Prodigy headcannon: The Protostar launches on the same day Voyager got lost in the Delta Quadrant.
The first half of Prodigy S1 takes place in 2383 and the second half in 2384. When we first see Admiral Janeway, she's been searching for the Protostar for at least as long as the kids have had it since the Dauntless had tracked all three proto-jumps. Taking into account the fact it probably took a few weeks to begin the search and the Protostar probably didn't vanish for a few weeks, that puts the launch early in the year.
Due to reasons that have nothing to do with the show and everything to do with the fic I was gathering these dates for, I decided it couldn't launch before mid April. It had to be either the end of April or the beginning of May. But it wasn't until this morning that I realised this puts it right around the day that (according to the stardate calculator I use) Voyager got pulled into the Delta Quadrant. (Stardate 48307.5 if anyone's curious.)
I could totally see Starfleet picking this date because it was poetic. You know, sorta: "Twelve years ago today, Voyager began its journey through the Delta Quadrant, so it's fitting that today we send a new ship to continue exploring that region of space."

The U.S.S. Protostar is the best looking ship in the entire Star Trek franchise.
Change my mind.
