It has been a while since I have done an ‘On this day’ post. It has been a roller-coaster couple of months. I quit my job, road tripped around Eastern Australia and moved to Brisbane. I am still not settled but I feel it is time to start posting again. On this day in 2000, one of the best games of all time was released for the Nintendo 64 in Australia, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. This game had a huge influence on me personally and was the moment I started taking video games and video game development more seriously. It was after playing this game I starting conducting research how video games, console manufacturers, game developers, and publishers had shaped the industry; the highs, lows and everything in between. Majora’s Mask introduced an interesting mechanic that made the world feel alive. Many games past and present feel like the world does not exist until you enter the scene. Without your presence the Non-player characters (NPCs) are set to pause, waiting for you, the player, to enter the room. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask developers created a world that lived even without your influence. NPCs live out their lives, do chores, complete tasks and quests. You, the player, as Link can alter their daily lives by interacting with them, completing missions for the NPCs and reconnecting relationships. The world, Termina, is complex, compelling and interactive. Following the daily lives of the NPCs became an addiction to me. In particular one of the most complex side quests, Anju’s Anguish was practically intriguing. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is playable on the Nintendo 3DS/2DS and also on the Nintendo 64. I highly recommend this game. #thisdayingaming#onthisdaygaming #todayingaming#videogamehistory #videogames #Nintendo #Nintendo64 #N64 #VideoGamePort #Nintendo3DS #3DS #Thelegendofzelda #thelegendofzeldamajorasmask #thelegendofzeldamajorasmask3D #videogameremake #videogameremaster #videogameremake #zelda #link #majorasmask

This news comes after a period of pre-production and signifies a significant step forward in bringing these classic neo-noir titles back to life for a modern audience. Max Payne Returns However, the announcement also comes with a tempered expectation regarding the release date. With production slated to begin in the coming months, gamers can realistically expect a wait of at least a couple of years before they can revisit the dark and gritty world of Max Payne. Unveiling the Big Picture: Development Timeline and Budget The conference call also shed light on the development process and budget for the Max Payne remakes. While the exact duration remains unconfirmed, Remedy hinted at a pre-production stage that could have lasted up to three to four years, coupled with a typical development period of at least two years. Players who might not have had the chance to play the originals back in the day can now delve into the dark and atmospheric world of Max Payne with a fresh perspective. Looking Ahead: What to Expect in the Coming Months With production set to begin in the summer of 2024, fans can expect a period of relative quiet regarding the Max Payne remakes. However, as development progresses, Remedy might start releasing teasers, concept art, or even gameplay snippets to keep fans engaged. Here are some possibilities to keep an eye on: Official Announcements: Remedy might utilize its social media channels or official website to make announcements about development milestones or share concept art that offers a glimpse into the visual direction of the remakes. Gaming Events: Major gaming conventions like E3 or Gamescom could be a platform for Remedy to showcase the Max Payne remakes through trailers or gameplay demos. Developer Interviews: Interviews with key developers at Remedy could shed light on the design philosophy behind the remakes and offer insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by this project. FAQs Q: When will the Max Payne remakes be released? A: While an official release date hasn't been announced, Remedy's production timeline suggests a launch sometime in late 2026 or beyond. Q: What platforms will the Max Payne remakes be available on? A: No official confirmation exists yet regarding platforms. However, considering the AAA budget and Remedy's recent projects, it's safe to assume the remakes will target current-gen consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a potential PC release as well. Q: What prompted Remedy Entertainment to announce the Max Payne remakes? A: The announcement was made during a conference call on financial results, following Tencent's acquisition of a significant stake in Remedy Entertainment. Q: How does the budget for the Max Payne remakes compare to other projects? A: The remakes will receive the same level of investment as Alan Wake 2, signaling Remedy's commitment to delivering AAA-quality gaming experiences. Q: Why is there a delay between the announcement and the start of development? A: Game development typically involves extensive pre-production phases, which can last up to three to four years before actual development begins. The remedy is adhering to industry standards in this regard.
