Propaganda
Laurence Olivier (Hamlet, Rebecca, Pride and Prejudice)—Any reference article will tell you that he's one of the finest stage actors of the 20th century and (arguably) contributed to transforming the landscape of live theater in the Anglophone world. But this is the Tumblr hot men poll, where it is arguably more important to know that he was an incredibly charming bi disaster who eye-fucked Vivien Leigh so conspicuously that everyone talked about it, both before and after their marriage. I do not have words for how hot this man was. I once sat under a portrait of him in black velvet and tights in the NPG cafeteria, and let me tell you I remember that so much better than my sandwich. I listened to a recording of him as Coriolanus on stage and got full-body chills. I photographed his copy of Richard III in the Folger Shakespeare Library for the sake of seeing his handwriting and his thoughts. ...okay, so I may have a problem, but the point is. So hot. And delivered one of the iconic pre-1970 lines about bisexuality on film ("oysters *and* snails," Spartacus 1963.)
Harry Belafonte (Carmen Jones, Island in the Sun)—one of my favorite things in the world when I'm sad is kicking back and listening to him and Danny Kaye singing "Hava Nagila" together. Or who can forget this man singing the Banana Boat song with the Muppets?? immensely talented, a powerful fighter for civil rights and humanitarian causes his whole life, if you have any remaining doubts PLEASE look at the following pics [clips and pics attached below]
This is round 3 of the bracket. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage man.

"Now let me say this about the songs of the Caribbean - almost all black music is deeply rooted in metaphor. The only way that we could speak to the pain and anguish of our experiences was often through how we codified our stories in the songs that we sang. And when I sing the 'Banana Boat Song,' the song is a work song. It's about men who sweat all day long, and they are underpaid, and they're begging the tallyman to come and give them an honest count - counting the bananas that I've picked, so I can be paid. And sometimes, when they couldn't get money, they'll give them a drink of rum. There's a lyric in the song that says, 'Work all night on a drink of rum.' People sing and delight and dance and love it, but they don't really understand unless they study the song that they're singing a work song, a song of rebellion." -Harry Belafonte

"THEE actor man. You can't take theater classes and not know about this man. THEE Hamlet. Look at this lil blondie. VERY talented. (we are ignoring him also playing Othello, no he should not have done that) He was a pretty baby"

Ok but Vivien and Atalanta with a so with very long hair. Like waist to thigh length
Vivien would love it! His hair is nearing his shoulders, a little long for a man but he likes it that way, but your hair is a whole new level. He loves to stroke it and run his fingers through it to calm you down. He'll get up early to simply have a chance to braid it for you to go to work. He will gladly dig hairballs out of the shower drain with no complaint. He'll stay up at night praying that his future children will get your perfect hair. He loves your hair and would be devastated if you cut it.
Atalanta hates doing hair which is why she cut most of hers off, but she will absolutely cherish your hair. She already loves to take baths with you, and she would love to just let you relax while she takes care of you. She will keep the most talented stylists and consultants on retainer to keep your hair healthy and shiny. She will buy you only the best accessories. She will ENSURE that whenever you both go to a charity gala, the talk of society will be how lovely your hair looks and how perfect the two of you look together.

“In the Soviet Union they considered Vivien Leigh as the greatest movie star of them all and Waterloo Bridge (1940) as one of the great films of all time. In America, they gave her the plum role of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939) and two Academy Awards. In England she was mainly the wife of Laurence Olivier, the world’s greatest stage actor – no wonder she made so few films and had such an odd movie career. She made ten films before Gone with the Wind, ambitiously acquiring a reputation, and worked in only eight more after that epic made her world-famous – admittedly she suffered from ill-health and considered herself primarily a stage actress, but it does seem as if a fine screen talent was semi-wasted … Her movie persona was a fascinating one. Despite her incredible Dresden doll beauty, she was one of the cinema’s great not-very-nice ladies; not quite the bitch type, more the unscrupulous, wily, kittenish beauty who uses sexual attraction as a weapon to get her own way. The role of Scarlett was the greatest embodiment of this seemingly unsympathetic but actually mesmerizing personality, but virtually all her roles were this type.”
/ From The Illustrated Encyclopedia of The World’s Great Movie Stars (1979) by Ken Wlaschin /
Born on this day 110 years ago: brilliant, fragile and intense English stage and film actress Vivien Leigh (5 November 1913 - 8 July 1967). Alongside Anna Magnani and Elizabeth Taylor, Leigh was one of the screen’s definitive interpreters of Tennessee Williams’ work (my all-time favourite performance of hers is in The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone (1961)).

