#why do all my comments on jay end up comparing him to another universe's Normal GuyTM. stole the guys name and can't even give him a rest

Note
okay. s6 thoughts. you can pinpoint the part where my heart breaks right at the beginning of the season
Tumblr media
i have to say though i was pleasantly surprised at how decent jay/naya was at like the 2/3rds way point of the season and onwards when its just them. like as you can tell i am not particularly fond of the way the writers attempt romance. but either way all i ask for is that jay/naya doesnt get any more drama. since i can never win with shipping in this series im not counting on it, but a girl can dream.
anyways i think its really kind of weird how all naya wanted this arc was some agency and then she... didnt even get to significantly contribute to ending the djinn. like man the only reason jay's wish got made was because she was dying for man pain. the irony is almost too much. but i digress
i simultaneously like and dislike jay's final wish bc i dislike that nya had to die and also that it undoes the whole season (except for jay and naya for some reason (????? like why does nobody else remember this. actually scratch that ive given up trying to understand how the djinn wishes work)) but i also like it because the way its presented feels like. i dont know. complete? rounded? its really weird. also fun fact im pretty sure i saw the final episode of this season and like none of the rest of it other than maybe the episode where the ninja go to jail. the wonders of cable tv
it is really terribly unfortunate, btw, that the only darker skinned character in the whole show is a rapist. i really dont like that i really dont like that at all.
in other news, zane continues to get nerfed by the writers by things outside his control because otherwise he'd be too powerful. they nerfed him when he took control of the team last season and they nerfed him again with the djinn wishes. i STILL dont understand how he deleted pixal. it makes no sense he just. did that (??????) and they didnt even try to explain
speaking of djinn lore that doesnt make sense to me, i still dont understand why he didnt just marry anybody on his ship and then wish them to be his girlfriend. like idk man that seems so much more simple.
i am also terribly terribly TERRIBLY disappointed we didnt get a "STOP THE WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" like for real what is Even The Point. whyd you even bother doing this at all. the answer is so that we could get jay/naya but man its not even explained how getting married gives him all those powers. just because. the other person doesnt even have to CONSENT and it works ????? somehow ????????? actually speaking of if she doesnt have to consent. whyd we even bother going through all this at all when she gets captured way earlier. man the lore of this season is just a mess.
im not gonna lie i really dont like the fact that zane's dad made a replacement for him. not even like a different kid its literally just zane 2.0 despite the fact that both of them are sentient and, yknow. people. that would, however, be a very interesting subplot to explore re: zane's identity as a robot but unfortunately we wont be getting that bc i dont think this show likes what i like very much. also very sad that the other zane, who is still a person btw, is gonna be trapped in that lighthouse for the rest of time.
also really really funny that old lloyd looks like a garmadon clone. reminded me of something my friend who i am liveblogging my ninjago revival to said like 3 days ago
Tumblr media
anyways watch them give lloyd a girlfriend and watch me tear my hair out as the ninjago writers continue to curse me with their attempts at romance. im also like 40% sure a time travel arc is coming up soon but maybe im remembering wrong. guess we shall Wait And See.
also unrelated but i have to say the djinn response to a wish being "your wish is yours to keep" instead of "your wish is my command" is honestly pretty epic. i do love that.
also. a . question. are we.... are we ever going to get back to the fact that jay's bio dad is (presuming hes still alive. well i guess at the point the season leaves off he is but still you get the idea) a world famous actor and dumped his son off at a junkyard despite being fabulously wealthy and then named said son as his heir without ever contacting him (????????????????) please tell me we're going back to that. please. who the heck is his bio mom. many questions no answers.
so, my wishes for the next season: no love drama please i am on my hands and knees i am begging i am pleading no more romance. give me a break dear writers please. um other than that i was talking to previously mentioned friend earlier and i was like "well im pretty sure garmadon is coming back because if theres one thing this show hates its letting go of its cast" and she said that he comes back in an extremely mediocre way and thinks i will be mad so. that. is a thing i am . well i want to see him again but im also not so sure i want to see him again with this new information. so theres that. um i want more team interactions as always. i want people hanging out and being friends. i also want bad alt outfits. im a simple lady honestly
(preface: my infinite apologies for not getting this till now my life is a disaster rn. i am GREATLY enjoying these)
the immediate turnaround.... yeahhh. i'm a filthy early seasons stan and boy does it become very clear the more seasons they get that the struggle between the writer's cool ideas and their ability to execute them is constant and ongoing (and largely losses). im pretty sure s6 had some notoriously bad crunch too and it definitely shows
kudos to them for finally getting their one-on-one dynamic down bc it can be REALLY fun when used to its full potential but the majority of the time nya gets nerfed and its the biggest loss ever. theres so much to do with your deconstruction of the damsel how dare they fuck it up so many times 😔 dangers of an ever growing cast but cmon
i can do nothing but agree with your complex feelings on the ending bc its both incredibly frustrating and incredibly fitting. the racial implications of this show only get more,, concerning. as time goes on so tragically yeah. yeah. fuckin hell lego
zane king of my heart. the cornerstone of the team my tag is loadbearing nindroid for good reason. you are constantly correct
!!! yes!!! the one thing that could have made that entire plot line (slightly) more comedic than uncomfortable. literally nothing about this season has logic that makes sense even within JUST this season its terrible its great.
i can't even comment on the echo zane stuff its just baffling to me they don't ever use it. fucking WILD thing to make canon and then never bring it up again dear god. both intriguing implications for dr. julien's.... everything and completely squandered opportunity to actually get into robot storylines again which are 80% of the reason i watched the show. eternally crossing my fingers that those rumors about the villains are true bc dear god does julien get more fucked up the more you think about him. (preboot) chuck and dr julien are the same archetype stop making connections brain. that is a negative statement they're both well meaning but fucked up. and self flagellating for the wrong reasons
Tumblr media
oHHH yeah. the familial symbolism in this series is like a drug to me i can't get enough of it. approaching lloyd and garmadon as the same core traits just with vastly different circumstances... ninjago has fascinating implications for the nature vs nurture debate ill leave it at that
it is!!! its cool as hell.
everything about jay is fascinating to me he has as many bonkers decisions behind his existence as lloyd does only he's supposed to be The Normal Guy so it loops back around. untapped comedic potential in him being wealthy enough to subsidize their entire crimefighting lifestyle but being too traumatized to explain why. the larry butz of ninjago.

A Tiny Spark Leads to a Roaring Flame (But Flames Can Always be Doused by Water)
Heeyyyyy so y’all know the Reverse Thanos Snap AU for SPBNR? Basically everyone but Smith/S!Kai gets sent to the M!verse. Everyone. The entire population of S!verse Ninjago City & a few surrounding areas. Except poor Smith. Essentially it happens because S!Garmadon tries to send Smith to a place where he can't mess with his plans, and ends up sending everyone away from Smith to take him out of the equation.
The second part to this AU is that the S!Ninja end up searching for Kai in the chaos and grab the Red Ninja before jetting out of there with the Bounty. Except... they didn’t grab Smith (who’s still home), but rather Red (M!Kai).
Red thinks the S!Ninja are babysitter clones created by Garmadon after he somehow turned Lloyd younger without his memories & is trying to raise him to be his new General #1. With this in mind, he pretends to be S!Kai, and waits for the moment he can rescue Lloyd.
