A Conversation with Sydney Sweeney for Immaculate
Sydney Sweeney appeared at a packed session ahead of the premiere of her new film "Immaculate" at SXSW. She spoke about being terrified to host SNL, hoping to work with Martin Scorsese one day and how she convinced her parents to let her become an actor. Sydney both produced and played the lead in "Immaculate" which premieres later this month in theaters nationwide.
2. & 3. Angelica Garcia at British Music Embassy
Angelica opened Tuesday night's British Music Embassy and was electric. Bounding back and forth across the stage, Angelica quickly made everyone's necks turn towards the stage.
4. & 5. Holly Macve at British Music Embassy
Luxuriously lit in tandem with her unreal voice, Holly was spectacular. She's a movie star. The sun. Her gravitational pull is something else.
6. Dust at Icenhauer’s
Dust played their first show in the US and burned down the afternoon stage at Icenhauer's.
7. Asha Jeffries at Icenhauer’s
I've been spinning Asha's song Stranger on loop these past few days and the live version was somehow even better.
8. Arny Margret at Empire Control Room
Arny's voice is unreal. An unbelievable writer and musician. Just her and a guitar on stage. Make sure you see her this week in Austin.
9. & 10. Forest Claudette at Empire Garage
Forest lit up Empire Garage. What a voice. And listen to him, don't be a motherfucker.

BRITTANY HOWARD AT WEBSTER HALL.

Brittany Howard rolled into New York City on Friday night to start a sold out two night stand at Webster Hall for The What Now Tour.
In the early days of a tour in support of her spectacular new album What Now, Brittany ripped through 19 songs. Brittany started off with two heaters from the newest album - "Earth Sign" & "I Don't." She followed by picking up the guitar, which caused a rumble through the crowd, for "He Loves Me" from her first solo album Jaime.
Backed by an incredible eight piece backing band and two complimentary singers, Brittany kept pushing the temperature warmer and warmer throughout the set - "Red Flags" and "Baby" - being two highlights. "Every Color in Blue" was astounding. She closed the night with the title track from What Now.
Brittany is a continuously ascendent musician. Her voice is a rocket ship to the stars, her guitar a propulsive ocean current. The stage show her and the band have put together propels each movement of her beautiful discography higher and higher. Her voice in person is like a warm blanket. The band is back at Webster Hall on Saturday night before heading to Washington, DC and Asheville, NC before the end of February. Brittany and the band play Coachella, Bonnaroo and a bunch of other dates in the US and Europe this summer. Go see this record live.

2023 OBAMA FOUNDATION DEMOCRACY FORUM.

On the eve of the 15th anniversary of his first presidential election, President Barack Obama and the Obama Foundation convened the 2023 Democracy Forum in Chicago.
This year's Democracy Forum explored the issues critical to strengthening democracy worldwide. The Democracy Forum focused on four pillars identified by President Obama as areas to strengthen democracy including 1) Detoxifying our discourse, 2) Developing models for a more sustainable and inclusive system of capitalism, 3) Revitalizing our institutions so that people believe participation is worth the effort, and 4) Building democratic culture.
President Obama's remarks
Following the Forum, the Obama Foundation hosted a celebration with alumni of President Obama’s campaigns and Administration to celebrate the 15th anniversary of President Obama’s 2008 election and his victory speech in Grant Park. The celebration included remarks by former First Lady Obama, Jen Psaki and Kal Penn in addition to a performance by Jon Batiste and a live taping of Crooked Media’s Pod Save America with President Obama.

The Last Dinner Party is the next band you need to know. They are currently in the midst of their first US tour ahead of the February 2nd release of their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy....
On Thursday night, the band played a 14 song set to a packed Bowery Ballroom, closing the night with a rousing Dire Straits "Money For Nothing" cover. The band has the juice, they're the real deal. Star power on another planet. See this band while they're playing rooms this small. They hit Philly on Saturday night before heading to LA and Chicago.

THE VOIDZ AT MURMRR THEATRE.

The Voidz, 10 years deep into their history, played the second night of their Murmrr Theatre residency Wednesday night in Brooklyn.
Running through a completely different setlist than their Halloween show the night before, Julian and the band started the night blasting off with "M.utually A.ssured D.estruction" and "The Eternal Tao 2.0."
The band was flying throughout the night - mixing new and old Voidz. The brand new "Flexorcist" tore the roof off. The combo of "Permanent High School" and the Michael Cassidy "Think Before You Drink" cover was an astounding crescendo. Closing the encore with "Pink Ocean" and "Pyramid of Bones" was unreal. What a band.

DANIEL CAESAR AT THE MET PHILADELPHIA.

Capping a monumental week of selling out Madison Square Garden and stunning everyone on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Daniel Caesar dazzled Philadelphia on the final US stop of his Superpowers world tour.
Running through jams including "Ocho Rios," "Best Part," and "Always," Daniel and his heavenly voice were pushed to even greater heights by the Superpowers stage visuals. The stage, a mixture of screens and silhouettes, continuously morphed with Daniel throughout the night. At points Daniel was hidden behind sheer drapes, just his shape and voice painting the scenes. Other times, like during fan favorite "Loose," just a single spotlight on Daniel and his piano illuminated the stage.
It was a beautiful performance - a continuation of Daniel's growth since 2017 when he exploded on the scene with Freudian. I covered Daniel back in 2017 and 2018 during his first major run across the stage and it's so lovely to see how his artistry has expanded and deepened.

boygenius rolled into London with just their guitars and played two sets at Kingston's PRYZM on Thursday night. Playing an entirely acoustic set, the boys show felt like a hangout session (with a confetti cannon).
Julien Baker's crescendo on "Anti-Curse" was astounding. Hearing Julien's voice unleashed in a quiet room was ceiling splitting. The interpolation of "Me & My Dog" and "Letter To An Old Poet" sent a wave of joy through the room. Lucy's voice on "True Blue" felt like a warm blanket.
The boys continue their European tour in Paris today before heading to Edinburgh this weekend.
