imagine watching Terrence Mann on soap operas in the 80s, thinking his eyes are brown or hazel at best, and then getting the absolute jumpscare of your life when you watch Critters finally.

thoughts about critters (1986): 1. he's so beautiful. 2. this is the funniest shit I have ever seen. "thanks" THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING.*
*wrong. they shot up a bar, crashed into a church, and threw a cop through a window.

The bounty hunter duplication ray was a success! ...now I just need to figure out scale. 🤔 Tossed that Ug image up through Vograce, just to see how it would come out. Because I sent in an RGB image, instead of CYMK, the bright pinks and blues got washed out pretty badly (albeit not as bad as they seem in the photo), though the browns are pretty much perfect. Go figure.
EDIT: Flat acrylic Ug (large lefthand one) has found a home. The two domed epoxy Ugs are still up for grabs!

File: Critters
SCP#: AAT
Code Name: The Crites, the Galactic Criminal Vermin
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AAT instances are contained within 30x30 meter pen at Site-AG. The only way in and out is through an opening at the celling where none of the Instances can reach. They are to be feed a single cow every day as feeding them any more will allow them to grow bigger. Four 360-degree cameras are placed in the four corners of the containment cell to prevent any blind spots from existing that SCP-AAT instances can take advantage of. Hidden in the ceiling are two laser turrets, utilized to cull the population of SCP-AAT instances should they start to flood the containment pen.
In the event of a Containment Breach, on site observation staff are to update site security of SCP-AAT’s status. If they show any signs of breaking out, a single Kallivantium explosive is to be dropped and detonated within the containment cell. Security staff and observation staff are to ensure that SCP-AAT instances are all either captured for later containment or killed if necessary.
Description: SCP-AAT is a species of aliens that are the same size as porcupines but are much viler in nature. Each instance has two feet, two claws, a beast like face with red eyes, and three to four rows of vicious teeth. Their bodies average anywhere between 18 to 24 centimeters in height and are quite physically strong in spite of their size. Each instance can pin a grown man down and begin ripping his flesh apart in a matter of seconds. Despite their savage behavior and appearance, they are actually quite intelligent. They are also extremely curious and often make bad decisions due to ignorance rather than stupidity.
SCP-AAT instances are able to roll into balls and travel at a speed of 12 mph, being able to perceive everything around them, ensuring perfect mobility when rolling. SCP-AAT instances do lack mobility in all other aspects but have sharp quills that grow along their spine which they can shoot out as projectile weapons. Furthermore, these quills have a paralysis venom that can either weaken or completely knock out prey. When a SCP-AAT instance eats enough or has lived long enough it will start to grow to be 4-6 feet tall. They are still able to roll into balls at this size but due to their walking speed improving they normally don't. Instead, they become more accustomed to their newfound strength and use it to kill and eat prey. It should be noted that despite their various strengths and killing methods, they are quite fragile and can be killed with even simple firearms.
SCP-AAT was discovered in 1986 when Foundation staff on the moon noticed two ships entering our solar system with earth in their trajectory. Both ships were intercepted by Mobile Task Force Apollo-1 "Orion's Belt". The ships halted when intercepted by an LSFSB-29 "Sanctuary" ship known as the SCPSS: Space Eagle. A fleet of RFDJ-5 “Vultures” surrounded both ships, forcing them to enter the landing dock within the SCPSS: Space Eagle. This unfortunately led to chaos as the SCP-AAT instances ran out of the ship and started attacking Foundation security able to easily tear through their armor. The loading dock had to be put on lock down though it didn’t last long thanks to the Alien Bounty Hunters on the other ship. They were named Lee and Ug and killed off half of the SCP-AAT instances forcing the others back into their own ship.
The remaining SCP-AAT instances were smart enough to surrender, allowing the Foundation to contain them with ease. Unforutantely Lee and Ug were not please as they were hired to kill all SCP-AAT instances, and their employer would know if they failed. To get them to give up on SCP-AAT they were paid with [data expunged] which is a common currency used in the [data expunged] district of the Milky Way Galaxy. Though because of their contribution Lee and Ug were offered positions within the Foundation as an alternative to payment and as per directive under the protocol "Sole Survivor". However, both refused and instead took the [data expunged] as payment.
"It honestly sucks that they refused, shapeshifting aliens would be invaluable to the Foundation, no offence to our other alien staff. Still though, it does feel weird to not amnestize someone who refused the 'Sole Survivor' protocol. But they weren't on earth, and they were from the [data expunged] district, which everyone in that part of the milky way knows about the Foundation anyways. So they simply didn't apply to the common jurisdiction. Either way I'm just glad we managed to get SCP-AAT before it hit earth, there have been too many SCP's that have managed to slip past MTF Apollo-1." -Dr. Malik.

