Okay so... I totally forgot about Mario Day but it’s fine because I was unintentionally celebrating it by trying to finish M&L: Paper Jam (where I got rekt by one of the Koopalings in the final series of fights before I could even reach Bowser x2). Then after that, the official LIS Facebook page reminded me of Chloe’s birthday. And then today is Marie Day in the Splatoon fandom. Four days in a row of video-game-character-related holidays, except for March 12. Does anything happen on March 12?
10th - Mario Day
11th - Chloe Price’s birthday
12th - ???????
13th - Marie Day
...and then there’s Pi Day but who cares about a bunch of dumb old circles. The point is, we need to find a video game thing to celebrate on March 12th. Gotta figure it out by next year!!!

Random idea:
~ A Don Bluth-inspired platform-adventure Metroidvania video game ~
The game’s visuals and character designs are heavily influenced by his style, and the worlds sprawl throughout as the journey gets more inquisitive and weird. The tone is mostly lighthearted and energetic, but not afraid to sway off into some heavy or frantic situations as the game progresses.
You play as a young albino squirrel named Amelia, who sets out to retrieve the lost crystal and restore its waning power to her world. Along the way she stumbles upon some colorful personalities, friends and foes alike.
This is just a small spur of the moment. It just came to me after binge-watching more Bluth stuff… as usual.

Magnus’ Hair Braids
Thinking about the bit in A Thousand Sons where it mentions Magnus had his hair pulled back into three braids for his appearance at Nikaea. Thinking about how this differs from his appearance any other time, and what that means.
Like, the other big event he attends in A Thousand Sons is the Triumph of Ullanor, and even for that huge big deal party the book doesn’t mention him getting his hair dolled up. And he doesn’t pull it back out of the way for battle or anything like that. (Probably it just magically doesn’t get in the way, I guess.)
Plus, besides the books, official art always depicts him with his hair out, flowing free from behind his, you know the face-helmet thing, what’s the proper word for it, I dunno. So in this context it stands out to me that he had his hair braided for Nikaea.
In the book, it sort of sets up this idea that Magnus is expecting Nikaea to be something like a scholarly conference, not a court trial. But even so, he would have known there were going to be people with some Strong Opinions about him and his embrace of psychic abilities and the power of the Great Ocean, etc etc
So I’m thinking about his braided hair as a symbolic gesture of sorts. Whereas usually he just goes around being unabashedly himself, in this case he is kind of making a show of restraint. It’s like the opposite of a threat display, but it’s not an act of submission. It’s more like when you hunker down to talk to a small animal that is scared of you.
Magnus is trying to reach out to an audience that is at best wary and in many cases hostile. He knows people are afraid of him. He can’t stop being himself but he can contain his silhouette so that he seems less wild and unpredictable. It’s a visual indicator of control and therefore safety. “See? I’m okay really.”

I was reading @bogleech‘s pokemon reviews a while ago, and decided to take a quick stab at redesigning Loop-dee-doop. I don’t think this is perfect by any means, but I had fun playing up the “anubis” angle, and trying to reinforce the parts of his design that I think justify a bit the Steel typing.
Hence, the “dreads” go over the chest too to give a bit of the look of Anubis’ headdress, and I turned some of the “stripes” into metal bangles.
I did not keep Luperoo’s jorts, because I am a coward, but I did keep the sickle shape at the tip of his tail, just turning it into a blade because I thought it made sense. I also tried to give his jaws a more canine-like appearance, but since this was a quick and dirty project it honestly could use further revisions :P

Happy heckin’ LIS week. I’ll just be cosplaying Chloe “With a Gun” Price in Spla2n all week. I might even finally play the prequel/sequel if I can tear myself away from the splats long enough. I checked the calendar and the next time October 7th is a Monday is 2024 so if I can’t get around to it this week, watch me completely ignore the LIS fandom for 5 years straight before playing those games.