15 questions tag
tagged by @ahordeofwasps a little while back, so thank you! I'm going to fill this out for Vivien from claws, since it'll be good to flesh out and play with his character more outside of unhinged drafting hours.
interview under the cut, with a mild content warning for referenced self-harm and suicidal ideation.
Rainier's done a lot of interviews. Vivien's watched all of them, over and over and over. Sometimes, when he needs to escape his body and mind both, he’ll mouth his own answers alongside Rainier’s. It’s almost like they’re sitting together on the stupid TV sofa, under the bright lights.
“So, are you named after anyone?”
“My dead brother.” He’s always wondered what Rainier would think of that. “Is that weird? I loved him. Now it’s like he’s not dead, even though he is, and he left me.”
Rainier wouldn’t think he was weird. Rainier would understand. Of everyone in the world, he’s sure Rainier would understand.
“When’s the last time you cried?”
Vivien stares at the dark ceiling. His arms are still stinging, freshly scrubbed and wrapped. New scabs to pick tomorrow. “About twenty minutes ago.”
“Do you have kids?”
“If someone ever knocks me up, I’ll kill myself.” The thought of it makes him want to claw his insides out. There’s no-one, not even Rainier, he’d do that for. Would he adopt, though, if Rainier wanted? He’s not good with kids, they make him feel awkward and ungainly, but he thinks Rainier would be a good dad. Maybe that would work.
“Do you use sarcasm a lot?”
“I grew up on the internet, what do you think?”
“What’s the first thing you notice about people?”
“How big they are. How tall. If they could fuck me up if they decided to.”
“What’s your eye colour?”
“Dark brown.” His are darker than Rainier’s. He’s checked. Rainier’s are still brown, but they’ve got warm little flecks of honey in them, and they tint gold in sunlit photos. He could gaze into them for hours.
“Do you prefer scary movies or ones with happy endings?”
“Horror movies are better than any other kind. They show what reality feels like. They’re more real than real life.” He likes the ones that hurt—him or the characters. The ones were everyone dies at the end, or where the ones that survive are ruined forever; stories where you can’t change back. He likes the way it feels, when the terror fades the world out, when it lingers in the dark afterwards, keeping you awake.
“Have you got any special talents you’ve been hiding?”
When Rainier says no, he sounds adorably humble, ducking his head a little with a self-abashed laugh. He’s too busy being the best demonologist in history to have extra talents. Vivien knows he’s good in bed, that’s not even a question, but he supposes it doesn’t really count as a hidden talent. Not one for a morning talkshow interview anyway.
When he says he has no talents, he just sounds pathetic. If he has to interview with Rainier, hopefully they skip this one.
“Where were you born?”
“At home. I was a surprise—surprise baby, surprise birth. I never did anything right, not from conception.” He’d never say where home was, not on TV. Someone might go looking. Someone might go finding.
“What hobbies do you have? What do you like to do for fun?”
“I don’t know, listen to music, I guess? I don’t like going out for it, though, I hate crowds. And loud noise. And drunk people.” Keeping track of what Rainier’s doing doesn’t count as a hobby—that’s a calling. “I can’t really have a bunch of hobbies—they all require money and interacting with people. Is skiving off the therapy your sister keeps making you go to a hobby? Cause I do that and it’s fun.”
“Do you have any pets?”
“I wish. I want a tarantula—they’re so beautiful, so delicate, and I don’t see why I still can’t have one. It’s not like they leave hair everywhere for some other tenant later to get allergic to or whatever.” Vivien sighs, glancing at the many, many printed-out arachnids decorating his wall amongst the band posters. “Besides, I couldn’t afford one anyway. Not like Jaimie would help me pay for it.”
“Were you a sports man? How do you keep yourself in shape now?”
Vivien snorts. “I ditched every P.E. lesson I could. I don’t want to get undressed and then sweaty around a bunch of girls, or deal with a bunch of stupid bullshit because they can’t let me in the boys changing room. Fuck all that. I don’t care if I’m not ‘in shape’. It doesn’t matter anyway if I can’t get surgery yet.”
“How tall are you?”
“Like. Five-five, I think? Five-six? Something like that.”
“I’m sure we can all probably guess, but what was your favourite subject in school?”
“Biology. Seeing how things fit together, how they work—looking at the insides. Doing dissections. Three girls ran out of the class when we had to cut up a sheep’s heart, it was fucking pathetic.”
Not that he got the best results. They rely so much on remembering everything, exactly correct, and it’s not his fault if stuff just won’t stick. He knows what he needs to.
“You have what a lot of people might call a dream job—is it? Or do you dream of working somewhere other than Riess University’s demonology department?”
“I don’t want to work for those fuckers at Riess, I just want…” Vivien stares at the screen, at Rainier three inches high rendered in flat pixels. “I just want to be with you. In whatever way you’ll have me.”

