I'm studying Spanish for work and I can't get it out of my head the way I just know Katsuki would sit with flashcards to help.
Every time you messed up he'd bop you on the head with rolled up papers. You'd begin internally screaming when you messed up something he'd taught you a billion times.
"DÓNDE! MEANS! WHERE! Get it through your skull brat." Katsuki exasperates, on round 25 of vocabulary. It's been an hour and a half, the only word you can't seem to get through your head is dónde.
He's sure he's learned more than you have at this point, mind racing with vocabulary and phrases. You'd still need a guide while he'd probably be chatting with a local, asking where the damn airport is.
After a few more failed attempts, he'd put the flashcards down and start massaging at the roots of your scalp to relieve tension. Muttering little nothing's of "you need water and rest" by the end of it.
Katsuki would make mental notes to start watching Spanish television shows, rom-com or not, and quiz you.

The One That Fits Right In Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Rocky Beginnings Reagan stared at the large white school building in front of her. It was her first day at the public high school and since she moved with her family, she already felt nervous. Reagan’s face went pale, she felt like she was going to be sick, there were butterflies in her stomach. It was big, bigger than the palace she used to live in back in Southern France. Was she really going to go in there? Well, she had no other choice. She took a big deep breath and walked up the stairs to the main hall. Reagan look at all the students bustling, talking, and laughing in the hallways. It was completely crowded! She couldn’t even walk without being squished in between one or two of the students. She checked her schedule. The first thing she needed to do was find her locker. It was locker 239. Reagan adjusted her glasses once she managed to get out of the tsunami of students to find her locker. There were endless rows of tall dark green lockers. But which one was her’s? As she passed by the students, she always remembered to say her “excuse me’s” or “pardon me’s” when she was trying to get through, and remembered to say her “sorry’s” when she accidentally bumped into people. Reagan was about to check the next row of lockers to find hers until- BUMP! The next thing Reagan knew, she was on the ground. Her backpack, books, and lunchbox were scattered on the ground. In front of her was another girl. She had short brown hair and sap colored eyes. Her skin was the color of a what someone would look like if they had gotten a sun tan. She also wore very expensive clothing, tall high heal like boots, and had layers and layers of foundation and make up on her face. Reagan gasped and said, “Oh geez. I’m sorry. I didn’t see you there.” She pulled the other girl into her feet and picked up all her books and makeup. “Here. These belong to you don’t they?” “Don’t you dare touch those!” said the girl, snatching the belongings out of Reagan’s hands. “Don’t you know how much money all this makeup costs?!” “...No.” Regan replied. “I-I don’t think we’ve officially met before during the orientation. I’m Reagan!” Reagan smiled and held out her hand for the other girl to shake. The girl looked at Reagan and looked at her hand and sneered in disgust. Using a pencil, the girl moved Reagan’s hand away, “Oh yes. The new girl from, what was i? Larodon? Southern France?” “That’s right! Future Heir to the throne to!” replied Reagan. “So, what’s your name?” The girl scoffed and replied, “You don’t know who I am?” Reagan said, “No not really. That’s what I was trying to ask you.” “My name is Harper. Harper Jane Cadigan Scott.” said the girl. “And these four girls make up my group. The one with the black hair is Marissa, the one with the gross looking flying pig thing on her shirt is Elle, the one who’s the brace face is Lorraine,” Reagan mouthed to Lorraine, “You’re braces look nice.” and Loraine mouthed back “Thanks.” Harper continued, “and the one in the yellow which is a really disgusting color BTW, is known as Krystal.” Reagan stared at them before saying, “Nice to meet ya.” “So, now that you know this little group here, get outta my way.” said Harper, turning up her nose. “What are you even doing anyway?” “Oh, um. I’m looking for my locker.” said Reagan, showing Harper her schedule. “It’s locker 239.” “What?! You can’t have that locker!” said Harper. “Why not? The school staff gave it to me so that means it’s mine for this year.” said Reagan. “But that’s my locker!” said Harper. “Everyone knows that locker 239 is the biggest locker in the school! Well, everyone except you Four Eyes.” “I know. That’s why they gave it to me.” said Reagan. Harper growled and was ready to strangle Reagan but Marissa stopped her and said, “Harper. We gotta go. Besides, I heard Kaiden was in our economics class.” Harper gasped in delight, “Why didn’t you say so?! Let’s go!” The other girls followed Harper down the hall, except for Loraine, who stayed behind to help Reagan find her locker and just like Harper had said, locker 239 was the biggest locker in the entire school. Reagan waisted no time to get started organizing her brand new locker. “Shame.” Reagan said to herself. “This locker looks so dull. It would be nice to spice it up a bit.” Then, Reagan had a wonderful, spectacular idea! Tomorrow before school started, she would bring in the beautiful acrylic paints that she had gotten for her birthday back in the summer and paint her locker till her her hearts desire. Reagan checked her schedule as she finished placing the new lock on the front. Reagan’s Schedule - A Day: Mon, Wed, Fri 1st Period-Art 3rd Period-US History 5th Period-Biology 7th Period-Office Aid B Day: Tues, Thurs 2nd Period-Spanish 1 4th Period-Culinary Arts 6th Period-English 2 8th Period-Algebra 2 Lunch: First Lunch Reagan was happy when