truly the fact that the cesspool of racism and other nightmarish ghoulery that is the chicago hockey team has a mascot who is my hand to gd named tommy hawk is just the cherry on the racism sundae. the nhl ought to owe me and every other indigenous person out there 20 dollars every time we have to be reminded this monstrosity of an organization is allowed to exist mostly-unquestioned.

no ethical consumption under sports teams etc nobody's teams are gonna be beyond reproach etc but like. some things are worse than other things. for example, having a racist caricature for your logo and a mascot named tommy fucking hawk is worse.

this was their reasoning for why Aemond having his eye cut out isn't deserving of the same anger as Alicent cutting Rhaenyra... I know this is a show about royalty and politics but for a single second can we view children as just children and not pawns in the grand royal/political scheme.

Aemond was a CHILD, can we just give a shit cause he was a child, cause he was maimed, could he be treated with the half decency of just being a kid deserving of at the VERY least an apology?

honestly my gears are grinding over calling Aemond, a child who was just permanently disabled and then asked to be tortured, the SPARE of all things.

"Fall back! I repeat, fall back: area is not secure!"

"Move in!" Gil announced before any order was given. Technically he was second in command in Thena's absence, him and Kingo being the most senior Agents present. He didn't need to hear anything else.

Thena was in danger, and he wasn't going to allow it.

The junior agents were scattered around, some having been taken out as soon as they were in the building.

Gil hauled one up by the collar of his shirt, "what the hell happened in here?!"

Kingo put a hand on his friend's shoulder, squeezing as best he coudl over their thick layers of protective gear. "Take it easy, Gil."

"Th-They were waiting," the young agent squeaked out. "We didn't know until all units were in the building. Something came through the vents, then they jumped us."

Gil dropped the kid to the ground again, stepping around his body and proceeding with caution around every corner. "Eyes up, masks on, people!"

Kingo hand signalled the rest of the unit following behind them. Kingo leaned closer to Gil, "Boss was in the third unit to enter."

Which meant she shouldn't have been too far in the building by the time things went wrong. Gil walked around their comrades as they proceeded. "Tell medical about all these stupid kids."

"Come on, man," Kingo admonished. "You were all buddy-buddy with these 'kids' less than a week ago."

"And if anything happened to Thena, I'm gonna have them all kicked out of the agency or worse."

Kingo gave up on trying to talk him out of it, knowing it was a lost cause. Gil and Thena both weren't the best at being particularly logical when it came to one another. "Focus, Gil."

It only managed to rile him up more, because it wasn't Thena's soft voice telling him that. "Fuck you."

"Okay, good talk," Kingo sighed until they came across the most troublesome area. "Shit."

Clearly they had put up a fight on both sides. Agents were sprawled about, but so were some of the low level participants of the operation they were busting.

"Boss!"

"Thena!"

She was a few feet away from the rest of them, probably having tried to go further in before whatever was in the vents had incapacitated her as well. She had even pulled off her bulletproof vest, probably to check herself for injury after being shot at.

"Thena!" Gil rushed over to her, practically sliding on his knees to reach her. He pulled the inner material of his collar down from his nose and mouth, pulling her up into his arms.

It was in complete disregard for protocol. He didn't check for her injuries first, he didn't wake her and ask her the standard 'can you speak',. 'can you breathe', etc. He pulled her into his arms and all but shook her in his desperation to see her open her eyes again.

"Gil?" she groaned out, pinching her brows together as she came to.

"Thena," Gil gasped out in relief, pulling her closer and cradling her head protectively. "You're okay!"

"What are you doing here?" she frowned, glaring at him out of one eye (with some blood from her forehead having gotten in the other). "You were ordered to wait as backup."

"I know, but the kids blew it and we had to move in," he scoffed, reaching into his standard issue cargo pants and fishing out what was definitely not a standard issue handkerchief. He wiped some blood from her eye before dabbing at her forehead. "Can you stand?"

