Fox News retainer Brian Kilmeade got his balls handed to him by the former president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Kilmeade had tried to push a MAGA Hunter Biden conspiracy theory on live TV involving Ukraine.
At the heart of every single Republican conspiracy about both President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden’s activities in Ukraine is a single claim. The claim is that Joe Biden got Ukraine Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin sacked in order to protect energy company Burisma, where Hunter Biden was on the board. That was the claim former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani brought back from Ukraine, and the basis on which Donald Trump tried to blackmail Ukraine and earned his first impeachment. [ ... ] The idea that Shokin was fired to protect Burisma has been debunked so many times that de bunk is exhausted, but it has seldom gone down with as much grim satisfaction as it did on Sunday when Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade interviewed former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. [ ... ] Kilmeade: Is that why he got fired? Because of the billion dollars and the former vice president, now president? Poroshenko: First of all, this is a completely crazy person. This is something wrong with him. Second, there is not one single word of truth. And third, I hate the idea to make any comments and to make any intervention in the American election. We have very much enjoyed bipartisan support. Please do not use such person like Shokin to undermine the trust between bipartisan support and Ukraine.
The Viktor Shokin thing has been debunked to death. Shokin is the "completely crazy person" Poroshenko refers to. But Republicans and far right US media have adopted the Goebbelsian strategy of endlessly repeating it in the hope that such repetition will cause it to get traction. It's the current version of "but her emails!".
Shokin’s own deputy testified that there was no active investigation into Burisma at the time of Biden’s actions. And not only was all this looked into as part of Trump’s impeachment, a Republican investigation launched in 2020 specifically to find any wrongdoing by Biden ended in an 87-page report that “contained no evidence that the elder Mr. Biden improperly manipulated American policy toward Ukraine or committed any other misdeed.” The claim that Biden did something wrong in Ukraine wasn’t true, isn’t true, and can’t be made true through repetition. Shokin was fired because he was corrupt, bad at his job, and everyone complained.
When the leader of their party is a four-times indicted, twice impeached, orange blob of mendacity, the only hope of the MAGA mob is to invest in a very dubious false equivalency.
Hunter Biden isn't Joe Biden. But if you really wish to compare presidential relatives, look to Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner who (unlike Hunter Biden) were in a position in the White House actually to influence policy. The Trump offspring and offspring-in law could conduct a clinic on corruption through capitalizing on their names.

Facts never change the minds of brainwashed cult members. But if you shout louder and longer than the Trump cult it will reduce the impact they have on others.

What if we could all pick our best friends to judge our actions, That's Trumps world in a nutshell, literally!
Tumblr media
How many of us, when on trial in a criminal case can appoint our own personal Judge to oversee the trial???
No on I've ever heard of!
But the Supreme Court Trump trial has done just that.
3 of the bastardize it as Trump has done that trial were appointed by Trump, to determine if he is criminally liable for overseeing the Jan. 6, 2021 Washington D.C. Capital takeover by his supporters when he lost the presidency and thought he shouldn't have.
Numerous scholars, historians, political scientists, and journalists have characterized those efforts to overturn the election as an attempted self-coup by Trump.
Ya see, The fact that someone could use our political system to bastardize it as Trump has done, and is presently doing, is a testament that the system was designed to favor the wealthy and not middle class Americans,....which are the majority of Americans,... always have been, because without the middle class there would be no labor to build the America we see today.
All I've got to say is if Trump isn't convicted we are all fucked, and now I know why Shakespeare wrote “let’s kill all the lawyers".....

In a crazy turn of events, a former top FBI official, who played a key role in the Trump-Russia collusion probe, was just sentenced to four years in prison for colluding with Russia. But it gets crazier 🤔

