Looking at board games.

For our next project we have to create our own board game with our own cards, characters, etc, so it is important that we first have a look at games that already exist not only for inspiration but also to see what works best for each of us and what range of we can cover.

Legends Of Runeterra

I decided to go with Tryndamare simply because I like his design. I always had a soft spot for warriors and I think his helmet looks really cool. I think the layout of the card is good, it’s very easy to see the character and the name. The colours are a bit dull for my liking, which would work for the character’s art but the gold edge and all the other details seem a bit washed up. I also don’t like how little writing the card has, there is little to no information, and the icons won’t really help someone who only started playing recently.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

Looking at these cards, I have to say I enjoy the art more than the one from LOR, the colours pop out more and the art in general appeals more to me. I both like and don’t like the fact the cards don’t have some kind of frame, It makes it look original but In the same time it also makes it look somehow unofficial . Once again, information about character is missing but that is not necessary a bad thing as at least it explains the use of the card. I also enjoy the font they have used on this better.

Hearthstone

The card gives a lot of information which is good, the style and designs look alright, pretty similar to the other games I have looked at but this one has to be my least favourite. The characters themselves are okay and the colours are really lovely but I can barely see them since the image is only a third of the card I think there are too many unnecessary details on the cards frame and the background on which all the information and picture are laid on. This card is most certainly unique but I don't like the layout.
