Part 2 of the
Badass!YanLi Headcanons
also known as
Shijie Saves A-Ying
(and a thousand other lives)
Scene begins on Wen Qing looking up from her work as she hears the demon twunk shout her name.
"WHAT IS IT??" She turns to the cave as he rushes out.
What gets from his nervous ramblings is "something happened" and "I swear I didn't do anything this time" and "someone's fucking screwing with the wards!!!"
Her eyes widen in terror. "But you said–" she forces her breaths to calm down because this isn't the time for anger, "Nevermind, what's happened? I didn't hear any explosions."
"I know, right! It was that weird mushroom you'd found yesterday - the one that reacts to qi - and ugh I'm sorry I didn't include you but I'd just had this crazy idea and I got excited, and the next moment I know–" He breaks off, looking like he's seen a ghost.
She turns around to find Jiang Yanli walking through the undergrowth, Sect Leader Jiang in the undertow. She steels herself, hand on the hilt, gesturing her people to make themselves scarce. Just in case. Then she takes to eyeing the Jiangs with hostility. At least they left their disciples at the wards, so that's something.
But how the fuck did they get through the wards.
She turns to wwx to see if he's thinking along the same lines but the crazy genius is too feels-struck to think. Ugh, this is going to be tough.
The lotus lady and the emo flautist stare at each other for a moment before wwx is running to his shijie, her arms open to catch him in what must be a bone-crushing embrace. Then wwx begins to shake and Wen Qing has to turn her eyes away, the moment is too private.
Wwx can't think straight. He can't think at all - shijie is here, shijie is here and everything will be alright - he'd promised himself that he'll act all tough when jc comes and the little shit won't even suspect - but he wasn't prepared for this! Any thoughts of control and secrets and the need for pretense flees his head the moment she throws open her arms, her eyes saying, "There you are, A-Ying. You mischievous little brat."
And he's running, he's flying and he's in her arms and before he knows it he's crying but she's also crying so it's ok, why the fuck is it that easy for him to just howl into her shoulder and why the fuck does she hold him like she wants to break his ribs so she can soothe him inside out, beginning from his core? That's funny, he thinks, because if she crushed his ribs her hands would close upon empty air, haha– oh.
He hates this. He hates the whole entire world.
Gingerly, he separates from her, wiping her cheeks with his sleeve(palms dirty from his little experiment), huffing out a soft happy laugh like one does in such moments while she wipes his tears with her thumbs, smiling up at him like she's determined to set his world straight with kind smiles and warm hugs and gentle caresses alone. And she just might, lol.
"Alright then, time to whoop his stupid ass. Shijie, are you doing it or should I?" Jc looks like he's very much dying to be included in the hug but is also 100% mad at wwx. The Zidian cracks on his finger. "It's funny," he says, and wwx can tell he's going to say some mean shit, "they said you're harbouring war criminals and raising an army of fierce corpses to wipe out the gentry clans! Looks like your corpses are nothing but straw dummies building old age homes for the last couple years of these lowlives, heh."
Wwx doesn't give him the satisfaction by rolling his eyes and says instead, blatantly smiling, "Oh, you're here too. Guess it can't be helped." He bows over-the-top, "What brings you here, Sandu Shengshou?"
That's all it takes for the purple menace to rush at him. He ducks behind shijie, his favourite shield in the world. That's when jc decides that sect leaders are too cool for shit like this and straightens up, showily dusting his immaculate sleeves, rolling his eyes in I'm above you, you peasant, saying, "Ugh, you're still so childish, it's pathetic."
Wwx shrugs. He gestures for them to follow him, saying "I guess I should invite you both inside the Demon Subdue Palace."
Jc scoffs and shijie blinks at him as if checking whether all his marbles are still in place. He laughs. "Come on, it's funny! I'm the demon, and I sleep there!! Demon, Palace, Subdue." He points first at himself, then at the cave and then mimes what looks like a three-year-old sleeping.
Before jc can retort, they hear Wen Qing draw her sword. The trio turn to look and wwx's brain goes wtf, is that Lan Zhan?! And wtf is the Peacock doing here, for fucks sake!
Here's the Part 1

Hi! Any jealousy or pining frerard fics? Love your blog 😊
I don’t really do jealousy, but have some pining!
Frank/Gerard Pining
As The Ink Dries by ViciousVenin, 22k, Explicit. Frank has a hard time not hating his job. He's so close to his dream of working as a reference librarian and yet, due to a few stupid choices, he's stuck doing processing and mending. Tasked with the same mind-numbing chores day after day, Frank feels he'll die of boredom -- that is, until Gerard is hired.