What would happen in the S!Ninja discovered his deception/their mistake of grabbing a wrong Kai and mistake Red for a recreated Aki (aka Bizarro Evil Clone Kai) before he could enact his plan?
Well, this is that idea. (Title inspired by how a crack AU spiralled into a beautiful angst-fest)
Enjoy. :3
-----*-----
Red was going to get Lloyd out of here tonight.
Away from these Not-Friends made by Garmadon to emulate the Ninjaforce. Away from this flying ship built to emulate Master Wu's ship, so familiar and yet so off. Away from this false reality and back to the real everything where they could hopefully get his memories back and his age back and everything back to the way it was before the city descended into chaos.
He just had to... bide his time. Be patient.
FSM, he was bad at being patient.
His hands itched to grab Lloyd and run now, but he was horribly outnumbered and without his mech. No matter how badly he wanted to, he couldn't rush this. If he did, he would make everything worse. Like he always did.
But fate- or rather, Lloyd- had other plans.
The little version of his younger brother- yes, they were roughly the same age normally, shut up, Lloyd was still his younger brother- had been... eying him weird all morning. Not like Not-Jay and Not-Cole and Not-Zane, but like Not-Nya. Like he actually knew instead of suspected. These babysitter clones seemed to think he was the Not-Kai, and if that was the opportunity the universe was going to give him, then by the flames of the departed world was he going to skip this chance to save Lloyd.
Currently he stood on the deck of the ship as they parked in the sky a few meters above the docks on the outskirts of the city. It wasn't the docks with the Bounty warehouse, curse his luck, but it wasn't the endless sky or the empty ocean (though it was still too close to that murky, haunting water for his liking. Water was his sister's domain for a reason). At least he could sneak Lloyd off in the cover of night, maybe find someone in the city who wouldn't recognize the Son of Garmadon this way and would be willing to help them hide until they could make it back to the real ninja.
"Kai," Not-Zane spoke suddenly next to him.
Red would never get used to the way his voice... lacked the same effect the real Zane's had. The effect that Kai and the rest of his team had assured their friend over and over was unique, special, but in a good way. To embrace it. That it wasn't noticeable, but when it was, that it was so Zane that his friends didn't care that it was different.
This 'Zane' sounded much too different than his own. He hadn't recognized Kai's tested line of 'road work ahead' when they passed one of the many construction signs littering the city (even more so since the chaos happened a week ago), and instead had responded with 'a great deal of work to fix in the city'.
Seriously, Garmadon, do better research on your clones.
Not-Zane was also much too... calm. Too 'wise' compared to the wild teen that was Zane. And he walked without heelies or whatever Zane used to slide around like a boss, though he was still silent. And that meant, like now, he snuck up on Red fairly often- and Red was training to be a Ninja, so that took serious talent.
"Kai," Not-Zane said again, and Red finally broke his gaze from where he'd been staring over the railing, planning tonight's escape route. "Lunch has been made for over an hour. Are you alright?"
Red forced his brightest smile. "Course I'm alright! Just trying to figure out what happened, as usual."
Why Lloyd was suddenly like, 8, and without his memories. Why the Not-Friends were on this Not-Ship and had mistaken him for Not-Kai. Why the city was in a state of disarray and chaos.
Not-Zane studied him, then turned to give the city a sad look. "I'm not sure myself. My scanners can't seem to figure out what is happening. It is as if... blocked by some force."
Red winced, then expertly disguised the move by leaning against the rail. Zane never would use 'my scanners', despite how often Red and the others assured him it was okay. Yet another reason why this wasn't his friend.
"You know Ninjago City," Red said with a weak laugh. "Always one crisis or another. Always those annoying Garmadon Attacks"
This seemed to satisfy Not-Zane, who nodded thoughtfully. "This event definitely seems to have Garmadon's hand in the mess."
He patted Red on the back. "Well, don't worry yourself ragged, Kai. Come in for lunch soon, alright? We have training for Lloyd later."
Ah, right. Training. AKA what Red assumed was how Garmadon was planning to shape this impressionable version of his friend into his new General #1.
"I'm ready for training now, Zane!"
Speaking of Lloyd-
The little gremlin came up from the hull with the rest of the Not-Ninja. Red hated when the entire group was together; it was way more difficult to act as Not-Kai around them, especially around Not-Nya.
For starters, Not-Jay had a notch in his eyebrow that the real Jay never had. He was missing the iconic freckles, and the scarf, and the fluffy hair, though you could always say it was just a wardrobe change. What you couldn't change was the personality differences. This couldn’t be Jay. Jay was anxious and quiet, his jokes (while plentiful) said more timidly and his newest ideas shared with hesitance that only shrank after years of encouragement. He would never be this loud, ever.
Not-Cole was the leader, probably because Lloyd was so young. But even then, in Red's team, Nya would probably take second-command. Cole was their sturdy support, yes, but he was chill, laid-back. Ready to follow and support his friends to the ends of the earth with his tunes and occasional sarcastic wit, but not lead. Not like Not-Cole, who was more serious and commanding and didn't. listen. to. music. Red hadn't spotted a single record or boombox in the room in the hull. That was a tragic oversight on Garmadon's part. The members of his research team should be Fired.
And then there was Not-Nya. Who wore a dress with confidence that his sister would love but never publicly wear. Who had short hair- Nya had tried that style once, and decided it itched around her neck too much- and jewelry, and a giant flying Samurai mech suit. His sister had the Water Strider Mech, and Not-Nya had a flying combat suit. Sure. Close enough. Personality-wise they were similar.
Similar at first glance. Nya was fluid and adaptable to whatever role she needed filling. She was spunky, and as fiery as him when it came to tempers, though she knew how to keep hers in check (she had to, right? No one called her hot-headed and impulsive and reckless and blamed her temper for mistakes or damage or whatever the news comments liked to say about the Fire Mech). Not-Nya was also adaptable and independent-minded, but she seemed more rigid. More doing her own thing.
Point was, everyone wasn't actually his friends, despite how much they tried to prove they were. And they kept acting like he was this Not-Kai, who was just as hot-headed but apparently more mature and training-oriented and basically the better, cooler (or hotter, perhaps, for the fire theme of the red ninja) him, since his acting never seemed to fully convince them. Trying to impersonate a standard he couldn't seem to reach, some legendary hero he wasn't- er, wasn't yet! Yeah! He just needed to prove himself, be better, and he'd be fine. Just... fine. Yeah.
Mini-Lloyd (Red was tempted to call him L'ilyod in his head, but that felt wrong somehow, like he was infringing on some kind of copyright law) stared at him like a goddamn falcon, and he wasn't talking about the bird that circled the ship. He had this bowl-cut Red would tease him about endlessly after all this was over- seriously, how had Mr. Fabulous Hair started with this mess? Garmadon probably didn't even have hair, so there was no way the guy knew how to style it, and it was very evident based on Mini-Lloyd's hairdo.
Red noticed that all of them were staring, actually. Despite his relaxed rest against the rails, his fingers behind his back clutched the cool bar with a dull shake. He didn't notice how the metal seemed to glow red under his touch.
"Training, right, we should get onto that," Red tried. "What do you want to start with, Lloyd?"
"How about a little game?" Lloyd asked with complete innocence. "What we were playing last week before we got interrupted."
Oh sh!t.
"I-I don't know, shouldn't we start with stretches? Or how about some sparring, that's always more fun than a game!"
"But I wanted to continue our game..." Mini Lloyd said, and FSM's sake, he couldn't deal with that pouting look.
