Funkadelic's Greatest Hits (April 6, 2013)
Acquired: From the collection of my roommate, Charlie.
Reasoning: Dude has been bumping this record for over a year now. It's been a house go-to for whenever there is guests or it's a beautiful morning.
Who: Funkadelic. Led by George Clinton, this is a musical collective with NUMEROUS amounts of associated musicians.
What: A collection of the greatest hits up to 1975. This record was released as Funkadelic signed on with Warner Bros.
Where: 90% of these songs were recorded in Detroit. This record is basically a collection of the band's material recorded for 'Westbound Records'. Westbound is now 20th Century Records.
When: This collection was recorded between 1968 and 1975.
Why: This collection was made to showcase the recordings done in Detroit for Westbound Records before the band signed to a major label.
The Weird:
This record never saw a CD Release and only exists on vinyl, making it a hard find.
Funkadelic consisted of a lot of different musicians, but more interesting, a synergy of many different bands. Funkadelic is most commonly referred to as 'Parliament Funkadelic' taking on the name of it's sister band Parliament.
Most of this material was written without teen prodigy guitarist, Michael Hampton, who was a major contributor to Funkadelic's sound.