Unholyverse by Bexless, 189k, Mature, Explicit. Religion! Horror! Exorcisms! Piercings! And Gerard is a priest.
You'll Always Feel This Way by wakingup, 14k, Not Rated. It's Frank's birthday and he's gonna A) get drunk B) hit on Gerard C) get laid. Yeah, it's definitely going to work out like that. (Spoiler alert: it might not be that easy)
Frankly Perfect by LadySmutterella, 24k, Explicit. Of all the things Gerard ever expected to come out of starting a band, Frank running a dating agency is maybe the last thing that would have occurred to him. Which just goes to show how much he knows.
On the Midtown Direct by mistresscurvy, 24k, Explicit. Gerard Way has a system: a system for managing his life as a city architect, a system for being a single man living in a house in Jersey he still thinks of as his grandmother's and not his own, a system for finding one of the four solo seats in each car on the train into Manhattan every morning. He likes his system. It works. His system derails when Frank Iero sits across from him on the 7:59 Midtown Direct one sunny morning in May. A love story, one train ride at a time.
Between the Wish and the Thing by ciel_vert, fleurdeliser, 24k, Explicit. Gerard has been in love with his best friend and bandmate for years. It sucks. Especially because he's convinced himself that Frank does not feel the same. But a series of events including a long overdue break from touring, gastroenterology specialists, a new puppy and a visit from a know-it-all brother and his smart-as-hell wife, make Gerard question his assumptions.
Five Times Gerard Pays For It and One Time He Doesn't by RubyTuesday5681, 23k, Explicit. This story is a cliché rentboy fic wherein Gerard (the customer) falls for Frank (the service-provider) and can’t figure out how to go from paying-for-sex to ‘dating’ or if that’s even possible. Added to the mix are Gerard’s perpetually low self-esteem, Frank’s neuroses, and both boys’ epic communication-fails. Will these two ever manage to get out of their own way long enough to see that they’re meant for each other? With a little bit of help from a meddling younger brother, they just might.
Mise En Place by coreopsis, 6k, Teen And Up Audiences. Between tours, Frank watches too much Food Network. And angsts and has epiphanies and also knits. (inspired by Frank's tweet about being pissed about not getting Food Network on his cable)
With Words I Thought I'd Never Speak by brynnmck, Frank/Gerard, Lindsey/Gerard, 11k, Explicit. It's like being with Lindsey has switched on some sort of current inside him, and when he gets up onstage it comes crackling out, lighting him up, sparking off the sweaty upturned glowing faces of all the kids out in the audience, and he couldn't shut it off if he tried. And Frankie is, well, Frankie, only turned up to eleven, somehow, flailing all over the place like a downed power line, leaving a trail of blissed-out destruction in his wake. And his face in Gerard's crotch.
A Natural Reaction to Rough-housing by Bexless, 28k, Explicit. He made it to the bathroom and stood there leaning heavily on the sink, staring at himself in the mirror. He didn’t look like a creepy sadist. But neither did Christian Bale, and that hadn’t ended well for anybody.
By the Book by mrsronweasley, 10k, Explicit. Frank Iero, the new English teacher, starts a teachers' book club. Wackiness (and dubious literary analysis) ensues.
Tie Your Monster Down by stereomer, 26k, Explicit. A spy AU
you weaseled your way into my heart (and ferreted out my feelings) by akamine_chan, 5k, Mature. You gotta watch out for those bands with umlauts.
Your Heart The Only Place That I Call Home by dear_monday, 30k, Explicit. When Frank and his crew of morally ambiguous ethernauts (pirates, as Imperial law would have it, but that's such an ugly word) fetch up on the doorstep of the fabled Sanctuary, they aren't expecting to find much - least of all a long-lost brother, a garden in a box and the key to an ancient riddle.
Gerard Way, For Skeleton Crew Fashions by desert_neon (sproutgirl), 6k, General Audiences. Fashion designer Gerard gets his big break when he's hired to create a new collection for Frank Iero's Skeleton Crew Fashions, just in time for fashion week.
Can Never Wrong this Right by theopteryx, 24k, Explicit. Written for the hc_bingo challenge, for the square of 'forced soul-bonding.' It's 1949 and Dr. Way is a professor of Archeology and Frank is his constantly exasperated (and secretly pining) assistant. When their latest trek takes them to South America to locate the fabled Blood Stone, however, they both find more than they bargained for.
What Ships Are For by mwestbelle, 22k, Explicit. A ship is safe in a harbor, but that's not what ships are for. -William Shedd. Gerard is most concerned when he finds that, while away at university, his father has taken in a new ward of his own brother's age. But upon his return home, he finds the young man to be particularly enchanting; unfortunately, according to the High Society he lives in, not only is Frank entirely too poor to be considered, but they might as well be brothers.

