Wheat Paste and Sigils
Tumblr media
Wheat pasting is a form of biodegradable graffiti. Wheat paste is basically homemade glue that degrades over time. Wheat pasted art can be scrubbed off things pretty easily, and does no permanent damage to objects.
I usually wheat paste art on rocks and leave them places for others to find, or put them around my property.
I'm gonna show you guys how to make some so that you can temporarily paste sigils or other art in places. Above pic are some sigils and art I made and pasted on my front porch.
You Will Need:
1 part wheat flour
4 parts water
Sugar
Pot
Jar to keep wheat paste in
Rubber spatula
Sponge (Optional but reccomended) or a paint brush
Making the Wheat Paste
Pour water into the pot, put pot on the stove and turn the heat to low (in-between 2-3). Slowly add bits of your flour, don't put it all in at once. As you add the flour, stir with your spatula consistently. Before you add more flour, make sure there are no clumps in the mixture. Keep stirring until all the flour is mixed and the mixture becomes thick in texture. Next add a few pinches of sugar to make it more sticky. Pour paste into your jar using your spatula.
Its best to use wheat paste as soon as you make it because it only lasts a couple days in the fridge. Don't make big batches unless you have a big project.
To use wheat paste, grab your art, go to the spot where you want to put it, cover your sponge or brush in wheat paste and paint the spot where you want the art, place the art on the spot, then paint a layer of wheat paste onto the art then let it dry.
If you have art that was made with a water based medium, example: something printed with an ink based printer, water color, gouache, ball point pens, water base speed ball ink, your art will smear and bleed if you paint wheat paste on it, therefore, I recommend using a sponge to blot the wheat paste on so you do not smear it.
Have fun making graffiti!