Nagy Ő III/7: Szerelmem, Erika
Szépségverseny. Második forduló. Minden versenyzőnek meg kell mutatnia, miben tehetséges. Enikő egy vacsorát ledolgoztató laza edzéssel készült, amiben a többi lány is részt vesz.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Emőke táncol a Táncolj című méltán világhírű magyar slágerre. Ez egy közepesen jó produkció volt.
Tumblr media
Csenge is táncol, de ő ilyen modern-hiphop jelleggel.
Tumblr media
Vivien 2 szolidan kineveti.
Maria stand up comedyvel készült.
Tumblr media
Szintén Erika javaslatára megmutatja a másik tehetségét is: tud hápogni. Nem viccelek, tényleg hápog.
Tumblr media
A zsűri megjegyzi, hogy Erika sikeresen megtorpedózta Vandát a szar tanácsaival. A nő büszke is rá.
A szőke hercegről, Zoliról.
Tumblr media
Gyakorlatilag írt egy fan fictiont a Nagy Ő műsorról, amiben ő nyeri a versenyt. Nagyon meta.
Ezzel zárul a talent show. Mielőtt felvonulhatnának Zsófi bemószerolja a négy lányt, akik szándékosan szar ruhákat válogattak a másik négynek. Először a rosszul járt lányok vonulhatnak be. Emőke lép be elsőnek.
Jól áll neki a függöny.
Tumblr media
Szerinte, akkor gazdag valaki, ha a szíve is gazdag. Csenge elég bátortalanul vonul be, látszik rajta, hogy nem érzi jól magát a ruhában.
Tumblr media
Vanda a neki adott ballonkabátban érkezik. Babett szerint Columbo feleségére hasonlít. Schmuck Andornak biztos bejönne.
Tumblr media
A Nagy Ő farka is zsűritag lett. Miután Kis Zolival megszavazták a győztest, felvonultatják a versenyzőket.
Ákos, a faszi, akivel a beköltözés előtt kavart, meglátogatja.
Tumblr media
A csávó megkérdezi, hogy mit akar tőle. Vivien időt kér, amit a férfi tiszteletben tart. Én a pénzt választanám.
Másnap a lányok teljes depibe süllyednek.
Kicsit sírdogál is. Edina ismét támaszt nyújt a lánynak.
Álnéven írhatnak a lányok leleplező cikkeket egymásról. Edina szeme felcsillan a lehetőségre. Mehet a karaktergyilkosság.
Zoli a reptéren fogadja Bettit. A nő egy fehér rózsát vitt a férfinek. Nagyon romi.
Tumblr media
Zoli felhozza a Titanic produkcióját.
Tumblr media
Közben elkészült a kép. Bettinek elájult a szava tőle.

