Badass!YanLi Headcanons

Shijie Saves A-Ying

(and a thousand other lives)

Scene begins on Wen Qing looking up from her work as she hears the demon twunk shout her name.

"WHAT IS IT??" She turns to the cave as he rushes out.

What gets from his nervous ramblings is "something happened" and "I swear I didn't do anything this time" and "someone's fucking screwing with the wards!!!"

Her eyes widen in terror. "But you said–" she forces her breaths to calm down because this isn't the time for anger, "Nevermind, what's happened? I didn't hear any explosions."

"I know, right! It was that weird mushroom you'd found yesterday - the one that reacts to qi - and ugh I'm sorry I didn't include you but I'd just had this crazy idea and I got excited, and the next moment I know–" He breaks off, looking like he's seen a ghost.

She turns around to find Jiang Yanli walking through the undergrowth, Sect Leader Jiang in the undertow. She steels herself, hand on the hilt, gesturing her people to make themselves scarce. Just in case. Then she takes to eyeing the Jiangs with hostility. At least they left their disciples at the wards, so that's something.

But how the fuck did they get through the wards.

She turns to wwx to see if he's thinking along the same lines but the crazy genius is too feels-struck to think. Ugh, this is going to be tough.

The lotus lady and the emo flautist stare at each other for a moment before wwx is running to his shijie, her arms open to catch him in what must be a bone-crushing embrace. Then wwx begins to shake and Wen Qing has to turn her eyes away, the moment is too private.

Wwx can't think straight. He can't think at all - shijie is here, shijie is here and everything will be alright - he'd promised himself that he'll act all tough when jc comes and the little shit won't even suspect - but he wasn't prepared for this! Any thoughts of control and secrets and the need for pretense flees his head the moment she throws open her arms, her eyes saying, "There you are, A-Ying. You mischievous little brat."

And he's running, he's flying and he's in her arms and before he knows it he's crying but she's also crying so it's ok, why the fuck is it that easy for him to just howl into her shoulder and why the fuck does she hold him like she wants to break his ribs so she can soothe him inside out, beginning from his core? That's funny, he thinks, because if she crushed his ribs her hands would close upon empty air, haha– oh.

He hates this. He hates the whole entire world.

Gingerly, he separates from her, wiping her cheeks with his sleeve(palms dirty from his little experiment), huffing out a soft happy laugh like one does in such moments while she wipes his tears with her thumbs, smiling up at him like she's determined to set his world straight with kind smiles and warm hugs and gentle caresses alone. And she just might, lol.

"Alright then, time to whoop his stupid ass. Shijie, are you doing it or should I?" Jc looks like he's very much dying to be included in the hug but is also 100% mad at wwx. The Zidian cracks on his finger. "It's funny," he says, and wwx can tell he's going to say some mean shit, "they said you're harbouring war criminals and raising an army of fierce corpses to wipe out the gentry clans! Looks like your corpses are nothing but straw dummies building old age homes for the last couple years of these lowlives, heh."

Wwx doesn't give him the satisfaction by rolling his eyes and says instead, blatantly smiling, "Oh, you're here too. Guess it can't be helped." He bows over-the-top, "What brings you here, Sandu Shengshou?"

That's all it takes for the purple menace to rush at him. He ducks behind shijie, his favourite shield in the world. That's when jc decides that sect leaders are too cool for shit like this and straightens up, showily dusting his immaculate sleeves, rolling his eyes in I'm above you, you peasant, saying, "Ugh, you're still so childish, it's pathetic."

Wwx shrugs. He gestures for them to follow him, saying "I guess I should invite you both inside the Demon Subdue Palace."

Jc scoffs and shijie blinks at him as if checking whether all his marbles are still in place. He laughs. "Come on, it's funny! I'm the demon, and I sleep there!! Demon, Palace, Subdue." He points first at himself, then at the cave and then mimes what looks like a three-year-old sleeping.

Before jc can retort, they hear Wen Qing draw her sword. The trio turn to look and wwx's brain goes wtf, is that Lan Zhan?! And wtf is the Peacock doing here, for fucks sake!