she saw her first class. Art was one of her favorite things to do! She would spend hours a day just drawing and doodling in her sketchbook. It even helped her when she was stressed or upset. So this class would really help improve her art a bit more, especially when it came to drawing hands. History. Oh brother. History was super long and super boring and History wasn’t one of her strengths. Biology. Mmm, not so bad. But then Reagan remembered she didn’t really like it as much when she was homeschooled because she never got to do any labs at all. Office Aid? What was that? Spanish. Perfect! She more or less knew some words in Spanish thanks to homeschool. And one of her aunts spoke Spanish to so this would help expand her vocabulary. Culinary Arts? Wow! She loved to help the family’s personal chef in the kitchen back home and bake things on her own from time to time to! She could learn to cook and expand from making a simple PB and J sandwich. English. Interesting. Would she be learning the language English? Algebra. It was neither her weakness or her strength. But she was well advanced in math seeing how good at it she was. Reagan checked the time on her watch. 7:55AM “Uh oh.” thought Reagan, “I should already be at art class!” She didn’t wanna miss her first real class. She stuffed her schedule in her pocket, picked up her art supplies and sketchbook, and dashed down the hall to the art room. The minute Reagan stepped foot into the room, she was already greeted with large tables, pictures and paintings from years past, easels, light tables, tables with five chairs for five students to sit at, and a closet filled with tons of art supplies. But the professor was missing. Where was she...or he? Reagan dropped her things at the nearest table and walked around the room while the students chatted amongst themselves. She looked around the large room but then stopped at the closet. She saw a short figure who looked shorter than her, fumbling about where the paints were. Reagan asked in a shy tone, “U-Uh. E-Excuse me? I-I don’t mean to be a bother b-but uh. Where did the professor run off to?” The women bumped her head before turning to Reagan. She looked and dressed like a gypsy women. Beads and all. Reagan’s eyes widened as she saw her. The women hopped down from the ladder and walked up to Reagan. “You’re lookin’ right at her.” she replied. She had a thick Russian accent. “Oh. It’s uh, nice to meet you.” said Reagan. “I-I’m-“ “New student. I know.” she replied. “Davay! Davay! out out out!” She pushed Reagan out of the closet and said, “Take your seat. I don’t have all day.” Reagan said nothing and took her seat. This art professor seemed pretty rude. The women clapped her hands to get the students attention. “Dobroye UUUUtro class.” said the lady, holding the U. “Dobroye Utro Ms. Preobrazhensky.” said the rest of the class. “Welcome welcome! I would love to welcome you all to my Art class.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky. “Now, vhile I take the roll. I would like you to complete your first sketchbook assignment. Vou must draw your name and draw all de things you kiddies like. Uh, for instance uh de Fortnite game or de annoying song vith the colorful sharks or vhat ever you kiddies like now a-days. Da! Begin.” Regan opened her big, black sketchbook and got to work. She wrote her name in big bubbly letters and colored it red. Then she got to work on surrounding her name with many things she liked like. Her drawing consisted of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a lamb, a paint pallet with a paintbrush, a drawing of Iron Man, the symbol for Taurus, a stack of comic books, a steam engine train, Patch from 101 Dalmatians, and some puzzle pieces representing the fact that she has Autism. She didn’t notice that any time passed by until Ms. Preobrazhensky shouted, “Gold Girl!” Reagan jumped in her seat in surprise. Most kids snickered at her. “Come on, let me see your vork.” she barked. Reagan showed Ms. Preobrazhensky her sketchbook. Ms. Preobrazhensky stared at it for a while before she took it to her desk. Reagan sat in her seat for the longest time while the gypsy looking art teacher was staring at her sketchbook. She felt nervous and started twirling a loose strand of her hair (which she often does when she’s nervous). “REAGAN!” Ms. Preobrazhensky screeched. Regan’s eyes widened as the teacher called her. She stood up and walked to the desk. “Niet! Niet! In my office.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky, pointing a long bony finger to a small office. Reagan gulped and stepped into her office. Was she going to get in trouble on her very first day? Ms. Preobrazhensky closed the door and started.....hugging Reagan. Reagan was confused. “Vou brilliant child! Look at this!” said Ms. Preobrazhensky, showing her the assignment. “I had no idea you’s could draw so well! How long have you’s been drawing?” “..Since I was 3.” said Reagan, still twirling her hair. “I’ve never seen dis type of talent in my class before.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky. “My dear! There is not much I can teach you! You have very good talent!” “Really?” asked Reagan excitedly. “...but I wish I could draw hands better. My hands look like potatoes.” “Tell you what.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky. “How about I gives you some pointers on how to draw hands. During the lunch break. You’s can have your lunch here and then we can start.” “You mean it?” asked Reagan with a gleam in her eyes. “Of course of course!” said Ms. Preobrazhensky. “After all, talent like this does not show up everyday. Although. I am curious about de puzzle pieces you drew here. Wvat do they mean?” Reagan fumbled with her words. If she told the teacher, let alone the whole school that she had Aspergers, she’d be the laughing stock of the entire 10th grade! “U-Uh....I-I love to do puzzles.” Reagan lied. “Ahh.