When Alice Munro won the Man Booker International prize in 2009, many considered it a beatification that was long overdue. For decades, Munro has been publishing collection after collection of beautiful short stories, widely admired, widely read, but it's been an unflashy career, seemingly careless of the trappings of fame or bestsellerdom. This is simply a good writer doing what she loves.
Her fellow Canadian, Margaret Atwood, said, "Among writers, her name is spoken in hushed tones," but unlike many authors who are considered to be writers' writers, Munro's deceptively straightforward, narrative-based stories have achieved an audience beyond her immediate fanbase, despite her rare public appearances and refusal to give interviews. The corollary of her steady, unimpressed attitude to the trappings of fame is mirrored in her cool prose. Each of the 14 stories in this collection is like a novel-in-miniature, concerned primarily with the telling of the tale rather than rhetorical flourishes.
These are not stories that can be read quickly, back-to-back, any more than you would read 14 novels back-to-back. Each needs to settle in the mind because Munro has an uncanny knack of convincing the reader that the characters have real lives before the stories commence and continuing existences after. "On the bench outside the station I sat and waited…" begins "Amundsen", the second tale in the collection – and it's a classic example of how Munro takes the reader straight into a life-in-progress, in this case an account of a young woman, Vivien, on her way to work as a teacher at a residential home for children with tuberculosis. She soon catches the eye of the medic in charge, the aptly named Dr Fox, and the rest of the staff hear wedding bells. Vivien does too, but the ringing sound will have a slightly off-beat echo for most readers as Munro drops one hint after another that Dr Fox is not reliable. When the wedding is aborted, it comes as an inexplicable shock to her, yet seems inevitable to us.
Most of these stories are set in the rural towns around Lake Huron in Munro's native Ontario, around the time of the second world war, and the petty humiliations of small-town life are apparent in each: in particular, the humiliations of being a woman in an era where being seen in public when pregnant, smoking or even expressing an opinion too forcibly was considered unbecoming. In "Haven", a young woman is forced to stay with an uncle and aunt while her parents are in Africa and becomes witness to the way in which the uncle continually undermines his wife and how his hatred of a musically talented sister persists unto the sister's untimely death. "There was a quantity of things that men hated…" the niece observes. "Or had no use for, as they said. And that was exactly right. They had no use for it, so they hated it."
Munro's stories are full of smart young women wryly observing men's desire for dominance and other women's collusion with their own subservience. In "Dolly", the narrator observes of a love rival, "men are charmed by stubborn quirks if the girl is good-looking enough… all that delight in the infantile female brain."
But it would be wrong to think of Munro as a chronicler of the particular disappointments of being female: she draws men just as well. There is a heartbreaking portrayal of a widowed policeman in "Leaving Maverley". Despite the inevitable end of his wife's lengthy and terminal illness, he realises as he leaves the hospital: 'He'd thought that it had happened long before with Isabel, but it hadn't. Not until now. She had existed and now she did not… And before long, he found himself outside, pretending that he had as ordinary and good a reason as anybody else to put one foot ahead of the other."
There is an interesting diversion at the end of this book: the final four stories are, in Munro's own words, "not quite stories… the first and last – and the closest – things I have to say about my own life." A less well-known writer would not be allowed to lift her hands and say, "Look, there are some bits here, and I'm not sure what they are, but there you go," but they are delightful additions to this collection. Plainer, with a slightly more bitter edge, than the "fictional" stories that precede them, they are a tantalising glimpse of the memoir Munro fans would swoon for, should she choose to write it. The first indeed – but let's hope she changes her mind and makes them not the last.

I haven't yet introduced the Walker children after I mentioned them in my Vivien facts post so allow me to do just that! As a Hyur and Miqo'te couple, neither Kaian nor Vivien anticipated having children, let alone THREE!

Eulalie is the eldest daughter of Vivien and Kaian. Following in her father's footsteps, she is an incredibly talented inventor although chose to persue becoming a machinist versus a gunbreaker like her father. Eula presents as very shy and timid around strangers but she is exceptionally excitable around loved ones. She crafts her own weaponry in Kaian's workshop and has a nearly abnormal love for firearms; each gun in her collection has been affectionately bestowed with a nickname. During combat, she mostly acts as a sniper while employing a mech modeled after a Stubby she saw doodled in Kaian's journal.
Julien is the middle child of the Walker family and can often be difficult to get to know, let alone read. Despite looking so much like his father, the two share a complicated relationship. With Kaian so frequently gone due to his status of Warrior of Light, Julien grew to resent his father and began focusing much of his time into training to become a dark knight in an effort to surpass his father in battle. Despite his hostility towards Kaian, Julien is incredibly close and protective of his mother and sisters, particularly Rosalie. He and Rose are notorious for dragging Eulalie into trouble. He will often take shots at his father in combat to see if he can land a hit and is always unsuccessful.
Rosalie is the youngest of the Walker children and is just as vibrant as her name would imply. Much more outgoing than her elder siblings, Rose thrives in the attention from being the daughter of both the Warrior of Light and the Maiden, as well as being a child of nobility. She oftentimes joins Vivien for House Valentine duties and enjoys being as involved as possible. Deeply inspired by her mother's birthright and starskin, she dreamed of mastering astromancy but could not quite grasp the art and thus is training to become a sage.
