Alex was in the kitchen getting dinner ready. It was spaghetti night which means twice the mess as usual nights as he dumped the first jar of spaghetti sauce into the huge pot on the stove.
“Here you go, Daddy,” Eli said, handing him the other jar of spaghetti sauce.
“Thanks, bud,” Alex smiled at Eli, his little co-chef tonight.
Eli ran off to get the noodles as Alex put the other jar of sauce in the pot and turned on the burner to simmer.
Izzie always went all out with the homemade sauce and everything, but Alex made a version of spaghetti sauce that he and Jo used to make. It was basically just, roasted ground beef, two different kinds of store-bought spaghetti sauce, and a dash of fresh garlic and hot pepper flakes. Izzie hated it, but the twins absolutely loved it and she wasn’t here to tell him what to do. So Daddy’s spaghetti sauce it was.
“Alex!” He heard his mother call out to him from the office down the hall. “There's something wrong with my video call!”
“Just a second mom,” Alex said as he put the can of sauce in the sink and wiped his hands.
“Eli hold off on the noodles and don’t do anything in the kitchen until I get back,” Alex said, taking the pack of noodles from him.
“Okay,” Eli said as he scurried off to join his sister on the carpet as she played with their tablet. It was a little pre-dinner technology time and they were completely engrossed in it and didn't even notice as Alex left the room.
He walked down the hall to the little office Helen had in the corner of the house. Ever since the pandemic started Alex had moved back to Iowa to keep an eye on his mother during the lockdown. The library had closed and Helen struggled to maintain her schedule. Having Alex there had helped as he set her up with her therapist two times a week and she was able to help the kids with their school work in place of her work at the library. It wasn’t perfect, but they made do.
Izzie wasn't with them as the two of them were fighting. Izzie was upset he wouldn't call her his girlfriend, despite their relationship and the fact that they lived and parented together. Alex tried to love her and he wanted to make it work, but he couldn't just jump all in. Izzie wanted to pick up where they left off. She wanted them to be together, so she could say she had the perfect life; a partner, and kids, and everything. However, Alex wasn't ready to fully love her like that again. Truth be told he was still in love with Jo. He needed time to let go of Jo and grieve the loss of his marriage to her.
The pandemic had put a strain on all of that and Izzie had opted to stay back in Kansas, although she called every day to talk to the kids. As Izzie continued to work through the pandemic, Alex was left alone to parent the twins when the schools closed. Before the shutdown, Alex hadn't been able to find a job and was just subbing for the Ped’s attendings at the hospital Izzie worked at. With the quarantine that had transitioned to the occasional Zoom call consult and now he was mostly just a stay-at-home dad to the twins.
“I had the email on the computer and I clicked the link, but then this little box popped up and asked for a password, but I've never used a password before?” Helen explained as she pointed to the computer set up on the desk for a video call with her doctor.
She sat back in the chair and twisted her fingers as she looked up at the clock. It was five minutes past five and he could tell she was getting upset that the call hadn't gone as planned throwing off her schedule. She was going to therapy twice a week and had an extra doctor’s video appointment every other week, on Friday evenings.
“Okay, let me see,” Alex said as he pulled up the zoom meeting on the computer. He double checked the internet settings and went back to the original email. Alex quickly read it over. It was the standard zoom email with time and place and the passcode at the bottom. Alex clicked the link and waited for it to start up.
The Zoom started up but prompted him for the password and Alex quickly input the code and the zoom meeting connection started up on the screen.
“Thank you, Alex, but you should go,” Helen urged as she put a hand on his chest and gently pushed him back.
Alex stepped away to give his mother her privacy, but then the video connected and a baby appeared on the screen. The baby couldn't have been more than six months old as the camera was angled to the floor so they could see the baby sitting up on a blanket surrounded by toys. The baby smiled as soon as the video started. They locked eyes with Helen and babbled excitedly before leaning towards her. The baby excitedly babbled, as they seemed to recognize Helen and she smiled as she looked at them.
“Hello, little one,” Helen said as she leaned forward and waved at the baby. “I’m so happy to see you, but where’s your Mommy?”