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky, “interesting hobby for a girl your age.” “Uh yep.” said Reagan with a nervous laugh. Ms. Preobrazhensky handed back her sketchbook. “So, I wvill see you during lunch on Wednesday?” asked Ms. Preobrazhensky. “Sure!” said Reagan, “Thank you. Thank you Ms. Preoba...uh, can I call you Ms. P?” “Of course you may.” said Ms. Preobrazhensky. “Cool. Thank you Ms. P!” said Reagan as she walked back to her seat. She sighed with relief. .... The rest of the morning went by in a blur and before Reagan knew it, it was lunchtime. She took her orange metal lunchbox and headed for the cafeteria. Reagan walked slowly as she tried to find a seat but most of the students already called dibs on each table. Then, Reagan saw Harper and her group of friends (minus Loraine) sitting at half-empty table eating and gossiping. “Harper!” said Reagan. “Harper! It’s Reagan from this morning!” Harper stopped her, “Hold it Four Eyes!” Reagan stopped dead in her tracks. “This table is for popular girls only.” said Harper. “Yeah, we don’t take in newbies!” added Marissa. “B-But I don’t have anywhere else to sit.” said Reagan. “Tough!” said Krystal. “Let me show you where the newbies sit.” said Harper. She lead Reagan to the garbage cans in the corner of the cafeteria. “B-But that’s the garbage can.” Reagan said. “Exactly. That’s where all the newbies go. Because every single newbie that comes to this school is nothing but a lowlife piece of trash!” explained Harper. “Ask the freshmen! Trust me, this seating arrangement is WAY up you’re alley.” With that, Harper walked away, leaving Reagan alone. Well, Reagan had no other choice. She sat on the floor and ate her lunch. It was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, some apple slices, a little white milk carton, some celery sticks, and a chocolate chip cookie. Loraine noticed that Reagan was sitting on the floor by herself. “You got sent to the trash to?” she asked. “Yep.” said Reagan, not paying attention. “I know how that feels.” Loraine replied. “I got sent here to. But you wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t sit with you.” Loraine sat next to Reagan. “S-So. You’re Reagan?” asked Loraine. “Uh-huh.” Reagan replied. “And you’re........Marissa?” “Close. It’s Loraine.” said Loraine. “Ohhh! Brace Face!” said Reagan. Loraine stared at her and started to eat her food. Reagan realized that she wasn’t supposed to say that. “Oh geez. U-Uh, Loraine I didn’t mean to uh-“ “No, it’s Ok. I get that a lot. Even Harper calls me Brace Face.” said Loraine reassuring her. “Then, if Harpers your friend, why does she cal you brace face?” asked Reagan. Loraine looked at Harper and then back at Reagan. “Harper’s cool and all but she’s...she’s a real jerk sometimes.” replied Loraine, “and besides, she’s never complimented on my braces before. I just got them a week ago and they hurt like crazy.” “Oh, here.” said Reagan handing her an Advil cup. “Take an Advil pill, it will help with the pain.” Loraine took a tablet and swallowed it with some milk to wash it down before handing back the Advil cup back to Reagan. “Thank you.” said Loraine. “Hey, since we’re here, wanna tell secrets? If that’s what you royalty folks like doing.” “Sure!” said Reagan. “Uh, you go first.” “OK.” said Loraine. She whispered, “I have had this weird habit of biting my nails. I still have it and nobody else knows this.” “M-My turn.” said Reagan. “The thing is that I...I............IhaveAspergersSyndrome.” “What?” asked Loraine, “You we’re speaking to fast Reagan.” “Sorry.” she replied, “I…I have Asperger’s Syndrome…its a case of mild Autism. I’ve had it since I was two and it-it effects me socially and mentally. I have some weird obsessions. I still watch Blues Clues for pete’s sake and-“ “Reagan.” said Loraine, “I’ve heard enough. But why don’t you wanna tell anyone this information?” “I-I don’t wanna tell anyone because I-I didn’t wanna get bullied again.” said Reagan. Loraine held out her pinky and said, “I won’t tell a soul that you have Autism. It’s a promise. A pinky promise.” Reagan looked at her pinky and joined hers in with Loraine’s. “Thank you.” said Reagan as she hugged Loraine. Loraine was shocked but hugged her back.

The Shadow
Like I said, this one deals with a really heavy topic, but I felt it needed to be written. Hope you like it -Dakota
Tumblr media
   I wake up as an alarm sounds. I reach out and try to shut it off, but my hand falls all the way to the floor. I try again with the same outcome. This time I look as I swing for the clock. My heart stops as my hand goes through the clock. I reach it in front of my eyes and I see my hand, it’s there. But it won’t touch anything. I jump as the clock suddenly stops with a small bang. I look over and see another hand, attached to a different body, in my bed. The person gets up and opens the curtain. I hiss away from the light.
   As I open my eyes again, I notice that all color has faded from my being, blacks and greys replacing what used to be blue and brown. The person leaves the room and as I look around, it is definitely NOT my room. Before I can try to remember anything, I get tugged out of the room. I try to stop myself, but I keep following the girl. I look at her and stop dead still. I still get dragged, only ever being 5 feet from her at most. I look at her and notice that she doesn’t have a shadow. I try to talk to her, I call out to her.
   “Hey, what am I doing here?” no reply, “Hey, can you hear me?” still no reply. I’m pulled behind her into the bathroom. Lucky for me, the space I’m allowed lets me wait outside of the curtain as she showers. Me still being the man I am, I turn as she gets out and dressed. Only when she was done did I see who I’m attached too. Riina Mitchell, the girl from my Spanish class. I never really talked to her before, and now I’m her shadow for who knows how long.