Okay. Okay, don't panic. Think logically. What kind of game would an 8-year-old Lloyd like to play with him? Something physical, so no board games- he liked to test his mettle against Zane on those, and sometimes he would almost not-lose. Logic puzzles also fell more on Jay's area. Trivia, especially music trivia, was a bubble between the anxious motormouth and Cole. Video games fell on team building, and wouldn't classify as a training warmup.
"Well," Red said, taking a hopeful stab in the dark. "There's not too much space on the deck for... tag..."
Lloyd nodded, looking satisfied. The Not-Ninja looked- well, their expressions were hard to read because of how different it was compared to his friends. But Red was a master of deception (well, fire, but eh, technicalities), and he had them fooled, and he just had to keep it up until nightfall so he could rescue Lloyd and explain in a safe location-
"HE'S NOT KAI!"
Orrrrr improvise. Okay, yep, he could improvise.
Red lunged forward and grabbed Mini Lloyd's wrist from where he had his hand extended in an accusatory point. He ducked under Not-Jay's attempts to grab him- fast, but not as fast as his Jay, his Jay who could disappear from an awkward social interaction in the span of a flickering lightbulb- and dragged his younger brother with him as he vaulted over the railing. Not-Zane almost managed to yank him back onto the Not-ship, but his icy grip caught only empty air as Red pulled Lloyd into a tight hold and ducked.
He hit the dock below with a stumble, rolling back onto his feet and taking off with a very stubborn green ninja in tow. It took all his strength to drag Lloyd (kicking and screaming like he was being kidnapped or something when Red was just trying to rescue him, for FSM's sake. Lloyd didn't know that, but he could still try to be at least a little more considerate.)
The wooden docks creaked and shuddered underfoot and Red grimaced; whoever rebuilt them after the latest Garmadon attack had shredded them like newspaper clearly hadn't wasted any unnecessary change. It certainly didn't help that Lloyd packed quite the punch for someone so small. Red definitely would come out of this with bruised shins and arms from where Mini Lloyd tried to push him away, but it would be worth it to keep his teammate, his younger brother, safe.
Then green filled his vision and broke his hold on Lloyd's wrist, sending him skidding across the dock planks as he was sent flying. When he finally rolled to a stop, neck and shoulder stinging from where the blast had caught him (no burns, just jitters like he'd been shocked), he had to take a few seconds to re-orient himself. Did the Not-Ship have cannons or something? What hit him from behind, so close it could have hit Lloyd?
Lloyd. Was Lloyd okay?
Red pushed himself to his feet, ignoring the bleeding scrapes on his hands and legs from where he'd gotten banged up by the splintered docks. His gaze, sharp and frantic, searched for signs of green. The warning of more blasts, the flash of the fabric of a gi, anything.
He spotted his brother in the arms of Not-Cole. No, no, no-
And suddenly Not-Nya was there, given a boost by Not-Jay. Her grip was as if she were wearing the robotic mech suit, harsh and powerful and near in-human. She threw Red back to the dock floor as her face twisted with the fury of a storming ocean. A resounding crack rang out over the harbour.
Red couldn't tell if it came from the planks under him or his own shoulder.
She pinned him to the wood, barking accusations and threats in his face faster than Not-Jay could talk. Red blinked through a haze of pain, trying to focus on her face and words. She was missing the beauty mark on her face, he noticed. Yet another tell she wasn't his sister.
"-scar on the wrong side-" And it was hard to hear again over the ringing in his ears. He tried to throw her off, get back to Lloyd, anything, but he was-
Useless.
Her hands suddenly got in his face, slamming his left cheek to the wood. She was close- close to his face, close to his eye, close to his scar- pushing and prying as she tried to do something. Red picked up in his struggling, his attempts to free himself turning to desperate shoves and wild clawing like a trapped animal. He wouldn't let this creation of Garmadon's finish the job that teen had started all those years ago.
"Or better yet, he needs to shut his damn mouth."
The flash of a knife. His vision half-blurry. Blood- so much blood- and a lasting scar.
"-contacts-" "-red-" "-struggling-" "-we know what he- it- is already-" "-not the real Kai-" "-wish-" "-Garmadon-"
He had to get away. Get Lloyd away from them now.
In one surge of strength- and yep, his shoulder definitely wasn't okay after that move, as if he'd ripped it not just from its socket but from its very attachment to his body- he knocked Not-Nya aside. If he could’ve seen through the red haze, he might have noticed red embers dancing around his fingertips as his desperation and fear tapped into something deep in his soul.
He tried to shoot to his feet, tried to run for Lloyd (held so tight in Not-Cole's grip, surely they were hurting him, he couldn't let that happen-). He roared, "LEAVE MY BROTHER ALONE!", but before he could take another step through Not-Jay and Not-Zane in his path, the docks gave one last ominous shudder  before deciding it had finally had enough.
The planks crumbled underfoot like charred firewood in a crackling campfire, and Red was sent tumbling into the frigid ocean water below.

Oh, and I'll be there waiting
If you start to get jaded
a post 7x06 fic! again i’m open to any advice on how to write jay and hailey 😊😊 i don’t own anything and also the title is from dog years by maggie rogers!!
—————
She had only locked her car and put some quarters in the meter before checking her phone again. Jay was usually pretty good with his phone. The fact he hasn’t responded in hours, especially because of what he has gone through today, had her worried.
For some reason, Voight was still keeping them apart. To be fair, no one really had a set partner for this case, but that didn’t make this issue gnaw any less on her. She not only missed being with him, but also keeping an eye on him with cases like these. And how their paths kept missing each other today, it felt like it wasn’t just Voight keeping them apart, but the entire universe.
And with Jay not answering her calls or texts, it was a no-brainer for Hailey to end up at his place. She honestly didn’t think she would be able to sleep tonight without knowing that he’s all right.
She quickly walked to the front of the building, the wind starting to pick up. It was still fall in Chicago, but the weather was more like winter. The temperature has dropped even more the past few days. She wouldn’t be surprised if it would start to snow soon. Despite knowing it wouldn’t do much, Hailey adjusted her hat and scarf, as if she would feel warmer.
She put a gloved-covered finger onto the button that had Jay’s apartment number above it, pressing until she heard a buzzing sound.
A few minutes passed with no response, having her wonder if she didn’t press the button completely. But when she pressed it again, she heard the buzzing loud and clear. She looked up at the building with a frown. Where the hell was Jay?
Her mind scrambling for ideas on what to do next, when the answer appeared right in front of her.
“Hailey?”
At the sound of Jay’s voice, she whirled around. He was alright. At least physically, she noted. His face looked drained and in particular, his eyes looked haunted. She resisted the urge to go down the steps to be with him, choosing to stay put.
“You weren’t answering your phone.” She said, as an explanation for her being there. What was left unsaid was how she was worried about him, that she had to find out how he was.
“My phone’s dead.” He held up the device.
“Oh.” Before she got here, she had a load of things to talk about with him. The case, how he was. But now with him in front of her, she was at a loss of words.
She stepped aside as he walked up the stairs, taking note of his slow and weary steps. His defeated presence tugged at her heartstrings, more than they ever had before.
He didn’t deserve this burden.
Hailey reached out to put a hand on his back. He stiffened, clearly not expecting her action. He didn’t say anything though, and once he unlocked the building he simply walked in.