NDRV3 girls with a childhood friend s/o that got stuck in the killing game along with them. How would they react? I honestly think the whole thing is virtual reality just like SDR2, but that's just what I think. Who knows. Anyways I love seeing how many Danganronpa blogs there are and just reading what they have written makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. >///
Well, I’m not giving any spoilers so my lips are sealed. I like your way of thinking, though! Enjoy!
The V3 Girls With a Childhood S/O In The Killing Game!
Kaede Akamatsu
You two had been inseparable since birth, basically. Kaede had been your best friend for what felt like your entire life, like you came out of the womb knowing you’d be best friends until the end of time.
Not only was she your best friend, but she was your partner as well.
When you’d woken up, the only thing you could remember was your talent and that you loved Kaede, that you’ve loved her for your whole life. It doesn’t need to be said but, she was the only person here that you trusted.
Immediately, as soon as you found one another, you stuck by each other’s side. One of you was never seen without the other.
When Monokuma announced the beginning of the Killing Game, you felt your heart sink into your stomach. Just based on Kaede’s expression, she was feeling the same thing. Utter dread and defeat.
You two acted like each other’s bodyguard. She took leadership immediately, and you acted like her co-leader. You two ran that place together and did your best to protect the group. Most of all, you wanted to protect your partner more than anything.
Maki Harukawa
Knowing Maki, she was a very cold and distant person. She distanced herself from most people.
When you first became friends with her, it took months, even years, for her to finally fully open up to you. Neither of you had any feelings for the other until you’d matured, but since then, no one could part you.
You are the only person that she softens up around, and the only person that she lets in. As soon as the Killing Game was initiated, you clung to her.
Maki knew she had to be strong for you, and she kept her same solemn act. Inside, she was hurting, but she couldn’t show you that. The one thing that kept her going was telling herself that she needed to be strong for you.
She acted as if she’d been unmoved, unprovoked. Throughout the entire Killing Game, she was your shoulder to cry on and the thing that comforted you the most. Even in the class trials, she made sure to hold your hand.
Never once did she let you feel alone or terrified throughout the process, no matter how scary it got.
Himiko Yumeno
Himiko and your friendship felt like it was destined to be. When you two started dating, it felt even more like fate.
Little did she know, you’d had feelings for her for years. Little did you know, she felt the same way.
Both of you were a little oblivious to one another, but once you were shoved into this situation, you practically cradled one another.
You hid your relationship, fearing that it would be easy for someone to kill one of you and pin it on the other, or take out two birds in one stone. Himiko did the best to keep up with the class trials and the killings, but you often had to keep her up to date and motivated.
You were both so tired. You were tired of this nonsense and the ruthless killings. Quickly, you both began to lose hope.
Despite this, Himiko still wanted to make you happy. She’d put on little magic shows for you personally, or tried to teach you tricks. She always made jokes and laughed, even when she didn’t want to.
Even if it was just a small smile, any time you showed the smallest sliver of happiness, she felt like her mission was complete.
Tenko Chabashira
Everyone knew about your relationship, and you made it very obvious. You two had been joined at the hip since you were kids, and you were each other’s first relationship. With that said, you two were the only relationship you’d ever been in, so it was natural that you were protective over each other.
It’s almost like you didn’t know how to function alone. Wherever one of you went, the other was never too far behind.
Tenko never let any of her Aikido masters or lessons get in the way, and always made time for you. When the Killing Game was announced, she became your watchful protector.
She put her martial artist abilities to good use. This meant watching you like a hawk and butting into everything you did, but you understood why. She was only looking out for you because she loved you.
She also developed a habit of threatening anyone who got close to you.
Eventually, everyone abandoned you guys and avoided you, but is that really a bad thing in a situation like this?
It didn’t matter, because as long as you were alive, and she was too, you were both happy.
Miu Iruma
You’d loved watching Iruma grow into a success story. Every step of the way for both of your talents, you were always there, and so was she.
Of course, being put in the Killing Game together was purposeful. There was nothing more despair inducing than two lovers being put in this sick game together.
What made it even worse was the fact that you grew up together.
There was no way in hell that Iruma was going to allow this to happen, though. She wouldn’t let the game get the best of you, and she wouldn’t let whoever was in charge to win. You both knew that they probably wanted one of you to die just so the other would spiral into insanity.
She wouldn’t let that happen. Not on her watch. Her loud mouth warded people off, and she used it as a defense mechanism to prevent protential killers from targetting you. Honestly, she didn’t care if she died.
She only wanted you to stay alive, and she made this very clear. Once, after you woke up from a nightmare, she told you, “I’d give my life to make sure you’re safe, you know.”