   We walk down to I think her kitchen. She quietly gets a bowl of cereal as I silently observe her. She almost gets to eat it when I see her jump and spill a little on the floor. She starts to cry and frantically tries to clean it up before the footsteps that she jumped at get closer. She gets it done and stands rim rod straight as a man enters the kitchen.
   “Good morning daddy,” she whispers.
   “Did I speak to you?” her father speaks.
   “No sir, I’m sorry,” she whimpers. Her father raises his hand and brings it down right across her face. I jump towards her, wanting to pull her back, stop him as he swings again. But I can’t. She stands and takes his hits, tears streaming down her face.
He finally stops and leaves. She still doesn’t move at all but her shoulders as she cries. She wipes her cheeks as she turns and grabs her bag before we head to the bus.
Sitting in the very back seat, she applies makeup to her reddened cheeks, sitting in silence as we ride to school.
We step off the bus and run into the school, but as we reach the door, we hit the ground. Two girls are blocking the entrance. We stand up and face them, Riina looking at the floor.
“Can I pass?” she asks them. They look to each other and one shrugs.
“Sure, but just for today,” and they let us past.
I follow her all day, learning about her. She hides in the back of the classrooms, never says a word. She’s incredibly smart, but never says anything in class. She eats lunch alone in the park across the street, but that doesn’t stop them.
Her phone buzzes all day long, she never replied until lunch, and now I have a good view of what she’s receiving.
“You ever wonder why you’re still here? Cause I do.”
“You may think we don’t see you, but we do every ugly feature.”
“Just fucking leave already!”
Many more texts like that are filling her inbox. She looks and closes her phone, putting it in her bag. I put my hand on her shoulder, she may not feel it, but I needed to do something other than just sit in the back. We run to her next class, hiding in the back once again.
The whole day goes like this, hiding, reading the messages, hiding once again. And I still can’t do anything about it. I want to help, I want her to know that she’s not alone, but all I can do is hide in the back, watching everything they do to her.
When we get back to her house, it doesn’t end. The messages keep coming, but her father is also on his way home. We stay in her room, listening to music quietly and doing her homework, but when her father's truck pulls into the driveway, she puts everything away and we run down the stairs to the kitchen again. She starts to wash dishes, her father stomping in soon after she began.
She flinches as the door slams. Then her father’s voice booms across the house.
“How was school?”
“It was ok sir, I got an A- on a test,” she replies as she keeps washing. Her father waltzing into the room and right behind Riina.
“Why was it so low?” he questions.
“It was in math class, I’m not very good at algebra sir,” she explains. A hand comes in contact with the back of her head.
“That’s what I get for having a kid with a cheerleader, no brains,” he mumbles as he leaves, “Glad I left that idiot.”
“Do not talk about mom that way!” she shouts, abandoning the dishes. Her father turns and faces her, hands finding their way to his hips.
“What did you say?” he snarls.
“Don’t. Talk. about. My. Mother. That. Way,” she repeats, copying his stance. He clenches his fists and strides across the room and hits her across her face again that day. He punches her right on her eye before he finishes.
“Get out of here, I don’t need to be reminded of my mistakes,” he glares. We retreat to her room, shutting the door softly behind us. She grabs her phone and reads more of the messages. Man do I wish I could hug her right now. She walks over to her closet and grabs out a few pages of letters, setting them on her bed before we run to the bathroom and grab some pills from her father’s prescription.
“NO, Riina don’t do this!” I scream at her, I try to stop moving once again. She stomps back to her room, dragging me with her. She locks the door behind us, striding to her bed. She lays all the letters out, puts them in a specific order, then grabs the pills.
“NO Riina, please! Don’t do this!” I scream, praying she’ll hear me. I try getting her to feel me as I touch her hands, then her bruised face, still nothing. I start to cry, but I don’t give up on trying to stop her.
She goes to her window and looks outside, throwing the pills into her mouth and swallowing them down.
“NOOO!” I scream as she falls and everything fades away.
~~~~~~~~~~
I shoot up from my bed, tears soaking my face and pillow. I jump out of bed and run to my truck. I have to get to Riina’s house.
I pull into her driveway and run into her house. Her father tries to block me from entering.
“You can’t come in here boy.”
“You shouldn’t hit your daughter, now let me in!” I scream at him as I push past. I take her steps two at a time, running to her locked bedroom door.
“No, nononono, C'mon, open, openopenopen,” I mumble as I jiggle the door handle. No success so I try to start kicking it in. Lucky for me it was a cheap door and broke after a few hard hits. Running in I stop dead. I fall to my knees and cry. I see a familiar lump on the floor. A pile of the small girl and grey sweatshirt lays by the window, bruised on her face.
Her father reaches the room and sees everything. He walks over to Riina slowly, getting down by her body. He reaches out to touch her, but retracts his hand, tears stinging his dry eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~
I return to school, red-eyed and quiet. Everyone else is acting as nothing happened, all just going about their day. I don’t speak to anyone, ignore my friends and teachers, don’t talk to my counselor either. I can’t believe that people aren’t gonna realize they drove a girl to kill herself, they act like they never knew her, or were her best friends.
