Stone list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, I’m making my own list.  This list will be only 250 albums, although I had to make some tough cuts.  The list includes a mix of works of musical genius with the pure nostalgia of some albums I’ve loved throughout my life.  As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts about these albums and what your favorite…

The New Zealand-born Rutherford was the first to show that the atom consists of a positively charged nucleus surrounded by tiny negatively charged electrons, while Bragg (born in Australia), together with his British-born father William Henry Bragg, developed the technique of X-ray crystallography, in which X-rays are used to determine the three-dimensional structure of solid matter on the atomic scale.

John: And that damn scandalous politician, Theophile Baxter! I will not be voting for that bloody liberal!
Elizabeth: Please dear, reduce your swearing.
Tumblr media
Peregrine: I wouldn't say Baxter is completely liberal, John. Some of his policies are more conservative than liberal. I don't like him much either though so he doesn't have my vote!
Helena: *sighing* Must you always bring up politics during dinner, Perry?
Peregrine: No dear but-
Helena: I dare say, may we change the topic?
Tumblr media
Ashley: I think Miles Bragg is a very good polit-
Helena and Peregrine: Oh shut it, Ashley!
Tumblr media
Emma: What do you think of this muslin, Laurence? Does it make me look like a proper young lady?
Tumblr media
Laurence: If you ask me about another damn "mouslin" or whatever the devil it's called I believe I'll go mad!
Emma: It's called muslin!
*Laurence sighs*
Tumblr media
William: Mar-Dear Ms. Ramsbury. Are you enjoying your dinner?
Tumblr media
Martha: Yes-yes. Quite well.
William: Capital!
Tumblr media
Aurelia: I think your muslin is lovely Ms. Carew. Please disregard your dear brother.
Emma: Oh thank you, Lady Aurelia!
Tumblr media
Patience: Oh yes, it's very lovely. I'm not sure why Mr. Carew hates muslin so!
Tumblr media
Laurence: My apologies my dearest Lady...oh and Mrs. Ramsbury.
Tumblr media
Aurelia: *whispering* Why are you looking at me like that? Are you cross?
Frederick: *whispering* Am I cross, "My dearest Lady.."? Perhaps I "je n'aurais pas à résister à l'envie d'embrasser tes lèvres pulpeuses et d'embrasser ta silhouette parfaite..." or whatever the hell he said.
Aurelia: Oh heavens, it worked.
Frederick: Whatever do you mean it worked?!
Tumblr media
Aurelia: You paid no compliments to my hair. I thought you didn't notice it. I did it this way for you and you paid me no compliments!
Frederick: I noticed you and your pretty blue silks the moment you stepped into the drawing room. Had I not been engaged in conversation with your uncle, I would've gone and talked to you.
Aurelia: I'm sure of it. I still haven't received a compliment on my hair from you, perhaps I shall invite Mr. Carew to my birthday in four da-
Tumblr media
Frederick: Dearest, sweetest, loveliest Lily. I love your gorgeous hair and how those little ringlets adorn your beautiful face. I love that style and if it makes you happy, I would wish you wear it more often. Not saying I don't like any other style you wear, but that one is my favorite so far. Is this good enough for you? Please know that I sincerely mean it.
Aurelia: *blushing* More than good enough.
Frederick: Now will you stop giving that scoundrel any ounces of your attention and affection?
Aurelia: I shall try.
Tumblr media
Aurelia: *giggling* I shall be cordial with him. It is the polite thing to do. You're also a fool if you ever think Cornelius Grey would allow one of his daughters to marry a second son! Let alone an atheist. I'm sure he will invite you to stay with us in Brindleton at Paelford.
Frederick: *laughing* I hope he does. But you tease me too much. You enjoy vexing me.
Aurelia: Admit that you like it when I vex you.
Frederick: I only like it when I do not have the urge to rip someone's tongue from their throat.
Aurelia: Frederick Worthington!
Tumblr media
This grandiose dinner continued for the next hour until everyone was stuffed. Aurelia found herself mainly conversing with Frederick throughout this dinner, and no one paid them any mind. It was quite obvious to everyone in the room, including Laurence of the affection they shared, even if it was in modesty due to them being surrounded by others. Peregrine, knowing the coming events decided that the gentlemen would not smoke directly after dinner. Once the table was cleared of dinner and dessert plates, William Carew mustered the courage to arise to make a speech, with his wine glass in his hand.
Tumblr media
William: Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed family and friends, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude. The warmth in my heart exceeds the glow of any candle that graces this room. Before we head to the drawing room, I must share with you a moment that has forever altered the course of my life. A fortnight ago, at the ball held by Viscount Markham, I dared to utter words that have forever changed the trajectory of my and Ms. Ramsbury's future. I asked a question that resides in the chambers of every romantic heart. A question that binds souls and weaves fabrics of destiny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
William: I inquired if she would be my forever partner in this so-called journey called life. I asked Miss Martha Ramsbury if she would be my loving, and faithful wife. I am pleased to tell you she has happily accepted!
Tumblr media
Helena: Oh my goodness! My dear girl is to be wed, how wonderful! I shall have to ask my dear brother if you two may tie the nuptials at Auglire! Oh Peregrine, how blessed are we!
Peregrine: *in between tears* Yes, quite blessed my dear!
Tumblr media
William: To love, to friendship, and to the uncharted seas of me and my dear bride's shared future-cheers!
Everyone in the room stood, and the room was filled with the clinking of crystal, followed by a chorus of heartfelt congratulations and well-wishes. The only one who didn't seem to wish the couple good wishes was Patience Ramsbury, who Aurelia couldn't help but notice her fake smile and discomfort.
Tumblr media
Laurence Carew ordered nearby footmen to bring him a bottle of brandy.
Tumblr media
Laurence: TO MY FUCKING BLOODY BASTARD OF A BROTHER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laurence: HAVE SOME MERRIMENT ON THIS JOYFUL EVE YOU LOT!
John and Elizabeth Carew let out a long sigh at how embarrassed they were by this son of theirs. But their annoyance didn't last long, for their firstborn and heir to their estate was to marry Miss Martha Ramsbury! At this moment, Aurelia realized who Laurence reminded her of. No other than that of Thaddeus Skeffington, a man whom she had a lot of disdain for. Despite her teasing Frederick to get him jealous, she knew she could never marry someone like Laurence. Laurence was more up to speed with her friend Villoria. Frederick was the only man she could ever see herself marrying.
Tumblr media
Although she was happy for Martha, she couldn't help but wish she had a ring on her finger and a lace bonnet on her head to share Martha's bliss. How she wished she was Lady Worthington, Countess of Henford. Oh, how she regretted rejecting Frederick's proposal. Perhaps they even would have had babies by now had she accepted.

