I love giving human traits and personalities to the computers I use. I love thinking that when my laptop is downloading drivers for a new printer they're trying to make friends with each other and they're like introducing themselves like kids in preschool and stuff or when there's an error I imagine my laptop crying or feeling upset cause it can't do something or when it's looking for a new device I'm trying to connect I imagine it as if my laptop is running around the wifi with a little children binoculars trying to find it.

Mk is a Yaoguai

I came across some interesting information while I was researching another theory. The concept of a being not quite demon, human or celestial demon in Chinese mythology called a Yaoguai. The number of similarities MK shares with them is uncanny.

First of all, how Mk being refered to as the Harbringer of Chaos connects to him being a Yao:Within Chinese mytholgy, Yāo have a tendency to be "blamed for sudden outbreaks of confused and erratic action, or transgressive behaviour" with there literally being a Chinese saying saying that goes"when affairs go awry, there must have been a yāo (acting)" ("事出反必有妖") Quite like how Mk seems to cause a lot of chaos around himself, without even meaning to and feeling a lot of guilt for it. ie- Lady Bone Demon, Demon Bull King, Spider Queen, Azule Lion, and maybe even Macaque gaining power due to his (direct or indirect) actions. As well as other unfortunate things that have happened around him, like Mei's Samadi Fire getting activated and Wukong getting trapped in the scroll.

Secondly, tying in the concept of him being a Yaoguai to his creation: Mk was born from a rock, a clay rock made by someone unknown to us but presumed to be the goddess Nuwa. And guess where most Yao originate from? From unsentient natural items- "yāo refers to natural objects (animals, plants, or rocks) which have acquired sentience (lit. spiritual awareness)," That spiritual awareness might’ve been gifted knowingly or unknowingly by Nuwa.

Yao also only appear in human or near-human forms, and that is after all MK's original form that we see him in the show with. But they also share an "essential nature with an animal or plant." and that is there actual true form. Which since MK was carved into a monkey by Nuwa, it natural that that is the the animal he would share an "essential nature" with and would explain why he has a monkey form.

Mk also tends to have very atypical powers, which also aligns with the concept of him being a Yao since they tend to be born with unsual powers and with the ability to cultivate immortality. This explains why he was able to be immortal when we first met him, how he got that "invincibility" in the first place is still up for debate. I also wonder if this goes the other way where Yao can be born with immortality and cultivate others' powers... because that would explain how Mk is very easily able to adapt to others' powers. I'm not sure, though, since I've only done surface level research on this.

If that cultivation of powers is not possible then he may be unknowingly utilizing another common power of the Yao, shapeshifting to very accurately "mimic"(I'm not sure if that's the right word for it) others powers. Such as Wukong's, Macaque's and possibly LBD's.

Just some other cool tidbits about Yaoguai:

Yaoguai (妖怪) are distinct creatures from ghosts (鬼, pinyin: gui) and demons (魔, pinyin: mo). Ghosts are the spirits of the deceased, whereas demons are often described as fallen immortals and gods.(Mk is neither of those I think)

Sun Wukong uses this term often to insult his (demonic) adversaries(Huh that'd be ironic wouldn't it. To seemingly hate Yaoguai in JTTW, and then end up with one as his succesor.)

In Taoist folklore, yaoguai come from "an imbalance in the Tao" and "any combination of [atypical] powers, including mind control, shapeshifting and the ability to create illusions.(well our boy sure does have an atypical set of powers but if you all want to add on to this I would love to know if you've noticed some instances of these powers happening because I can see how Mk could be using shapeshifting powers but mind control and illusions? I'm not sure if there is any instance of him using those.)

Nyarlathotep!! As the most human of the outer gods, and as the one who enacts their will, he spends the most time around humans. He also prefers spreading madness over just straight up killing people, so you could tie him to the black box (spreading madness and leaving one survivor)! If you know that in the Norse myth Baldur's death was possibly planned by Odin, you could also say that Nyarlathotep influenced Baldur, thus setting up the eventual Bifrost Incident.

Tru'Nembra isn't very involved, but he is the unsentient flute that lulls Azathoth to sleep. Daemon flute that keeps it dreaming, etc.

AND! AND! The All-mother is not just a genderbend of Odin's All-Father status in myth. It's a title belonging to Shub-Niggurath, also known as "the black goat with a thousand young". omg ummmmmm... i think it's this scene from chapter 3 about Mav's mom (whom I made up, she is not 'canon') idk i was just really proud of like.. the imagery? i think that's the word. I was also proud of how much this short scene tells you about Flo Mitchell as a character and as Mav's mom.