Okay so today i learned that the take "it was morally wrong of WWX to give JC his core without his consent" exists, and I'm honestly curious to see how you feel about that 👀👀👀

Ehhh... excuse me, but.. what? Haha did you really have to hurt me like that? I was perfectly fine not knowing that such thing existed. I’ve aready reached my limit of stupidity this week lmao. Is it some anti-wwx squad?? Pls tell me, it doesn’t actually exist, bc I’ve already lost my faith in humanity as it is.

Well, my take on this is.. JC whole life was revolving around developing his core, increasing the level of his cultivation powers, becoming the clan leader and outbesting WWX.

The truth is, without the core he would literally slowly rot for the rest of his life. His cultivation skills were pretty basic (he was mad about it and was jealous of WWX getting the attention, hell, even his mom was mad about WWX being better at things than her son), but without them he’d be a big fat nothing and that would’ve killed him. WWX knew that and Wen Qing also knew that. That was the main reason she agreed to this, bc she liked WWX and knew that he couldn’t bare to lose another family member, cause he was like a brother to him. They both knew that JC life would basically end without the golden core and he would be like an empty shell, cause he simply couldn’t go on without it.

And the moment he lost it, he was so blinded, he didn’t even think about the fact how even such miracle of “returning his core” suddently appeared. He didn’t even check the if it’s possible or questioned it. I don’t think he’s stupid really. There’s no way deep down he didn’t feel that it was hella weird that somehow he was magically saved pretty easily. But he went with it anyway, bc he didn’t care about the consequences or questioned if they’d be any. Like did he think it was a magical lottery “bring your old broken iphone and we’ll exchange it for the last model”? I mean, he was so caught up in his ass, he didn’t even think for a moment that it was too damn easy and too damn lucky?? Also like WWX’s lie wasn’t even that good.

And like sorry we didn’t ask for your consent and “forced” our golden core on you, but we just couldn’t let you die. We’re morally wrong like that xD. We also didn’t have much time to babysit a vegetable, some were also grieving at this moment, but who cares, of course, the strong ones will be fine, right?

WWX really genuinely didn’t want for him to find out the truth like.. ever. So that mister could shine in his glory, meanwhile constantly shitting on him. So god forbid some fuckers say smth about him being in the wrong in this situation tbh.

Also I laughed a lot about the fact that JC really thought that he suddently became “oh so talented” out of the blue. Like dude, you were so freaking average, then you “get your core back” and you’re this powerul cultivator... 1+1=5?? I’m.. facepalm seriously.

The moment Wen Ning told JC how much of an idiot he is, was a blessing for me really, oh, the satisfaction I felt in that maoment. It might just be my favorite moment along with the Wangxian confession. Cause I was like “finally, bitch, finally”, go run around with WWX sword like an idiot now xD I’m sorry like but really, that’s how I felt, I was tired of his bs. Dude’s jealousy blinded him so much, he really would rather watch WWX being stumped on, than stand up for him. That’s such a disgrace seriously.

But I seriously think there’s a possibility that some tiny part of JC knew that this was fishy, but he just blocked it. He wanted the core back so bad, he didn’t care how honestly, if he did, he’d ask questions, but he didn’t. I’m like.. I get it, yeah, but like if someone knocked on your door and be like “here’s your 1 milllion $”, would you seriously be like “yeah, sounds legit, thanks”??

Does he not know that saying “free cheese can only be found inside a trap”? Like his pride was rightfully hurt for eternity and he will be reminded of it each time he uses it, but he 100% himself thinks that “it’s better than without the core”.

Anyways... “without consent”... I’m just... you freaking kidding, right? What else? The age difference between Lan Wangji and Mo XuanYu ‘s body is too huge? Anyone abusive maybe? WWX and LWJ are trash bc they’re too powerful and they don’t deseve to be born this way? I’m.. I’m gonna die istg

Wei Wuxian is a little confused, actually? // I LOVE your concluding lines, they're always so good! Oh dear, neither Lan Wangji nor Wei Wuxian is keeping it together very well. The conversation about Jin Guanyao not being out yet got me curious about how 'out' Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were (and Wen Ning, if I remember correctly?) before the events of Hidden Track? I kind of always default to assuming Lan Wangji is still closeted, but I like aus where he isn't. I really really like this fic

Hmm, how out are people?

