They tried long distance relationship when Leon chose to follow his own dreams to go to New York and learn the culinary arts. It caused a bit of tension between them when they were young, something that was prominent as they both got older while Zoe was constantly the younger sibling that felt always in the shadow of their older sibling while they felt ignored and irreverent compared to her.

It wasn't until Zoe was in high school did things between them change, slowly at first to where things actually seemed to be looking up for them aside from the normal bickering that was often found as the household grew to more than just the two of them. However when Zoe left, that's where we would plot out whether their sibling was supportive or not about her departure and if they haven't been in contact much over the years or if it's been a long distance relationship. It'll sent the tone now that she's back in town where they'll have to figure out how to be siblings again.

Carmen and this character met when she was in high school; he was her aunts next door neighbor, the two started dating and they got pregnant at the age of 16. The challenges of being young parents hit them hard, and they spent majority of their co-parenting career ‘separated’ despite the fact they were great partners in the parenting team. They truly became best friends, and even though things with them didn’t work out, they were always there for each other. When Carmen landed herself in a sticky situation with a neighbor at college – Berkley- it was her ex that she called and who came running to her rescue, which made the two take a look at their life and decided to try to make it work, but ultimately broke things off again when they decided that co-parenting and being friends was what they were meant to be. They’re still close to this day, and Carmen considers him one of her closest friends outside of her wife, Mei.
