i really want to talk about how much i fucking hate the new trend of using projections for EVERY FUCKING SET PEICE in shows lately!!!
#if utilized sparingly (and well of course) it works awesome!#but its like every single time i see a new show the backgrounds are so totally projected and the set dressing is minimal and i HATE IT#i miss going in to see a show and the whole stage just feels immersive!#the introcate details! the multi-levels! having a whole new location just behind what you thought was the back!#i wish projected sets a very happy go away

#the mentalist#locations#props#tm 3x09#simon utilizes a lot of motion and i really like it#swinging upwards and outwards. panning out or around from a straight-on to an angled shot#theres a lot of visual interest and creativity in the episodes he directs#but not so much that youre distracted from the actual episode#it just kind of enriches the action and gives it ~texture#rather than. like. a bunch of talking heads and then a few wide shots#i think tm is actually a very pretty show but simon definitely got more creative with the cinnamontography

So I now have all five NPCs successfully implemented. I need to give them all custom dialogue and a range of things that they'll say and then I'll be at the point where I'm ready to start actually making quests, which is pretty cool!
After that comes the really hard part, though, which is the part where I figure out how to add custom models into the game. I want to give them customized outfits and stuff, but tutorials about this are not really geared towards beginners.
Oh yeah and I think I know how to get rid of the ks hairdos dependency, but I need to do a little more research about that before I start messing about with it.
But the absolute next step is to figure out why Corunir absolutely refuses to use any combat build except constant shieldbashing supplemented by a healing spell.
#rangercamp#i increased shieldbashing priority by 2%... and this is what happens#he will not even touch his sword. he doesnt even have it equipped most of the time#oh yeah i also need to take all of candaiths junk out of corunirs inventory too#b/c corunir is just a copy of candaith with his name and appearance and fighting style and voicetype and class and skills and spells#*deep breath* and perks and clothes and id and location and relationships changed#but the only thing i did with his inventory is add the shield#anyhow my hope is to have a basic setup with the five followers and a basic radiant quest to 'unlock' them as followers#utilizing the classic 'do one (1) quest for me and ill literally die for you' skyrim setup#and at that point. like. its not DONE i have other things ill work towards#but if everything works right that would be version 1.0#which i mean i know ive been working on this for 10 months but its still wild to me that im this far along

i had to go digging for it but anon is referring to an old ask game post
that tag was more of a general anything-goes for aruna asks but rolling up sleeves alright let's tackle arguably one of the most difficult (delighted)
it's tricky because as a mobian, this guy is ~15+ years out of context, and 13 of those years were spent under circumstances that left him empty and just trying to survive (again, but worse). even in a kinder setting now with a new community and support system, he doesn't really act out of love so much as habitual responsibility.
he cares for the settlement he's taken up residence in and the people in it, and certainly some of that care is more personal on an individual level than others, but he doesn't view it as "love". he does those things because that's just what you're supposed to do? it's the same as how he'd act in his capacity as black doom way back when with his hive, just with slightly more emotional distance. a lot of what he does is ultimately still self-serving.
he helps build up this settlement and the people in it not because he wants to see it specifically succeed, or see them thrive, but because he lives there. but he's also not doing it just because he lives there and wants a safe place to live/for the people to feel compelled to treat him well. and while that's definitely how it started--he had to learn new etiquette rules and such to fit in and be more generally likeable enough for them to accept him--he still lacks a certain emotional investment in them.
like, yeah, it's love in the most basic sense, but it's hard to articulate why it's also not? they're his people now, in a sense, and he knows he belongs there, and recognizes when they show him love, but for his part he's just operating normally. he can't just be a freeloader or treat them like he's their leader instead. that's not how things work here. and besides, he'd go crazy without anything to do anyway. so like i said; most of what he does is still self-serving at its core. he just balances that and acts in such a way that it benefits more than just himself.
he lacks empathy and is selfish, but not in a way that damages others--and ensuring he keeps that balance is deliberate for the sake of staying in people's good graces. it is the literal definition of manipulative, but he's not doing it out of malice (anymore). he just wants to raise his chance of survival. he has nothing to live for but himself and the memory of his people.
in the present, if you shove all of that aside, and squint really hard past his barrier of invulnerability and neutrality, he shows it to specific individuals the most in what he lets them get away with. he hates being touched. is not very gentle or soft or kind in how he speaks. but he can be patient, and affords people close to him (especially children) some of his learned softness. he lets these chosen people hold his hand (even if he doesn't understand why) or hug him for their own sake (even if he's not particularly keen on the idea) or talks them down from anxiety or an upset (even if he is so, so bad at empathy and lacks the type of experiences that would help him navigate delicate situations).
back when he was still just regular black doom with a hive is different, though. i should preface this with the fact i write the black arms, especially in the context of aruna's hive, very differently from canon; they were all individuals with their own culture, and the hivemind was more of a shared telepathy ability rather than ant-like.
he was not overly-affectionate or outwardly sentimental, but he loved them all dearly in his own way, and it showed in subtleties. he was their leader, yes but they were everything to him. he would forego meals if it meant feeding a youngling instead. wore rings of the fallen and cycled them out with the most recently-lost to honor their memory. allowed younglings to get a bit clingy even though he hated being touched even back then. helped raise a lot of them, mourned the loss of the adults with the culture-appropriate equivalent of funeral, never forgot a single one of them, kept their stories alive until he no longer could.
all he has left are scraps and a monument the present-day settlement helped build. but he respects the settlement and acknowledges himself as one of theirs enough to integrate some of their funeral rites with his own due to being unable to put what remains of his kind to rest in the way he normally would.