I go to sleep that night with an idea. I’ll do all I can to make sure no one else ends up like Riina.
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been two weeks since I started the Riina Movement, and I actually have a lot of support from students. So far it seems like everyone in the school is being kinder to others. Just what I wanted.
~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up in another unknown room. I know what’s gonna happen now. After I’ve gone through this a few times, I know how it ends. This person was gonna kill themselves, and I can’t stop them.
I return to my own body, tired, sad, depressed. I can’t take this duty that was given to me. It’s too hard for one person. I can’t take seeing person after person take their lives before they get a chance to live them. I can’t take knowing people do this to people, drive them to think this is the final answer. What has humanity come too?
~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up in my room this morning, but not as myself. I’m a passenger today to my own self. Only a viewer. At least until tonight, when that .45 starts to look real friendly. This is what the world has become.
8.13.17 // 2:30pm //guide to school organization
this one was requested by @boglarkat-studyblr, @catharticstudying and @nevermindigotnothin, so i hope you find this useful! i've definitely tried a bunch of different organization methods over my years of schooling, so i know a fair bit about it. this post will include my current organizational system and also some other ones i've tried/thought of and their pros and cons. hopefully there's something in here for everyone! xoxo, m
ps. you do not have to be impeccably organized to be successful. studyblr kind of perpetuates this "i need to have everything planned perfectly and color coded and filed away in this super neat system". not everybody works that way and not everybody needs that in order to achieve their goals. find what works for you.
my organizational system:
1. notebooks: there are some classes i've taken in college (namely orgo 1+2) where it is super important to go to lecture and take good notes. i used a dedicated notebook for said notes for both these classes.
>>> here is where i reveal that, by a lot of standards, i'm a pretty shitty student. what i mean is, i skipped/didn't pay attention in a fair amount of my classes. i didn't really take notes in my bio or linear algebra or intro engineering classes because my professors posted powerpoints or notes or recorded lectures (or the material was very self explanatory). for these classes, i made study guides to review the material. i'd either use blank paper or whatever fun notebook i had lying around (i used a paperchase notebook for linear). if you'd like to learn more about why i chose to do things this way/my philosophy behind skipping class and prioritizing, shoot me a message or an ask!
2. legal pads. i did most of my math homework on these. i like them because they don't have binding on the side, they're easier to tear pages out of than spirals (my hw was graded) and i have way too many in my house. i also used these for random notes in classes i didn't have a dedicated notebooks for. also great for scratch work (they're a little slimmer and lighter than regular notebooks)
3. binders: so i don't really use these that much. second semester i used a 1-inch binders that didn't leave my room much. it held all of my rewritten notes/study guides for orgo (and some for multi from 1st semester).
>>> the only notes i actually "rewrite" are my orgo ones. i use my spiral notebook paper (because it is better quality than my legal pad and loose paper) and then stick the sheets in the binder. this makes it really easy to flip through and review. i might make a masterpost on how i do this (or did this, my methods for other classes are different) later in the semester, but lmk if you're interested in seeing that!
4. folders. these are what come around with me in place of binders. i usually have 1 catch all folder that holds everything. sometimes i pretend i'm more organized than that and carry another one supposedly dedicated to a subject. the one folder that's actually dedicated would be the folder i used for orgo lab, which i carried lab reports/protocols in. i also had this folder that lived in my room. it held my graded essays/papers from my two writing based class (1st semester spanish + 2nd semester writing).
5. magazine holder. (i think that's what they're called? those things that sit on your desk and hold papers?) i kept my looseleaf paper in one of these and i also filed away old exams and some study materials in here. i had exams from engineering, both math classes, orgo 1+2 as well as some engineering study guides. and some orgo practice problems? i think. this just made it easy to go back and review come midterm. holding on to these things also comes in handy if you have a friend taking the class once you've finished it and they need help.
6. bullet journal. pretty sure you guys all know what this is. my bujo was pretty simple. i had a monthly, expense tracker, and an art challenge each month. for weeklies i had a section for my assignments for the week and the next week. i also wrote down my schedule and some textbook info. pretty simple.
i think that's it for my "system"? idk not really much of a system but there you go. here are some other quick ideas (some of which i used to use).
note-taking/notebook systems (where you write things down)
1. 1 subject notebook system: have a dedicated notebook for each class.
>>> pros: everything is separate and has it's own place. you can change things out so you're not carrying everything at once
>>> cons: some classes don't need an entire notebook dedicated to them (you're just carrying dead weight). you have to make sure you have the right notebook for your class (don't grab the wrong one. i've done it. it sucks)
2. multisubject notebook system: use one 5-subject notebook for everything (this should be enough subjects for college, you'll have to adapt in hs) or 2 3-subject notebooks.
>>> pros: everything is in one place. don't have to worry if you have the right notebook. fewer number of pages/subject in case you don't need much paper
>>> cons: super heavy. if you only have one class that day, you'll still have to carry 5 classes worth of stuff. the amount of pages/subject is smaller, so if you need to take a lot of notes, you'll probably run out.
3. looseleaf paper: you write the notes on a loose sheet of paper. the end.
> where do i put it? in a binder/folder (potentially in the prongs)/expanding file
>>> pros: no binding to get in the way. you use as much paper as you need. you can rearrange the order of your notes.
