Ok I have finally finished hanukkah shopping for my children and this is where I landed:

Alice:

mini food gift set

fanny pack that will fit a book and a ton of decals she can use to decorate it

babysitters club graphic novels

squishmallow that she saw at the walgreens one night when we were killing time after chinese food

board game that adam picked out

Joe:

target cash register shopping set (capitalism!)

magnatile cars

mighty mighty construction site and the pigeon needs a bath

I think this is pretty good? Alice is easy bc she likes lots of fun stuff but she's hard bc none of it is much of a "showstopper" kind of gift, but I feel good where we landed. I have a few things left to order but I'm going to swing by the bookstore ont he way home to see if I can get the books there instead of ordering them. I was only going to do 4 gifts each but it felt like it didn't match so I added the books for joe and the fanny pack for alice.

#fray.txt #the only time i ever visited ireland #there was this old man sitting on this worn down chair in the middle of a street full of little stores #he greeted us enthusiastically and asked if we were english as we were coming the way of the ferry #he said he hopes we like ireland and have a good time - he was so kind and friendly #i grew up thinking going to ireland would get me yelled at and cussed at and i would be hated #but despite everything between our countries - everyone i met was so welcoming #ireland is a lovely place. i think everyone should visit #i realise it sounds odd to not assume we were welsh. i just assumed we looked very english LMAO

i'm trying to make a small zine on aro culture and feelings, do you have any podcast, essays, pdfs, drives, textposts, poetry, art, anything on aro culture that i can be using? you can also say what things you consider to have impacted the aro community and some philosophies you believe to belong in it(for example i've gotten some texts on "the aro agenda", on the breakdown over what love is and personal desires rather than societal pressure) thank you for the time

i'm so sorry this has been sitting since january, but tbh i rarely have the energy to do these sorts of discussions without very particular prompts. i think it could be useful for folks looking for materials like this to scroll through archives, and maybe use analysis tools to check for the posts in the aro community with the most notes (i recall a small assortment have been created and posted about over the years). it could also be helpful to look at historical resources - such as the original conversation around the term aromantic from AVEN's forums, as well as resources and news from AUREA (aromanticism.org).

It’s performance evaluation/raise time at work—everyone is rated on a scale of 1-5 and all that.

…but absolutely no one is allowed a 5, per the ops manager!

In fact, my boss was called earlier and the ops manager said she was too “generous” in the ratings she gave out and she needed to adjust those ratings lower. Just say you don’t want to give anyone a raise.

finally got my hands on fjord comic. all blorbos have been obtained. mighty nein reunited (on my shelf)

#sorry im about to inform everyone about this #because at first i was sure there was no way we have any of cr comics in our shops #but then i was wandering through one next to my uni and there was EVERY SINGLE ONE except fjord #and the assistant guy had no idea when they'd restock if they even would #also this shop has like. a site. but the updates here are not usually even relevant #so checking it was kinda useless. but i did anyway and today i saw molly comic got restocked #(this one had also been sold out kinda fast. belgrade molly enjoyers where are you all!!)#so i thought if i visited that store again it wouldn't hurt. either way i like sightseeing. sightseeing bookstores.#and my guy fjord my good friend fjord WAS THERE ! i have never grabbed a book this fast #i've been waiting for him for four months. all well that ends well

