get beanie babied. Laika and Mars are both based on the classic bean bag pattern while Yue is based on Carrot the rabbit, which I think has a unique pattern? Menya isn't a TY brand toy at all and is instead one of those tiny Whimzy plushies that has velcro so you can wrap them around your finger. Road Boy is a beanie boo with big ass sparkly eyes because i thought it was funny. Also Mars has one of those little plastic star beads on their tail because I didn't know how to make the star look normal in plush form. And it's the type of thing I would have done to a beanie baby. Also there's a little clover on Menya's butt because Whimzy plushies had a little embroidered diamond on their butts

I find it fitting the first webkinz i post should be the first webkinz i ever got! This is Stripepinkwhiskers the striped alley cat and i've had her for about 14 years now (oh man do i feel old) but i remember getting her like it was yesterday

It was my grandma and cousins who introduced me to webkinz (they had already been playing for awhile at that point). While we were visiting my grandma pulled out a handful of webkinz saying we each could pick whichever one we wanted. I immediately went for the alley cat and they spent the rest of the afternoon showing me webkinz world. It's still one of my fondest childhood memories

the reason for her, admittedly, strange name was very straightforward for me; Stripe because she had stripes, pink because of her pink nose, and whiskers because of her cute little whiskers (in retrospect, a very autistic moment on my part). However webkinz world had a character limit, so i spelt it somewhere along the lines of "Stripinkwhskr"

Anybody else ever notice a lot of the webkinz cats have a chest bump?

Also on the topic of commercialization of stuffed animals, I know every teen/adult collector loves plushies of fandom characters, but there's legitimate concerns about how those (compared to generic animals/creatures) inhibit children's creativity and encourage a consumerist mindset where they "need" the official branded plushie to play pretend, as opposed to improvising with a plushie they already have that could play other roles as well.

For example As a kid I loved Warriors, and I had a black cat Webkinz which I could pretend was Ravenpaw or Crowfeather or Hollyleaf or one of my OCs or any other black cat whether Warriors or otherwise... Compared to the official branded Ravenpaw who can only ever be Ravenpaw.

Of course I'm not saying branded plushies should be banned or anything, and I don't think they do any harm to teens/adults who can think critically about consumerism, but it's concerning when it comes to children, especially nowadays that more and more plush companies are doing brand deals. (Build-a-Bear originally never had licensed characters but now they make up like literally half of the selection.)

Idk if I explained this well but you can look up talks/writings by Susan Linn (a child psychologist & activist) for more detail, her books are why I originally started thinking about this

Yessss I totally agree, I hate seeing the flexibility in play and imagination sell out for commercial plushies. I totally did that with my Webkinz cats, too - I remember playing with my Alley Cat and Charcoal Cat!
