Oooooh, this is hard because Peeta is my favorite character in the series. Let's see... I'm doing both moment and quote because my favorite moments don't have my favorite quotes.
The Hunger Games:
Moment:The cave scene is the obvious choice, but I absolutely adore when he's teasing her in the river to help ease her stress over his injury. That scene just really highlights his easy-going, self-deprecating humor and I love him for it. Not caring if she and the entire country see him naked? Iconic.
Quote: I stand by this being the most important quote in the series because it shapes Katniss' narrative and how she moves forward in the series. And also because it proves Peeta isn't some weak character.
"I don't want them to change me in there. Turn me into some kind of monster that I'm not...No, when the time comes, I'm sure I'll kill just like everybody else. I can't go down without a fight. Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to--to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games," says Peeta.
Catching Fire:
Moment: Listen, Peeta Mellark shines in this book. Shines like the sparkling pearl that he is. Collins made him shine because she knew what she was going to do to him in Mockingjay and wanted us (and Katniss) to hurt. There are so many moments I could choose.
But my favorite moment probably in the whole series if I'm being honest is when Peeta gets knocked out by the force field and Katniss freaks the eff out, slapping him in the face, flabbergasted when Finnick starts kissing CPR, shoves Finnick out of the way when he comes to, AND THE FIRST THING PEETA SAYS IS "Careful. There's a force field ahead." LIKE. SIR. YOU JUST DIED. YOUR GALLOWS HUMOR IS SHOWING. And then he COMFORTS KATNISS AFTER JUST DYING. A true star. We stan Peeta Mellark in this household.
And then the fact that this moment is Peeta's true death sentence because it's what convinces Snow that Peeta can truly be used against Katniss???? *chef's kiss*
Quote: I am a simple woman and Katniss observing him drawing always gets to me. Look at them, being a normal couple for once, drawing on the couch while her foot heals. Just look at these two idiots.
“I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him... I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.”
Mockingjay:
Moment/Quote: I absolutely love when Katniss and Peeta talk for the first time since his hijacking. That scene is incredible and proves Everlark would be incredibly obnoxious in a modern au if/when they ever broke up because that's literally what Mockingjay is with war thrown in. The pain and anger in this scene. Katniss' frustration. Peeta's hard, observant words. I eat this stuff up like it's cake.
"I must have loved you a lot."
"You did." My voice catches and I pretend to cough.
"And did you love me?" he asks.
I keep my eyes on the tiled floor. "Everyone says I did. Everyone says that's why Snow had you tortured. To break me."
"That's not an answer," he tells me.

Forgotten Light Chapter 14: Crescent Lagoon
A/N: Chapter 14 is here, and fairly short, especially after chapter 13′s monster length. Might even post chapter 15 today. We’ll see.

Chapter 14: Crescent Lagoon
           The sombrosa swords were apparently a type of dual swords whose handles were half of the other, kind of like cutting a curved sword down the middle lengthwise.
           No, Seth wasn’t allowed to touch them, yes they were magic. The wielder, with proper concentration, could make the swords sharp enough to cut through almost anything, even dragon hide, or sturdy enough to withstand tremendous pressure, though only one affect could be applied to each sword at one time. Apparently the Knights of the Dawn had had a combat tournament back in the day, and Grandma Gloria and Grandpa Stan had been the two finalists.
           Vanessa took over discussing what an umbraka was and why them running loose is the perfect reason to end a tournament, but kept referencing other animals that Seth didn’t know, and it was decided there wasn’t enough time to get into that. There was another sanctuary that needed saving.
           He was helped out of the Canoe by Warren, who had gone through before him. Instantly the humidity hit.
           “It feels like I’m trying to breath in the ocean,” Seth complained.
           “You’re welcome to compare a bit of humidity to the real experience,” Vanessa said, gesturing to the harbor. Tanu came through, then Grandma Gloria. Holding the canoe steady were short halflings. They were covered in black tattoos over their reddish skin and more of them were scattered between their spot and the treeline.
           Their group gathered around a tall islander woman. Her long, curly black hair had a couple of gray streaks, but her age didn’t show otherwise. Next to her was a red-headed surfer dude.
           “Welcome to Crescent Lagoon,” the woman said, “I am the caretaker, and due to the assistance of Knights Warren and Vanessa, we were able secure this small area to be protected under treaty. Be aware that the boundaries cover the beach, the water inside the cove, and about ten meters out on either side of where the beach turns into forest. And of course, my home, which you are all welcome to.”
           Seth looked around, trying to make out houses around the enormous trees, but couldn’t see anything. Then a halfling came down an elevator from the big tree in the center, and Seth’s eyes went up. And up. Because this caretaker’s home made their old treehouse back at Fablehaven look like a doghouse.
           “Wow,” Seth said, looking over the rope system. “We sleep in hammocks, right?”
           “I’m sure we can string one up directly over the dragon-infested ocean for you, if you like,” Warren said with a grin.
           “There are plenty of dangers here already,” Tanu said, “I don’t believe we need to tempt more.”
           “Thank you for receiving us during these difficult times,” Grandma said, bowing to the caretaker, “I am Gloria Larsen, a knight of the dawn. Allow me to introduce my Grandson, Seth Sorenson, a shadow charmer, and Knight Tanu Dafu, an expert potion’s master. We will look forward to working together as we pursue our mutual goals.”
