“I have to go”, the boy said, Harley probably imagining the disappointment in his voice. He looked up at Harley and smiled and Harley momentarily forgot everything. “See you around.”
Harley waved awkwardly as he left before his boss called him to bring the car into the shop. As he was pulling it in, he noticed a bisexual flag sticker on the dash. Huh.

The first day back to school, two more things were added to Harley’s ever-growing list of facts.

Harley’s head shot up at that and, yep, it was the cute guy from a week ago. The boy--Peter--turned to face the class, what seemed to be his usual smile on his face. He looked all glowy and half the girls in the class were looking at him like they wanted to kiss him senseless. The idea made Harley feel weird.
Harley seemed to have missed the part where Peter was introducing himself because suddenly the brunette was sitting at the desk next to him and flashing him a smile. Harley had a hard time focusing on History after that.
He found that almost all his classes were with Peter, seeing as they were both already at least college level. And the boy sat next to Harley in every single one, not that Harley minded. He was walking out of the school when Peter ran up to him. 
“So, you got anything planned for the robotics project?”, he asked. Harley smiled at him from the side of his eye and was about to answer when he was stopped in his tracks. Literally.
He looked up from the hand on his chest to see the captain of the baseball team and a few of his yes-men standing in front of him.
“Careful around Keener, Parker”, the captain said, still looking at Harley. “His queerness might rub off on you.”

The boys looked disgusted and backed up a bit. They looked like they were about to insult them, so Harley cut them off.
“Look, I’m sure whatever homophobic thing you’re going to say is very enlightening and original, but we have a robotics project to ace”, with that, he grabbed Peter’s hand and started pulling him toward his house.

“What?”
Peter had flushed deeply and ran off, saying something about talking to a teacher. Harley had felt slightly disappointed as he ran away, but he forgot about the interaction when he had to take a test next period. They didn’t talk about it. 
They talked about everything else, though, which led to his thirteenth thing on his list:
13:   Peter’s hands were warm.

The two boys had been sitting on the roof of Harley’s shed. They had been watching the stars since Peter had off-handily commented that he had never been stargazing without immense amounts of light pollution. Harley had been determined to rectify that. They had been laying there in silence for a while when Peter spoke up.
“What happened to your dad?”
Harley sucked in a breath before sighing it all out. “He left. When I was seven.”
“I’m sorry”, he said. Harley listened for the undertone of pity, but it never came.
“What happened to your parents?”, Harley eventually got up the courage to ask.
Peter was quiet for a while and Harley was afraid he had overstepped when he said, “They died. Car accident, about a year ago.”
“I’m sorry”, Harley repeated softly. Peter didn’t say anything, but he felt a hand touch his. Harley grabbed it and Peter slowly intertwined their fingers. 
They laid there until the sun started to rise, hands intertwined and hearts beating in sync.

Harley threw his bag down and jumped into the bed beside him, half landing on the other boy.

Peter shook his head before turning toward Harley. Harley let his head fall to the side and the two just watched each other.

Harley didn’t know if it was the heat shutting down his cognitive function, the state testing turning his brain to mush or the five months they had been dancing around each other, but he wasn’t surprised by the question. Instead of answering, though, he just leaned in and pressed his lips to Peter’s.

SCIENCE LECTURE
In my fic here, Sherlock has a little brainstorming session while drugged out of his mind, and this sheet of notes below is the result of it. I decided to write out a little explanation as to what all the individual parts of it mean. The explanation will be in the format of ITEM - TRANSLATION - BREAKDOWN. The item will be the selection of the notes that the section will be explaining, copied roughly verbatim for the reader's convenience. The translation, if needed, will be translating Sherlock's (my) shorthand into standard notation. The breakdown, then, will be the explanation.
Disclaimer: I was a medical student, before I had to withdraw due to hand injury, and my area of study in undergraduate was neuroscience and neuropsychology (and music performance, but that's not relevant here). I do try and explain everything in layman's terms, but 1) it will get a little technical in parts, fair warning, and 2) I'm still learning on how best to explain concepts to other. I try my best, people!