Just like she did for you, though, you wouldn’t let that happen to her. Not on your watch.
Angie Yonaga
As much as you loved Angie, she was a little bit of an airhead.
She always was, though. It was part of her charm. You’d always found it to be adorable, even when you were both little.
She didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation when the Killing Game was first announced. She seemed to drift off into her own little world sometimes, and when you explained it to her later, she went into a state of denial.
She went on and on about how God would protect you both, and how much she loved you. Her personality was always cute, except for when she couldn’t grasp what was happening. You still loved her anyway.
Though, Angie noticed you were sad. Her senses were sharp and she could alwys detect when something was bothering you. Because of this, she tried her hardest to lift your spirits. She even went so far as to pray every night before she went to bed for the Killing Game to end and for you to be kept safe.
When you were down, she’d surprise you with random doodles. Sometimes they were of you, or of both of you, or your classmates. Some were of your family, or the place where you grew up, your childhood home, pets, and friends. Sometimes it was the place where you had your first date, or where you started dating.
She’d slip them underneath your door in the morning so you’d have them when you woke up.
Kirumi Tojo
One thing that you always loved about Kirumi was how she was able to handle things. No matter what type of bad situation you two were in, she could calm you down and take charge. She was able to do this ever since you were kids.
After Monokuma made the first announcement, your eyes shot directly to your lover. She was standing still and relaxed, not laid back, but unfazed as well.
You had no idea what was going on in her head.
You’d always been the more emotional out of you two. So, she noted this, and when you were able to be alone, she pulled you tight and calmed you. There was the running joke in your relationship that she was like the mom out of you two, and that was very obvious in this prison academy.
Throughout everything that happened, she took care of you. She made sure you weren’t sick or hurt, and always looked after you. She’d get jealous whenever someone talked to you, and watch them coldly until they parted ways.
Even when you slept, she stayed by your side, awake and alert, to make sure no one broke in and killed you. The last thing she wanted was for you to become a victim yourself.
Tsumugi Shirogane
It felt somewhat like a miracle when you both attended Hope’s Peak. You’d been friends since what felt like the start of your lives, so being able to become successful together was a dream come true.
All of those dreams were crushed when the Killing Game came into place.
As much as you loved one another, you were afraid that your relationship would get you targetted. Shirogane was very aware of this.
At first, she seemed okay. She tried to think of ways to escape together, and even thought about making a costume to disguise yourself in. With a laugh, you shook your head, insisting that that would never work.
You knew she had a good heart. As days rolled by, she started to lose it. Slowly, she went crazier and crazier, and you were afraid she’d slipped too far away to ever get her back.
During class trials, you comforted her and tried to remain calm. If you freaked out, she would as well, so you had to pull your own weight and support both of you alone.

Amy’s note: I’ve chosen to respond to your comments in-text; my commentary is in bold. It’s just easier to keep track of that way. Plus I added a read more for obvious reasons! ;D
Alright. I’m going to start with your post regarding Daisy’s “you and Fitz belong together” to Jemma.
I honestly can’t even consider it a thing Daisy canonically told Jemma because her overall characterization is far too good for this sort of thing. I don’t think this is something S4 Daisy would tell Jemma. It’s just a joke, another instance of bad and inconsistent writing, right up there with Jemma’s “I can’t think without Fitz.” Three and a half seasons of Jemma finding herself in much direr, more desperate and far more apocalyptic situations – where she’s had her short break-downs/freak-outs to relieve some of the tension, then went right back to work using her genius brain to provide solutions – all of that cast aside so the writers can cater to their obsession with FS. Jemma’s break-down here wasn’t consistent with her previous characterization, and to try and pin it on the trauma of what had just happened with the Fitz-bot would be a form of retconning. *sigh*
I both agree and disagree, nonnie! I liked that Jemma had a mini-breakdown, because she has been through a lot over the last few years and that piles up. Plus, as dire as things have been for her...killing one’s own boyfriend (regardless of the fact that it’s a robot version) is pretty traumatic. So I don’t think we can really dismiss this situation as “she’s been through worse”, especially considering that it’s not just that she killed LMD Fitz, but also he attacked her. That’s gonna (or should, if not for the writers’ dislike of consequences in fs-land) leave some scars.
So I liked that she had a momentary breakdown and had trouble thinking and gave up hope. Hope hurts, Jemma knows that more than anyone, and while she’s chosen before to hold on to it and find it in bad places, well...things are looking really bad there.
That said, I would’ve liked it better if she’d just stuck to “I can’t think” and left Fitz out of it. If it’d been a breakdown about her and not a breakdown about fs, it would’ve been much better. And less jarring.