           “Well met,” the Caretaker responded. “I am Savani, and this is one of my assistants, Grady. We will speak of more sensitive issues inside, particularly our mutual goals.” Savani started leading them away from the beach.
           “Do we climb a rope latter to get up there?” Seth asked, looking at the interchanging platforms for a rope that hung all the way down.
           “Not quite,” Grady said, “The Maze keeps us on our toes, but we spare ourselves at least the effort of getting up there.”
           “It’s called the Monkey Maze?” Tanu asked, “Do the rooms shift?”
           “Against intruders,” Grady answered, “We work closely with Heliconia, the dryad of this grove, to keep them together for most uses. Certain parts are forbidden, of course.”
           “Is it required for all preserves to have dungeons for the horribly dangerous?” Seth asked, straining his ears to hear the sounds of the undead. There was a faint whispering, but it was slightly different than the Blackwell or even Fablehaven’s dungeon. He couldn’t make out anything but a low murmur, almost hidden by the sound of waves.
           “Yes,” Vanessa said, “it is part of the base foundational treaty that all the sanctuaries are copied after. The caretakers must remove those who threaten the integrity of the treaty, and the undead rarely agree to be bound while being attracted to the magical souls of those on a preserve. Or they do, then break their word, and wind up in jail.”
           “Noted,” Seth said.
           “I would tell you that you should disregard that information,” Grandma Larsen said, amused, “but I suppose you should take note.”
           “Here we are,” Savani said, bringing them to a platform that had a rope going up into the trees. “Please assemble on the platform.”
           “It’s easier if you hold onto the rope in the center,” Vanessa warned, and everyone but Warren grabbed on. Seth grinned and kept his hands off.
           “Brace yourself,” Warren said, crouching a little. The platform shot upwards, and Seth fell on his butt with a surprised laugh. He made it back to his feet before the platform stopped, and the adults were all chuckling at him.
           “Do we get everywhere in the treehouse with unbuckled rollercoaster elevators?” Seth asked, jumping onto the bigger room the platform had become a part of.
           Savani chuckled, “No, the rest is walking, I’m afraid. Come, the Menuhene have prepared refreshments to welcome you.”
           “Menuhene?” Seth asked.
           “Think of a breed of dwarves that hold agreements similar to brownies,” Tanu suggested, “Though their specialty if building, rather than maintaining households.”
           “Awesome,” Seth said.
           “Here we are,” Savani said, leading them to a different enclosed room via rope bridge. It had a couple of tables and wicker chairs. “Now, explain to me what brings a child to my nearly fallen preserve, former caretaker or not. Vanessa and Warren promised allies, not liabilities.”
           “Hey, I saved Wyrmroost, and I’ve handle more secret vaults than you would ever believe,” Seth said, “I thought we were past doubting me and Kendra.”
           “Be respectful Seth,” Grandma said gently, then turned to Savani, “It’s true, that Seth is young, and if it hadn’t been for the opening of the demon prison and the upcoming dragon war, we would have preferred him to grow up before venturing near any dragon sanctuary. He does have experience. Unfortunately, Seth is one of few true Dragon tamers in the world, able to move and converse with ease. Seth has also become a shadow charmer, and his skills are necessary for upcoming trials, one of which involves retrieving his sister from the Phantom Isle. One of our goals here is to find training for Seth from a demon whose interests are strongly aligned against dragons.”
           “A dragon sancturary is an odd place for a dragon hating demon to lair,” Savani said, “Who is it you seek?”
           “Talizar,” Grandma said.
           “I am familiar with him,” Savani nodded, “he’s one of the rare demons that invoke boundary magic as one of his tools, rather than relying on his own strength against dragon neighbors. Caretakers in the past have mentioned him activating Moai to more strictly enforce dragon boundaries. His lair is on the same island as the corrupted pool.”
           “Another of our goals,” Tanu said with a nod, “We have reason to believe that Ronodin kidnapped Seth’s sister and our dear friend, Kendra Sorenson. Any chance to capture and interrogate him needs to be investigated immediately.”
           “And, of course,” Warren added, “We want to help further restore the boundaries of Crescent Lagoon, prevent it from falling and all that jazz.”
           Savani nodded slowly, eyeing them. “I see where our interests align. I will lend you aid where I can, but my aid is further reduced by the fall of this preserve, though it improves with the aid of Warren and Vanessa, who were able to bring back the Moai that protects the Monkey Maze. As long as one Moai is active, the outer boundaries of this preserve are intact. Unfortunately, this is a temporary refuge.”
           “Why is it only temporary?” Grandma Gloria asked.
           “I see there was not time for complete explanations,” Savani said, going to a map on the wall, “We lost the Sunset Pearl, which was the magic source for all the Moai in the preserve. As a failsafe, individual moai can be activated independent of the sunset pearl, as the moai currently protecting here was by consuming a sacrifice of a person’s most treasured object. I will not be able to pay the debt I owe to Warren for being willing to sacrifice his.”
           “What was it?” Seth asked.
           Warren was looking at the floor, “A limited print baseball card I always carry with me. The player was my dad’s best friend, an Uncle to me, close as family can be. He died of cancer years ago, and it was all I had left of him.”