He held the door open though, signaling to her that she could follow. She did so, following him as he began his trek up the stairs. The only sounds being made were the creaks of each step they went up. Hailey’s own mind was much louder. With words she wasn’t saying, words about how this wasn’t Jay’s fault and he was a good cop.
And mostly of helplessness, knowing that no matter what she did, she couldn’t make Jay feel better. She couldn’t bring Marcus West back from the grave, and she couldn’t change the conviction.
But damn she could try. This was her partner, unofficially or not, she couldn’t let him rot in his emotions. Which was why when they finally reached his apartment, Hailey started to make a beeline towards his kitchen. “Do you want me to make you something?” She asked, her hands itching to do something. To help.
Jay’s hand on her elbow stopped her. She turned back around, her eyes going from his hand to his face. Despite her jacket covering her, Hailey swore she could feel the rough calluses of his fingertips against her skin.
She shook her head slightly. Her mind couldn’t go there right now. She tilted her chin up to Jay, telling him to say what he wanted to say.
He did. “Can we sit down instead?” He asked, already letting go of her arm and heading towards the couch.
Hailey sat down next to him, close enough that their shoulders and thighs brushed. Not wanting to make the same mistake of assuming what he needed, she simply sat there, waiting for Jay to tell her what he wanted. Or needed.
And if it reached the point she needed to take initiative, she would. It was her responsibility not only as a partner but as a friend.
But it was Jay that broke first, although it wasn’t with words. His head fell onto her shoulder, an action she wasn’t expecting.
It made her heart drop. While Jay never liked to be verbally vulnerable, physically it was even more disliked. This alone made all the events they have went through together that have shaken him deeply not compare.
She instinctively begun doing something her mom used to do to comfort her. Her fingers ran through his hair as she gently rubbed his scalp. By the time she realized what she doing, the awkwardness had already passed.
“If this cop thing doesn’t work out for you,” Jay started to mumble to her. “being a masseuse might.”
Hailey snorted, ignoring the way she shivered at the feeling of Jay’s breath hitting her skin. “Like you could find a partner better than me.”
He chuckled at that. Hailey smiled to herself at the sound, even though she could hear the sadness tinged within.
Right after, the mood became somber again.
At this point she thought they would have already started talking about today’s events. That’s usually how it went for them, anyways. Believing she already gave him enough time, she decided to bring up the elephant in the room.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She softly asked, erring on the side of caution. Although he has been improving with therapy, she knew he still had the habit of shutting down and not wanting to discuss things.
“I killed him, Hailey.” She almost didn’t hear his whisper, and had to strain her ears to catch the rest of what he said. “I killed a man who wasn’t guilty—“ Jay’s voice started to waver. “—and to save my ass he had to still be charged with the crime he didn’t commit.”
Hailey was surprised to find her eyes being pricked with tears. She typically wasn’t the type to get emotional, but she couldn’t deny how much this case had affected her simply because it has torn Jay apart. But he couldn’t see her, so she began talking with a controlled voice. “You didn’t—“
Jay jolted up at that, only staying on the couch because of Hailey’s hand on his thigh. “I did, Hailey. I put him in county when I could have kept him in solitary.”
“You did it to get him to talk, Jay. Not to get him killed.”
“It doesn’t matter what I meant to do.” His voice was getting more agitated. More frustrated.
Hailey was finding herself becoming more frustrated too, but more in desperation. She needed Jay to see he wasn’t to blame. “Yes it does! Because if we only thought about the outcomes we would have been destroyed by this job years ago!”
With their voices and emotions rising, the sob that came out of Jay wasn’t in anyway expected by Hailey.
Also because this was something she had never experienced with Jay. He had never cried in front of her before. And he wasn’t just crying, he was sobbing, and she could hear all his pain and guilt from the case in his cries.
All possible words were caught in her throat, so Hailey did the next best thing. She wrapped her arm around his shoulder, and once again Jay’s head fell onto her shoulder. Just this time he had tears as well.
Cases like these were always hard personally, but seeing the people you care about struggle was even harder.
So as Jay continued to cry, Hailey kept her own emotions at bay and sat silently. Because what words could possibly make Jay feel better? A man was dead, no words of inspiration or nicely strung together ones could help.
After what it seemed like forever, Jay’s cries started to fade. He then sat up, keeping his face hidden as he wiped away his tears. Hailey was tempted to comment, but bit her tongue. It was one thing to push Jay emotion wise, another to comment on his crying.
His eyes were completely bloodshot by the time she was able to get full view of his face. They weren’t the only indicator of his crying spell, his entire face was flushed and his eyes still glistened with tears.
She could tell he was uncomfortable with his vulnerable state as he diverted from the current atmosphere and made a joke. “I’ll get you a new shirt, I promise.” He said, almost sounding like he normally did except for the slight break in his voice.
“I don’t give two shits about my shirt, Jay.”
He was quiet again. It was her least favorite sound of the night. At least when he was crying he was being open about his pain. When he was silent, he was letting his emotions gnaw at his insides.
When he sat up, he increased the distance between them. Hailey closed it, placing her hand over his to gain his attention.
“I know it won’t make the shitty feelings go away, but I’m with you and I’m always here to listen.” She told him as empathetically as she could.
“Thanks, Hailey.” Jay looked lost in thought, not listening to what she was saying. The only evidence that he was was when he squeezed her hand.
She squeezed his back. She couldn’t fix what happened, and he couldn’t either. But she was here to support him and help him keep going and that had to be enough.

The Truth, and too much of it
TITLE:  The Truth, and too much of it CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: 1/1
AUTHOR: TesseractJ ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine, you and Loki are members of the Avengers, and during a mission, an enemy has taken you and given you the truth potion to try to get you to reveal the team’s secrets. You’re rescued before you tell him anything. Back at the base, while waiting for the potion to leave your system, you keep saying and describing various sexual thoughts you have about Loki out loud  RATING: Mature(barely) NOTES/WARNINGS: References to smut, kinks, drugs, mental illness, truth serum, nebulous past trauma.  Kidnapping, capture, interrogation are present but pretty glossed over.
This all takes place within the universe of a bigger fanfic I’m working on.  I’m planning some one shots based on prompts, placed in this universe.  The OC is pretty much a shameless self-insert.
The trick to this drug seemed to be to turn the stream of consciousness into a personally interesting rant. I was slowly driving my captors nuts with it.
They asked about Iron Man’s weaknesses and got a rant about Tony’s inability to receive a cup of cocoa when handed to him, or his habit of ordering dinner before anyone had decided what to eat or cook. The best info they gained was his favorite drinks and favorite swimsuit model. That rant lasted a good hour, broken by attempt to steer the information to their needs.
“Nooo, weaknesses in the his suit design!” “Like clothes? Nope, he’s got a great designer for clothes. Perfect designs.” They learned his strange clothing choices, designer apparel with $2,000 cufflinks, and then a great deal about Pepper’s awesome wardrobe. They cut me off again when I started talking about the history of the color pink and child product consumerism.
“No, his suit, tell us about the Iron Man suit weaknesses!”
“Have you seen that thing? Who thinks red is a good color for a suit? Tony freakin’ Stark. I love the guy, but any chance it could be black, brown, camo? Noooooo. Red and Gold! Not that Steve’s suit is better. Still, he didn’t design it so I give him a break there… usually.” That devolved into a comparison of all Avengers’ gear designs, and more embarrassingly who looked hot in what.