>>> cons: easier to loose if you don't put away immediately. you have to carry a giant stack of paper around (which may fall out of your bag and scatter everywhere)
4. legal pad. you write on a legal pad. (maybe one per class?)
>>> pros: not as loose as looseleaf. no binding. easy tear out (compared to spiral) should you choose to organize the pages in a binder/folder.
>>> cons: can't really write on the back unless you rip the page out. hard to flip through pages if you keep them on the pad.
filing systems (where do things go)
1. one binder. put everything in one binder with dividers for each subject. you could put the notes in here or use a notebook.
>>> pros: all in one place. more secure than folder
>>> cons: heavy af. bulky af. needs hole punching. (can you tell i'm personally not a fan?)
2. multiple binders. use a 1-inch binder per class (or something like that). notes can go in or stay out.
>>> pros: way lighter/slimmer. more secure than folder.
>>> cons: gotta pick the right binder for your class. hole punching.
3. folder/multiple folders/multipocket folder/expanding file. same principles as the last two, just a folder/pocket instead of a binder. using one folder has the pros/cons of one binder, mutiple folders has the pros/cons of multiple binders. additionally:
>>> pros: slimmer than binder. no hole punching.
>>> cons: not as secure. stuff can fall out. can't flip through your materials.
surprise, surprise. i just wrote an essay. again. i hope that this was helpful in some way and, as always, don't hesitate to ask if you want to know more! xoxo, m
Mycroft Submission Form
I’ve been flirting with the idea for awhile now, so sure, why not?
Name: Amanda
Nationality: US
Age: 29
Personality Type: ISFP (or so the Internet says…)
Level of Education: HS diploma
Best Subject: English
Worst Subject: Algebra
Favorite Subject: I had a few favorites; Biology/Earth Science, English, History and Art
5 Hobbies (if applicable): Most of my pastimes are the usual things: reading, drawing and the like. I also love to write, and hand-in-hand with that I do a lot MORE reading (which I tend to refer to as “research”) trying to make what I write more believable or at the very least less nonsensical. But I do learn interesting if mostly useless tidbits here and there. I also frequently enjoy walking on nature trails or in parks in my area, particularly if they’re around water.
Favorite Genre of Music/Movies/Books: I’ll start with the easiest half of this question. My taste in books and movies is pretty much the same thing; fantasy. Futuristic, medieval, dystopian, superheroes, magic; I love it. As for music, that’s a little harder to pin down.
Last song you listened to on repeat: I actually don’t recall what song I last listened to on repeat, so instead I’ll tell you the song that’s been stuck in my head. It’s Art of War by Anberlin.
Last phrase you said to another living person: “I tried.”
How many blankets do you sleep with: No more than 3, but it has to be pretty cold before I resort to a third blanket.
7 note worthy skills: I like to cook, and I have no qualms about trying out new recipes (though I make no promises about results). I’m rather articulate and have a deep fondness of words (which I don’t use very often because most of the people I deal with day to day wouldn’t get/appreciate it). I like to sing, well enough to my own ears. I’m a good listener, empathic perhaps to a fault, and I’m good with keeping secrets.
7 noticeable sins: Honestly, I’ve been guilty of all seven at one time or another.
Allergies/impairments/illnesses: My first stint in the hospital three years ago leads me to believe I’m allergic to the antibiotic Bactrim. Apparently it makes my immune system try to kill me.
Level of Intelligence on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being dumb, 2 being below average, 3 being average, 4 being above average and 5 being genius): I’d say I’m probably average. Maybe a shade above.
Level of Fitness on a scale of 1 to 5( 1 being obese, 2 being overweight, 3 being average, 4 being fit and 5 being skinny): This one’s a 2.
Level of Attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being Anderson, 2 being below average, 3 being average, 4 being above average and 5 being Mycroft): Again, I would say average, but like most people I could be bias one way or another.
Feline, canine or both: I love how easy-going most dogs are, but I feel like it’s more rewarding when a cat likes you. Currently I have a dog and a cat.
Confidence Level on a scale from 1 to 5 (1 being nonexistent, 2 low, 3 average, 4 above average and 5 Sherlock): I’m going to say 2.5 for this one. It’s not great, but it’s not what it was. And I’m working on it.
Position in the Family (oldest, youngest, middle): I’m the oldest. My brother is 8 years younger than me and we’re pretty close.
Eye Color: I’m told they’re hazel, but closer to the blueish-green side.
Hair Color and Length: Sandy brown, cut just above my shoulders. It gets lighter in the summer time.
Height: 5'7, give or take.
Combat level on a scale 1 to 5 (1 being useless, 2 being somewhat capable, 3 being average, 4 being more than capable and 5 being expert): I’d like to think I’m a 3. Thankfully that’s never been tested.
Your normal dress: I work in an office, so it’s business-casual most of the week. I like dressing nicely, but I’m equally as happy in jeans and a T-shirt or sweatshirt.
How well you take rejection on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being temper tantrum, 2 being vindictive, 3 being average, 4 being can take it like a man, and 5 being like water off of a duck’s back): Handling rejection is another one of those things that’s a little tough to pin down. Humans are essentially pack animals, we’re wired to want to belong and be accepted. Though some of us have had more experience with it than others. That being said, I’d be between 2 and 3 on this one. I wouldn’t turn vindictive, though.