i am so so so so excited that i've found someone who enjoys critters as much as i do!!! fellow ug and lee enjoyer!!!
<3333 tbh I've loved seeing you work your way through the critters tag on my blog all evening! there's a lot of good stuff in there I'd completely forgotten about 😭
and right, critters is so underrated!! there's a few people around here who appreciate it but it deserves so much more :-( I only got into it because I was doing that thing where you get into an actor's work and watch their filmography for crumbs no matter how shitty it is - and god knows terrence mann was in a lot of terrible 80s tv (said affectionately) - so I was not prepared for critters to be legitimately good?? the effects! the surprisingly down to earth bond between the family! the acting! the humour! the puppets! the charming 80s colour palette! ug and lee being useless as all fuck! charlie becoming their bestie! power of the night!!
Tumblr media
^ I love the cop car hijinks, but this screenshot in particular always makes me laugh. there's a braincell somewhere in this image and by god one of them is going to find it sooner or later

Tim’s Favorite Movie Project: Critters 2: The Main Course
Critters 2: The Main Course (1988)
Directed by Mick Garris
Starring Scott Grimes, Liane Curtis, Don Opper, Terrence Mann, Barry Corbin, Roxanne Kernohan
Released April 29, 1988
Plot: Two years after the events of Critters, the citizens of Grover’s Bend have resumed a normal, Krite-free existence. The peace is shattered when Krite eggs are discovered, mistaken for some kind of antiques (?!) and begin to hatch. Soon after, shape shifting alien bounty hunters Ug and Lee return to join the citizens in an epic battle for Grover’s Bend – and Earth itself!
One of my favorites because: Critters 2 is an oddity in so many ways. On the surface, it’s a pretty basic sequel – it gathers all the survivors of the first film (well – those who were willing to return), and more or less repeats the premise. But Critters 2 is a gratuitous sequel that’s self-conscious about being a gratuitous sequel. Critters 2 is a PG-13 rated film that raises the level graphic gore from the first film, and features 80’s action movie levels of nudity (working in a brilliant Airplane! level sight gag). It’s a film that doesn’t seem to have any artistic reason to exist, and it capitalizes on that by featuring main characters struggling to find their place in the world: Brad tries to hide his identity because of his association with the events of Critters, and Charlie is reluctant to return to Earth for fear of being shoehorned back into his old role. The shapeshifting Lee spends the whole film restlessly trying to find what shape it belongs in; Sheriff Harv is now played by a different actor and doesn’t want to be a part of this at all. But what really makes Critters 2 memorable, and what earns it a place (at least for now) on this favorites list, is the strength and novelty of its Easter imagery. The Krite eggs are mistaken for God knows what, decorated, and used in an Easter egg hunt, which is all well and good, but can’t compete with the most memorable sequence in the film in which a man dressed as the Easter Bunny gets his suit filled with hungry Critters and crashes as a bloody mess through a church window. Exceptional. There are so many Christmas horror movies, but it’s somewhat harder to find any that exploit the bright colors and silly imagery of Easter – and maybe that’s because it’ll never get any better than this.
My relationship to this movie: When I was little, my grandparents had a side room where grandpa had a little 8” or 10” color television set up. When we were at their house, us kids would hang in that room and watch whatever was on – usually movies on TBS or Channel 11. This meant very little adult interference, but also zero control over what was on or what parts of it we saw. That is where I saw the Easter Bunny sequence for the first time. (This is the first but definitely not the last time a movie I saw on that TV will make this list.) That experience, probably in 1989, represented the sum total of my direct knowledge of the Critters franchise until 2019. I would have movie nights with my friend in Buffalo by syncing our starts and texting throughout the movie; she picked Critters (and for some reason, Critters Attack!) in late fall 2019, and was disappointed that the scene I was waiting for was not in that movie. Then, in late summer 2020, I got into the rest of the series via Scream! Factory’s loaded Blu-ray box set. Revisiting Critters 2 for this writing was the fourth time I’ve watched the movie in its entirety.
My favorite _________: Critters 2 is my favorite Easter movie. List Position at Debut:Critters 2 is the twelfth entry in this project and starts at number twelve.

Critters 2

Guess who owns Critters 2 now. [A cartoony drawing of Ug, one of the bounty hunters from the Critters movies, running to the left. He’s holding an equally cartoony space gun, and looks mildly ticked off.]