They tried asking about the defences for Avenger’s Tower and the compound. I had more trouble deflecting that. I couldn’t help but start talking about FRIDAY, but once I got myself talking about the AI’s personality I was off on a rant about the comparisons between her program, the TESS program in my Neural Interface and JARVIS. TESS won that comparison, after 15 minutes of one sided discussion.
“What is Nick Fury’s home address?” I laughed at the likelihood of anyone knowing that answer. No one could discover his favorite coffee, let alone his home address, codes, birthday, favorite color, etc.
“Does Black Widow fear anything?” I got in 15 minutes about how amazing spiders are, how they are related to horseshoe crabs, how insects were the first land animals and what does Natasha have to do with sea lions?
“Listen up! We don’t know what another dose of this will do.” Interrogator #3 held up another vial of whatever they kept dosing me with. “We’d prefer you sane and useful, at least until we sell you and your info to the highest bidder. You are really making that hard.”
“Maybe the drug is no good on me? Did you test it on normal humans or genetic experiments visiting from other universes? There’s only a few of us visitors hanging around, so, I’d be pretty supri-”
“There’s more of you?” Interrogator #1 exclaimed, looking both excited and worried at the thought.
I almost winced, that was more info than I wanted to share, but,”More of me? Not on this planet that’s for sure. We tend to aggravate each other outside of specialized conditions.” “More visitors fro… what the hell was that?”
I was saved from accidentally revealing anything by some very loud sounds coming from somewhere not too far off. I sighed in relief. “You all are in so much trouble now. If Nat, Bruce or Loki are here you are dead meat.” Now I explained how painfully dead those three would make my captors.
“… and after the Hulk puts you through a wall Loki will pull your insides out through any hole he finds. If you haven’t died yet he’ll-”
“Shut up! This can’t just be the drug. You must be insane! Who says all that so cheerfully? How did you take a question about the Hulk and turn it into a lecture about Black Holes, Stars Exploding and Poles?” I grinned at the remaining guy in the room. That had been a fun stream about Gamma Ray bursts, threats to life in the universe and Magnetic Pole reversal.
Huh, when did the other two guys leave the room? I was knew the drug was affecting my awareness, but that was worse than I thought. Oh well, the door was flying open and I was given a second off from having to answer anything as I watched Steve stop the final guys questions.
My awareness hazed out for the next bit until I was breathing fresh air and realized that I was explaining to Cap how medicines for mental illness had side effects like memory loss.
“Is she alright? Let me see her!” I heard a pleasant, if urgent, voice cut through my mental fog.
“Loki! I told them they’d be in big trouble if you came. I knew you would be here. Did you rip anyone to shreds? Did Nat come and break some bones?” I asked happily, likely sounding almost drunk.
Loki looked straight into my face, eyebrows drawn in confusion. Instead of answering me he turned to Steve, who had helped walk me outside. “What has happened to her, Captain? What have they done to her?”
“It seems they had a truth serum of some sort. We gave Bruce samples and he’s already started analysing it on the Jet. We’ll know more by the time we get home.”
“Know more? I’m certain I could reveal everything we need from one of the prisoners,” Loki got a dangerous glint in his eye.
Steve was going to raise an objection, but I couldn’t keep my mouth closed. “Awww, I know I shouldn’t, but I love the way you look when you get all dangerous and angry.”
Loki turned back to me in concern and surprise. Before he could ask for clarification on my apparent love of his dark side I continued with more helpful information. “It’s some sort of temporary inhibition release, like a truth serum thingie mixed with ativan mixed with alcohol. They said it calms the subject(me!), reduces or rids control of mind to mouth and encourages open thinking. I really don’t think they realized what open thinking means for me. They learned a lot about my love of sciency stuff and how I adore all of you guys, verrrry little about our defences or secrets.”
I looked more seriously over at Steve,”I was getting really loopy at the end there. It’s worth seeing if they got a record of anything in case something important slipped. I haven’t heard TESS, since the first dose, but she might be fully operational and have a record.” Always helpful to have an AI built into your brain, or adjacent to it, or whatever Stark called it.
I felt a hand turn my face so I would look back at Loki. “But are you alright, love? Did they hurt you?” The concern on his face sobered me up as we started walking to the Jet. My general awareness seemed to be coming back as I also noticed a SHIELD team run past about twenty feel off, and Tony was talking to someone while pointing back at the building I had been held in. The Jet was only a few hundred feet away, like a little piece of home come to get me.
“I’ll be fine, I think it was just a few scratches and bruises. They insisted the drug needed high doses to hurt a normal brain, and you know my physiology would handle way more than a normal human brain.” I paused to look closer at him and say,”Sorry I got kidnapped, again. I really don’t want to worry anyone, especially you.” Memories of the previous, and much worse, abduction made me shudder lightly.
I felt his arm pull me closer to him as we started up the ramp. He seemed to take a moment to breath the scent off my hair. “It’s hardly your fault. I do wish I could keep such events from occurring. However, I would like to return to a comment you made a moment ago.”
I looked up at him in confusion as we settled into the seats. “You enjoy my dangerous and angry look?”
Even in my current state I felt a blush start, “Well, yeah. You know I think you are extra sexy when you are all serious, or protective and angry. It’s not like I never told you that, right? Or, wait, no, yeah, didn’t I mention it that first time we had the silk cords and candles, whe-”
“Uh, Juliana, you know Bruce and I are standing right here, right?” Steve asked in a soft but mortified tone. Bruce looked like he wanted to shrink into oblivion.
Any blush I had before was nothing compared to the the heat I felt on my face now.  No, I hadn’t even thought about who else was on the plane. It was as if everything but Loki and I had disappeared. Loki had one of his freakin’ smirks going and I knew he felt no shame. “Oh good lord, I’m so sorry Steve. Hi Bruce, sorry. Umm, thanks guys for coming to rescue me and I can’t believe… stop smirking Loki!” I whacked him on the shoulder.
Bruce tried to sound understanding,”No, it’s fine, I get it. You are under the influence, so to speak, Don’t, don’t worry about it Jay. Just glad you’re okay.”
“Don’t worry about what?” Tony’s load steps echoed into the Jet as he came onboard. His suit was on, helmet off, and he looked curious.
The answer came from the cockpit, which furthered my embarrassment,”It’s nothing Tony, that’s why we don’t have to worry.” Clint had heard me too.
Everyone should have known Tony would have none of that. Loki’s smirk became a full grin as Tony said,”Oh no, it’s something.” He looked at me appraisingly, then pointed as he figured it out,”You’re still drugged and started dishing out something good. What is it? Spill.”
My face hit my hands as I started,”Well, I was remembering the time Loki and I-”
“TONY, no! No taking advantage of this. Sorry Jay, you don’t have to answer,” Steve interjected before things got too far.
“But daaaad, it was gonna be fun!” Tony whined.
I got to grin as I watched Tony piss off Steve, which kept up until Natasha got on board and we prepared to head home. I learned that Thor had flown off for a date as soon as he heard I was rescued. That turned out to be a very good thing, because Loki wasn’t done with his fun.
A few minutes after take off I was finally quiet, staring at the spot I had been lying in after me last rescue. I wanted to curse the system of balances that made pain and fear a good substitute for all the bad things I could stop. It was worth it but…
”Surely a simple smile did not merit such a violent response,” Loki spoke up, rubbing his shoulder as if I had actually hurt him. “I would love to hear more about what you were remembering. I can’t seem to place what you were speaking of,” he sounded almost thoughtful, under his blasted smile.
