#u.s. embassy
Text
By Yaimi Ravelo
Thousands of Havana residents marched along the Malecon of the Cuban capital to denounce the war crimes of the Zionist state of Israel against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.
“It is heard, it is felt, the Palestinian people in Cuba is present”;
“Alert, alert, alert that walks, the voice of Palestine in Latin America”;
“The people united will never be defeated. Long live the Palestinian cause. “
These were the chants that were repeated in the crowded march called by the Union of Young Communists (UJC), which in a determined way moved from G and Malecón, passing by the U.S. Embassy and concluded in La Piragua with a Tribune in solidarity with the victims of the Israeli genocide in Palestine. The UJC entitled the event as the March for Life and Peace in Palestine.

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) appeared to fire an implicit barb at colleagues Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) on Friday over tweets from the two legislators earlier in the week about the construction of the planned U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
“I support the [State Department] as it proceeds to build an embassy where it belongs, in a country’s capital. Israel should be no exception,” Torres said on Twitter. “The [siting] of an embassy in Jerusalem in no way forecloses the possibility of a two state solution, which remains the best path forward for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
Tlaib had tweeted earlier in the week that she was “outraged” that the State Department was moving forward on its plans to build the embassy “on land stolen from Palestinians,” adding that in “doing so, the U.S. is complicit in the illegal confiscation of Palestinian property.”
The Michigan congresswoman followed up the tweet by linking to a New York Times op-ed about the U.S.’s reported plans to build a new embassy in Jerusalem on the Allenby Barracks site — parts of which the op-ed’s author says had been in his family’s possession prior to Israel’s war for independence in 1948.
McCollum likewise tweeted about the op-ed last week, sharing a quote from it.
Torres noted on Friday that the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 required the U.S. to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem. The current embassy facility was previously used by the U.S. consulate that coordinated relations with the Palestinians.
In a floor speech earlier this month, Tlaib again accused Israel of apartheid, accusations that have previously elicited accusations of antisemitism from other House Democrats and Jewish leaders.

Helicopter evacuation of the U.S. embassy in Kabul. Another useless 20 years war... Except that it bolstered US capitalism with public funds. War mongers are the biggest frauds.

This is the first I'm hearing of this today so I'm waiting for news outlets to confirm his death so I'm still looking for more information.
Regardless, Aaron Bushnell, thank you for your sacrifice. Self immolation is the most severe form of protest. I'm sorry it came to this.
First, the man in Congo, now this. Every single day, I feel ill.
Edit: several reports confirm Aaron has passed. I don't know if I'll stop crying before I go to bed. I may need day to take a break and sit with this. We haven't seen this much self immolation protests documented so forwardly since Vietnam.

Holy shit, an active duty American soldier set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington DC. Before he set himself on fire he introduced himself as "an active duty member of the U.S. Airforce I will no longer be complicit in genocide." Then repeated "free Palestine" while he was on fire. He did it while wearing his duty uniform too. There is footage of the act. I don't know how I feel about posting images of a man's self-immolation but it's such an unprecedented action to be almost unbelievable without visual evidence. Even with the several self-immolations that occurred on American soil during the Vietnam and Iraq wars, I don't think I can point to one undertaken by an active duty soldier. I will instead link to the Twitter post where it was first made public under the "more" cut below. It goes without saying that the image is graphic.

Cairo, Nov. 29 — On Monday, U.S. participants who are part of the Global Conscience Convoy went to a scheduled meeting with the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, to encourage the embassy to do its part in allowing the convoy to help break the siege of Gaza, and to help stop the complicity and support of Israeli genocide that the entire U.S. government is guilty of and profits from.
A U.S. embassy representative admitted that giving weapons to Egypt and Israel allows the U.S. to have leverage in their decisions. But they had previously said they had no influence with Egypt to allow the Global Conscience Convoy through!

"He is one of the most principled comrades I've ever known," said Xylem, who worked with Bushnell to support San Antonio's unhoused residents.
"He's always trying to think about how we can actually achieve liberation for all with a smile on his face," said Errico.
