"Sana studied Hokushin Ittō ryū at a young age along with her siblings. She had a great interest in bujutsu as she learned many things, such as kenjutsu. It is recorded that Sana was exceptionally skilled in using the kodachi (short sword), that she received menkyo kaiden (mastery level) in kodachijutsu at the age of fourteen. Her older sister taught her naginatajutsu, which was quite renowned due to Sadakichi’s efforts in developing it.

When Sana was 19, she went to Uwajima Domain as a kenjutsu instructor for the Date family to train their daughter named Masako (政子姫). During her time there, she had a sparring match with the soon-to-be 9th domain head, Date Mune’e (age 27), and was able to win against him. "

Gyuki owns the mountain ranch & Gozu is the guy who's gonna take over once he retires. Mezu wears a normal bull's skull over his head he's in charge of handling the cattle

I'm not gonna make this canon timeline compliant because Gozu and Mezu would still be small children in 1800 if they look 13 in 2010 and that's not what I'm here for boy

Trying to decide if Negoro and Uwajima should be bulls or horses. They're bull yokai (Gyuki 牛鬼 is literally Cow Demon) but Mezu is horse-head (馬頭) and it'd be Funny if they were horses instead of cows. I'll think about it. Either way they're Mezu's buddies & he and Gozu ride off into the night on them

I have old art about this from February 2021 I should dig out and redraw. I gave Gozu a gun

I really love how your blog is like an ongoing journal of the things you love in real time. I haven't watched a lot of kdramas (i watch jdoramas more, mostly for language immersion) but your posts on EAW with your thoughts and musings are making me want to check it out. Do you have any kdrama and jdrama recommendations that you'd totally like everyone to check out? I really get a very warm and wholesome vibe from your blog, so thought of asking. Thanks in anticipation! (◍•ᴗ•◍)

Oh my goodness, thanks for the compliments! In terms of dramas, I do tend to watch shows that feature food (ha), and Kinou Nani Tabeta really tops the list for me. And Old Fashion Cupcake just hit right as well. Both of these dramas hit an emotional balance for me that I still carry with me.

Other food shows that I love: Midnight Diner and Kodoku no Gurume are so great. The Let’s Eat series from South Korea was also amazing, and I hope they continue it.

Off the top of my head, other dramas that I keep coming back to:

Okaeri Mone — it’s a time investment, but I learned a tremendous amount about a bunch of topics, and the acting was stellar

Crash Landing on You — somehow, I feel like this show became Kdrama canon for acting and cinematography

To Heal the Heart — I followed this show on NHK World, hopefully you get this channel, but it’s about a psychiatrist working in Kyoto after the 1995 earthquake, and the awareness of mental health that he brought to Japan. Emoto Tasuku seriously kills his role, it’s a beautiful show.

XX (Blue Moon) — this was a super cute web series with Hani and Bae In-hyuk about a fancy cocktail bar. It’s on Viki and I highly recommend for a quick and satisfying watch about friendship and relationships.

Tokyo Vice — I LOVED IT. Yes, there are feelings about Ansel Elgort out there, but the Japanese actors SLAYED their roles. Kasamatsu Sho! Amazing.

Life (Love on the Line) on Viki, the movie “His,” Where Your Eyes Linger — great BL content, all very satisfying. Miyazawa Hio in “His” is incredible.

I’m sure there are more, but those are the ones off the top of my uncaffeinated brain this morning. I hope you enjoy these recs! 💖

EDITED TO ADD BECAUSE I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT THIS ONE: If you’re able to find it out there, Wakako Zake is AMAZING. It’s the female version of Kodoku no Gurume -- a single female office worker hits the town to get amazing drinks and snacks. You learn so much about sake and shochu. I’d never heard of kawahagi and Uwajima tai meshi before, but now I have! Also, Takeda Rina is the best and the cutest. Highly recommend!