“Oh good lord, Loki! Don’t think I doubt you remember that perfectly well. Green silk cords, specialty candles, those flo-”
“Hmmm Hrmm,” Steve coughed as I turned red again.
“Oh great, I am still just spewing out everything in my head. How long will this last?”
I glanced over at Bruce, who was looking very uncomfortable. “Oh, um, I don’t really know. I’ve tried to hook FRIDAY in to TESS and they are running some numbers. Let me see… oh, looks like 3-6 hours?”
I gasped,”Oh no, no no, is there a sedative, yeah, sedative you can give me? I am not ready for my inner dialogue here.”
“Jay, Juliana, you just sat with strangers for over 7 hours under the influence. We are much safer,” Steve tried to reason.
“First off, I don’t care what those a-holes think of me. Second off, different circumstances lead to very different answers. I was in a clinical interrogation, it was easy to stay impersonal. You all are my family, it’s personal here. Third, look at Loki’s face! He’s planning mischief!”
Loki put on an air of hurt innocence,”I most certainly am not!”
“Ugh, we all know better darling. You might be subtle, but you are trouble,” I glared, with maybe a hint of love bleeding through.
“I could be less subtle dear, if you like. Or I could,” he leaned in, close to my ear, “ask something very subtle, like what do you want?”
Everybody else disappeared again as my answer took over. He made things worse by skating his fingers over my neck. “I want to strip your armor off, throw you down and kiss every part of you until you-”
“Loki, enough! That’s enough of this!” Steve sounded half panicked, half furious. He was trying to use his Captain America voice, though it sounded just a little off.
“Perhaps if you and Bruce are finding this uncomfortable, you could move farther away from our conversation,” Loki offered.
Tony snorted at that. He was having a grand time now. This was all he wanted out of a good truth serum debacle. Steve was flustered, I was flustered but showing my kinky side, and Loki was grinning like the happiest God of Mischief in the universe.
Loki looked back at me,”You must be hungry after everything.”
“Seriously, using that voice and saying that? Of course I am hungry,” I said, trying to steer my thoughts to food, chocolate, fruit, oh no. “I would love to have some chocolate and, and, and,” I tried to fight it,” annnnd I would love to lick it off of you, bit by bit. I would paint both of us in it, and then use a whole strawberry…”
Steve and Bruce fled as far as they could get. Tony’s eyes went wide as he gleefully listened to my fantasy. Loki got a different look in his eyes, promising fun down the line.
It was a few days later that I thought back and realized something quite important. Every time I had started to get overwhelmed with memories from that previous trauma, Loki would step in an distract me with stupid salacious prompts. I couldn’t decide whether or not to thank him, or if I should explain that he could have picked a less embarrassing distraction. Then I remembered that look in his eyes, and how once I got a clean bill of health we made good use of green silk cords and plenty of chocolate. Not much more needed to be said, once I thought of that.

The Truth, and too much of it
Here we go, Fanfic 1.
I got the prompt for this at http://imagine-loki.tumblr.com/post/153439568024/imagine-you-and-loki-are-members-of-the-avengers
Now, I am so new to all this and I probably need to learn tons more about Tumblr, presentation, etc. I also need a PC for this. Instead, I'll let it fly.
Summary: OC is a long time Avenger, gets kidnapped, gets drugged, gets rescued, and shares far more of her love life with Loki than she ever wanted to. Steve and Bruce want to hide, Tony wants to listen and Loki keeps prompting for more.
OC and basic universe is based on a much bigger fanfic I have been working on. Basically she's a shameless self-insert, Loki is doing better and is an Avenger, and everyone actually does live together when possible creating a nice family of happy Avengers. Definite references to smut, sex, kinks and NSFW stuff. Also minor references to a nebulous past trauma.

Goner//Josh Dun Fanfiction
Note: Since it’s pretty much based on the idea that the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher presented. It contains suicide, and some other pretty dark stuff. Each chapter will have its own warnings, but in the mean time be careful while reading—I don’t want to cause any harm.
Xx
He was a nobody last month—when the teachers would call his name in attendance, everyone would look around. Confused expressions adorning their features, he seemed like a myth. Like a legend.
“I heard that Josh kid killed a dude once.”
“Really? Because I heard he was raised by wolves” Stupid things created by rather stupid people—usually. The more insane and unrealistic stories seemed like a comic relief compared to the other rumors spread about the boy. You heard all about how he allegedly tried drowning his younger sister, how he allegedly got kicked out of his old school because he was dealing drugs, how he allegedly slit his wrists all day everyday.
You chose to ignore them—you rather liked Josh. Well when you saw him anyway. Columbus high wasn’t particularly small—there were a minimum of 3 classes each for all the core subjects; far more for the extracurricular. You were lucky though; you got to share 3 of 4 classes with this mysterious new kid. The one who kept his head down and only spoke when spoken to. You wish you could’ve figured out why.
Xx
You internally groaned as your teacher began talking—not about science, not about chemicals. Rather, he was discussing suicide. The topic on everybody’s mind since the “nobody” became the school celebrity. It made you sick to see everyone fake compassion, suddenly turn into heroes; or what they believed was a hero.
“I know this is a fresh wound for everyone, considering it has only been 2 weeks. But all the staff at Columbus High would like to reach out for any student needing help. Mental health is just as important as physical health! If your brain is off balance, then your whole body will follow.” You stared outside, choosing to ignore the latest soapbox speech. The sky was gray, except it wasn’t raining—nor did the clouds look like they wanted to pour. Rather it was just a dark undertone, blocking away the sunlight. Almost like the universe was foreshadowing the boy’s fate. “Now if you know anyone who is going through tough times; please remember that getting them help is much more important than keeping a friendship.” You cast your gaze over to the teacher, who was putting his paper on the desk. Figures, the school gave them a premade speech to rattle off. “Do any of you have any questions?” You took a deep breath in, waiting for the vultures to dive in for the kill.
“This kid, is he dead?” One of the basketball players asked from the back of the room; his expression was neutral but you could’ve sworn you heard his voice waver just a little.
“I am not in a position to discuss that with you Mr. Joseph. That is something you will have to talk to the family about. Are there any other questions?” Your gaze went to the basketball player, who was gnawing on his lip—deep in thought. Probably contemplating another question.
“If he does die, will there be an investigation and charges? Will it be treated like murder or just his bad decision making?” The people around him snickered at the end of his sentence, finding a cruel amusement in the insult. You found it sickening—for the fact that he probably tried killing himself for this exact reason.
“That is up to the family to decide.” The teacher stated bluntly, turning his attention to the latest unit. Trying to avoid being put in any more awkward situations for one morning. You pulled open your notebook, clicking your pen. Trying to ignore the heavy feeling settled in your chest—you barely knew this kid, so why is all the suicide talk getting to you?
Xx
“Hey! Y/L/N!” You heard someone call as you walked toward the lunchroom—your morning classes droned on, filled with chatter about Josh. Why people think he did it, what they think happened, even as far as how. It disgusted you to the core. You turned to see that basketball player, Joseph you think his name was walking up beside you.  ‘‘You didn‘t look so good in class today, I was coming to see if you were alright” You were taken back by the question—despite its seemingly innocent motive.
“I’m fine, thank you Joseph.” You whispered, turning to leave toward the cafeteria once again.