Alex stepped forward and smiled as he watched them interact. He wasn't surprised that the doctor put their computer on their coffee table and did Zoom meetings with their baby. They were in the middle of a pandemic and he had done the same with the twins when he consulted for a few Ped’s cases at the hospital in Kansas City. Then he recognized the couch behind the baby. It was the white couch that Jo had bought for him with his money that she won after the ping pong match. The room around the baby was the loft in Seattle.
“Hey, do you see Grandma?” Jo's sweet voice came through the line as she sat down on the floor next to the baby and picked them up before sitting them in her lap. “I was worried when you were late. I was just about to call you, but I couldn’t find my phone... Alex?”
Alex stood there dumbfounded as they locked eyes. Jo was just as shocked to see him as he was, but only for a moment before Jo grew angry and reached forward to end the call.
“No, Josephine, please wait, he's leaving,” Helen pleaded with her but it was too late as Jo closed the laptop and ended the call.
Helen turned around and glared at him. “I told you to go.”
“No you can't do that, you can't just tell me to leave when you've been video chatting with my ex-wife and her baby?” Alex said, he tried not to get too upset, but he couldn't help it.
Alex just stood there shocked as he thought about Jo and the baby in her lap, video chatting with his mother. This had to have been an ongoing thing as Helen had it scheduled out every other Friday for weeks. He remembered walking past the door one time and hearing baby giggles, he brushed it off as just weird feedback, but there was a baby.
It was Jo’s baby. He didn't even know how she’s had a baby. She couldn't have been pregnant when he left because the baby was around six months old and he'd only divorce her five months and twenty-one days ago. So unless she’d given birth right after he left Seattle the baby wasn’t theirs and hed certainly know if Jo was nine months pregnant before he left. The tally in his head of how long it had been since he left her was a constant reminder of the life he'd left behind.
“Just because you cut Josephine out of your life doesn't mean that I have to,” Helen said, raising her voice as she twisted her fingers. “When you left she had no one, no family, I still remember the day she called me to say that you had divorced her. Instead of hearing it from you, I heard from my daughter-in-law that my son had two kids and an ex-wife in Kansas and that he was divorcing her to be with them.”
“So what, you just took her side in everything?” Alex said, getting defensive as he crossed his arms.
“I'm not on anybody's side,” Helen insisted, getting more upset. “I let you come stay with me and, I love you, Alex I do, and I love your twins, and I love being a Grandma to them, but I love having Josephine as my daughter-in-law, too. Before your divorce, Josephine and I called each other twice a month and after you left her I continued to call her, she never stopped taking my calls, unlike how you did. It's part of my routine and I'm so gracious that she still lets me be a part of her life. Her one condition was that I couldn't tell you that we were still in contact and I respected that.”
Alex sat down in the chair across from his mom as he processed the information. He didn't know anything about Jo’s life now. Meredith wouldn't tell him anything when they talk, despite how he asked occasionally.
“I'm sorry, you're right and you have every right to keep in contact with Jo,” Alex said as Helen nodded and relaxed back into her chair. “How is she? The baby, is it hers?”
“Sort of, he’s her foster baby and she’s trying to adopt him. Josephine picked him up from the fire station after his birth parents dropped him off there and she’s been fostering him ever since. His name is Asher, he just turned six months old last week,” Helen said as she smiled and pulled out her phone, she quickly pulled up a picture of them and handed her phone to Alex.
Jo was holding Asher and they were pressed up against each other cheek to cheek. Jo had such a wide smile across her face, one that he had seen many times when she was joyously happy and it made him smile too. They had been trying for a baby before he left and it made his heartache, despite how happy he was for her.
“He’s really cute,” Alex said handing the phone back to his mother, but the image remained burned into his mind.
“Yeah he's such a sweetheart too, always babbling on about something,” Helen said as she looks down at the picture.
“Why don't you text Jo and tell her that I'm gone. I won't interrupt your video chats again, maybe she'll call back,” Alex said as he got up and went to the door.
“Thank you, Alex,” Helen said standing up and reaching to put a hand on his cheek.