A government suffering from ETTD.
Tumblr media
August 4, 2022
Former GOP strategist turned never-Trumper Rick Wilson (pictured above after his escape from the dark side) is famous for coining the admonition "Everything Trump touches dies." A sentiment that couldn't be more on the nose because, throughout his pre-politics career, any endeavor connected with Donald Trump inevitably perished due to his incompetence, corruption and criminality.
Then, upon becoming chief executive of the federal government, Trump discovered an even wider scope for his lethal destructiveness. And for four years he utilized every government bureau within reach to serve his personal agenda of getting himself reelected, enriching himself at taxpayers' expense and wreaking vengeance on his perceived enemies.
One such federal agency is the Department of Homeland Security, whose officers were used during the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, OR to kidnap people off the streets. As NPR reported,
Personal accounts and multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining individuals with no explanation about why they are being arrested, and driving off.
You say you want more? How about the US Postal Service under Trump appointee Louis DeJoy failing to deliver mail-in ballots in several key states? Or Bureau of Prisons officers using pepper spray to clear protesters from DC's Lafayette Park so Trump could hold a campaign photo-op in front of a church? Or the Trump-selected administrator of the General Services Administration refusing to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election in order to impede his official transition as the new president?
There's also the IRS. We now know they conducted tax audits of two Trump foes in 2017 and 2019, Former FBI director James Comey and deputy director Andrew McCabe, both fired and smeared by Trump for refusing to halt the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russia. According to The New York Times, out of a few thousand returns the IRS picked for audit (from more than 150 million), Comey's and McCabe's were among those chosen. The IRS says it was just a random coincidence. Sure, you betcha. Oh, and Trump lackey Charles Rettig still heads that agency.
Finally, we have the DHS inspector general, acting secretary and acting deputy secretary (all Trump stooges) reportedly covering up the deleting of text messages sent while Trump's mob was attempting the overthrow of American democracy. With the possible exception of the Bureau of Weights & Measures, just about every government organization has been fatally compromised and corrupted by Trump. Someone should come up with a succinct phrase for that. Oh, wait, someone did.

« The paraphernalia of wealth is not simply about boosting Trump’s self-esteem. It is integral to his political appeal. While his history of bankruptcies, legal reversals and scandals has punctured his image among voters who disdain him, Republicans who love Trump still buy into his iconography as a hard charging businessman. That image was sent into overdrive by NBC’s "The Apprentice," which helped turn the star of a reality show into a president and modern American demagogue. »
— Stephen Collinson at CNN.
Trump is a nepo baby whose daddy (a participant in a KKK riot) gave him a HÜGE wad of cash. He spent it in high visibility ventures which mostly failed.
Column: A lengthy list of Trump’s disastrous business deals — compiled by his newest business partners
Trump was rescued by TV producer Mark Burnett who got him a TV show called "The Apprentice" where he portrayed a successful and savvy businessman.
People who saw the TV show were given the impression that Trump was good at business when in reality he was a corrupt dunce. It was sort of like putting a firefighter's helmet on Mrs. O'Leary's cow and then taking a photograph of her next to a fire hydrant.
Because image counts more than reality, the 21st century TV actor Trump obscured the 20th century business loser Trump.
Tumblr media
So many people embraced the mythology of the successful businessman while ignoring his frequent bankruptcies.
If enough people are disabused of the idea that Trump is a business genius, it will undercut his support enough to deny him another chance to turn the US into a failed state like Russia. Changing the minds of just 1% of soft Trump voters is a big fucking deal electorally.
BTW: Liberals have a difficult time with this idea, but to get a point across, it's necessary to repeat it – a lot. Don't think that just because you mentioned online someplace in 2019 that Trump is a business flop then that was sufficient. 😆 Trump was host of The Apprentice for 186 episodes. If you want to permeate people's thinking about Trump's reality in business then you need to repeat the truth almost as often. Repetition is your best friend when making a point or selling a product.

From the December 21, 2023 opinion piece:
Lavish world cruises, secret deals with moneyed donors, threats to step down unless someone ponied up with a pay raise, fishing trips with parties who have business before the court, an amicus brief industrial complex wholly bought and paid for by billionaire donations, leaked drafts, and secret speeches are not the stuff of constitutional democracy, or infallibility, or finality. When the hyperpolitical supercharged Trump cases catch up with the court—and that is beginning to happen, right now, this week—all that stench will run headlong into the questions about why the husband of the woman who went to the pep rally for the insurrection and the folks who lied to us all about Dobbs are objective enough to decide the outcome of an election. The same people entrusted with the protecting the reputation of the court have blundered into being wholly responsible for protecting democracy. Not one thing suggests they will take the latter any more seriously than they took the former.