And this thing where we find two women amidst a crisis having an exchanging and most of it focusing on the one’s male love interest – all the while these women have so many traumatic and otherwise experiences in common that they could talk about – is The Flash’s Iris and Caitlin all over again. But it’s even more inexcusable and unforgivable here because it’s out of character for both Daisy and Jemma in this situation and they have they kind of long and rich and complex history together and Caitlin and Iris don’t. And on this note, nyxelestia reblogged your post and made a truly excellent and well-though addition about AOS and the treatment of Daisy/Jemma. (Oh, I’m getting angry.)
Actually, I think the saddest part is that the exchange didn’t mostly focus on Fitz. They made a plan and Jemma referenced Daisy’s need to atone and said she couldn’t lose her and they argued about what to do and so on and so forth, and then Daisy dropped that destiny crap in out of nowhere and that’s what we’re remembering. Without it, it was a really great scene. Minus the aforementioned “I can’t think without Fitz” stuff.
Anyway. Re: Brett and Ward’s return, Jed Whedon said that they wanted to bring Brett and Ward back without negating what they’ve already done with the character, and that sounds to me a lot like Brett/Ward is only going to be a temporary Framework thing – but hey, of course dream on! (Not going to lie here; this is me crushing your Ward hopes in a sort of, kind of, maybe revenge for making me do all those calculations and consider the dates and get my hopes crushed that November 8 isn’t related to F.Z.Z.T and FS. Although I’m honestly grounding my own excitement too because I also want Brett and Ward back so badly.) By the way, “I have MISSED HIS FACE and I want him to stay FOREVER” is precisely what I’m feeling about Brett and Ward’s absence. You’ve put it into words!
XD I admit that I am deserving of having my hopes crushed. But I will live in hope anyway because I like this show better when Brett’s on it. (Not to say I haven’t been enjoying s4 thus far!! I’ve actually really loved it! I just would’ve loved it even more with added Brett.)
About Framework!fic: it should definitely be the new rock!fic. That was my own immediate thought once the episode ended. The two cliffhangers are so much similar in nature, in all the possibilities they open up, that it only makes sense. So get on that! You only have, like, a month or so (…she says as if she wouldn’t read a Framework!fic a whole decade from now). Daaaazzle me as you always do! (Side note: this is just an expression of my pure and unbridled excitement over Framework!fic. No one is in no way ever to feel rushed or pressured to write anything.) Also, please never stop being a #terrible and predictable raccoon. Your #terrible and predictable raccoon…iness gives me life. This is the kind of #terrible-and-predictable-raccoon-produced content I signed up for. :3
<3 <3 <3 Thanks, nonnie!! That’s so lovely to hear! :D
And finally, onto the Framework theories!
I was personally never worried that Jemma would die because she appears to be dead in the Framework, and for a number of reasons. Firstly, there’s Elizabeth’s status as a core cast member and one half of FS. I think that if she were to be killed off, we’d strongly suspect it slash feel it coming, like with Brett. And we know how much the writers love FS. One of them dying is, I think, pretty much the only kind of drama they would not create with those two. Then there’s Jemma’s “but dying in there will definitely kill you” to Daisy. Maybe it was just me but the minute we saw Jemma’s grave in the Framework and we were thus “told” that Jemma is dead in the reality of the Framework, my brain immediately went down the path that said Jemma was dead in the Framework before her consciousness was uploaded to it, and that what she’d told Daisy about dying in the Framework resulting in death in the actual reality, only pertained to people who were uploaded in the Framework, no the made-up replicas that existed in it (e.g. Mack’s daughter, Coulson’s students, perhaps Ward etc.). So unless a time jump happened (highly unlikely considering how the Framework sequence was presented) where Jemma’s uploaded consciousness died inside the Framework, the supposedly dead Jemma is merely her replica.
See, I guess everyone else saw it coming, but Ward’s death came out of nowhere for me---and while I knew they’d kill off Hive (because aos has something against multi-season arcs, even when it means wasting amazing villains), I honestly thought they’d find some way of keeping Brett around. Maybe it was denial, I don’t know; point is, Brett being gone for good came TOTALLY out of left field for me. It left scars. So I was absolutely worried that they’d do the same with Liz. XD
Plus, I sadly don’t share your assurance that they wouldn’t kill one of fs for drama. They have a clear preference for Fitz and imagine how many episodes of him blaming himself and missing her and angsting and angsting and angsting they could squeeze out of Jemma’s death? Oh, not to mention everyone else’s lives revolving around him while never addressing that they might mourn Jemma in her own right. The writers love that stuff.