“It’s Tyler, and you just didn’t seem so good when they brought up those rough topics. I just thought I’d be a support. So if you ever need anything. Call me.” He extended his hand out to yours—keeping up with you as you walked. You rolled your eyes before taking the paper and shoving it haphazardly into your pocket. “Before you think anything; I’m not playing any cheesy hookup lines on you. I actually care and don’t want this to happen to someone else.” He whispered to you, before changing paths and meeting up with the rest of the basketball team.
You couldn’t quite wrap your mind around it, the basketball team captain was suddenly being nice to you? Something was definitely up.
Xx
“Hi honey, how was your day?” Your mom asked, walking up to the door to greet you. Eyes shimmering with curiosity.
“It was fine, pretty boring though. Just notes all class.” You shrugged, taking your shoes off and making your way to your room. Your mom following you most of the way, asking you a variety of questions about your day. What were the notes on, did you learn anything interesting? Did you make any new friends? Needless to say, you were kind of resentful at what this Josh kid had caused—suddenly nobody left you alone. It was a constant stream of “how are you? Are you okay? How was your day?” and other fake interest. You liked it better when you could sit on the outside of the world and watch it as it passed, popping in on your own accord.
“Y/N, your bag is hanging wide open!” Your mom commented, as soon as you reached your door. You scrunched your nose up—you definitely remember zipping it before you made your way out of school. Except when you slung it off your back—the zipper was wide open. What the hell?
“I must’ve forgot to zip it! I’m going to make sure everything is here and do my homework. Okay mom, love you.” You quickly slipped into your room, shutting the door behind you before emptying the contents of your backpack on the bed.
Books, check. Pencil case, check. Notebook, check. Weird bag thing, check? You arched and eyebrow as you opened the zip lock bag. It seemed to have a brown paper bag inside of it. Sitting cross-legged on your bed you slowly pulled out the bag. Praying it didn’t have an illegal substance somewhere within it. You grabbed one end of the brown bag, letting out a shocked scream when it unrolled itself and something fell to you lap. Provoking the curiosity of your mother.
“I’m fine mom! No need to come in, just saw a spider that’s all.” You yelled out to her, taking a breath of relief when you saw it was only a usb drive that fell to your lap—not drugs. You inspected the drive, it was seemingly normal. Had a few scratches along it, but what doesn’t? Putting it to the side, you looked closer at the brown bag, opening it to find a few sheets of paper crammed inside.
For Your Eyes ONLY. Strange enough. You opened the paper, heart clenching when you saw a boyish handwriting sprawled across the page.
It’s simple. Watch the videos, pack up the usb and instructions, and move along—maybe even change a bit. That could never hurt right?
Besides that, keep this within the group—and keep it going. You wouldn’t want to know what would happen if it stopped, but what threat am I? I’m either dead or comatose.
JD
No. It couldn’t be. Why is this coming to you? Maybe it was a mistake? You flopped over the side of your bed, reaching underneath to pull your laptop up onto your bed. Tapping nervously you watched as the technology in front of you took forever to open. And forever to recognize the USB.
13 files. Each were labeled with a number—nothing else. Taking a deep breath you clicked the first file—watching as the media player popped up, starting a video of a dark room. The only sounds were that of a furnace and someone’s breathing. Shivers found their way down your spine when you were met with a somewhat familiar face—he looked calm. A small smirk playing at his lips.
“I’m not going to repeat myself with instructions—if the person before you neglected to add them. Listen, find them and figure out what you need to do.” He let out a emotionless laugh. “Other than that, hey. Glad you could make it to the party.” You felt your chest tighten as your eyes burned with tears. You barely knew him, but seeing his face. No emotion, nothing on it made your heart shatter.
“To set the record straight here, no I didn’t leave any notes, no my family doesn’t know why and no all your rumors are probably wrong.” You paused the video, resting your elbows on your knees and holding your head up with your hands. Why was this sent to you?? “I know what you’re wondering, “What is this and why am I included”, in dear time friend. In due time you’ll know. Just listen for a bit—like I do. Well used to.” You stared at the screen, in complete shock. Jumping slightly when a knock came on your door.
“Honey, are you coming down for supper tonight?” Your mom asked—probably wondering how many plates to prepare.
“No, I’m really busy and not too hungry.” You called back, reaching in your bag for a pair of headphones. Plugging them in before warily pressing play again.
“If you’re ready for a ride, lets go. Congrats Mr. Cos, you’re the lucky first contestant.”

Orange Juice. Check. Fruit cut to bite size. Check. Scones filled with gooey whatever Jay had picked out. Check. All neatly (almost painfully so) arranged on the tray. Okay he’s got this. He just has to get it from the table where he’d put everything together, across the apartment, down the hall and into her room. He’s totally got this. Fingers flexing a few times before he finds enough moxxie to pick up the tray. Moving carefully around the table and onward.
She’s been working too much. Not that he can say that out loud, because he’s guilty of the same. In fact work is exactly where he’s supposed to be right now. But there was something in her voice last night on the brief phone call they’d shared. What he can’t say. But it was something. And it had kept him up most of the night. Eventually spilling to his mother what was bothering him–and it is mostly his parent that’s the reason he’s even working his way quietly down the hallway now. With breakfast in bed in hand.
Play hookie. His mother had said. Call in sick, talk her into doing the same and just get in your truck and go. And that’s exactly what he’d done. Stopped at Jay’s for breakfast. Eaten more than he should have to kill time until it wasn’t the back end of too early. And here he is. Pushing her door open with his elbow, catching it with his foot and only just barely managing not to slosh the juice everywhere. But then he makes the mistake of looking up and…
He’s stuck. Mid-move. Foot still hooked behind the door. The universe both his friend and his enemy in that moment. What for the way the sunlight has crept its way into the room. Pouring over blankets and burrowing into the dark strands of her hair. Framing her face in an almost ethereal like sheen. She’s beautiful. He’d known that the moment he’d laid eyes on her but this….safe and warm and tucked away in her dreams he hopes are kind, she’s breath taking. And it isn’t until she stirs. Realizes he’s there and offers him a smile that taught the sun how to shine that he moves again. Keeping his thoughts to himself and holding out the tray a bit awkwardly.
“Thought ya could use sum’m t’eat.”

Not in a million years. Lie. Not sober at least. Another lie. Lies because all she had to do was ask. Because when or how could he tell her no? From the second he’d met her, anything and everything had always been yes. And how strange that is. For a man that’s grown so used to no, in almost every sense of the word.
He can’t dance, but she doesn’t seem to care. And the smile on her face could replace every star in the sky; so making an idiot out of himself is worth it. And maybe it’s the lights. Maybe it’s the liquor swimming in his veins. Maybe its just her, and all that she is but right then? He can’t remember her ever looking quite so beautiful. Or quite so bright. She’s happy and if Apple is anything at all, happiness suits her. In something akin to a radiant glow.
And maybe he should say something. Maybe he should tell her. But he doesn’t does he? No he just stares in awe. Like she’s the only person in the room. And maybe that’s not so far fetched. Because how could he possibly notice a single other creature around them? How could he be blamed for being blind to all else that moved? She’s breath-taking something that just might kill him, fit together as they are in the middle of the dance floor.

He’s not ever really been a star gazer, but since Beth he’s become a lot of things he’s not. Someone that needs someone around. Someone that checks his phone just to make sure he hasn’t missed a call or a text. Someone that gets distracted by the memory of silk fingers running along his skin, and drops a wrench into the well of a quinjet. Someone whose life isn’t quite so routine anymore, because she’s a way of turning plan on their end–and Christ if he doesn’t love her for it despite the playful irritation he puts out sometimes.
