Clint had “a friend taking care of” the New Year’s mess at the Central Park Zoo (Zoogate? The Great Hippo Disaster of 2021? Waterzoo? What were they calling it?). That, of course, seemed highly suspicious, because, as far as Kate was aware, Clint had no friends. Besides herself. And Natasha. And maybe the rest of the Avengers. So, like eight friends. Tops. And as far as she could tell, none of them were “taking care of it.”

Which left one other long-shot, galaxy-brained idea--but what was being Hawkeye, if not following those terrible ideas, and those alone?

The other other archer. The one in green, who wasn’t actually Robin Hood, but gave off the right vibe. Maybe he was their cover, or their alibi, or the person to whom she and Clint both owed a life debt. She didn’t know what “taking care of” it meant, really; Clint had been vague, and she’d been too drunk to ask for more detail.

She just wanted to thank him for keeping the two of them out of trouble. And doing right by the hippos. So she nervously circled the block while trying to sus out his vibe to make sure she was thanking the right guy, checking her phone at every corner, walking with purpose in the least suspicious way she could manage. And it wasn’t good enough.