           “Warren’s sacrifice was accepted,” Savani said, “As was my sacrifice of my family’s ancestral tablets. I can read the Moai, and we have two weeks of protection before another sacrifice is required by someone else.”
           “It’s harder than you think,” Vanessa said, “Deciding on a most important object. I couldn’t think of anything then, and still can’t think of anything that the Moai would have accepted. Obviously the goal is to restore the Sunset Pearl before our current sacrifice runs out.”
           “Any idea where the Sunset Pearl was taken?” Tanu asked.
           “None,” Savani sighed, “I’ve lost many allies in the process of looking, but nothing has come from those sacrifices.”
           “They also need to know about the Triclops,” Vanessa said.
           Savani nodded, “Mombatu the Triclops is the designated dragon slayer of this sanctuary. He became active when the sanctuary fell, and he is savage. He will slay a dragon before a human, but he has lost his faculties over time. He is so ancient, my people supposed him dead, and now he is a danger to anyone who comes near him, including me. He has driven the dragons away from this particular island, and is therefore the current greatest threat to our borders.”
           “Really, there is no way to talk to him?” Grandma Gloria asked, “Seems a poor choice for a dragon slayer allied with the treaty makers.”
           Savani shrugged, “Our legends say the original caretaker could soothe him to peace with a flute song, but the song and the flute have been lost to legend.”
           “Shame we didn’t bring Newel and Doren with us this time,” Seth said, giving a little grin. The cowards would absolutely refuse to play their panflutes for the triclops unless the only other choice was to be eaten.
           “As Savani suggested,” Vanessa said, a wry grin on her lips, “The magic was in the flute, rather than being a fan of the instrument. We’ll let our satyr friends recover another day in Fablehaven before testing their bravery once again.”
           “Have you seen the site where the Sunset Pearl was kept?” Tanu asked.
           “I saw it with Hako,” Warren said, “We didn’t find much. Ten really big moai in a ring facing inwards. An altar of piled stones at the center with a bowl on top. Supposedly three guardians protected the pearl, but there was no sign of them. There were tracks from the triclops though.”
           “No sign of the three guardians and triclops tracks,” Grandma Larsen mused, “Were they dependent on the Pearl for existence?”
           “I believe so,” Savani said, “and the triclops tracks are likely from it’s rampaging, rather than having to do with the theft. The triclops appeared long after the pearl had vanished.”
           “Okay, so we need a pearl, would like a flute, have to watch out for a rampaging triclops, Ronodin was spotted lurking around a corrupted pool, and we need to locate a demon to negotiate some training with him. Anything else we should discuss before planning?” Seth asked.
           “What remains of your staff?” Tanu asked.
           “Grady here,” Savani said, “Hako, our gamekeeper. And Uma. Uma is frail and in a wheelchair, but she will likely interest you, Potion Master.”
           Tanu blinked, and his took on a bit of awestruck, “Not Uma Stormbrewer.”
           “The same. She joined our staff after her legs gave out, but she and her skills remain sharp,” Savani said.
           “That’s…she’s a legend,” Tanu said, “She’s a grand master of potion making, I hardly deserve the title compared to her.”
           “Good thing you got courage potions in abundance,” Seth said, slapping him on the shoulder, “And I suppose you two should know about another ally we brought. Calvin, say hi.”
           Calvin peeked out of his pocket, “Hello,” he waved. “I wasn’t sure to introduce myself or not, I’m one of those assets best left hidden. I’m Calvin the Nipsie.”
           “You are welcome here, small ally,” Savani said, bowing her head in a nod of recognition. She waited a moment, then said, “I believe we have reached a summation of our assets and current goals. Onto planning. Hako was planning on investigating the corrupted pool alone today, since we had no timeframe for how long it would take Warren and Vanessa to find allies, even with the small dragon’s help.”
           “I want to go with and help with the investigation,” Seth said.
           “I go where Seth goes,” Grandma Gloria said. “Depending on what we can locate at the corrupted spring, it would also be foolish to not to greet Talizar and open negotiations for training while we are already outside the protections granted. Just as it would be foolish to delay, if our time limit is really only two weeks.
            “I believe I will skip this venture in order to consult longer with Uma,” Tanu decided, “I have many fresh ingredient from dragons that I hope she will be interested in.”
           “I believe she will be,” Savani said with a smile. Everyone turned to Vanessa and Warren.
           “Well, what do you say?” Warren asked Vanessa with a smile, “It’s been, what, almost twenty whole hours since our last near death experience? I think we’re up for another round.”
           “Right, practically a vacation,” she said drily. “Wouldn’t want to become bored with existing.”
           “Count us in for one trip to the corrupted spring,” Warren said.
           Finally, he could start following a lead on Kendra. She just had to keep Ronodin’s slimy hands and stupid words away from her for a little bit longer.

Sometimes the total hypocrisy of Harry selling TPWK as his personal slogan while having an affair with Olivia, breaking up a household with young kids, and proudly wearing matching Gucci garb to debut the relationship hits me over the head. Real, fake, serious, casual -who cares. Olivia is just as responsible if not more since it was her family unit but seeing Harry stans including larries who think it's fake say "oh well, that's show business" is revolting. It shows what a marketing fiction --1
2---- TPWK really is. Even larries acknowledge Harry chose to participate in Holivia to benefit his career. What kind of a "kindness" standard do they really think he lives up to while they buy his rainbow TPWK merch? Ironically it's like the Season 2 slogan for Ted Lasso, a totally fictional character, "Kindness makes a comeback."