Now, re: a potential resurrection if she’s truly dead and buried there, I honestly can’t tell if the writers would go as far as to pull a Buffy or Dean with Jemma. Buffy is Joss Whedon’s show. And I think her middle name’s Anne, like Jemma’s? And her first name is Elizabeth? Also, Dean is named after his grandmother, Deanna. And he hooked up with that angle turned human turned angel again, Anna Milton, a few episodes into S4 i.e. his resurrection season, and all that about the first thing Anna heard on the “angel radio” was “Dean Winchester is saved.” (Maaaan, it’s truly dark down here in this hole. How do rabbits see? Do they have night vision? :3)
Re: the November 8 and deliberately hidden year of Jemma’s date of death, JD’s red herring theory is likely and it gives me hope and I love it. Again, I wouldn’t put it past the writers to have made the calculations necessary to connect it to F.Z.Z.T. and make it another FS-related thing instead of Let. Jemma. Have. Her. Own. Non. Fitz-related. Storyline. But there are other things to consider here before we talk about old episodes and how the date might connect to them.
First of all, we have no idea if Jemma really is dead. (Side note: we’re always talking about the Framework replica of Jemma. We’re assuming the gravestone is there at least a whole moment before our Jemma is successfully uploaded or whatever else on Earth happens.) Jemma could have faked her death for one reason or another. Or some people have theorized that the gravestone is actually the rendezvous point for Daisy and Jemma i.e. the backdoor that Jemma programmed in the Framework so she and Daisy can get out of there once their mission is complete.
Ooooooooooo, I hadn’t heard the theory that the gravestone was the backdoor! I like that one. Faking one’s death is always a classic, so I’ve loved that one since I heard it, too. (Spoiler alert: I actually have a little gifset re: that possibility scheduled for tomorrow.)
Another theory I read is that Framework Jemma is indeed dead, and that the real Jemma will simply not be uploaded and wake up to coordinate the rescue of the others with Elena from wherever Radcliffe and Aida are keeping them. I find this one highly unlikely if I’ve being honest – not dramatic enough, especially considering all the other far more spectacularly dramatic possibilities.
But in the end, before we can really work on any of the individual characters inside the Framework, we have to figure out the overall reality of the Framework. Coulson being a teacher and teaching children to fear Inhumans, May ascending in the elevator at a Triskelion with the HYDRA logo plastered on its side, Fitz as a – theorized – Tony-Stark-esque version of himself… None of that means anything unless we know the details – indeed, the World History of Framework!Earth. Is HYDRA the same evil organization that they are in reality? Certainly, the logo remains the same stupid, menacing, evil-looking octopus. But that could be for the viewers’ benefit or some other practical reason. And then, building on that, did S.H.I.E.L.D. fall? When did it fall? When did the uprising happen? Did S.H.I.E.L.D. ever exist at all? Did Captain America? Were there any World Wars at all? Is it a Nazi dystopia? The Inhumans clearly happened. But how did they happen? And is Daisy even one of them in the Framework? And so on and so forth.
My own personal theory for why May’s HYDRA: she saved that little girl in Bahrain, which we saw. So say the little girl then used her power to get May under her control....and then Hive came back and swayed the little girl, thereby getting indirect control of May. Now Hive is ruling HYDRA, Coulson fears Inhumans because they’re all swayed and doing Hive’s dirty work, and so on.
(I will freely admit that 50-60% of this theory is just grounded in me wanting Hive back. Getting Ward is amazing enough, but I’m greedy.)
Anyway, really there are way too many possibilities. We can’t even begin to guess what happened and what didn’t.
Except kind of we can, because the idea was each person plugged into the framework had a single regret changed. So anything that happened before the oldest of them (Coulson or May?) was born in the real world probably happened there too. There would need to be some kind of consistency between the worlds, otherwise the circumstances that created their regrets might never have happened, thereby denying Aida the chance to fix them, right?
So probably the World Wars happened, probably Cap existed, probably HYDRA was evil. Whether Cap’s still around, HYDRA’s still evil, etc....that’s harder to say.
Assuming we answer the above, we can work on individuals. “We are being called in,” as seen on Daisy’s phone, is a pretty good indicator of what she and Ward might be doing for a living. Could be misdirection. If it’s not, do they work for HYDRA? And again, if we don’t know what kind of organization HYDRA is and what the form of government is in general, we can’t speculate on May and her working at HYDRA – maybe even heading it.
And then we also have to decide whether Aida was immediately alerted when Daisy and Jemma uploaded themselves into the Framework, and if she made any adjustments – and to what ends. Did Aida kill Framework Jemma on purpose, to stop the real Jemma? Did she put Ward in there instead of Lincoln to do the same to Daisy? Because I could buy that some part of Daisy might have thought about Ward might have turned out like if he hadn’t been found by Garrett – if he had been found by Coulson or some other good, loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Or if his family had never been abusive. So, a good Ward could have been her boyfriend of choice in the Framework, but only if Lincoln had never existed in reality. I sincerely think Daisy’s true desire is Lincoln, not Ward. And not just because she called his name and thought she would find him in her and Ward’s bed. Lincoln just makes sense, emotionally and mentally.