So here they are. Just a little north-west of home. Laid out on a blanket, with the lake spread out at their feet. And the stars hanging over head. A small bond fire to keep the slight autumn chill away. And he can’t say it isn’t nice. Doesn’t feel good to pretend they’re really fifty miles outside no where special. With no where to go in a hurry. Someday….someday maybe they can be. But for now this will do. This little pocket of wilderness where his dad used to take him camping. And maybe he’s only just so happy to make more memories here. Ones that are meant to be kept between just her and him.
              Da'kine dere, dat Leo…da lion
                 “Yea…”
She goes so far as to point it out, but he can’t be assed to spare a glance. She is perhaps taken in by the sky above them, but Bastian’s too enthralled by her to be bothered with the heavens. Not a single star or planet above them can hold a candle to her so why should he spare them even a moment? Chosing instead to map out every smooth line in her face instead. Watching the way the fire light dances and sinks into her skin. That is so many shades darker than his own. Softer. Perfect.
And maybe it’s just him, maybe he’s bias but the stars can never compare to the galaxies reflected in her gaze. So he answers when he’s supposed too. Mumbled comments. But while she outlines twins, and hunters and oddly shaped fish-Bastian is outlining the moment. Tucking it away to keep. Because there is nothing upon this earth, or in the expanse of creation above them; that could ever be as breath-taking as the woman nestled beside him.
          Is choke beautiful heah
And in place of an audible agreement, Bastian just smiles.

It’s fucking flooding. There’s no other way to describe it. Traffic backed up to nearly his own god damn drive way. He hasn’t moved an inch in what feels like hours even if its only been a hand full of minutes. But he’s in a hurry. And fuck it, he’s cutting out of his lane. Weaving Ela through cars with ease that comes from years of practice of riding on her back. Fuck the police…literally. He’s got somewhere to be. It’s important.
Somewhere between the last intersection that’s grid locked and the next he hears blues, but he doesn’t stop. He keeps going. A sharp turn down an alley much to small for a patrol car to follow, and wrenching the gas. Rain pelting his jacket, cutting into his jeans. Striking his helmet and visor like damn bullets. And he skids when he comes out the other side, sliding across water logged asphalt. Narrowly avoiding a collision with a passing car. And he’s back at much to high a speed given the weather.
Flickering red and white lights ahead. Cars slowing down and stopping entirely and he’s forced to a stop again. Spitting a slew of newly fashioned curse words that are neither quite English nor his mother’s tongue. And a split second later he’s killing Ela’s engine. Snatching the keys from the ignition, and running her into a space along the side walk. Almost not getting her kick stand out and his helmet off and stowed before his feet are carrying him away.
Hammering through umbrella sheltered by standers, skidding to a halt at the line of proverbial scrimmage. Where all that stands between him and what might just be his worst nightmare, is blue uniforms and barricades. And he tries to push through that too, regardless of the resistance. Gaze darting everywhere trying to find her in the chaos. Because no. Not her. Not her. Not her. Not h—
But the waters part. Figuratively and a bit literally. The rain lets up just enough to see farther than three feet ahead. And there she is. Standing still and stark against the black smoking backdrop of a building half sunk into the street. The snap shot forever ingrained in his memory. Because no matter how many times he’d thought it before, none of the moments before compare to now. How breath-taking she is by just being alive. And the struggle against the uniform that do their best to hold him back begins again.
       “APPLES!               —-BETH!”
            “Pilikia?”
It’s all the response he needs because he can feel it in the way she speaks. She needs help and no one around her seems to care. The officers fixed with a look that tells them without words to get out of his way or end up in sipping through a straw for the rest of the lives. And fortunately for both parties they comply. Heavy feet pounding across the ocean the street has become. His heart gathered up in his arms without words. Lifted from the earth, she seems so ready to collapse upon.
        “I got y’Apps…s’okay.”
5 -
Nothing special. Just dinner with his parents. Like they do every Thursday. Because though his mailing address has changed…he rarely sleeps here anymore. So Thursdays are family night. Dinner and a movie on the couch. A movie he almost always falls asleep watching. But he wouldn’t trade it for much of anything. Because this is what normal feels like. What he’s secretly wanted despite how much he knew he couldn’t risk it. But Beth is different. And maybe somewhere in the far corners of his soul he knows–that everything happened for a reason.
There’s a sound from the kitchen. And he looks up from the soccer game him and his dad are watching. Well more him mostly. His old man is scratching words into today’s crossword but the sentiment is there all the same. And there’s a bit of a twitching smile on his lips, as he watches the two women across the room. Heads together and layering out his mother’s secret recipe lasagna. And for moments maybe his mother fades out into the backdrop of the room. Utterly focused on Apple’s face.
The way her mouth turns up in a smile, then down when pours a little too much sauce in. The way she laughs again at something he doesn’t hear his mother say. The self conscious tucking of her hair behind her ear, and the wooden spoon trying to take back some of the sauce. Only she splatters it and there’s a squeak when it hits her in the face. More laughing and his mother’s hand coming into view to wipe away the red.
Normal….mundane….domestic. It looks good on her. And maybe he fools himself into thinking that someday…he could give her this in a much more permanent way. Something not her apartment. A house. With a picket fence and all the little things a home should be. But the thought is just as fleeting as the moment; and he’s turning back to the TV. A resettling on the couch. Keeping to himself the little kodak moment. Adding it to all the times before he’s thought her too beautiful to be real.

Nervous, does not even begin to describe it. He loves the time of year, but fuck him twelve ways from January he hates the yearly party. All the noise and the groups of people that smell like money and feel like scum. Well some of them anyway. His mother’s team mates were all in all alright. But he’s not going to have his normal escape this year. The one where he hangs around a while. Eventually becomes an almost literal part of the wall, before he slinks off. Down a few floors, striping off his tie and his coat as he goes, to tinker in his work bay in the hanger. And listen to Christmas music his way, and nurse his own brand of poison.
But this year? This year that can’t happen. This year he’s got a plus one for the first time ever. And he can only guess how that’s going to go over. Sam glaring at him all night, while Bastian tries to play nice with everyone else. All for the sake of the little woman whose door he’s waiting outside of. Pulling at his collar. Adjusting his sleeves for the millionth time. The car and his parents waiting downstairs on the street. And he knocks. Once-twice-thrice. Something that sounds like Beth for ‘hang on’ filtering through the door.
A breath pulled in slow, held and pushed out of him in a rush. Shaking out the nerves through his hands and knees. And finally….finally the latch on the door rattles. The knob turns and the door….the door opens. And any amount of calm he’d managed to locate–evaporates. Along with his ability to breathe. His ability to do anything but stare dumb founded and awestruck.
He’s never seen her all done up before. And it sudden occurs to him now he hadn’t really thought about the concept until right this second. Framed in deep blue, her coat hung over her arm and hugged against her. Hair tired up in braids he can’t even begin to follow the design of. And maybe his mouth falls open a little. Eyes widening. His mind screaming into an open mic to say something. Because she’s god damn gorgeous too him on a normal day, but now? Now his heart could stop dead in his chest and it would take decades for him to notice.
             Say sum’m y’idjit!
                “….Wo—y’loo—y’look like rain.”
Nailed it.