Thena nodded up at him, "it looks worse than it is. All that really happened was we spooked them out the back of the trap. Tell me we were waiting for them at the rear."

"Yes, we got 'em all," Gil chuckled, letting her grip his sleeve in need and then release it almost immediately. He frowned at her, "I know I asked if you can stand, but are you sure you should be on your feet?"

"It's fine, Gil," Thena attempted to protest, although she didn't actually succeed in attempting to pull herself up out of his arms. "Just...I'm just...jus-"

Gil shook his head. Whether it was blood loss or a concussion or the gas, he wasn't about to let her try walking by herself. Medical would have his head for moving her without their permission, and the higher ups probably wouldn't be happy with him either.

Thena would be livid once she woke up again.

But Gil picked her up in his arms, carrying her like a bride back the way they came, past the rest of the agents also being collected in the aftermath of the disastrous operation. He had no sympathies for the kids being picked up off the ground. Not with Thena lying limp in his arms as she was. He bent his head down close to her, "almost there."

"Gil," she sighed, drifting in and out of it as he carried her. "M'fine."

He smiled down at her. She would absolutely have his badge for thinking she looked kind of cute when she was sleepy, but he could keep that thought to himself. "Yeah, you seem real fine, Boss."

#ayyyyyyyiiiiiii #like oh yeah sorry my partner tried to off themselves last December and then they were on leave for 9 months and we were living on one in on #and they just came back a month ago and it’s not going well and honestly they’re probably gonna have to quit and I don’t think they’ll be #able to work anymore at all #anyways all my bills are over dude my credit is fucked and I get about 20 calls a day from bill collectors #not to mention I’m still trying to figure out the short term disability ahit HR fucked up #oh yeah and also my depression is relapsing and I have ‘can’t do things or pay attention’#disorder and terrible anxiety and my depression is relapsing #plus we had 2 deaths in the family very recently which I still haven’t had time to process #and you know I have to leave work early yesterday to go to urgent care cause I was having a miscarriage!#and they scooped me and gave me meds!#so like 15 client projects 6 internal projects and onboarding 2 people while you change literally every single process and rule after firing #half of my team and leaving me as the only person with product knowledge #well it’s a lot it fucking handle.#I’m dying #like how do you even say that.#you don’t #you just suffer in silence as the bone chilling dread and ‘waking up unable to breathe’ panic takes over

i'm not saying that Criminal Minds is like a revolutionary show like i am fully aware of its flaws but the show does Found Family so well. The show takes the time not just to develop each of the characters individually to give them a rich and varied backstory and character arc but also takes the time to build individual bonds between each them in unique and distinct ways, which is extremely rare for an ensemble show.

They have such real and tangible bonds not just as a cohesive group but also with each in a way that doesn't feel forced or scripted but deep-rooted and dug into your heart. It's an ensemble show in the purest sense, and every single character is meaningful and noteworthy and i just - i am in no way pretending that there isn't something off-kilter about finding a show centred around a FBI Team hunting serial killers to be comforting, but goddamnit Criminal Minds is a comforting show.

#adi watches tv shows #criminal minds #i just love this show and the people in it so much #like if i take emily as a centrepiece right #we know that she has smth special with JJ and Penelope #and lets even say for a second that we can take it granted that she's got a special connection with Hotch #but she's also got her own thing with Spencer #and she and Derek are besties i will die on that hill #and she and Rossi are shit stirrers #and its the same for every single character they have such deep-rooted bonds not in the assumed sense of like oh yeah theyre a team #but you can pair off every single one of these characters in various permutations and combinations #and each time you will come up with pairings with meaningful and real bonds and developed character arcs #and thats rare for ensemble shows but even rarer for crime procedurals #which generally primarily revolve around one or maybe two characters and only occasionally share the limelight with others #idk im rambling i just love this show

In before I start seeing people bitching about rainbow capitalism MY favorite rainbow capitalism story is about Subaru. Yes the Japanese car company.

