It's all meant to be!

The day I cleared my graduation, my grandfather passed away - could never tell him that "Dadaji, I have cleared my graduation!"

Husain told me during one of our conversations that same month (May 2003) that "why don't you join this Chartered Accountancy (C.A.) firm, given that you are not doing anything". I joined them in a few days time.

While working on something in that C.A. firm, one day Husain called up Hussain asking if he knows someone who knows MS Excel - that call helped me land into Capgemini - from being an Audit Clerk to be part of the Resourcing team in just a matter of a day! From drawing a salary of INR 750 per month to INR 8,000 per month, in just a matter of a day!

Immediately after the July 2005 deluge in Mumbai, I decided to resign from Capgemini – I still don’t know why! I was getting married in a few months’ time but at that point in time, I thought it was best to not do anything and figure out something as I move along.

I joined this recruitment consultancy which gave me the confidence to start something on my own – while it did start, it failed, miserably in just six months’ time, leaving me broke!

In that “broke” state, Ugam happened to me in 2006 - while attending my induction, I got a call from the family that we were blessed with a daughter! I became an Ugamite and a Father, on the same day!

I was stuck with a fantastic manager (pun intended) and decided to quit Ugam in just a year and joined Netscribes where I would be myself. It introduced me to the Bengalis – oh my love for the bongs and their food!

Nearly 4 years, I had the time of my life, and I got a call from Raj to rejoin Ugam...and WHY NOT!

In one of the years when Maa was at the hospital, I was hoping to win one of the awards to be able to go back to Maa with a trophy, but…she passed away in a few months’ time. A year later, I did win that trophy, but it felt so empty with Maa not being around. Perhaps, Maa was never meant to see her son come to her with a trophy.

From Lateral hiring to being the first HR Business Partner to being the first Qualtrics EX certified to being a writer, to being leading the Resource Management team, perhaps, life has come a full circle in these 20 years.

Every victory, every defeat, every joy, every sorrow – everything has perhaps happened the way it was meant to be. I was meant to be writing this!

Wanderlust of Devkund waterfalls

1-day Sunday trek on a Thursday! This was my life's first mid-week trek. On 13th October 2022, when there was supposed to be the October heat, Mumbai and surrounding regions were experiencing extended monsoon, 7 friends decided to explore the Devkund waterfalls.

The blog post is divided into 4 parts as follows:

1) How did we go? 2) Time line. 3) Photography & Video. 4) Expenses.

HOW DID WE GO?

Grade: easy - but long.

Base village: Bhira near Patnus and Pali.

Base railway station: Khopoli.

Route: By car from Dadar - Pali - Khopoli - Patnus - Bhira - Car parked at Bhira - 7 km single way trek to Devkund & backtrack.

Top tip: Visit on a week day, to avoid 5000+ crowd on weekends and do not throw plastic bottles, wafer packets and chocolate wrappers en route & around the waterfalls.

The place is so pristine, that the reservoir formed by the waterfall, reflects the color of the sky. So if you are lucky and the sky is clear and cloudless, you will see blue waters. Devkund means reservoir of the Gods.

Devkund is also the UGAM or the origin of River Kundalika. The river that has been made famous for rafting at Kolad.

There were villagers all along the way at every corner or twist and turn in the path. And they were there to help us. Guide us. Ask them the way and they will always point you in the correct and safest path. There is enough food and water provisions made by these helpful villagers for the city people who come to litter their beautiful environment. So please leave only your footprints and take nothing from the jungle, but photographs and pleasant memories.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Don't be fooled by the flat terrain even in the videos. There are uphills and downhills and it is long. Use trekking shoes always.

The dog who followed us right from the start till the top. Of course, it earned tidbits from us.

60/- rick between home to railway station (twice taken).

20/- return train ticket.

4896/- = 306 km x Rs. 16 per km.

400/- driver's daily allowance.

205/- = toll of 40 + 40 + 125.

5501/- = 7 passengers + 1 driver in AC Innova car hired = 4896 + 400 + 205.

(At Bhira: 200/- unlimited vegetarian meal; 220/- unlimited non vegetarian meal; 20/- tea; 10/- changing room for bath)

40/- breakfast of 20 per tea + 20 for 2 vadas.

100/- delicious lunch of chapatis & mutter-paneer

60/- instead of 100/- as entry, because of check-in with Shelar Mama's home stay.

210/- = 30 per head contributed towards driver's meals.

TOTAL = 1096/- per head.

It feels like home!

They say you should always draw a line between your personal life and professional life, however, when you are always at home even in your professional career, these lines seem to be blurred, at least for me. I quit Ugam couple of weeks back after my 2nd stint there and earlier this week, I have re-joined Netscribes - it just feels like someone out there wants me to be home, all the time! I was a Manager-HR with Netscribes between 2007 and 2011 and I have re-joined as their HR Head overseeing all aspects of HR, while focusing initially on putting together a Talent Acquisition strategy.