I guess the presumption for Larries is that there is a different person inside of Harry who is the “complete opposite” of what we see on the outside.
This diametrically opposite person to everything we can observe is somehow “fighting” for himself and Louis, despite a complete lack of evidence.
(They’re just pulling it out of their asses now. Prove me wrong.)
Somehow Harry is “kind” despite his extreme unkindness to women, fans, bandmates, and anyone else who can’t promote him. To Jay who loved him.
So why do fans think Harry Styles is kind?
Because of his trademark?
Because Larries dispensing propaganda said so?
Because he’s as bland as a slice of white bread? Dressed up in pearls and nail polish?
Because WE FANS aren’t kind if we can’t pretend Harry is kind?
(Now that is fucking misogyny LOL.)
Harries who love a cruel, abusive, ruthless, toxic, selfish man are probably more honest and realistic, in 2021. Isn’t that true?

Dabb's Dream of a Red Chamber: Death's Library (Bo Ming Si) and Dean as Qin Keqing
I've seen a lot of SPN meta on this website, and in typical fashion, I'm YEARS late to the game. But I think there are some things that can only be understood in retrospect, and SPN's structure is one of them. What I'm trying to say is this: when Dabb took over, he turned Supernatural, a Western show about saving people and hunting things, into Dream of a Red Mansion, a Chinese literary classic about inter and intra family conflicts, class conflicts, political conflicts, and above all-- women.
Yes, I know how absurd this sounds. Why on earth would Dabb do that? My guess: because there is no surpassing Dream of a Red Chamber when it comes to metafiction-- the answer to the question "why metafiction?" will probably devolve into speculation about the network, so I won't get into it now.
What really tipped me off was that scene in 13x05, where Dean tries to commit suicide, but ends up Death's library instead. Some necessary background info: there is a scene in the first few chapters of Dream of the Red Chambers where Baoyu takes a nap in Qin Keqing's room (which is scandalous in its own right) and is transported to Taixu Huanjing, a dream world of goddesses in another dimension. The English translation? Taixu = The Void (note how this corresponds to the Empty, which makes its first appearance in 13x04), Huanjing = Dream World. Baoyu comes upon Jinghuan Xianzi, the goddess in charge of this world, who then takes him into a library called Bo Ming Si-- the Office of Unlucky Women-- and shows him books containing the fates of all the women in his family.
Does this sound familiar? Because it should. Here's a screenshot of Bo Ming Si from the 2010 adaptation:

Now let's take a look at Death's library (pics from Superwiki):

Look at how the books are stacked in both shows. The reason they're stacked horizontally in Dream of a Red Chamber is that Chinese books tend to be very soft. The reason they're stacked horizontally in SPN is???
But that's just a coincidence, you might say. But Dabb doesn't just stop there. He borrows symbols, motifs, character relationships, family conflicts, and more from Dream of a Red Chamber-- he even borrows the structure. I'll talk about the structure and the motifs in another post-- today I'm here to talk about Dean.
Readers familiar with Dream of a Red Chamber might ask at this point-- is Dean Baoyu? No. (I'll talk about Cas, Jack, and Baoyu in a separate post.) So who is Dean?
Billie tells Dean that "every notebook on this particular shelf tells a version of how [he] die[s]." Let's see what Jinghuan Xianzi tells Baoyu-- he's shown three volumes titled "The Twelve Beauties of Jinling." The main volume records the ladies of his household, the second volume records the concubines, and the last volume records the maids.
Dean gets multiple notebooks because he's a combination of multiple characters from the first volume-- he starts off as Qin Keqing, who has multiple identities in the book, despite dying within the first thirteen chapters. Who is Qin Keqing? She is:
- the younger sister of Jinghuan Xianzi.
- the one who teaches Baoyu the matters of love in the dream world. She is his sexual awakening, and even though she doesn't do anything more scandalous than let Baoyu sleep on her bed in the human world, her brother is Baoyu's introduction to gay sex.
- the wife of the first and only son of the legal wife of the older branch of the Jia family. In other words, she's the wife of the future head of the household.
- there are theories that she may be the daughter of a prince who lost power, but I doubt those count for much here.
- she "dies from illness" but according to the "The Twelve Beauties of Jinling," she hangs herself after everyone learns that her father-in-law raped her.
- her death signals the beginning of the end of the four major families; her funeral is far too lavish, as is her coffin (it's made from wood that was originally reserved for a prince's funeral), and it's hinted that this is the beginning of the end of the Jia family, because they've reached above their station.
Now let's see how this matches up with Dean. We know that he:
- has played the reaper and has a special connection with Death.
- teaches Jack about romantic love in 14x06.
- is the head of the household.
- is possessed by Michael at the end of S13, an experience that's coded as rape, and is suicidal for most of S14 as a result. He then brings back a special coffin, which later causes Jack to lose control, which marks the beginning of the end for the Winchesters. Of course, the coffin scene references other media too. Angel comes to mind.
