Just checked on BabyTea and it reminded me - a couple of months I met this guy at his restaurant. It was pouring down the rain and BabyTea was asleep in the car, we got to chatting. He had a four month old daughter, and had spent every night awake with her on his chest because she would pause breathing and he’d give her a little tap on her back to start her again.
Which, all babies pause breathing for alarmingly long periods of time. They /don’t have breathing muscle memory and it is terrible/. I remember lying awake next to BabyTea listening, waiting for him to start breathing again. Your whole body hanging on that little pause. Which I suppose is parenting all over - your kid is learning something new and dangerous and you have to let them, and stop yourself from jumping in.
They WOULD start with breathing though. Talk about a trial by non-interference fire.