Of the band, I’m not sure what Wen Qing and Jiang Cheng’s sexualities are in this verse. If they’re not straight, I think they’ve probably still been together since around when the band was getting big, so it’s never come up and people just assume. (And they might be straight! It’s not going to affect anything in the story---probably---so it’s not something I’ve spent much time thinking about. Oh, wait, I had Jiang Cheng high-five a gay joke. Means he’s probably also bi.) I don’t think I’ve specified a sexuality for Wen Ning either, as yet---you’re probably thinking of him agreeing to friend!marry Wei Wuxian when they were drunk, but I don’t think you need to be gay to get friend!married to your same-gender friend.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are both out, partly because I didn’t particularly want to complicate the issue by making myself write a coming out story. Wei Wuxian probably came out either by being unable to resist making a bi joke or by just being such an equal opportunity flirt that at some point people just started assuming. Or a combination. Lan Wangji probably came out by a) looking down his nose at a reporter when asked about what he’s looking for in a girlfriend and saying, “It is impolite to assume,” b) very awkwardly and earnestly making some kind of It Gets Better video after something bad happens in the world, or c) making a really vague comment in an interview once that made Wei Wuxian go, “wait, Lan Zhan, do you like men???” right there in front of the entire world, after which Lan Wangji had to internally facepalm and go, “.......yes.” Or a combination!

I’m not going to lie, I don’t often write closeted characters, because coming out narratives make me a little anxious! (I don’t know why, since I’ve never had any particularly negative coming out experiences---the worst ones were probably just people not believing me. Well, and the one where I accidentally came out to a room full of people because they were saying bi people were more likely to cheat, and I.....yeah.) So most characters, if it comes up at all, are already out. And that goes for anyone in this universe, generally.

Jin Guangyao is an exception to this for two reasons! First, that scene’s more fun if Wei Wuxian’s being cagey---it gives Lan Wangji a lot more ways for his imagination to run wild, which creates more jealousy. Second, well...it’s Jin Guangyao. He is so intensely image focused that I just don’t really believe he would come out, as a public figure, unless he had a very good reason. Even if it didn’t do him any harm, it also wouldn’t do him any good, so what would be the point? (As in canon, he’s probably had a fairly rocky career trajectory---why borrow trouble?)

And thank you so much for the comment about my concluding lines! I’m trying really hard to make each ficlet at least mostly a completed thought, so I try find ways to end them that aren’t just me trailing off. It’s hard! I never write chaptered or serialized anything, so this is a totally new thing for me, and I’m really glad to know it’s working for you.

Prompt #3: Pacific Rim AU

I am lowkey Pacific Rim trash and highkey jr. trio trash so I meshed them.

I’m really just taking the setting of Pacific Rim and putting MDZS characters in there. I actually have a WIP fic. Might post it on here later. 0-0

This ended up pretty long, so it’s continued under the cut.

- So, there are four main sections of the : Nie, Lan, Jiang, and Jin. They each take care of an area, so it’s a pretty big thing.

- Sizhui got adopted by Lan Wangji and his husband Wei Wuxian after the destruction of the Wen sect. The area they used to protect got overrun by a huge Kaiju attack and is very unstable.

- Sizhui and Jingyi pretty much grow up together (ft. an annoyed Lan Qiren who accidentally adopted baby Jingyi).

- Meanwhile, Jin Ling is being traumatized by Kaiju’s attacking his family’s home (see: mansion) and vows to get his revenge.

- Jiang Cheng sees the wreckage of the Jin mansion and finds baby Jin Ling & takes him in.

- Side Note: Each clan has their own way of fighting, alongside their jaegers. I had this idea of the Lan sect’s jaegers producing calming music/sounds for the Kaiju to fall asleep to. Jingyi once serenaded a Kaiju and it went better than you would think. Jaegers of the Jiang sect can go underwater for longer periods of time. Nie jaegers use a special sword and style. It ends not-so-well only half the time. & the Jin jaegers are specially designed for trapping Kaiju.