Pete had watched as his mother parked haphazardly, crooked, and partially on the dead grass on their front lawn. He watched her fling open the car door and slam it shut, clearly on some mission toward the front door. The flag next to the door hung static and still, like a dead animal strung up on a line waiting to be slashed and skinned, waiting to be picked apart and eaten, waiting for its entire life to come full circle and rot in some hunters stomach, waiting for its own bones to be thrown out and picked apart by the maggots. The flag hung dead, unsentient, while Pete’s mother– she was anything but. She walked up to the flag, shoes clacking on the cracked pavement, her arms swaying at her sides. 3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic.

i thought you'd never ask (this is going to be long sorry (im saying this as if it's not already long))!!

i cannot, for the life of me, work directly from the computer. I am a "traditional artist" (whatever that even means) at heart, meaning that I have to do everything on paper </3. So for the first idea of Your jeep. Your teeth. The coffee that you bought me. i mapped it out very loosely in my silly little notebook.

(i blocked out spoilers (maybe) for future chapters...) check out my terrible handwriting! and check out how different the plot was! What was i thinking? "Mav bumps into Ice with Bradley after visiting Carole" yeah... sure. But once i had that loose idea i started writing in that same notebook and things kind of went from there.

And then i realized that i should probably plan out the chapters on paper so there's some consistency. so that leads to the little list-like mind maps that i make--

This is from before i learned TOP GUN moved to Nevada (sigh). In these list-like mind maps is where i come up with some of the important dialogue that needs to happen between characters ("I don't need to see a fucking shrink, Kazansky") and it was in these that the plot really began to change from that first mind map. I've made these mind maps for every chapter that needs to happen for the story.

Then after the mind map, I actually begin to write all the scenes out. after i physically write them out, i type it all up in google docs (sigh). AND THEN i copy and paste it all paragraph by paragraph into Grammarly (free edition i am not paying for that) and edit it all. And then i do it again. and then one more time. and then i post it. im crazy.

random OC ask: if your OC inexplicably had access to real-world media, what character would be their favorite? what character would they unreasoningly despise? why?

Siobhan’s favorite irl media would probably be comic books or other hero stories, they would be familiar to her and the common hero of the people trope would really resonate with her. I think her favorite character would be a Spiderman type, someone who cares about his community and does the right thing even when it’s hard (risking personal happiness for the greater good type deal, doing his best).

The object of her unreasonable hatred would probably be Frankenstein and Frankenstein-adjacent stories, they would unsettle her. She’s no stranger to raising the dead but she does it magically not through twisted science, grave robbing, and lighting storms. It may be hypocritical but she finds it extremely distasteful. (At least her zombies are unsentient mushrooms) (something something unethical treatment of sentient undead really gets to her) (hmmmmm 🤔) So least favorite character is Victor Frankenstein.

She would also like:

Cocaine bear (she can relate to the bear, not that she does coke but she understands protecting your own and she enjoys a good mauling)

Planet earth (the woman loves an animal fact)

Shrek (reluctant hero seen as a monster ends up saving the day and getting a green girlfriend) (hmmmmm 🤔)

Do you think NSR set up rules barring minors from newly joining NSR post canon? (Like the Sayu and Yinu incident became a wake up call for Tatiana that things might become too complicated and tough for children to handle)

Probably not. Since nothing truly bad with lasting effects happened because of the Revolution, and all the bad was basically reversed, I doubt any changes were set in place.

Like, if anything, maybe kids/children won't be able to enter, as Yinu did get hurt physically a bit (mainly scratches and bruises, nothing like what Mama and B2J got) but she still got hurt. Sayu's Crew on the other hand were all physically unharmed because they had unsentient Sayu to take the hits.

Now, if Sayu was sentient at this point, and got very hurt from the Revolution, then maybe a rule for all minors being barred would have been made. But because, at the time, no teens got actually hurt (physically), then there would be no reason to make any new rules.

There's also the false idea that a revolution will never happen again because there are changes being made now. There would be a belief that since NSR is going to be improving, then it will be okay to continue to employ minors as musicians since they won't be attacked like before (which is not true as NSR can start to slip or someone who doesn't like the direction NSR is going can still cause trouble).

This also goes into the question of lesser artists. This isn't just about the Megastars, but also any lesser artist starting out. What about all the teens who showed amazing talent and need a place to work? Like Ex-Jay started when they were teens, and Yiruk is starting out now as a teen. They are going to play their music, so why not get paid for it? Having them work as lesser artists for NSR is helping them, same as a part time job would.

For children, it is more like child actors. They have talent and perform, so they should get paid instead of being exploited by companies for free labor. But they also need to be protected.

I'm sure more protections would be set in place, but there would be no outright ban for minors to not be allowed to work for NSR, as long as they are of the legal working age or have parent's permission (along with lawyers and workers who make sure the kid is not being exploited by family).

Though I do guess it would probably become harder for a minor to become a Megastar after the revolution. A lesser NSRtist though should be fairly easy to become if they have the talent.