Re: Daisy’s boyfriend of choice, it’s been pointed out that Ward makes sense as her boyfriend in the framework because of the lack of choice. Aida mentioned in the episode that she had to keep resetting the framework when they added someone new; if Daisy had been caught and plugged in the way the others were, Aida would have adjusted things to address what ever Great Regret she thought Daisy needed fixed. But because Daisy wasn’t planned for, she just got slotted into the life her double was living as a consequence of all those other large changes. Whatever rippled out from the others’ regrets being fixed led to Daisy being with Ward; her own choice had nothing to do with it.
Because I agree, she absolutely would’ve chosen Lincoln.
So, to circle back to an earlier point, making a connection between Jemma’s date of death as seen on her gravestone and one of the old episodes is a very messy, all-over-the-place thing, because it would require this and that and the other for the circumstances that led to F.Z.Z.T. to have happened in the reality of the Framework as well.
See, as much as I like all the theories that have Jemma not dying in FZZT...I think you’re giving the writers a liiiiiiiiiittle too much credit there. I don’t know that they’d actually consider all the possible ripple effect and technicalities, not when they have the opportunity to turn it into a “I’d be dead without you!!” shipper moment.
Alright, I’m done. That’s about all I can remember that I wanted to say. Thanks, again, terribly, for letting me send this to you this way. It made the text much easier and less stressful to produce and handle (I absolutely cannot guarantee the absence of all sorts of mistakes). You’re an angel. And you can also edit it however you want, you know. Go wild! Write comments in between if you want. Delete stuff. Add jokes.
You’re welcome, nonnie! <3
P.S. Yes, I have indeed made the submission essentially anonymous. In the words of Steve Rogers: “Internet. So helpful.” Especially when you suffer from crippling shyness. Which I hate. Because it makes my life unnecessarily difficult and impossible.
I totally feel you, nonnie. I have horrible social anxiety and 99% of the messages I send to non-mutual blogs (and, honestly, even them sometimes) are sent on anon. I don’t blame you at all!
Thanks again so much. ❤ ❤ ❤
And also, yay for the Framework!fic you’re making progress on!
My excuse for posting this at 1AM: I finished and posted the fic! Yay?

'Agents of SHIELD' Hot Potato Soup explores more LMD's
A lot has happened lately in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and a lot more has happened in the latest 12th episode this season entitled Hot Potato Soup. Fans get to see Patton Oswalt again in several roles as agents Koenig. It’s a good episode as it propels the series further along its course. Soup is a good way to describe it, though. Mandatory spoiler alert to those who haven’t seen the episode yet.
So we begin with the Koenigs, Sam and Billy having fun and riding hoverboards while quoting Star Wars, Star Trek and Back to the Future inside an arcade. They are pretty much into pop culture as Patton Oswalt is pretty much a pop culture personality. The agents get attacked by a group of Russian thugs, and they end up kidnapping Billy. It turns out that Agent Coulson entrusted Billy with the Darkhold. We’ve speculated before that Coulson hopefully gave the Darkhold back to Johnny Blaze or even to Doctor Strange. Nice to see the Koenigs back, though. Simmons did miss Sam when she handed Daisy her official lanyard.
Billy ends up in a submarine with a tied-up Radcliffe who claims that he was double-crossed by Senator Nadeer. Last we saw Radcliffe, he went to Nadeer to seek protection after AIDA’s attack on SHIELD headquarters. To get that protection, Radclife needed to meet the mysterious Superior. We finally get to meet him in this episode which unfortunately turns out to be an underwhelming experience.
The Superior is a wealthy influential Russian named Anton Ivanov. He turns out to be a normal human. Psychopathic and undoubtedly skilled, with a hatred for Inhumans like Senator Nadeer. With a name like Superior, we speculated that he could be another enhanced human or a Marvel supervillain we’ve yet to see in live action. But he did enlighten us on the significance of an onion when drinking vodka. Ought to try that sometime. We’re stuck with Ivanov who wants to torture Billy for the Darkhold information. Radcliffe, who still has some good in him, or he just doesn’t have a taste for violence, ends the charade and unties himself revealing his true allegiance. He then sets out to do get into Billy’s head the way he got May’s memories.