Now let's talk about Qin Keqing's best friend, Wang Xifeng. I'm not implying that Dean is anything like Wang Xifeng (although a case can be made that her panci might have influenced Dean and Cas's storyline, but that's a separate post). I bring up Wang Xifeng purely because I want to compare Dean to Lady Wang, Wang Xifeng's aunt and Baoyu's mother. If you're a Dean stan who's read Dream of the Red Chambers, you're probably livid right now. But think of it this way-- Lady Wang is a victim of patriarchal feudalism, and while Dean isn't a woman living under this sort of oppression, Dabb alludes to a similar power structure, and there's a reason why there are so many posts comparing Dean to the Eldest Daughter.
Late season SPN is where Dabb explores female-centric themes in a male centric show. Yes, I find this absurd too, but that's the choice he made. It's why Amara exists. It's why he brought back Mary. It's why S12-15 is extremely domestic. And it's why he covers a range of female experiences through Dean.
Let me go back to Qin Keqing. If she hadn't died, she would have been in charge of running the household, and she would have done an excellent job. But would she have been happy?
No.
The only other woman who matches Qin Keqing's talents is Wang Xifeng, and she dies relatively young. If she'd lived-- would she have turned into her aunt? Lady Wang is described as "wooden," but we know from Grandma Liu that before she married into the Jia family, she had a fiery personality, just like Wang Xifeng. Marriage turned her bitter. Indeed, Baoyu remarked that marriage turned women from pearls into dead fish eyes. And even though Dean isn't married, the role he plays in his family and his conflicts with Cas (and his resulting dislike of Jack) are very similar to the problems the legal wife of a wealthy man in ancient China would face. Or rather-- they're very similar to the problems the wife of a wealthy man/noblesman in a patriarchal feudalistic society would face. He probably would have identified with Catelyn Stark in GOT.
I'll probably write another post exploring how Red Chamber influenced the intra family conflicts in SPN, but before I do that, I want to talk about one more thing: Qin Keqing's nickname is Jian Mei, which means Both Beauties; she's considered to share both Daiyu and Baochai's beauty. Am I saying that there are shades of both Daiyu and Baochai in Dean's late season characterization? Yes. Dabb leans toward Daiyu = Dean and Baochai = Sam, although he plays with Baochai = Eileen too. Let me give you the shorthand for what these women stand for.
Daiyu = rebellious, bucks societal conventions, dies from a broken heart when Baoyu is tricked into marrying Baochai.
Baochai = obedient, adheres to societal conventions and thus the patriarchy, marries Baoyu but is then cast away because Baoyu decides to become a monk.
Tomorrow, I'll go into greater detail on how Baoyu, Daiyu, and Baochai appear through Cas, Dean, Sam, Jack, and Eileen, and how these choices tie into the finale.

What You Need to Know About the Birth of Rock and Roll and Cars
Music And Cars Go Hand In Hand
Some people would say there is no better union than when the music and auto industries come together. In both social and physical spaces, cars can be a medium of expression for power, wealth, mobility, and speed while music represents love, thrill, pride, and other emotions we can associate with owning and driving a vehicle built as a signifier of one’s status in life.   Another thing that music and cars have in common are the stories they share with people of different backgrounds. These are the stories woven by the people who write music and those who navigate their way down a road.   In every musical experience, and in every drive, people create stories they either share or keep, but definitely remember through time. The fact that countless songs are describing or sharing a snippet of the experience that cars and driving bring is no coincidence.  
A Historical Perspective of Rock ‘n Roll ‘n Cars
  It was around 1940s when both Rock ‘n Roll and the old, classic hot rods were born. That was a point in history that signified the pinnacle of a new march to progress that the extensive rural electrification and industrial engines powered to some degree.   To further explain the relationship of Rock and cars, let’s take a look back in 1939 when World War II began. That was the time when the devastation that the Great Depression caused began to abate. And ironically for some, the time when the US economy found the chance to start over.   When the United States declared its participation in the war after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, it immediately shifted into the nation it is today - one that actively produces industrial war machines. The production shift provided work to many Americans, with hordes employed in munitions factories working behind a common and larger cause.   The war, though it destroyed the lives of millions of people, brought new opportunities to the American economy. The IEEE History Center reported that during the time, virtually every American could get employment with longer workweeks as well as higher earnings despite the limits to wages.   People established more unions from left and right, and they gained members who were able to demand unprecedented work benefits. Even women and marginalized sectors also found economic opportunities during the war, that employment rates rose in general at the time.   Alongside the aggressive production of industrial machines used in war, the electrical industry also experienced rapid changes. As it was becoming clear that World War II was beginning to be a war of technology, electrical engineers all throughout the world, including in America, had to step up their game.   The specialty of the engineers transformed from one with well-defined applications that cover electrical power and communications to another that is turning into a source of economic strength and pervasive technological advancements.   One of the most novel and widely used technological innovation that began in the same period is wideband FM. Edwin Armstrong, who was responsible for the breakthrough, improved the performance of FM radio by reducing its bandwidth. And since 1940, when there were 150 applicants for FM broadcast stations in the USA, people continue to take advantage of the uses of audio radio transmissions.   The advancements continued in the post-war era when hot rods together with Rock music fueled some of the greatest youth movements we know of the 20th century. Industrialization continued with the reproduction of automobiles and Rock began to transmit in the ever-becoming popular FM radios and TVs, which saw a swell in number when American households in the late 1940s bought almost a million units.   After the Great Depression and the tragedies of World War II, a period of affluence, comfort, and consumerism was born in the changing American society. A time for Rock ‘n Roll and the rebound of the automobile industry was unfolding.  
