@chronal-anomaly sent:ㅤShe had been... Off, lately. Taking calls and leaving the room, abruptly stopping in her conversation when Byan showed up. Suspicious, sure, but nothing too threatening to their balance of life they had worked out.
Until, one day, they sneak in through the window again, setting their obnoxiously loud bag on the table. A usually-empty table had one thing on it though, two tickets for Byan's favorite musician touring through town during the next weekend. As they spot the tickets, Lena stands in the doorway with a grin.
"Guess the surprise is up. Two meet 'n greet tickets, but I'm not sure who to go with. I mean, I don't know anyone else who likes their music." Her tone was a joke, of course, she wasn't even a fan so much as she enjoyed a few songs of theirs. But Byan didn't need to know that.
ㅤif dropping their bag carelessly onto the table hadn't almost blown the tickets right off the surface, they might not have taken any notice. fortunately, the slim sheets of paper skittering away catch their attention, piquing their curiosity upon recognizing them as being event tickets. never one afraid to snoop — certainly not when it came to any of lena's business — byan pulls them back over with a couple fingers, eyes idly scanning over all the printed information despite not expecting to be particularly interested in whatever it is lena's planning to go to.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤ—except, they are.
the artist's name is one they read every day, without fail, given their songs take up so many slots in all of their playlists. nevertheless, byan forces themself to reread the name another four times, slower with each run-through, just to be sure that they haven't missed a letter or mixed letters up or completely misread it in any other way.
ㅤthey haven't. every time it's the same result.
intently focused as they are on the tickets, lena's voice actually makes them jump when she speaks up from the doorway. head jerking upward, they fix her with a wide-eyed stare, their shock palpable. meet and greet tickets? they hadn't even caught that part, given they'd been skimming the text too quickly for the words to register.
ㅤthere's no way.
ㅤㅤ" shut the fuck up. "ㅤthe words hold no heat, only surprise and perhaps a deeply stifled, vaguely wary excitement. lena knows this is their favourite artist — she's walked in on them embarrassingly belting out lyrics on too many occasions to not. had them recommend songs or force her to watch new music videos with them too many times to not. these tickets are for them, they know it, but still some part of them can't quite believe it.
ㅤㅤ" there's no fucking way you got 0m3n tickets. "ㅤswiping the slips of paper off the table and into their hand, byan looks back down at them once more, like they need to confirm for a fifth time that they don't have it wrong. despite themself, a grin begins to pull at their features as the excitement of it all starts to settle in.ㅤ" i didn't even bother looking at tickets 'n even i know these've been sold out for weeks. you've gotta be shitting me, there's no— where'd you even get these? "
and, they can't help the bewildered, disbelieving question in the back of their mind, did you really do this just for me?

ohhhh. man. ok so I'm caught up to where I left off in the lost continent prophecy arc. it is a strangely empty feeling plus also I understand their position and outlook so much better now than I did last time I read it. also I have hit the point in my week where I might actually have to start doing other things instead of lying around reading all day so obviously Great timing for me to reach the point where I need to start reading the two new books that will kill me to put down once I start them