Alex just nodded and left. He went back down the hall and went back to the pot of sauce, but he couldn't get his mind off the image of Jo and Asher. He looked over at the twins. They were completely engrossed in the game they were playing. It was this water game where they had to draw a path to give water to an alligator so they could take a shower. Alexis was directing Eli's hand and trying to draw the path over him as they argued over the right path for the water.
“Alexis let your brother create the path for the water this time, you can do the next one,” Alex said to them as he turned the heat on the spaghetti sauce down as it had started bubbling over while he was gone. “But just five more minutes guys and then I need your help to set the table.”
“Okay,” They quickly replied in sync, but didn't look up from their game.
It was easy for Alex to step back into the role of father for his twins and focus on the life he had in front of him, but he couldn't get Jo off his mind. Alex started the water for the pasta set before he got out a stack of four plates and set them on the counter where the kids could reach them. Then he walked back down the hall. Alex pressed his ear up against the door as he heard Jo and Helen talking while Asher babbled in the background. He heard Jo laugh at something that Asher did and he took in a breath as a knot formed in his chest.
He had regretted his decision to divorce Jo from the second he sent out the papers, but he was too much of a coward to take it back now. Alex loved Alexis and Eli with every fiber of his being and he didn't regret a second of his life with them. He just wished he could go back and tell Jo about them. He wished he would have asked her to co-parent them with him. He wished he would have done all this with her, but he didn't and he couldn't take it back now. So he just stood there and he closed his eyes as he listened to her laugh.

Little Big Secret
pairing: House/Wilson friendship
genre/warnings: light angst, fluff, Transgender themes
words: 1830
--> summary: Wilson has been hiding a something from House for years. What will his reaction be when he finds out what it is?
a/n: Wrote this while I was slightly drunk. Apparently I project on my fav characters when I'm drunk and write, so his happened. I blame the alcohol if this is actually bad and/or for every mistake. Read on AO3: here
It was beginning to overwhelm him. The feeling of lying, of deceit, growing stronger every second, not leaving him. The secret he had hold back for over 10 years finally growing too big for his conscience and making him feel like a cheat and a liar. He had been carrying it around for years and he was finally growing tired of hiding. Of lying and deceiving his best and, most likely, only friend. Of ignoring who he was and trying to hide his true identity. Hiding who he really was as a person.
Hiding was shaping up to be more exhausting every day and he wished for nothing more than be able to finally come out and tell at least his best friend if not the rest of the world loud and clear who he was and who he had always been.
Wilson sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, afterwards trying to ease the hardened muscles in his neck. He was feeling pretty maudlin for some reason. Tired of life and especially tired of hiding himself away from the only person whose opinion really mattered.
It wasn’t like he had actively hold back from telling his secret, he wasn’t ashamed of it, but there just never had been the right moment. And then he and House had been friends for so long already, it had felt weird to tell him out of the blue, so he had chosen the easy way and just told him nothing. But today for some reason he felt like that had been the wrong decision. That he should have just moved past his fear of rejection and distrust and told the other who he really was.
He wanted to tell himself, that he had decided not to tell House the truth because it was none of his business, which objectively it really wasn’t, but the truth of the matter was that he had just been scared to death of what his reaction would have been. His whole life had been full of plenty rejections and hardships when others found out, so he was never keen on telling someone about it. Always hoping against hope for the best but also fearing for the worst.
Rubbing his tired eyes, Wilson once again tired to shove his melancholy feeling away but to no avail. Today was going to be a bad feeling day, apparently, and there was nothing he could really do about that.
Trying to concentrate on the patient file in front of him, he was glad for once when his office door opened unexpectedly, and he heard limping steps walk into his office. House had been the reason for his worried thoughts, but his presence was still better than being alone with said thoughts. They would only lead to a dark path and he really wasn’t in the mood for that.
“Remember that Nurse in Radiology, who was dating that lanky accountant? Apparently lanky is now a woman,” House announced without greeting, planting himself firmly on the couch in Wilson’s office, munching on a bag of chips and not caring if crumbs fell down onto the carpet.