Mercedes in the Picture
  As mentioned earlier, hot rods and Rock fueled much of the post-war era, after a rapid industrialization during the second World War. And aside from the famous image of Rock stars going around for a drive, many of the songs popularized in the early music scene mentioned in the lyrics the names and models of cars.   One of the most popular car makers that artists included in their songs is Mercedes-Benz. It’s a little bit ironic though that the luxury automobile maker comes from the State that makes up one of the Axis powers in the second world war. And now it has some mentions in songs popularized in one of the strongest Allies of World War II.   However, that is just one of the beauties that music and cars can make. The stories change, and in every song and drive is a different experience for the driver, composer, singer, and listener. Despite the tragedies of the past, we find countless other tales and memories in music and cars, both as products and producers of history.   Here are some of the well-known songs that included Mercedes-Benz in the lyrics.  
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
  Released in 1998, You Get What You Give is a song popularized by New Radicals, an alternative rock band that was active for only two years. Gregg Alexander wrote and produced the song which hit number one in different singles charts.   However, Alexander put more emphasis on the downside of fame, and his critique on it underscored the distaste he has for the value society put on celebrity attention and stardom. It is probably the reason why he wrote about smashing the Mercedes-Benz of “frienemies,” shattering the symbol of luxury and celebrity status.   It was only a matter of time before he decided to break away from being the band’s frontman, all while in the middle of their album cycle. But he did continue his passion for songwriting and producing songs for other artists, which he preferred over the burnout he experienced while trying to create a hit record.   Even though Alexander stayed away from the gaze of the public, the hit You Get What You Give remained in the mainstream even during the fifteen years that followed.  
Stan Ridgway - New Blue Mercedes
  Stan Ridgway is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist known for his lyrical narratives and distinct voice. In 1997, he released the song New Blue Mercedes which provides us a look into the realities of different people who are not living the American dream.   The Mercedes-Benz in the picture was in stark contrast to the community he paints, not only because it was new and blue, but because it was the symbol of affluence that the people could not attain.   Some would say the greatness of Stan Ridgway is attributable to the unique voice he uses in narrating the stories of individuals he has observed in his life. Ridgway, through his songs, has a way of drawing details of characters who live with a particular pain or suffering.   With his music, Ridgway continued to capture the diversity that the American people have. He writes down what he has observed and heard, and with excellent comprehension and skill in delivering, he shares these stories through music and metaphors like the Mercedes.  
REO Speedwagon - Don’t Let Him Go
  Don’t Let Him Go is a song released in 1981. REO Speedwagon performed this song that Kevin Cronin wrote. The single reached the top 25 of Billboard’s Hot 100 at the time.   Though REO Speedwagon is more popularly known for Can’t Fight This Feeling, Don’t Let Him Go is another song that brought the limelight on the American Rock band that has been in the industry since 1967.   It was Neal Doughty and Alan Gratzer who began their jam sessions when Doughty was still under the electrical engineering program at the University of Illinois. Since then, the group continued to write hit singles and entered the celebrated Rock music industry.   The single, Don’t Let Him Go, comes from the perspective of a singer, as ordinary as can be, who is only pleading with a girl on behalf of his friend. The Mercedes in the lyrics is part of the characterization of that friend as a James Dean kind of guy who can grab the attention of people because of his status.  
The Dean Ween Group
  Ween was an alternative rock duo formed in 1984 in America, by childhood friends Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman, better known by their stage names Gene Ween and Dean Ween. Currently, Michael “Mickey” Melchiondo, a guitarist who was also active in Moistboyz, runs the Dean Ween Group.   The newest single of Dean, Mercedes-Benz, delivers a funky tune with the right groove from horns and playful keys. It is a slick slice of rock with lyrics that shows something fun yet still gives a hint of the stratifications in society. With its line where the singer is offering his “fair-weather friend… a job cleaning the wheels of [his] Mercedes-Benz.”
Eagles - Hotel California
  The Eagles’ Hotel California is probably one of the most iconic songs ever written that have shaped the rock and roll scene. Released in 1977, and winning the Grammy Record of the Year award in 1978, the song was a Billboard chart-topper with more than 16 million copies sold in America.   While there are plenty of theories that try to explain what the song is all about, the members of the celebrated American rock band has revealed multiple times in various interviews that their piece is about the excess and self-indulgence of America.   Similar to Stan Ridgway’s New Blue Mercedes, Hotel California describes the dark side of the American dream. However, this time, it’s about living the dream in excess. Elements of the song drew inspiration from the fame and success that the band was experiencing at the time.   Originally named Mexican Reggae, Hotel California made it to the list of Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest songs of all time. The classic rock song is an interpretation of life in the fast lane in L.A., again basking in the limelight and success of the band.   And just like the other songs, the luxury car was another symbol of the high life. Though the band wittingly turned the name into Mercedes bends to show to some extent a lifestyle that isn’t as smooth as the public might think.   But since the single’s release, The Eagles continued influencing the Rock and Roll industry. In 1998, they were inducted into the Hall of Fame for Rock and Roll, and it was during that time when all former, as well as present members, performed their massive single together on stage.  
Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz
  Mercedes Benz is an acapella that Janis Joplin performed impromptu. She wrote it in August 1970 at a bar in New York. According to Joplin, she remembered the first line of a Michael McClure song, asking God to buy the singer a Mercedes Benz.   With that in mind, she performed the song at the bar. Much of the piece was about questions of material wealth and whether that could bring anyone contentment. Unknowingly, that was the song that Joplin would ever record before she died of an accidental overdose at age 27.   The Mercedes-Benz song that Janis Joplin popularized is a blues music with tunes that evoke the loneliness that come with an illusory happiness. That kind of happiness initially appears with worldly goods, yet no one can ever attain it even after buying the product that presents itself with joy and satisfaction.   For many, the song is a rejection of a consumerist world and practices that Joplin saw and experienced as she grew up in a middle-class white family in Texas.   In the different verses, Mercedes-Benz, color TV, and a night in town were the distinct material goods that Janis Joplin saw and sang about in the piece. Joplin saw them as something that will deceive you with a kind of happiness that will never last for long. According to Joplin, neither of the three would bring her the joy and peace an individual deserves to live life well.  
Takeaway
  Much of the changes that we saw in the production of cars and music, specifically rock and roll happened swiftly during and after the second world war. A critical moment in our world history that’s marked with struggles and aggression also paved the way to an industrial advancement as well as an evolution in the music scene.   Nowadays, we can enjoy the fusion of rock and roll with cars to signify the mobility, power, and wealth that characterized an era of movements, not just in the global political scene, but in the music and automobile industries too. Oooooh, this is hard because Peeta is my favorite character in the series. Let's see... I'm doing both moment and quote because my favorite moments don't have my favorite quotes.
The Hunger Games:
Moment:The cave scene is the obvious choice, but I absolutely adore when he's teasing her in the river to help ease her stress over his injury. That scene just really highlights his easy-going, self-deprecating humor and I love him for it. Not caring if she and the entire country see him naked? Iconic.
Quote: I stand by this being the most important quote in the series because it shapes Katniss' narrative and how she moves forward in the series. And also because it proves Peeta isn't some weak character.
"I don't want them to change me in there. Turn me into some kind of monster that I'm not...No, when the time comes, I'm sure I'll kill just like everybody else. I can't go down without a fight. Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to--to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games," says Peeta.
Catching Fire:
Moment: Listen, Peeta Mellark shines in this book. Shines like the sparkling pearl that he is. Collins made him shine because she knew what she was going to do to him in Mockingjay and wanted us (and Katniss) to hurt. There are so many moments I could choose.
But my favorite moment probably in the whole series if I'm being honest is when Peeta gets knocked out by the force field and Katniss freaks the eff out, slapping him in the face, flabbergasted when Finnick starts kissing CPR, shoves Finnick out of the way when he comes to, AND THE FIRST THING PEETA SAYS IS "Careful. There's a force field ahead." LIKE. SIR. YOU JUST DIED. YOUR GALLOWS HUMOR IS SHOWING. And then he COMFORTS KATNISS AFTER JUST DYING. A true star. We stan Peeta Mellark in this household.
And then the fact that this moment is Peeta's true death sentence because it's what convinces Snow that Peeta can truly be used against Katniss???? *chef's kiss*
Quote: I am a simple woman and Katniss observing him drawing always gets to me. Look at them, being a normal couple for once, drawing on the couch while her foot heals. Just look at these two idiots.
“I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him... I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.”
Mockingjay:
Moment/Quote: I absolutely love when Katniss and Peeta talk for the first time since his hijacking. That scene is incredible and proves Everlark would be incredibly obnoxious in a modern au if/when they ever broke up because that's literally what Mockingjay is with war thrown in. The pain and anger in this scene. Katniss' frustration. Peeta's hard, observant words. I eat this stuff up like it's cake.
"I must have loved you a lot."
"You did." My voice catches and I pretend to cough.
"And did you love me?" he asks.
I keep my eyes on the tiled floor. "Everyone says I did. Everyone says that's why Snow had you tortured. To break me."
"That's not an answer," he tells me.

I have a friend who hates Peeta so much, because they only watched the movies. They said that Peeta is a weakling and a stalker etc.
What key point or best qualities of Peeta's I should tell them so they change their mind? Thank you 😊

Hello! I've seen people answer this, but I finally have the mental ability to get to this. So, let's see!
I think it's important for people to remember the time these movies originally came out in, which was post-Twilight movie era. Everyone and their mother was trying Not to Be Like Twilight. Which is ridiculous and sexist and yeah. Not Great, Bob. But yeah, the movies don't portray Peeta well (especially the first movie) because of this reaction to the Twilight movies. I think it's extremely important to remember that, and looking at interviews with cast for the first movie really drives that home. I wrote my thoughts on how Peeta/Everlark are portrayed in the movies and why it lacked so so much here.