In the nineties, they were struggling. They were competing with a dozen other companies targeting the main demographic at the time: white men ages 18-35, especially after a failed luxury car launch with a new ad agency. “What we need is to focus on niche demographics,” they decided, and then focused on people who enjoyed the outdoors. The Subaru was excellent at driving on dirt roads that many other vehicles couldn’t at the time, so it was perfect for all those off-road campers; they started making all-wheel drive standard in all their cars to help with that. And the people who wanted cars to go do outdoor stuff? Lesbians.

Okay. Of course it wasn’t only lesbians buying Subarus. They’re on the list with educators, health-care professionals, and IT people. But the point is, this Japanese car company interviewed this strange demographic (single, female head of household) and realized one important factor: They were lesbians. They liked to be able to use the cars to go do outdoorsy stuff, and they liked that they could use the cars to haul stuff rather than a big truck or van. Subaru had a choice to make then. They had four other demographics they could market to, after all--the educators, the health-care professionals, IT professionals, and straight outdoorsy couples. Their company didn’t hinge on this one “problematic” demographic.

And they decided “fuck it,” and marketed to lesbians anyway. This included offering benefits to American gay and lesbian employees for their domestic partners, so it didn’t look like a cash grab. (This was not a problem. They already offered those in Canada.)

Yes, there was some backlash. They got letters from a grassroots group accusing them of promoting homosexuality, and every letter said they’d no longer be buying from Subaru. “You didn’t buy from us before, either,” Subaru realized, and ignored them. It helped that the team really cared about the plan, and that they had many straight allies to back them up. There was also some initial backlash when Subaru hired women to play a lesbian couple in the commercial, but they quickly found that lesbians preferred more subtlety; “XENA LVR” on a license plate, or bumper stickers with the names of popular LGBTQ+ destinations, or taglines of “Get out. Stay out.” that could be used for the outdoors--or the closet.

Subaru said “We see you. We support you.” They sponsored Pride parades and partnered with Rainbow Card and hired Martina Navratilova as spokeswoman. They put their money where their mouth is and went into it whole hog. In a time where companies did not want to take our money, Subaru said, “Why not? They’re people who drive.” And that was groundbreaking.

A couple job interview hacks from someone who has to give a job interview every single goddamn day: (disclaimer: this goes for my process and my company’s process, other companies and industries might be different)

1. There are a few things I check and a few questions I ask literally just to figure out if you can play the game and get along with others in a professional setting. Part of the job I interview for is talking to people, and we work in teams. So if you can’t “play the game” a tiny bit, it’s not going to work. Playing the game includes:

- Why do you want to work here? (just prove that you googled the company, tell me like 1 thing about us, I just want to know that you did SOME kind of preparation for this interview)

- Are you wearing professional clothing? I don’t need a suit just don’t show up in a ratty t-shirt and sweatpants.

- Are you able to speak respectfully and without dropping f-bombs all the time? Not because I’m offended but because I don’t want to be reported to HR if you wind up on my team.

- Can you follow simple directions in an interview?

2. Stop telling me protected information. I don’t want to know about what drugs or medications you’re on, I don’t want to know about you being sick, I don’t want to know if you’re planning to have children soon, I don’t want to know anything about your personal life other than “can you do the job?”

3. When we ask, “What questions do you have for me?” here are my favorites I’ve heard: - What does the day-to-day look like for a member of your team?

- If one of your team members was not performing up to his usual standard, what steps would you take to correct that?

- What can I start doing now to accelerate my learning process in this job?

- What are some reservations you have about me as a candidate? (be ready for this emotionally....it will REALLY help you in the future, and I’ve had people save themselves from a No after this, but can be hard to hear)

- In your opinion, what skills and qualities does the ideal candidate for this job possess?

- What advice would you give to a new hire in this position/someone who wanted to break into this industry, as someone who has worked here for a while?

Those are just my tips off-the-cuff. I work in sales in marketing/SAAS, so these can be very different depending on the industry, but I wish the people I interview could read this before they show up.
