Doi Boy (2023): Tells the story of Sorn, a Burmese immigrant who has become a sex worker in Chiang Mai and is forced by one of his clients to undertake the riskiest mission of his life.

Themes contained: LGBTQ+, politics, police corruption, illegal immigrants, human trafficking, protests, forced disappearances

You will like it if:

you like character-focused media

you enjoy extremely flawed queer characters

you like depressing ass but real ass stories

you enjoy political dramas

you like understated yet powerful stories

My grade: 8,5/10

My favorite things about this movie:

the INCREDIBLE acting, especially by aelm bhumibhat who's slowly becoming one of the best & most powerful thai actors in my eyes. ud awat & pae arak also ate this up bruh.

the directing & cinematography are so so so good, they remind me of p'nuchie anucha & apichatpong weerasethakul and I mean that in the best way.

this story is so impactful & I know I will remember it for years to come. this movie didn't go AT ALL where I thought it would at first, and I'm grateful because the last 30 minutes made it become a favorite for me.

super niche but this whole cast is crazy & I simply adore who they got to sign on this movie, like... pae arak??? that's insane, like literally insane. ud awat showed his whole ass twice & frankly? slay. the cast is too fucking good but that's just a me point bc you probably don't know them lol.