Languages known: I took American Sign Language and Spanish in school, but that of course was years ago. I did well in ASL, but was nowhere near conversational.
Cleanliness of your bathroom on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being a crime scene, 2 being messy, 3 being average, 4 being pretty clean and 5 being perfectly spotless): It’s going to have to be a 2 on this one. Definitely due for a once-over with a Magic Eraser.
How big is your circle of friends on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being nonexistent, 2 being very small, 3 being average, 4 being large, and 5 being a massive social network): I have a good number of acquaintances, but a very small circle of people I consider to be friends.
How would you rate your mental health on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being very poor, 2 being poor, 3 being average, 4 being good, and 5 being prefect): Looking back, even as recently as a year ago, I feel like I can accurately say I am a 3.
Opinions on the current Holmes family members ( Siger Holmes, Violet Holmes, Sherlock Holmes and Eurus Holmes): Eurus is easiest, so I’ll start with her. She reminds me of the exotic snakes at the zoo; fascinating to observe and study so long as there’s a layer of thick glass between us. Sherlock’s next easiest, he’s intriguing, funny (often without meaning to be) and someone whose company I dare say I’d enjoy. Siger’s pretty precious in my opinion, I imagine the two of us would get along well; and for the most part I’d say the same of Violet as long as I keep on her good side.
Please bold the following below that applies toward your submission:
Friendship
Mentorship
Relationship
Partnership
As to the question portion, I spent quite awhile reading and re-reading and pondering. I couldn’t answer them all, but I took a shot.
Question Portion:
1) If you ask me to prove it I wouldn’t be able to, but I would assume angle C is the sum of angles A and B since the vertex of all three begin in the lower left hand corner and the rays meet in the upper right hand corner (does that even make sense?)
2) I honestly have no idea how to solve that. Math has never been my strongest subject, so I tend to stick to what I know.
3) I’ve read through this one over and over and I still can’t make heads or tails of it. I fold.
4) I would say that shooting Mr. White first would be best. He never misses, while with Mr. Gray there’s the possibility that he will miss.
5) 5+5+5+5 ≠ 555
6) I’ve been puzzling over the man in the elevator, but I can’t figure out why he wouldn’t just take the elevator all the way to his floor. Unless he has claustrophobia. Though if he had claustrophobia, why would he take the elevator at all?
7) Well if the room has no door, you could simply flick all the switches one at a time until one of them turns on the light inside, then go in. If there is a door, then I’m not sure.
9) Honestly my first thought on this one is that if John and Mary live in the same city why is he mailing her a ring? They’re in love, odds are they know each other’s addresses. Wouldn’t it be simplest to meet and give it to her in person?
13) I’m going to say C.
19) Bronze and iron I think.
24) I have always seen the dress and blue and black.
Mycroft's answer:
Well, well Amanda, you seem to have filled out everything at length but I seem to have missed your current occupation on the form.  I've gathered from other questions that you work in an office of some sort but I would be curious to know what sort of business you align yourself with. I find it very telling about a person with what kind of work they choose to pursue such as people that flock to retail have a tendency toward but the color and patterns while fast food members are more sight and smell. Very fun to decipher on a dull day in the office. While you do not address all the questions I see you still put forth the effort to answer what you could with some rationalization on your end of the spectrum and I can respect that.  For any relationship whether it be romantic or platonic requires some form of communication in order to function effectively. That being said I find it very refreshing to find someone closer to my height as you will find that being over 6 foot does come with its disadvantages. Finding clothes, walking through crowds when you're trying to remain unseen, attempting to kiss someone well below my height and closer to my chest. I will say that biology has never been one of my stronger suits as opposed to Earth Sciences (since Sherlock was keen on exploring the great wilderness as a pirate and all)  but would be amendable to glossing over one of your favorite bits of the subject over coffee or pastry at any time that you feel you are available. I cannot promise this would be a quick romance but what does it matter if we enjoy our company along the way?
 Friendship: 7.91/10
Mentorship: 9.35/10
Relationship: 6.98/10
To Speak Spanish Rocket – Learning Spanish Like Crazy!
The first thing you should focus on is the way you pronounce words in Spanish. You can say the words all you like and you can be great with grammar but if you don’t know how to go from a word to the next while speaking you won’t get far. If you want to quickly get into the habit of speaking Spanish, get anything you can find written in Spanish and read it out loud. While written material is good to practice with, you can also get good practice by repeating any phrases you hear from people actually speaking Spanish. This process can show you how to use proper inflections and using words in the right order and even the way idioms are used in Spanish. This is actually a very enjoyable thing to practice once you get into the spirit of it. It can be a kind of game, or like making music.
There is a temptation we succumb to when people admit their failures to us. We tend to look at them with bewilderment, as if we have no idea what moral failure is.
Often this writer has encountered people who say they can speak a foreign language. They claim that they can count in the language. When asked how to say, for example, the number 41, a blank look comes over them, and they start to count from number one, two, etc. No, they don’t know the numbers in the foreign language.
F-1 – This is the most common type of U.S. student visa. Students make use of this visa for academic studies in the United States. This type of visa is designed for students, who want to enroll for an educational program with a college or University in the United States. It is also used to study English language at an Institute or at a foreign languages institutes to study English.
