im rereading the gigantomachia arc right now and god this arc really shows how much yoo jonghyuk has grown from the first time we meet him. in the beginning he was cruel and efficient - he did not care about human life besides his companions and did not hesitate to kill anyone he deemed a risk. now we see him fighting so hard to save lee sookyoung and i have to wonder when her life became worth saving to him. they dont even really like each other at all but you can feel his desperation and urgency in trying to find something to heal her and i wonder if he wants to save her because she is kim dokja's mother or because she's become such an integral part of the company or if they did manage to find some common ground in those three years kim dokja was away. however you interpret the reason besides his desire to save her its clear its not something he could have felt prior to kim dokja and godddddd does it hurt

it always felt somewhat strange to me that kim dokja had a crush on lee jihye of all characters, though i suppose you could just chalk it up to her being the only female character his age (at the time). this passage kinda makes me understand it more though. maybe kim dokja had a crush on her because he also wanted to be like yoo jonghyuk, and she got to be the badass sword wielding disciple he would obviously think was cool as hell.