Apparently I timed my quitting perfectly

#work tag #the new manager is absolutely awful and since hes taken over nothings been done properly #the managers that are left are sick of everything they barely do anything on shift the slackers are worse than ever #the newbies dont take anything seriously or have any common sense whatsoever so its just completely downhill #we had an EHO visit last week on the boss' close had lost a star on our rating as a result so the area manager came in a couple days later #he bollocked our boss for the way hes been acting but then he went right back to being a prick #so apparently after i left last night the district manager visited and they had to shut the store early for cleaning #but this was after my manager told me that the boss has been blaming everyone for the state of things but #when they offered to close the store and do a deep clean he refused because of money #the district manager was not happy he pulled both managers aside and now theyre gonna have to close the store for a deep clean #but they might also have to shut down temporarily to get everything sorted but the thing is since this new guy took over only about #half of the closing cleaning tasks have been being done because close is usually made up of the slackers and they just dont wanna do #anything properly its been an ongoing issue for months now and now its catching up with them cus theyve got in the habit of not doing it #one of my managers has kept saying he doesnt think the store will last until Christmas but everyone else is sure were gonna be shut #well before that point like its gotten the bad its part of why i quit #anyway i just got the rundown from my coworker who was on close when this all went down last night

First gourd (and radish) I carved in my life 31 October 2019

#the drawing I class i was in in undergrad had a pumpkin carving day that year #i decided to be rebellious and buy a pumpkin to carve for the first time but when i went to the store there were no more pumpkins :')#so i got a gourd and a little skeleton for inside caude i wanted a scene #it was the first time i had carved anything for Halloween ever and i remember feeling so sinful at the time #there was this one person Maddie who was also giving tarot card readings and they were one of my major events(?) to realize i was gay #i didnt get a reading from them cause i was scared that was going too far and I would be too far gone messing with the 'occult'#and they made me nervous but i wanted more and couldnt figure out why (i chalked it up to them being 'cool' and wanting to be their friend)#anyways maddie gave me the radish cause they also didnt bring a pumpkin and had two radishes (cause they were buy 1 get 1) from Winn Dixie #i still think about maddie now and we talk sporadically i told them if they're ever in Chicago to come and visit me but they live in Canada #their art inspires me and i believe they could design a fantasy game or novel because of their work (i own a weird little dog of theirs)#i never mentioned anything to them at the time about being infatuated with them in class and i doubt i would now bc our life goals dont mesh #but i consider them to play a important role in my life and i appreciated the radish and wish i got the readings done #its wild how much growth can happen in just a few years -- i bought a mini pumpkin in September because i wanted to celebrate early #back then when i got home the gourd and radish was forcibly thrown away (and i didn't dare tell of my encounters in class with the lesbian!)#(i hold that memory in my heart & think of it fondly cause i hadnt realized yet i have much compassion for younger me who was never sinful)#now in grad school there is a new Maddie 🍈 who told me she didnt know why she keeps looking at my face in class and i think i know why #but she has yet to get there <3

becoming a data hoarder of crochet/knitting/sewing/embroidery patterns and books on my pc, laptop and phone. an ungodly amount fr.

#also finding good patterns for like 2 dollars at thrift stores and getting books out from the library has been VERY helpful #and so many have maker spaces #where you can sew/weave/embroider/whatever #the one at my local library is mega cool #cos the council realized the suburb next to mine (mine is too small to have a village center like the others so theirs is ours)#had been promised a new mall makeover and a new pool and a new bunch of stuff #and hadnt been given anything in like. decades.#and is also a suburb where a lot of working class and low income families live #so they went ''okay we should. do something and actually support this section''#and thats how we got our new million dollar suburb center building with a new library/cafe/preschool/pool/maker space #and suddenly people have a reason to stay in the area and spend more time at shops and have a study space #available right next to a park and a place for community and information!!!#and everyone is happier and spending more money at the surrounding shops because theyre visiting more often #like that whole project took 2 years but it was so worth it the maker space rules its got a recording booth and a 3dprintet and an engraver #a loom and all these other woodcraft/textile stuff #and i see teenagers from the 3 surrounding schools coming in to record music and/or rent out instruments!#and do carving and sewing and book clubs!!#and have a place to study!#when i was in hs we would walk down to the mall get sushi and sit in a field bcos there was nothing to do #now people from the same high school i have can access all this stuff!#and more online to print out #and partake in healthy hobbies and its like fuck!!! it makes me so happy!!!#all this to say if anyone wants a pattern for smth i can probs find a free one/one costing a few dollars by an indie creator