Wilson looked up at him, scowling and rolling his eyes. Typical for House to just barge in like that and not only start gossiping but also finding a topic that hit far too close on a day like today.
“Good for her, finding out who she is and changing her life accordingly”
House tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing, watching Wilson closely, “Interesting.”
“What pray tell is so interesting about that?” Wilson’s voice took on a tired and strained note.
He knew he was only inviting House to inspect further but somehow couldn’t bring himself to deflect or change the topic, “It’s good to see that she knows who she is and had the ability to change”
“Hmm. Nothing against that. Only normally you would have asked me how I even found out about it,” House’s voice sounded investigative, like he knew Wilson was hiding something and he didn’t yet know what. Which was true.
He felt his hand return to his neck, kneading out the tensed muscles. Suddenly House’s interruption wasn’t so welcomed anymore. This conversation was reaching territories he didn’t like.
“I suppose through your usual gossip channels. Hiding out in Coma Guy’s room with the door open and listening to the nurses chat”
House harrumphed, which told Wilson he had been right, but didn’t look like he was thrown off the idea that his friend was having a secret, “You’re still hiding something. I know it. Come on spit it out. You know I will find out about it eventually”
All the answer Wilson granted him was a heavy sigh. He knew he should just tell him. After all just minutes before he had been contemplating telling his friend. But now, actually faced with it happening, he wasn’t so sure if he really wanted to. His nerves getting the better of him again and he was fearing the reaction House would have.
“There is nothing to tell. Now I’m sure you don’t care about your own, but I have paperwork to go through,” and with that Wilson looked back down at his patient file, hoping, even though he knew it was futile, that House would take the hint and leave him alone, not inquiring any further.
He chose to ignore the inquisitive stare he felt on himself for some time, instead trying and failing to read the data in the chart in front of him.
“Where you trying to score her? You knew they were together,” House’s voice interrupted the silence that had engulfed the room.
Wilson sighed again, closed his eyes for a second but otherwise continued to ignore House. He could hear in the tone that his friend didn’t really believe what he said and only wanted to get a rise out of him. Another thing he knew fully well, was that House wouldn’t rest before he found out what he was hiding. He knew it was only a matter of time, yet he couldn’t bring himself to actually tell his friend. Thinking about all the ways it could go wrong if he did. How it could destroy the best thing he had in his life. How it could destroy this stupid, fantastic friendship with House.
“Good riddance. It would have been to early for a Mrs. Wilson number 4 anyways”
Closing his eyes once again, he took a deep breath. He should just tell him, but what if everything he feared would come true? Then again, was he ready to live with that secret forever? One way or another it would come out eventually, so why not just get it over with and tell him. At least he wouldn’t feel like he was lying or deceiving his best friend anymore.
“Or, if it’s lanky you wanted, it would have been Mr. Wilson the first once upon a time”
Wilson let his hand drop onto his desk rather hard, which made his pencil holder fall over and roll them all over his files.
“House stop. I know what you’re trying to do. There really is no need for that. I tell you what is up, so just stop with that”
The dark-haired doctor looked at him with a self-congratulating smirk, “So what’s been irking little Jimmy?”
Bracing himself for the upcoming conversation, Wilson closed his eyes for a second and then looked out of the balcony window, consciously avoiding looking at House.
“I wanted to tell you this years ago, but there just never had been a good moment for it. And somehow, I always feared your reaction. This friendship with you is the longest lasting relationship I have, and I’m scared of loosing it,” he sighed, his hand unconsciously returning to his neck, “I’m transgender. I was born with female body, but it never felt like it was mine and it really wasn’t. I am a man, no matter what my chromosomes say.”
He glanced down on his desk, fearing for his friend’s reaction. Finally, he had revealed and shared his deepest secret. Silence was filling the air and the longer it continued, the more nervous he got. His hands started to shake slightly, and his heart was beating wildly in his chest. He just wished House would finally break the uncomfortable silence and just say something. Either something scathing or accepting, he almost didn’t care anymore as long as the stifling silence got interrupted.