God. If I wasn't dealing with shit rn I'd think about offering commissions bc my buddy and I finally found a place to rent and we need the funds. But unfortunately that's probably not an option.
#need money for it sooo bad. it's like $4200 upfront and then $1850 + utilities per month#which means it's roughly 1k per person per month#we can scrape together the upfront rn but it'll fuck us both over real bad for a while#bc we don't have jobs in the area and probably aren't gonna find any right away (been looking)#but if we don't do it NOW (aka the landlady wants us to give her money and paperwork on Jan 1st lmao) then we're fucked#not gonna find anything better for cheaper#it's shit but I'll take a shitty place rn as a start. yeah i forgot to colour the white lace on the top of the collar but that's what happens when i go all out, a little wacky and crazy even...
#art redirect post#go go go!!#im still not asleep yet but i did an overnight intensive work session for most of this all in one go and im very proud#the concept is early 2000s glb/mmm/mana inspired elegant gothic lolita#and a blend of butler and maid fashion split down the middle in different asymmetrical locations#its a butterfly pea tea time theme hence the clock hands#and the pocketwatch#and the butterfly pea tea slipping from the cup and the classic mmm bright blue#the ringlets were a nightmare at first but i got really used to drawing them and now theyre the best part#like art wise#obviously i didnt go ham on shading for the actual design for utility reasons but#i really elevated my concept here#i don't know if ill win this contest but this design became near and dear to my heart so fast#ill have to get back to work tomorrow on even more stuff but for now#im glad i did what i did#kinda ate here honestly#really feeling like a 'real designer' even if it doesnt look like it yet#fashion design#gothic lolita

some things I noticed in the new totk trailer that I haven't seen talked about
I'm pretty sure that's going to be gleeok or some type of new spelling of the classic boss. I also suspect that it will either be a over world boss like hinoxes are, or it's going to be a specialty type of boss connected to specific quests, main or side. One hope I have is for elemental varieties of it as I think that could pose a really fun challenge.
I think it's likely that part of Death Mountain is going to break off, allowing us to enter into the depths of the volcano and perhaps even find a temple or whatever the equivalent will be for temples. Either that or a very large cave system that has possible story connections, as we do see in other parts of the trailer where it appears that Death Mountain is now spewing malice (as can be seen in the earlier picture of gleerok.)
So like, I can't take a picture of sound, but early in the trailer during this segment it clearly sounds like they're in some form of echoing chamber as the bokoblin hits the ore; which leads me to suspect that this particular area may be a segment of the underneath of Hyrule that we will get to explore.
And redeads have returned! They seem to be modelled after the ones found in oot, but I would also love to see some variants around Hyrule, like frozen ones that leave you in ice once they let go, or ones that constantly on fire in the hotter areas of Death Mountain. I'd also think it'd be fun if we could have a side quest that allows us to find a "secret chamber" hidden within the Kakariko village cemetery.
extra speculations under the cut
Some things I speculate:
That at some point, you as Link will trigger separate story events that causes the labyrinths to rise into the sky, probably in relation to quests to unlock new abilities not directly related to the master sword (like the champion's abilities for example.)
I suspect that we will restore the master sword like we do in past games, either with a sacred flame from each of the springs like in ss (the most likely case,) or uncovering lost ancient temples and inserting the sword into an alter like in ww.
Weapon restoration. Although maybe that's more of a hope. I also would like the option to be able to purchase weapons from merchants, not just arrows.
I also suspect, that like ss, Link is going to be chasing after Zelda for a portion of the game, probably after their fall. Although instead of being with Impa, that Zelda instead will be travelling with an avatar for the being we've seen in the cave carvings.
Purely speculation with no real evidence, but I suspect that green hand we see belonged to the previous hero who initially sealed up mummified Ganondorf.
More voice acting. It was pretty well received, and we now have heard Ganondorf (presumably, I saw someone on reddit suggest it may be Demise speaking in the trailer which would be quite fun tbh.) So I think it may be likely to see more cut scenes this time around with voice acting.
I. Want. Tingle. He would be perfect to add in now that there's sky travel, and perhaps like Majora's Mask, you need to buy map segments from him in order to expand your map of the sky.