ITEM 1: THE LIST
1) Narcotics- hallucin? (Translation: Hallucinogen)

Breakdown:

1) Narcotics- hallucinogen: self-explanatory, as explained by the actual episode.

If this hypothesis had been correct, he should've been experiencing more subtle hallucinations all night long.
3) Mycroft- test?: As discussed in series four, Mycroft occasionally has been employing tests into Sherlock's mental stability for decades, focusing on what Sherlock believes to be a dog. Sherlock, being Sherlock, has likely noticed this. Mycroft knows Sherlock is hanging around Baskerville. Sherlock also knows Mycroft knows this. 4) Lights show: Again, inspired by series 4, and how the illusion of a ghost is created in TAB with nothing more than a projector. The logistics of how this would actually work are hazy, which is why this is further down the list, and quickly discounted by Sherlock.
5) GMO: While GMOs are usually discussed in the context of resilient strains of plants, all it really means is genetically modified organism. I'm speaking as one educated in 2014+, not 2012 (the ep air date), but breeding an especially large dog, and genetically modifying it to have red eyes, would probably not be too difficult a feat, scientifically. 7) Acute psychosis xxx: AKA, "I lost my mind". Very unlikely, because it doesn't explain why Henry shared his hallucination, has no explanation as to why or how, and he has no other symptoms suggestive of a psychotic break. Which is why Sherlock scratched it out, and marked it with three Xs.
ITEM 2: THE FEEDBACK LOOP
This refers to the diagram, sitting just to the right of the list.

Let's define some terms!

Sympathetic Nervous System = simplistically speaking, our autonomic nervous system has two parts that work together, the sympathetic nervous system, and the parasympathetic nervous system. PNS can be summed up as rest and digestion, while SNS can be summed up as fight or flight.
Occipital Cortex = simplistically speaking, the visual center in the brain. There are other areas involved, but this area is the key and center to visual perception.
Temporal = simplistically speaking, the auditory cortex in the brain.
Amygdala = simplistically speaking, the fear center of the brain.
(I am defining all these terms as their relation to this situation at hand, nothing more. The brain is not so simple as to allocate X Function to Y cortex.)
So, Sherlock theorizes that input of Drug X stimulates the SNS and/or the amygdala, which caused inappropriate occipital lobe stimulation leading to hallucinations, which increased Sherlock's fear response, which caused further SNS activation, and so on. The hallucinations led to stimulant-esque effects, but with no stimulant to counteract, Sherlock would simply end up sloshed and panicking. Sherlock realizes that the alcohol is not having the desired affect, and, when he realizes he was drugged, concludes that it therefore can not have been with a simple stimulant.

(Without any information on the chemical structure of Drug X, though, I can’t make any sort of estimation on what results Sherlock’s own blood test would show, with the sample drawn ~8 hours after being dosed).