“So, I guess my plan of asking for kid pics when I meet your folks is out of the question now?” House finally said.
Wilson looked up at House and felt relief immediately wash through him when he saw the other’s face. After years of friendship he felt like he could read House’s facial expressions pretty well. And at the moment his face told him, that while he hadn’t expected the news, he still accepted them without question. It was everything Wilson had hoped that that moment would be, when he had imagined it in his better moments.
He gave a short but dry chuckle, “I prefer if you wouldn’t. They are rather embarrassing”
House gave him an answering smirk, “Little Jimmy been running around naked a lot then?”
“Something like that. Never liked wearing shirts as a kid,” which made House laugh slightly.
Then the light-hearted mood turned more serious.
“Explains a lot though. When did you knew?” House asked, his voice careful, not wanting to anger Wilson with inconsiderate questions.
His friend’s consideration for his feelings made him smile softly. If only more people could see this side of House, then they would understand how Wilson could be friends with House.
“When I was around 5, I knew something was wrong. Not what though. That came when I was in Middle School. A teacher of mine was quite liberal, especially for the time, and taught us about all kinds of things. Sexual orientations, gender expression and whatnot. That’s when I finally realized what was different with me. Told my parents a year later”
“Must have been hard to tell them,” House interrupted.
“Yeah. But thankfully they took it in stride. It was really awkward the first year after I came out, but when they finally accepted that that’s who I am they supported me through it. Found me a doctor who understood the situation and prescribed me hormones. From then on, I felt far more comfortable with myself. I think that out of the three of us, I was the least likely to cause other trouble and after Danny got diagnosed,” he gulped and took a short break, “they had enough stuff on their plate to panic about me being transgender”
House nodded, “Schizophrenia trumps wrong body then”
“Apparently.”
They were silent for a while, until Wilson looked at House a bit uncertain and asked quietly, “We’re alright, right?”
“Yep,” House popped the p loudly, “As long as you buy me lunch, Wonder Boy”

Neil Perry/James Wilson
TWS! // s*ucide attempt, brief mention of drugs/alcohol abuse, brief mention of a medical procedure, gay slurs
Neil was enraged with his father and after the old man stormed out of the room, he remained in the living room to talk with his mom about how he couldn't leave acting and the boy he loved behind, but his mother, too afraid of her own husband, just ushered Neil to bed. Instead of sleeping, he went up to his room, enjoyed the last few hours of the day in which he got a role in his first play, the main role, that was. He then scrambled to the bathroom, rummaging through whatever pills he could find, the water from the sink aiding them to go down his throat. Knowing fully well what he had done, he rushed to his father's office, uncovering the gun hidden in the drawer of his desk. He sat on the floor for hours on end, the gun aimed at his head, when the pills finally kicked in and he collapsed on the rough carpet, his hand falling right next to him, pistol aimed in his direction. He did it to get a new life, to forget about his first love and the adrenaline he got from being an actor; it was a new role he had to play, the role of a medicine student at Harvard. Ten years of sleepless nights, numerous studies engraved in his mind, needles, blood, gloves that would tug at his skin, screams, tears. But most importantly, it meant the years he had left until his last breath, without the Todd Anderson he so dearly cherished, without the creaking of linoleum under his boots, without the fading claps of the audience and flashing lights distancing themselves from him by crimson, velvet curtains.
He woke up with bright, white lights shining in his face, an uncomfortable gown, too tight at the waist, embracing his shivering form. The crook of both his arms hurt, his pointer finger being held stiff by some sort of white clamp. A faint, rhythmic beeping in the background, covered by the voice of his mother and a stranger's.
His eyes fluttered as he groaned and frowned, pain shooting down his spine and throughout his whole body, his words coming out rasped as he struggled to breathe properly. "Wh-where am I?" The 17-year old spoke, his lids finally fully opening, allowing him to observe his surroundings. He was in a hospital, his mom chatting up a young male nurse, his dad nowhere to be found. Upon hearing his broken voice, Mrs. Perry jumped and rushed towards the bed in which Neil was resting, worry painting over her features.