- The trio grow up and end up attending the same training program. Sizhui and Jingyi do a stimulation run and they drift. It’s great~

- Jin Ling partners up with Ouyang Zizhen because BECAUSE.

- They end up working pretty well together because JL is completely revenge driven and Ouyang is just pining over a qing the whole time. Can we blame him though?

- Jin Ling also has nightmares from watching his family’s deaths. Ouyang Zizhen has a vague idea of what happened and helps him. Because of this, JL refuses to drift with anyone but Ouyang.

- Jin Ling and Jingyi have their... bickering, but Jin Ling likes Sizhui. Thinks he’s too kind, but also way too pretty?? Ouyang once teased JL after he caught him staring at Lan Jingyi during practice. Poor boi couldn’t meet LJY’s eyes for a week after that. Someone help him, he’s too gay.

- WWX, who’s running the whole program, is just in the background trying to figure out how to matchmake without it being too obvious.

- He’s been trying sO hard but honestly he could lock them in a closet together and they’d probably still not realize.

- Ouyang Zizhen sees it and kinda nudges Jin Ling towards them but it isn’t until something BIG happens that Jin Ling actually realizes his feelings.

- That BIG thing is half the class (including Ouyang Zizhen and Lan Sizhui) going to visit the deserted Wen area for a field trip. Jingyi stays behind cause he wants to give Sizhui space (Jingyi knows about how he was found by Lan Wangji) and Jin Ling has no interest in seeing ruins of an ex-sect cause it reminds him of what happened to his family.

- bUT THEN - THEY GET ATTACKED BY KAIJU

- Since they thought it was abandoned, they only brought a couple of jaegers with them.

- And it was a Level 5 Kaiju so...

- It didn’t go so well.

- Jingyi finds out about what happens and needs to go save Sizhui because THAT’S HIS BEST FRIEND AND HE CAN’T DIE OR ELSE JINGYI WILL BE VERY, VERY SAD.

- But he kinda needs to drift with someone. And that someone happens to be Jin Ling.

- They get into an argument cause Jin Ling doesn’t wanna drift with Jingyi because he doesn’t want Jingyi to be able to look into his mind but Jingyi doesn’t give a sh*t cause SIZHUI COULD DIE.

- So he gets him to drift by guilting him into it (remember, Ouyang Zizhen is also there).

- So they drift, Jingyi learns what happened to Jin Ling’s family. But while they’re drifting, Jingyi comforts Jin Ling with his own happy memories with Sizhui and... him.

- It ends up working, and they go to fight the Kaiju.

- I’d include an epic fight scene, but it’s really just JL and LJY bickering the whole time and LJY worrying over LSZ. LSZ sees them and is like “wait i know those two” and Ouyang Zizhen is just like “ARE THEY DRIFTING?!”

- WWX is also there and is questioning his kids’ (yes, they are all his kids; no, this is not incest) sanity. LSZ and WWX are both freaking out and LSZ swears he will murder them both and WWX is just grabbing his sword cause if that Kaiju attacks his children HE WILL GO KILL IT. WITH OR WITHOUT A JAEGER.

- JL and LJY manage to hold off the Kaiju for a while. They get a message from LWJ (the famous jaeger who refused to work with anyone for a while until WWX rose from the dead) that says he’s coming and that they have to hold off the Kaiju until he arrives.

- The rest of the sects don’t know about this because they assume no one is stupid enough to go to the deserted Wen area? Right?

- Thankfully, LWJ solo runs a jaeger to where WWX is to save them.

- But JL and LJY are still alive when LWJ appears, and the two jaegers work together to get the Kaiju.

- Afterwards, JL and LJY get yelled at by WWX because “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING WERE YOU TRYING TO DIEEEEEE?!”

- LSZ won’t talk to them for a whole hour. No more than that though, cause he’s worried about them and they get crying and hugs and YAY REUNIONS.

- Oh, they still don’t get together though. WWX’s forehead hurts from the facepalms and LWJ is just silently comforting.

- Ouyang Zizhen knows that they have feelings for each other though and just has a master plan to get them together. Just, after he goes and talks to a-qing about what just happened.

- And they live obliviously [in love] ever after.