The 'subject' in this case refers to Sherlock. THC, as you probably know, is is the primary hallucinogenic/psychoactive component of cannabis (marijuana). Also as you probably know, cannabis tends to reduce anxiety effects in most individuals, but in some, it results in a paradoxical panic reaction. We're not entirely sure why, but this panic reaction appears to be due to GABA paradoxical disinhibition. Essentially, in a standard patient, cannabis leads to mass increases in GABA, which is the calm-down chemical in the brain. However, in these select patients, cannabis' initial activation of GABA may lead to the brain telling the production of GABA itself to calm down, which lead to an overall decrease in GABA levels in the amygdala, which leads to a panic reaction. (Disclaimer: This is still a working theory in the scientific community, and all depends on an individual's makeup of receptors and neural circuits. This is by no means settled discussion, either the end result or its mechanism.)
Overall, irrelevant to THC and cannabis, patients with severe childhood trauma do tend to have amygdalas that are primed for overstimulation (possibly by the very process described in the paragraph above). Whether Sherlock deleted Eurus and Victor or not, those neurological affects aren't something he could just will away. This is not saying that if you have childhood trauma, you will have a negative reaction to cannabis- but it IS saying that Sherlock might be a candidate expected to have a negative reaction.
Now, given Sherlock's extensive drug history, I'm sure he tried cannabis, at some point. It is also, however, never once brought up in the series proper, which suggests he has absolutely no interest in trying it again- perhaps because he had a negative reaction the first time. The panic reaction and amygdala overstimulation would probably feel similar to how Drug X affected him, which is why, initially, Sherlock writes it down as a suggestion, and also notes that it would not directly cause SNS activation. (At this point, he is not sure if SNS activation is a direct symptom or not).
He then swiftly marks it out as a stupid theory, because he realizes that he has a very atypical reaction to THC, so the likelihood of Henry sharing his hallucination and panic is very low. More to the point, because his reaction is so atypical and unpredictable, it makes no sense that unknown criminals would drug them with it.
TO SUM UP:
Sherlock is a graduate chemist, not a medical doctor, neuroscientist, or neuropsychologist. He does seem to have a great degree of interest and expertise in pharmacology, and probably also has a lot of knowledge in different routes of administration, due to his own personal history and his interest in forensics. However, he has no need to know, for example, the exact neuro-chemical causes of hallucinations. Therefore, his sheet of data is intentionally a bit spotty and with questionable accuracy, at points. (He also gets a bit of a break, considering he was "off his tits", or whatever the fuck that means, at the time. Poor guy needs a rest and a blanket and a hug.)

I need my diazepam (aka Valium) to fight panic attacks on bad days. It keeps me from pacing until I have blisters on my feet, picking and plucking until I’m bleeding, mutilating myself with nail clippers, scissors and razor blades. Combined with a muscle relaxer, it’s especially effective at keeping me slow and comfortable in bed until the trigger or hormone spike or whatever passes (basically a chemical restraint). I voluntarily drug myself into a useless blob at least once a week to keep from harming myself or inflicting my issues on my caretaker (mom) more than necessary.
But the side effects make things even worse. I get vertigo, so I’m nauseous and dizzy just sitting here typing - walking is a bitch and trying to clean or cook is a joke - I spend hours or days without food because I can’t manage the process of assembling a meal without getting so dizzy I pass out/fall down and can’t get off the ground unaided). I get sound sensitivity that is so bad it’s difficult to describe to people who haven’t experienced it (anyone with migraines - it’s that sound sensitivity) and it ‘s so painful I cry and it furthers my anxiety. I basically live in gun-range ear muffs, including while I sleep. Sometimes I use ear plugs and muffs which hurts in its own way, but nothing like a bad sound day. Just talking or chewing something with a crunch hurts from the noise inside my own head. 
It’s depressing being stuck in a dark, low-stimulation space, alone, with no one to talk to and even the clicking of the keyboard or chewing gum is physically painful. It affects my executive functioning, my balance and my reaction times so I can’t drive or go for walks. I’m stuck in my house and can’t even interact with my pets because of the noise that they naturally make.
There’s also some evidence that the substance itself (benzos) could be furthering my depression. But I haven’t found anything else that works the same that isn’t illegal. Cannabis has recently been legalized in my state and very very very low doses of THC with lots of CBD helps soothe me without triggering my anxiety, but it doesn’t touch my panic attacks or help depression (and there’s evidence it could be making me worse too - yay).
But you know what does work? Opioids. I’ve taken them on and off for almost 20 years and learned in the beginning that I was self-medicating my mental illness into something functional. The valium affects my brain like alcohol does (GABA A/B), so that really is just repeating my stint as a functional alcoholic (not addicted, but needing to drink each night to get through the next day - once I quit that job I stopped drinking without an issue). But not one single anti-depression med has helped me function, let alone with so few side effects like tramadol or hydrocodone. Zoloft literally ruined my life and changed my personality, Welbutrin put me in a mental hospital and gave me a whole host of new phobias about ordinary objects, and the others either made me destructively anxious or endlessly sleepy while killing my will to do anything but cry.
I spent almost 5 years succeeding in college (full-time 3.5gpa with part-time work that I won awards for) fighting back against my illness because of the availability of pharma-quality low-dose opioids. But I lost my trusted supplier and my whole world fell apart. Not because I was addicted, the withdrawals were over in a few days and I didn’t crave the pills, but having them felt the same as having my thyroid supplements - I’m a real person on them, I can get out of bed and face the world without suffocating under a wet blanket of mental and physical exhaustion.
I’ve spent the last 5 years locked in my home, losing against the effects of my illness. Now with the addiction-panic, I can’t even talk to my psych about what I experienced to see if there’s an alternative for people like me. And I sure as hell can’t afford a cycle of ketamine treatments, let alone a trial one (don’t let the miracle stories fool you, the studies are saying it’s a temporary effect on mood, you need repeated applications - though the LSD trial are very promising especially for PTSD and cPTSD). 
I’ve honestly, truly, thought about picking up street heroin as an alternative. You can smoke it and, even if it’s adulterated, you’ll nod off before you get a lethal dose. After 5 years of being housebound with bouts of bedbound from my illness, after losing every single person in my life besides my mom, I would trade being a functional addict for being this - lonely, atrophied, dangerously uncoordinated, confused, always nauseous, pathetically terrified of open doors at night, voices in other rooms, and the door bell - thing that I am right now in a heartbeat.
Luckily (unluckily, who the fuck knows?), I’m so unbelievably poor and without resources that I couldn’t afford a single dime bag, even if I could find a dealer and drive there and back.
I hate my life so bad some days. I hate my life most days if I could handle thinking about it. I definitely hate my life today. I fought back against being suicidal because of my mom. So now she gets a drugged up blog who reads reddit/tumbr/ao3 in bed as their only daily activities, but at least I’m not hurting her or anyone else. I was going to have family, a career, a garden and a little writing hobby. But that’s all gone now, and there’s now way to get it back in my current state. When she’s gone, if things aren’t any different, I doubt I’ll survive it.
I want to get better. I would prefer to do it on my own. But hell, if prohibition ended, I would be popping percs and going out to meet with old friends an get a job and everything. It wouldn’t be perfect, but it would be better than this.