After letting him know what went down and why he was there, his mother went to fetch Mr. Perry, to let him know his son was now awake and feeling better. Neil couldn't help but smirk, as subtly as he could without his face muscles hurting; had his father been framed for his temporary death? Was he feeling too guilty to look his son in the eyes?
His questions were quickly and negatively answered, as his old man stomped in the salon, his brows furrowed and the veins on his forehead visible, just as they usually are when he gets angry. And as he expected, he heard the following:
"No son of mine is ever going to be a fag and taint the family name in such a way, you hear me?! You're going to Harvard whether you want it or not, and if I hear or see you mingling around with any boy for too long, you're out and off to military school! I will not stand around and watch you throw dirt on my name as if I didn't raise you to be the man you are today!"
Ah, yes, of course. Mrs. Perry succumbed to fear and sang like a birdie for her husband. To Neil's surprise, the words that spilled out of his father's mouth didn't leave the same pang in his heart as they used to. Sure, maybe it was because his whole body felt numb, and yet it was excruciatingly painful to move, or maybe he did become a grown man after faking his own death.
There he was. A medicine student at Harvard. Nothing but another soul to be drained, another brain to be so proudly filled with heaps of information, more or less necessary.
He was 22, half of those 10 years of agony had passed, when he started practice. He was nothing but an observer, another one of the kids who sat in the corners of checkup or surgery rooms, jotting down whatever intricate words the doctors would blabber whenever they bothered to look at the students. He was but a young boy when he met the woman who would turn out to be his first wife. She was one of the first patients he got to perform a physical on, his fingers shaking and browbone sweating as he hesitantly palped around her torso, his first case of cancer sitting right in front of him. Poor boy felt so bad after he was pushed by the supervising doctor to deliver her the devastating news, that he had invited her out, to help her feel like she had at least one person in her life who didn't treat her like a ticking clock, but rather the human she was. A 30-year-old blonde, a preschool teacher who had few years left of her life, dating a barely-legal man, aspiring doctor, who wanted nothing but to comfort her and give her a safe space for the last few years of her life. See, he didn't mean it to escalate, he just wanted to treat her to a coffee, but after a few outings, they easily fell for each other and at 24, Neil Perry was now a widowed man, sulking through the hallways of Harvard dorms. His eyes would scan some of the men who he had seen in his classes every now and then, but he would quickly shake his head, cursing himself in his mind and moving on with his life as he did until then.
Fresh out of Harvard and a helping hand for one doctor which was, back then, the best one in Oncology, Neil Perry had his wallet bursting at its seams, money flowing in bank accounts so much that he felt overwhelmed; he had nothing to spend his salaries and bonuses on. A house in a secluded area - more like a villa -, a new car, more shirts and dress pants than he could count, a new watch, a new phone - a new life. He was swimming in money and he needed someone to take care of it for him, someone to spend it on.
Before he knew it, he was having lunch dates with one of the nurses at the hospital they both worked at. Faster than he could comprehend, she was now living with him, having quit her job because "he was the man of the house, he had to support both of them financially". His father was exhilarated, his son was finally marrying someone who was fit to carry the family name further. His mom, on the other hand, was too deep into alcohol, and the antidepressants Neil previously sneaked home for her to find some relief in, and she couldn't feel anything but constant sorrow over the life she gave up for a man who was now self-absorbed.
Despite being treated like nothing but an ATM with a high-sex drive, he still found himself at the altar, fingers trembling as he held her hands and exchanged vows, promising his whole being to her will.
Except she didn't seem to take that seriously. One night, when the clock struck 12 am to be exact, young doctor Neil arrived home from his 24-hour shift to park in an empty driveway, his wife's car nowhere to be found. With his brain working on nothing but desire to save lives and watery coffee, the 27-year-old hid his car in the garage, closing it so his wife and whatever companion his mind made up wouldn't see he was already in the house. In the kitchen, he grabbed a cold bottle of beer, popped the cap open, and took a drag of one of the cigarettes he had hidden in his coat, sitting at the island where he and his partner would usually share hurried kisses as they headed to bed after his long work shifts. He should've seen it. She stopped staying awake for him, stopped calling or texting him to check if he was okay or missed her, his money now went out of his account without any permission requested beforehand. She didn't even call him pet names anymore, he was only "Neil" or "Dr. Perry". In his own house, he was being treated as he had a job there.
