— 11/28/2022 7:00PM — Today went by kind of quick, despite it having a slow start. Mostly inventory work today, but got to work on some stuff for Pokémon League. (I still want to print my Hawlucha v Rowlet mat for it, but man, inkedgaming raised their pricing and I'm broooooke.) The weirdest thing was us receiving a literal free card from "Spam Department". My coworker & I could not stop talking about it after a while. Wild stuff.

Merlin BattleCards, anyone? — 11/28/2022 10:00PM — Had some Waba Grill. It's been a while, but man… something about it just doesn't hit anymore. Resupplied on some sweet goodies, y'know. I've realized it's just easier falling asleep with some help. So I try to keep a handful at all times. I managed to get a little P5R time in, but I wasn't feeling a long session. Swapped over to DBZ: Kakarot on my Steam Deck. And man. I love how good this games particle effects look. So much sparkle and shiny. I also love how much of a sponge most of the bosses become after a while. I've spent so much time doing side quests and collecting orbs 'n shit. I thought I'd be far more outleveled by now. 24 hours in and only like level fuckin' 75. Like, did I cuck myself that bad by grinding out mobs?? It's wack, yo. I jumped over to the first DLC to farm EXP items to see if I can cheese more of the game. Coz literally outside of battles, you end up like 2-shotting everything else in the game at this point. With SSG, I should be able to push through the main story faster. I'm just starting the Majin arc, so I'd imagine the game was originally up to level 100? I really don't know what happens after Buu but before the DLCs lmao. Either way, it's so much fun to play. Even if it's just every DBZ game I've ever played smashed into one. But with way cooler graphics. I fucking love it.

Despite having control over this world, those petty thieves threatened to rebel against me again unless I set up this god awful tumblr blog, among other things. I believe it was that vulgar yellow-headed boy’s idea? Regardless, here I am, ask me whatever your feeble minds can think of, and I’ll answer. Maybe.

The P5R Dilemma

I’ve already planned for the P5 fic in Individuation. I’m very, v e r y excited to put my own spin on the game that got me into the Persona series in the first place. I have a ton of fun ideas for plots and relationships and little changes to accommodate the changes I’ve made to the Persona universe already.

That being said, I’m going to act like P5R doesn’t fucking exist. I know I shouldn’t judge the add on content from one trailer, but I’m not very impressed. The new party member seems almost Mary Sue-ish in appearance and in the way it seems like they’ll put her into the plot, and the new Confidant makes me a little uncomfortable. Below I’ll write my thoughts a little more concisely.

Regarding the new party member:

I think she’s a little forced, to be honest. Her design is really cute and I was excited for a new side character that wouldn’t be so into the PTs, but I don’t like the idea of her being a party member. From what we saw in the trailer, she was also a victim of Kamoshida’s, and she disapproves of the PTs, but we already have three party members that fit those criteria: Ann and Ryuji suffered under Kamoshida’s physical and sexual abuse, and Makoto initially was trying to blackmail the PTs. I honestly think they added her so the game would have an LI that calls the protag “Senpai.”

Plus, where would she even join the party? It can’t be in the Kamoshida palace, which would be the most logical place for a victim of his abuse to come in, because she doesn’t like the PTs and they aren’t established until after Kamoshida. Madarame, Futaba, and Okumura’s palaces are all very personal to other PTs, Kaneshiro’s palace already has a reluctant civilian becoming a PT, Sae’s palace is already too story heavy for another addition, and Shido and Mementos are wayyyyy too late-game for an addition. And if an entirely new palace has to be created for her, it will mess up the flow of the story. I just don’t see how they can organically fit her into the PTs.

So, no, ribbon girl will not be a new party member in Individuation’s rendition of the events of P5. There will be another party member, though: one I’ve planned for and researched for and am very excited to introduce.

Regarding the new Confidant:

One of ve major themes of P5 is how kids have to rely on each other. The only adult Confidants are also on the fringes, are also outcasts. None of them are affiliated with establishments that serve to oppress the main cast. So a guidance counselor feels out of place to me.

In the trailer, we see Ann talking to him about a fear that she’s being stalked. This isn’t in character for Ann to me. She doesn’t trust adults, especially adult men. She gets along fine with Sojiro, but only because the other PTs are always around when they interact. I just don’t see Ann, who was a victim of sexual harassment from a man who she should have been able to trust, opening up to another man in a position of power over her. Of course, this could be an act, like with Yusuke, but her voice sounded sincere.

There’s also the fact that he doesn’t fit thematically. Every other adult the PTs are connected to have been shunned by society. Sojiro runs a shitty coffee shop in an alley, Takemi is a back alley doctor, Kawakami is being blackmailed, etc. But a school counselor isn’t really someone I can picture deviating from the norm. They literally exist to steer kids in a certain direction. And I don’t see Shujin as the kind of establishment that would keep someone who could direct kids away from their ideal in their employ.

Plus, I don’t think the protag would even go to a counselor at Shujin. Kawakami wouldn’t make him (before her Confidant, she would be apathetic towards him, and after she would never make him take time out of his day for something like that), and he wouldn’t go by himself because he’s too busy. So I really don’t see how a guidance counselor would fit as a Confidant here. So, long story short, the school counselor will not appear as a supporting character in Individuation.

I’m sorry if any of y’all were really looking forward to these two characters, but I’ve already got so much planned that I don’t feel comfortable sticking them in. Maybe ribbon girl can be a cameo in another part or something. They just don’t fit into the story I’m trying to tell, so I’m not gonna try.

it's no secret that futaba prefers her quiet time. days in leblanc like this are peaceful, especially on busier weekdays in the rest of the world, when there are no customers later in the day. various members of the phantom thieves essentially having the place all to themselves is a common occurrence, and she's thankful for the company of a friend. that said, she's on her fourth cup of coffee, and she has notoriously terrible self control when it comes to sojiro's recipes. whether it's him or akira behind the counter preparing them, they both make things just the way she likes it.

" i see that look in your eye, mister ! " she briefly points an accusatory finger at akira before her hand returns to her mug. " i'm fine ! i'll have my sugar crash at the perfect time, and then i'll sleep for a while. it's my usual routine. " the objectionable healthiness of such a routine is completely ignored, of course. " once you close up shop, do you wanna play power intuition ? i've been practicing my combo skills, and i wanna see if i'm good enough to finally kick your butt. " her playful challenge is accompanied by her trademark mischievous tone, her competitive nature knowing few limitations.

" i- i, uhm... " did he just know she's a gamer ? is it that easy to tell... ? maybe the tetris blocks on her tank top aren't doing her any favors, in retrospect. " i've been playing this one game where you play as a white wolf, and you use a paintbrush to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and a whole bunch of other stuff. there's this artist guy that calls you ' furball ' a whole lot, but he ends up being kinda cool by the end. " she pauses. " it might be a little hard to find a copy nowadays, though; i just got lucky at a secondhand store. "

after having a casual lunch at bikkuri boy in another excursion to help futaba overcome her social anxiety, she leaves the table after helping pay the tab. however, futaba's attention is immediately captured by the sound of music coming from the arcade; it's music she instantly recognizes. " ann ! i think the ddr machine in here added a few risette songs ! " she beckons her friend to follow her, the sleeves of her jacket making a subtle swish noise as they move with her gesture. " c'mon, i'll even pay for the first dance ! " oracle offers, already taking out the required yen in coins to put into the machine. " ooh, they've got a muses song, too !? i didn't think their music was still popular ! "