As for qualities: Peeta Mellark is one of the most rebellious character in the series and is crucial to the plot. He doesn't just talk the talk. He walks the walk. Peeta is the one who wants to die as himself and not be a piece in the Capitol's game (which Katniss thinks is DUMB when she first hears it and later understands and embraces, might I add). Peeta is the one questioning why they should stop rebellion (IN SNOW'S MANSION!). Peeta is the one who drops the baby bomb, making those in the Capitol protest sending an expectant mother into the Hunger Games. Peeta is the one who warns District 13 about the attacks, thus saving them and risking more punishment himself. Peeta does a lot in the series that only Katniss gets full credit for, especially in the movies.
But his biggest rebellious trait is his kindness. Everything stems down to that. From risking a beating to save Katniss when they were kids, to purposely aligning himself with the Careers in their first Games to protect her (Which he almost DIES for). And then giving a lifetime worth of money to Rue and Thresh's families because he wanted to and not asking permission. He just does it. Kindness is so so rare in Panem (and our world, honestly). It does not get the respect it deserves, which is why he is often seen as "weak." But being kind to someone, especially when that someone wants you dead for game, is a thousand times harder than being mad and cruel. This is what makes him stand out to Katniss time and time again. And she does not mince words when it comes to her thoughts. She admires him greatly because of his kindness.
Another one of Peeta's strength is how he can work a crowd and that is extremely powerful. Words hold power, especially in a propaganda war like the one in the series. He can weave a narrative like no one's business. This is how he and Katniss win their first Game, ultimately. That star-crossed-lovers move helped them gain sponsors, even though he was merely stating he has a crush on her. And before someone claims that's manipulative, let's just think about how any of his statements harm anyone but himself. They don't. In fact, KATNISS (and Haymitch) is the manipulative one out of the two--for good reason! She was trying to keep them alive, but she played with his feelings no matter the intentions. She also drugged him, which isn't a great look either.
I'm not even touching upon how having a crush on someone is equivalent to stalking. I don't want to be friends with someone who jumps to that conclusion because it's unhealthy to think that. Unless Peeta is peeping in her window at night and following her every move, (which he's NOT. He AVOIDS her before and after the games) it's not stalking. In fact, he leaves the ball in Katniss' court throughout the entire series. She is always the first to initiate contact with him, seeks him out.
TL;DR: Peeta is important to the series. There would literally be no series without him because he's the moral compass to Katniss' story arc, makes her fully understand that the Capitol plays these games and the districts and tributes are just pieces in it. He is smart, kind, and important.

My dearest friend, shall my eyes feast on the second chapter of the much anticipated story “The Flock” soon?

Here's a little teaser:
“I have decided Katniss will be dressed in blood red,” Marta announced that night in her cool, leveled tone. “It will act as a symbol of rebirth.” 
Cecily frowned. “Red? For a Binding? That seems a bit…unconventional.” 
“Perhaps,” Marta mused, stirring a bit of cream into her tea, “But Bara and I wish for Peeta’s Binding to be seen as a new dusk for our people. Samuel’s demise lies heavy on all our souls,” she said, her words incongruous with her tone, which did not sound remotely upset about the assassination of her husband’s father. “It is best we continue to remind the Flock that our family is about progress, and innovating what does not work.”  
“This is a Binding,” Cecily sniffed. “Not a political statement, Madame.”
“Ah,” Marta smiled, “but every ceremony is a political statement when you share the blood of the Mockingjay, Lady Axson. It is best to remember what family Katniss is joining.” 
How could Katniss forget? She was reminded of it constantly.

Flock Part 2 Teaser
I thought I’d give a little teaser to those interested in part 2 of The Flock. Enjoy! @rosegardeninwinter
“My lord!” Katniss exclaimed, holding onto her veil in fear the stupid thing would fly off in their haste. “What is the hurry?” 
Peeta stopped them and let go of her hand, taking a calming breath in. “Apologies, Miss Axson. I just knew my temperament was not ready for your grandmother, and my mother,” he added to lessen the insult. 
A smile played on her lips. “It is alright if you are not fond of my grandmother, Your Grace,” she mused, not expecting such an honest opinion from him. Everything about the Mellarks felt so calculated, especially as the Binding drew near, that it felt nice seeing her intended express his true thoughts to her. Katniss took a step closer to him. “In fact,” she said in a half conspiratorial whisper, “I am not always fond of her either.” 
There was that smile she liked so much. “Miss Axson,” he said, his voice warm in amusement, “I do not believe I’ve ever heard a woman speak so frank about her guardian. Well,” he laughed, “I suppose I’ve heard plenty from my mother, but never from a lady.” 
“Are you insinuating your mother is not a lady, Your Grace?” 
“I insinuate no such thing,” he said. “And let us stop with such titles. Our souls are to be Bound in two short months and you will be my wife. Call me by my baptismal name.”

Her upcoming Binding to the High Priest-Elect is sure to be an event for the tomes of Flock history, particularly if her grandmother has anything to say about it. But the longer the preparations drag on, the more beleaguered the young bride becomes. Peeta Mellark may be handsome and kind, but is that enough to entice her into life as a prudent and pious wife … and with Madame Mellark as her-mother-in-law?
As her impending nuptials loom, Katniss begins to consider her options.

Wow. So over a year ago, when posting The Flock: The Pairing, I had no idea it would garner the love and support that it has. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words and enthusiasm. Part two would not be here without you all.