Another puff of smoke engulfing his lungs and the empty sound of glass on the marble counter were the only ones that greeted him as he jolted from his seat, the front door unlocking. 1 AM, read his watch. One in the morning and there he was. Tie thrown on the floor, shirt wrinkled and hastily half-unbuttoned, his sleeves above his elbows. Tipsy, intoxicated by the cigarette smoke and enraged. It summed up his current state. He was nobody's, or at least he was about to be.
As soon as his wife and one of their banker neighbors stepped in the house, the older man obscenely sucking at her lips, Neil stood up and walked towards the pair. The cigarette fell from between his slender fingers as he tugged his wedding ring off of his left hand, throwing the golden jewelry next to the cigar, both stopping at his now ex-wife's feet.
'I can't do this anymore.' he thought as he hopped in his car and drove off to a hotel close-by, not wanting to see anybody familiar for the night. The woman that he loved, or at least thought he loved, cheating on him. It clicked into place faster than it should've. With her drifting away, he now knew the reason behind it. Of course, she was too tired to wait for him from all the fooling around she did with their next-door neighbor, who only worked 9-5 and still had more money than he did. He had more free time, more free will; he was able to leave when he wanted to, nobody depended on him. Unlike Neil's situation, where he was playing the game of life and death. He had millions of lives in his hands, figuratively and literally. He was one with the numerous folders in the archive of the hospital he worked in.
The next few days were nothing but chaos, work papers over divorce papers over legal and court papers. Not only did he still have to report and procedure that he or his co-workers performed on patients for the head of the department to take note of, but he also wanted to turn his life around. Gone were the days of foolish little Neil Perry, who was being strummed like a harp by egotistical people, including his father. He now embraced the feeling of belonging to nobody but himself.
After a few painkillers for his circumcision and a quick dip in a ritual bath, he was part of the Jewish community, known under the name of James Evan Wilson.
A thirty-year-old doctor, head of the Oncology department at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. A middle-aged man, dating one of his best friend's ex-students.
Cutthroat bitch, or Amber, which was her actual name, was now all over Dr. Wilson, who had come to teach the group she was in. One glance at him was all she needed, and a couple of wine glasses later, she was what Wilson needed too.
It didn't take too long for both House and his friend to realize that the younger was, indeed, sleeping with the female version of the Head of Diagnostics. The only differences were a few body parts, hair color, one limping leg in minus, and a lot less misery.
There he was. Wilson, in all his sleep-deprived glory, after three wives (one of which left him because her yoga instructor was more "exotic", and of course House had to comfort him after the divorce, he just had to show he cares while still coming off as an asshole). James, who was now lying wide awake in bed, tossing and turning in his small apartment. Evan, who lost all his purpose, who felt like something out there didn't want him to be fulfilled. Neil, who had to give up his paradise just to escape hell, who still felt like a little boy, wandering around the world with foggy vision and a scarred heart.

Moonless Night - House MD
His entire world fell apart before him, and now the only thing he had left were the events of the past night. Although, as human beings we tend to block out anything painful, and at times, when painful enough we create new, false memories to replace them.
Tilting his head back, he closed his eyes for a moment. He knew that trying to calm himself down was useless, but he remembered how he had felt after he had pulled out the tube of lipstick from earlier and he decided to try that again. There was certainly nothing to lose from it. Pulling the small tube out of his pocket, he closely studied it as he played with it in his hands. As soon as he felt calmed, he placed it gently back into his pocket. He paused. As soon as he had looked down towards his pocket, he could see small red dots on the carpet. There seemed to be a trail of them. His eyes slowly followed them over to the wall where in front, he saw the dried puddle which instantly lead him back to the mental image of the blood dripping off the knife into the puddle below. Above it, on the wall there was a hand print that had smeared. As he carefully stared at it, he could hear the same shriek again. This time while hearing the shriek, he could see the bloodied hand desperately trying to use the wall as support.