The risk was even greater among those who had a history of heart problems. Research published in Circulation further showed that men who frequently felt anger and hostility had an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm).7 Other negative emotions such as depression and loneliness have also been linked to a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.8 Suppressing Negative Emotions Makes Matters Worse Suppressing your anger is not the answer, however. It too has been found to triple your risk of heart attack, and the risks associated with the suppression of anger were even greater when people felt they'd been treated unfairly.9 According to Iris Mauss, associate professor of psychology at UC Berkeley and author of a study10 on the health effects of repressing versus accepting dark emotions:11 "We found that people who habitually accept their negative emotions experience fewer negative emotions, which adds up to better psychological health. Maybe if you have an accepting attitude toward negative emotions, you're not giving them as much attention. And perhaps, if you're constantly judging your emotions, the negativity can pile up." In other words, trying to pretend you don't feel what you feel, or judging your emotions harshly, tends to cause more stress than just feeling it and moving on. By contrast, people who allowed sadness, disappointment, anger or resentment to simply run its course had fewer symptoms of mood disorders. Accepting "what is," including your emotions, is what many meditation and yoga practices teach you. But why is accepting your emotions so important? Psychology Today explains:12 "When you try to deny or stifle any 'parts' of yourself — whether undesirable emotions, desires or fears — you become fragmented. But you need a sense of integration; of wholeness inside, to grow your well-being and capacity to handle the ups and downs, the successes and failures; all part of the relentless change and impermanence that characterizes life." Repressed emotions such as anger, fear, frustration and rage may also be a factor contributing to chronic pain, especially back pain.