Next thing is, today world is becoming global because of internet and other easy methods of communications. Many colleges today are very popular for the wide variety of people and different cultures. Some bigger colleges are having students from the whole world and they are interested in learning some skills they can get. Spanish is the fourth most important language of the world and there is a very good chance that helps you to exchange your thoughts with the student who is sitting next to you. You can imagine that you can impress your colleague well and start conversation with them in their native language.
Now you are ready to put it all together and SPEAK! Try to do this as soon as you can and dont be afraid to make a mistake. If it is a bad mistake a native speaker will hopefully tell you. However a native speaker will not always point out your mistakes! A native speaker will not always know the grammar of their own language. (Do you know yours?). Therefore may not be able to explain your mistakes but just give you the correct answer.
Below is a simple yet surprisingly effective procedure for naming that tune when all you have are a few song snippets and some hazy memories. Your search will draw from the voluminous Usenet archives which contain one of the largest repositories of searchable song fragments on the Internet. * Write down the most unique words and phrases of whatever song fragments you can remember. Jog your memory by brainstorming on the following: Who? What? When? Where? Why?
Take your children on a lot of field trips. Get a museum and zoo pass. Join a local homeschool support group, and if possible, a homeschooling co op, where parents take turns teaching various subjects. This will give your child a chance to be with peers. A support group will sometimes offer classes, too, on subjects you may not feel qualified to teach, such as a foreign language or even Algebra.
Don’t give up when your inbox isn’t flooded with responses. Language schools rarely keep applicants’ files. If a school is not hiring at that moment, they may simply delete your e-mail. If one of their teachers has just quit, they may be desperate to hire you as quickly as possible. Never underestimate luck and timing. So be persistent. After a month, feel free to call a school to inquire about work and ask if they have received your CV/resume. After three months, feel free to e-mail your CV/resume again. Managers at schools come and go rather quickly.
As stated above, you’ll never get rich teaching English as a foreign language, and in fact, it’s pretty easy to find yourself a few hundred dollars in the red after all is said and done after a year teaching abroad. But just remember that you’re not doing it for the money. The money you lose will be the best money you can ever lose.
At 20, Miranda Cosgrove has been acting for more than half her life. But don’t confuse her with so many of the other child performers who have gone astray. You’re not likely to see Cosgrove, who most notably starred in the kid-friendly Nickelodeon series “iCarly” for six years, getting arrested or hanging out at Hollywood nightclubs.
I’ll say this up front, I totally enjoyed this film. It is visually spectacular, the sound is absolutely incredible and the action is unlike anything I’ve seen in quite some time. The only thing is, I’m not entirely sure what the point was. Sure, there are some broad themes in the film that are quite obvious, but why were we taken to so many levels within the main character’s mind? We started in reality, travel then to her fantasized version of reality and then went to a completely fabricated world that left out reality completely. But why were we taken there? I’m still trying to figure that out. Did I enjoy the journey? Yes, totally. Think of this as another take on “Inception” but without any drive or purpose.
Against a quality team like Kutztown, if you become one dimensional, it’s going to be a long afternoon. We have to find ways to get a more balanced attack. How do you do that? Well, at this point of the week, we’re still film studying and trying to figure that out. It won’t be easy, to give us the best chance to win the game, we have to have a more balanced offense between the run and the pass.
Before you can reach your kids to teach them, you must lay down a solid foundation. These principles apply to life, in general, but is pertinent to this topic.
If I homework film Stay is an adaptation from the young adult novel written by Gayle Forman. The main character, Mia, is a 17 year-old who was in a tragic car accident that took the lives of her parents. While in a coma, she watches the horrific events unfold while and begins to look back over her life. Mia needs to make the decision if she wants to live or die.
A: I was doing theatre, photo journalism, working at a local channel and making a decent earning. I found myself incorporating paramount to my words, and when I started taking pictures and filming, I realized this was what I’m most passionate about. But when you have a creative bone in your body, like writing, it’s easier to expand into other aspects of a different creative trade.
There can’t be any better place on earth to learn about film making than on the back lot of Universal Studios. You have the choice of day or sleep away within the same program.
Fed up with his life, David runs away from home. It doesn’t take him long to figure out how to make the money he needs to exist. He teleports himself into bank vaults, borrows a little cash, and teleports out with no one the wiser; or so he thinks.
Baron-Cohen -Many of the filmmakers I looked up to made classic gangster films. I wanted to make a gangster film and I’ve never made one until now. I hope it is not in the same mold as normal gangster films. It is written from a female view point. Gangs have been something that America has been built on in many ways; even the Indian tribes are gangs of a sort. Gangs have always tried to gain power, and then they become legitimate and move the country forward. I come from Britain which seems to have a stable society, but if you look far enough back you find that there was some kind of gang influence in our history. The guy with the most power or the biggest army got his way, and then eventually became the king.
The Verdict: Summer action junkies won’t find anything worth their time and money to invest in Public Enemies – but it’s a cool film nonetheless. Mann movies are inherently cool movies anyway – Public Enemies is no exception to its royal bloodline. The performances are terrific – especially Depp and Marion Cottilard. (who I never got to in The Good portion of this review – sorry Marion you were terrific) It’s a solid period film that probably has no business keeping weekend box-office company with the Transformers and Harry Potter. Personally, I can’t wait to see it again. And again. And again.
