An astounding set. The voices of the 3 boys echoed into the universe as the rain fell from the Swedish clouds. Phoebe crowd surfed during "Salt In The Wound," a somehow even more rock star end to the set than usual. Lucy's voice has never sounded lovelier than it did during "We're In Love." Julien's whirling dervish guitar work during "Satanist" was from another planet. They are simply the best band in the world at this very moment.
boygenius is one body moving together - eyes, lungs and heart. An astounding combination of friendship and art. Their microphones voltroning together to form a hurricane gust of love for 60 minutes. The band has just started a European tour that will take them through the end of August. Be there. It's the best show on the planet right now.

Name: August Palomino
Age: 29
Birthdate: 02/02/1838
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Centaur
Place of Origin: Providence, Rhode Island
Born in the centaur neighbourhood of Providence, August joined his father working at a private-hire carriage company as soon as he was strong enough to pull a carriage. Long hours for very little pay soon grew exhausting for the centaur, and once he met Carlos Hernandez, who would come to be his lifelong friend, the two made plans to head west. Arriving in the newly-founded Bronze Bay, California, the two established their cattle ranch, where after a few months they were joined by the squamatan Sa'alku. Although a strong and incredibly hard worker, August is easily bored and isn't fond of taking orders.
(via Mary McCaslin, Folk Singer Who Lamented the Lost Old West, Dies at 75 - The New York Times)
Ms. McCaslin, who also played banjo and ukulele, was self-taught, and her open tuning — tuning the strings to sound like a specific chord, as Joni Mitchell did — distinguished her guitar playing.
“While Joni’s tunings were more jazz-inflected,” said Mitch Greenhill, president of Folklore Productions/Fli Artists, who managed Ms. McCaslin and her first husband, the folk singer Jim Ringer, starting in the mid-70s, “Mary’s went the opposite way. They were more angular, more Celtic sounding. And she always put the tunings on her albums, which aspiring musicians always appreciated.”
Tunings are a never-ending hole of possibility. especially if you don’t limit it to western 12-tone standards.
Mattel has on and off had controversy over Barbie being a sexualised figure but I felt it important to note that in addition to cabaret dancers, lingerie models, superheroes in fishnets and Sports Illustrated models...
...Mattel did in fact have a collection of Pin Up Girls.
The three dolls in the collection were Lady Luck, Hula Honey and two versions of Way Out West - one blonde, and one redheaded.
Way Out West Barbie features little denim shorts, red cowboy boots, a lasso and cowboy hat. The back of the box calls this a "provocative ensemble" for this "All-American" "girl next door".
Hula Honey is a doll that I am erring on the side of assuming that it is racist, though i don't know enough to say for sure. She is wearing a sarong, but has a coconut bra and grass skirt to change into.
Her box text calls the grass skirt and coconut shell bra "kitschy".
Finally, there is Lady Luck, a lounge singer in a fur throw. Her box text specifies that she is a representative of Las Vegas. Unlike the "provocative" and "kitschy" former dolls in the collection, Lady Luck is "glamorous" and "alluring".