White Hat Military Installations DESTROY Vaccine-Contaminated Blood Stockpiles
Tumblr media
After the House voted 350-80 in favor of repealing Lloyd Austin’s unconstitutional Covid-19 vaccine mandate for all armed forces members, the White Hat partition of the U.S. military took it a step further by destroying blood donations taken from vaccinated servicemembers.
They say empirical evidence proves beyond all doubt that although donors might not present vaccine-related side effects, recipients of tainted plasma have had adverse reactions, including sudden death, to contaminated blood. Case in point: Staff Sgt. William Wright, a healthy 36-year-old male stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, was wounded during a training exercise to the point of needing a transfusion. Wright was not vaccinated; he had been fighting an arduous battle to obtain a religious exemption. He was unconscious at the time, and therefore couldn’t ask whether the plasma entering his veins had been siphoned from a vaccinated person. Unbeknownst to Wright, the donor had been double-vaxxed and boosted. He seemed to recover—his vitals were normal and he was eating solid food—but remained under observation at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center-Fort Bliss, and had enough strength to ask whether he’d been given vaccinated blood. When told he had, he protested. Two days later Wright, still at the hospital, died suddenly—major heart attack. A postmortem examination found an 11” blood clot in an artery in his lungs.
The White Hat physicians’ movement claims that the criminal Biden regime has buried hundreds of similar reports that malign its precious vaccine.
“When an unvaccinated patient receives vaccinated plasma, well, statistics don’t lie. What we’ve witnessed is an astronomically large number of troops present everything from mild and temporary to severe and lasting side effects, and, in some cases, death. I’m personally aware of 12 men that needed a transfusion and vehemently objected to getting vaccinated plasma. They were told they were government property and had no right to refuse it,” a physician at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, told Real Raw News.
On Thursday, the senior leadership at Womack Army Medical Center reached a consensus to incinerate and destroy its stockpile of vaccine-contaminated blood—approximately 500 liters of refrigerated plasma and whole blood that hadn’t yet been spun in a centrifuge. News of the heroic act spread rapidly among the White Hat community, and within hours other military bases began torching polluted blood. Fort Meade, home to U.S. Cyber Command, destroyed its supply, as did Hunter Army Airfield and Fort Benning, both in Georgia. All told, 23 installations obliterated toxic blood.
“It was a ripple effect, a wave,” said our source at Womack Army Medical Center. “It only took us to start it, and now it’s washing over joint bases all over the country.”
RRN asked whether the blood destruction would affect service members whose lives depend on a transfusion.
“We have an ace in the hole,” our source said. “Fortunately, Marines resisted the mandate from the start, and have been donating regularly. Rough estimate, 150,000 unvaccinated Marines who can donate 6 times per year. The Special Operations units also refused vaccination. That’s 43,000 men and women, give or take. We won’t have a shortage of unvaccinated blood. And we’ll get more as new enlistees, who won’t have to get vaxxed, can contribute theirs.”

Going through my War of the Rebellion readings, starting with the Cozzens trilogy:
Continuing my series of War of the Rebellion books with the Cozzens trilogy from Stone's River to Chattanooga. Stone's River and Chickamauga raise the blunt question that's rather inconvenient to the Rosecrans cult that this man, supposedly a genius, was outsmarted and outthought and oufought at a tactical level once and had his army routed the second time by a man usually held to be one of the war's worst generals. Technically, given the abysmal comparisons he's the second best general (which is why his side lost).
Grant was entirely right to note that Stone's River was not in fact a victory, that Rosecrans mishandled the battle from stem to stern. It was also a case like Antietam of swelling up a half-success for psychological reasons. Which circles right around to the Rosecrans problem. Rosecrans is a brilliant man, yes. He is a competent general which is more than can be said for most of his compatriots in blue or grey. He lost to a general who is a textbook case of how not to lead an army in a war at Chickamauga and here he 'won' because that man had no idea what to do when a day passed and Rosecrans sat on the battlefield where he'd been given a hard spanking.
The simple answer here would be that Rosecrans is competent and thus above average for a general on either side but that Bragg's failures are also exaggerated and his weaknesses and Rosecrans' weaknesses mutually canceled each other out. There are no answers where Rosecrans is the poor widdle martyr persecuted by Grant AND where his problematic performance against Bragg doesn't take a serious beating to his reputation.