Coulson quickly gets wind of what happened and picks up Sam. They get working on tracking Billy’s whereabouts through the identity of his attackers. Sam meanwhile is geeking out at Daisy or Quake the way Coulson used to with Captain America. Quake has become quite popular on the internet while being a fugitive more so after being turned a hero by Director Mace. SHIELD pieces things together tracing Billy’s attackers to Ivanov. It also turns out that Ivanov’s men were also involved in the attempted assassination of the Russian Prime Minister which forced Hunter and Bobbi off the team.
Meanwhile, to get the location of Radcliffe, Fitz revives the Radcliffe LMD which he shot in the previous episode. The LMD, however, contains some code safeguards to prevent Fitz from hacking into the LMD. The LMD also tries to confuse Fitz with stories of betrayal and reveals that he knew Fitz’s father. Unable to break the LMD’s code, Fitz ends up struggling with his feelings of inadequacy after being belittled by his father, being betrayed by Ward and now by Radcliffe. Mack here doesn’t have much to do except display hatred for ‘the machines’ the way he did in the previous episode often threatening to destroy the Radcliffe LMD.
Initially, Sam hides the fact that he knew what Billy’s assignment was and later reveals that he and the other Koenigs played hot potato with the Darkhold passing it around to ensure the location is secure. Coulson, LMayD and Daisy then go out to fetch the other Koenigs, Thurston and LT. Coulson and LMayD have a short intimate moment before fetching the Koenigs. LT is actually a sister, and unlike the other Koenigs, Thurston is a stand-up comedian and conspiracy theorist. Meanwhile, Radcliffe discovers that Billy passed the Darkhold to a lookalike brother or replica. He continues probing Billy’s memories though and gets information about a top-secret place the Koenigs call The Labyrinth where they make stuff disappear. Anton doubts the information and insists on torturing Billy, but Radcliffe would have none of it and sets AIDA against Anton’s men revealing her true nature.
Fitz meanwhile makes a breakthrough thanks to a heart-to-heart talk with Simmons and proceeds to open up Radcliffe LMD’s head revealing a quantum brain. While not getting any info on the real Radcliffe’s whereabouts, the LMD reveals how quantum brains work and how original brains were mapped to them, leading Simmons to deduce that Radcliffe mapped May’s brain. Therefore…
Coulson’s team and the Koenigs reach the labyrinth to recover the Darkhold. LT alerts everyone that Anton’s men are approaching. Sam passes the book to LMayD which then triggers her programming and pulls a gun on Coulson. Coulson then realizes that May was an LMD. Before LMayD can harm Coulson, Quake shows up after a call from Simmons and disables LMayD. Anton’s men arrive and exchange Billy for the Darkhold. Coulson throws the book to the men and grabs Billy but before the men can get the book, Quake moves the book away, and a shootout ensues. Billy runs off with the book but unfortunately finds the disabled LMayD but is unaware of her nature. LMayD knocks him out and gets the book. Radcliffe arrives to get the book but leaves LMayD stating her usefulness has ended.
The show ends with the Darkhold in Radcliffe’s hands, and fans get to find out that there was already an initial LMD program involving the Koenigs. Their true nature however as real siblings or clones is left hanging. The team resolves to hunt down Radcliffe and Ivanov and to search for the real May. They destroy the first AIDA and the Radcliffe LMD but not LMayD in order to use her to find the real May. We then find out that Ivanov wants something more than the destruction of the Inhumans. He blames Coulson for the Chitauri, the Kree and the Inhumans appearing due to his sporadic appearances in Phase 1 of the MCU and the events leading to the Terrigen spread. Radcliffe agrees to help in Coulson’s destruction.
Again, the show is quite good but not as action-packed as the previous ones. It serves more as a set-up for future episodes giving us several reveals including the identity of The Superior, Radcliffe’s history with Fitz’s father (which could be used later) and finally the reveal of LMayD’s true nature. The toned-down action, the underwhelming Superior are what also tones down this episode. Patton Oswalt as always did a great job acting as several characters. The number of Koenigs involved in this episode kind of turned it into hot potato soup. The soup’s not bad.
An interesting sidenote that neither Joss Whedon nor Zak Penn would have been able to foresee was that Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD would wind up pointing out a slight conflict in 2012’s The Avengers movie. Tony Stark makes an offhand comment to Agent Phil Coulson about reaching the life model decoy of Tony Stark on a phone call.
Tony Stark wouldn’t have known about LMD’s back then because Holden Radcliffe hadn’t even developed them yet. As many fans will probably point out, Patton Oswalt’s character triplet  (Agents Sam, Eric and Billy Koenig) were all working on the LMD project at SHIELD before Aida kicked in for Radcliffe. At least, the MCU is caring enough to deal with these issues since they know we fans will spot them quickly.
