watching early s6 is so funny because you get to see how the uk views the us and it's so wrong.
#text#text post#doctor who#11th doctor#okay well not entirely wrong#the whole bit in impossible planet with the secret service is pretty on point#but what they completely miss is that they are in a Cold War America#this is 1969#the height of the space race#no fucking way are they gonna let a strange dude mess with their spaceship in their efforts to kick russia's ass#and furthermore#this was a time of massive paranoia and fear for the united states#this is when evangelism started to take hold of the u.s.#a spaceship appearing in the middle of the oval office during the space race?? are you out of your mind of course nixon is gonna seize that#us is fighting proxy wars with russia anyone unknown is a commie and russian and is not subject to human rights#i say this as an american who has grown up with the cold war overshadowing our nations worldview#this got very dark and very far away from me#this is in no way a criticism it's just something i think is cool to observe as someone not from the uk#it's honestly kind of refreshing to see my country being portrayed far differently then it is in the states