Not knowing what else to do, House reached over and grabbed his cell phone off the table. "Wilson, you'd better get over here. I think I'm hallucinating," he said while staring at the blood stains. The most he could hear was Wilson saying that he would be right over and then he hung up.
Nine Crimes - The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Mary had thought that she had found the perfect man. There is however, no such thing as perfect, and the situation that Mary is left in is less than perfect. Rated M for a few of the chapters.
Greg stood in his hotel room. He knew that David had already left Minneapolis. There was nothing that he was completely unaware of, when it came to what was going on with the people at WJM, his main focus though, of course was Mary Richards. The last time that he had left, he knew that he would be back. Giving her space seemed like the best idea at the time. Now, he sees that nothing has changed. She was still bitter towards him. Every attempt that he had made to get back with her was turned down. Every threat he made was pushed aside. Now what? Now what could he possibly do to get his way? To get the only thing that he truly desired.
On the dresser before him, lay a picture of him and Mary together. She was behind him with her arms loosely around his neck. Both were smiling. The memories of what once was, pained him. She was the only reason that he had came back here, and now, what he considered to be his only reason for living, was turning him down. Without even thinking about it, he picked up the picture and studied it. His fingers gently stroked over the image. "I gotta do something," he mumbled to himself. Dropping the picture, he let out an exasperated sigh and looked up at himself in the mirror. Lowering his face, he kept his eyes focused on his reflection. The grin slowly stretched across his face. The ideas were flooding his head, and he liked the thought of each and every one of them. "Not now Greg, let her think she's safe first."
Jeremy Spoke - The Bobs Newhart Show
After filling in for one of his friends, Bob realizes just how much a person can repress
Jeremy finally walked back into the shed, a garter snake writhing in his hand as he closed the door behind him and walked over to the table.
Emily noticed something about his eyes, they seemed darker. It scared her. Now, she wanted to leave, but she couldn't Not with everyone else just standing there.
Jeremy held the snake up, a sinister grin pasted on his usually expressionless face as he dangled the creature over the bear trap. As slow as he could, he lowered the snake down into the trap and then took his other hand and grabbed a rock off the table. Gingerly, maybe being too cautious, he held the rock adjacent to the snake, right above the opening of the trap. Then, without warning, he dropped the rock causing the trap to cut the snake in three parts, splattering a tiny amount of blood.
Abomination - American Horror Story Asylum
Jude and Arden's dark pasts are uncovered as they both watch someone close to them suffer for their sins.
Her eyes scanned the small room, not sure what she was looking for. Perhaps something to focus on other than Arden. What she did notice was that his office seemed more barren than she remembered. The plants he had were brittle and dying, the room was messier. The doctor had stopped caring. The stress of everything must have gotten to him, eaten away at him from the inside out until he was fully consumed.
"Are you waiting for me to stop you?" Jude sharply asked, finally breaking the silence.
She remained stoic, her arms folded across her chest. All she really wanted at this point was to figure out why she was here. So far all she had done was stand here and watch as Arden sat in the center of the room on a wooden chair as he held tightly onto the gun. He sat facing his desk, making sure to continually look up to the window, out into the darkness of the night.
Castle Down - Bob’s Burgers
Bob and Linda are both doing whatever they can to hold their family together, but they can barely keep themselves together.
The darkness surrounded her, suffocating her. She didn't even make it to her bed, collapsing, her back up against the door. She pulled her knees up to her chest as a shuddering gasp was emitted. Her entire body trembled as she stared straight ahead.
Linda thickly swallowed. Her life had been one constant whirlwind for about a month now, and nothing seemed to be getting better. No one seemed to be getting any better. It was frustrating. All she wanted to do was scream, shout, throw a huge fit, but she could. Deep down she harbored this fear that if she fell apart now, she would never be able to put herself back together, and there was too much going on for her to be broken.
Her entire family needed her. That's why she did what she did, because it was needed. That didn't mean she was proud of herself. Never before had she ever felt so grimy, so disgusting. Everything about her felt tainted.
