Death is a reminder of what we lost in mankind's fall
Opinion. Not fact, not truth.
I write my posts in a black and white manner. I mean to say whatever I say as pointed fact.... truth. I believe that truth is that way, solid, unyielding, unbending, unbreaking. Like the character and nature of God.
But what I am about to say is mere opinion. I have nothing scriptural to back it up. It is an observation, but still one I hold on to.
I don't believe that death is meant to be easy. I don't believe we can come to death with a nonchalant attitude. It is meant to hurt. It is never meant to be casual. It is a reminder --- a harsh reminder --- of all that we lost in the fall.
Grappling with death is God's way of showing us that this life is not permanent.... and never will be. That holding on to this life is futile... and meant to be. That the decay of age, and time, and universal entropy are inescapable --- but likewise, that there is more.
Augustine died 1700 years ago. But his words and life live on. Luther died 500 years ago, but God still uses him today. Someday I will die.... and my prayer is simply that my words be found truth-full and truthful. Death does not come without hope.
There is a single verse I have memorized and turned back to time and time again. It is the heart and essence --- the very definition of --- what it means to be "Christian". And it's found in the Book of Revelation.
It must be pointed out that the verse before this talks about Satan.... thus the "they overcame him..." is a reference back to the great dragon, the deciever, the devil....
And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. (Revelation 12:11)
They were not afraid to die.
Sondi, my mentor and dearest friend, lying on her deathbed, uttered to her husband "Trust God." She was not afraid to die. Even as Necrotizing Fasciitis was eating her alive... she did not fear death.
In 2010, when I faced death myself, my words to my wife were "God knows what He's doing." There was no fear.
And yet..... when we view death in others.... it is meant to remind us...... Life in this world is not, and never was meant to be, permanent. That this world has been utterly corrupted by the fall... and death is a cold, hard picture of that reality.
I'm awake well past my bedtime. I'm pondering death because tomorrow I must grieve and let go of a pet that was precious to me. A pet who's heart has failed him. Death is a reminder of the fall. Of everything we lost..... and how in Christ, we still have hope.... but only in Christ.

I know reddit has a reputation for... well... atheism but I am surprised to see r/atheism has 2.8m members versus r/christianity at 401k (and certainly a reasonable amount of those are non christians, but even if we go w a mostly Christian sub like r/TrueChristian we aren't breaking 100k)
so I had a look at other religious subreddits for comparison
r/atheism - 2.8m
r/buddhism - 678k
r/Witchcraft - 416k
r/christianity - 401k
r/islam - 271k
r/Hinduism - 150k
r/TrueChristian - 102k
r/Judaism - 97k
I'm sure ofc that raw member numbers aren't the full story (and obv not everyone in that subreddit is going to be of that faith) and activeness etc also means something but the huge gap between #1 and #2 is more than i expected.
it's also weird that if you ignore the top 3 the ranking broadly aligns with what you would expect in accordance with stats on religious demographics in the US.
I think in a way tho it does make sense; Christianity is statistically the biggest faith in the US by far, but if we assume reddit users are more likely to leave it, then atheism, new age/witchy stuff etc, or buddhism often seem to be the most appealing alternatives.

Religious people and porn addiction via /r/atheism
Religious people and porn addiction I am a member of r/Bible, r/Christianity and r/TrueChristian, mostly just for laughs. One thing I have noticed - there is a new thread by someone wanting help with porn addiction on an almost daily basis. Maybe I have missed them, but I don't see the same kind of threads in r/atheism even though I am sure there are atheists who struggle with that issue. Personally, porn bores the hell out of me (63M). But my wife (63F) and I have always had a great sex life, so I obviously have no interest in watching other people do it. I saw my fair share when I was much younger, but if I never saw any again, I wouldn't miss it. Is porn a bigger problem for believers than for non-believers? It sure seems that way based on what I see on Reddit. Submitted April 21, 2024 at 05:45PM by Stinger1066 (From Reddit https://ift.tt/XZUsr7H)

May 24th 2023
This morning set the mood early, woken up by thunder and lightning decided to skip school because I can’t get my hair wet nor my floor touching oxford pants, high heeled boots not heeled enough to save my pants from their destiny.
I would have loved not to skip so I could go see my crush (many of them) but he skipped too, my outfit was way too good to go to school today wearing it, nobody would have been there to see it!!! tragic.
I want to dedicate my time today to paint, work and get faded... too bad my pen’s running out and starting to taste like some diesel fuel type of shit but aye still gets me faded!!!!!!!!
After this pen runs out i’ll buy some real weed, some real green smelly buds, roll them up and smoke a good joint... nothing such like it, not even a pen can compare. Its a cycle, first I buy a pen love it... abuse of it then run out and after that i’m like ugh this shit only lasts 2 weeks and a half, so then I buy real weed a few grams, which I end up being paranoid before, during and after using it cause I'm like omg hope dad doesn't smell it on me!! whateverrr who cares imma buy that za and enjoy it.
I think the guy my friend likes is in love with me, he keeps low-key hitting on me and i can't help it but answer weirdly to the things he says to me... he subtly calls me cute, been 3 times already but not sure maybe he just being friendly hahah
My ex-bestfriend who we (you reader and I) absolutely hate got laid off, personally I think karma really been working on him but also wish he can get another job quickly... it’s hard out there #Empathy #GoodPerson #TrueChristian
I post on tiktok sometimes when i feel like it and 2 classmates from college who i never talk to found my account and stalked it idk what it means but the first thing i thought to myself was “oh one of these is in love with me” and i still think so u guys can take my word for it.
Today u should:
- Take a really nice shower, clean all them pores use a sponge.
-Drink an iced latte, no cream.
-Hit the pen once or twice. Blaze it a few times if u can.
-Post a thirst trap to no more parties in LA by Kanye West
Tip: a smile can get u further than u think, be wise, manipulate men.
See you later x

An honest Christian bathes in the promises of God with Unbounded hope.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart Lean not on your own understanding.
Why do we believe that we can dictate the terms of our salvation? I've met more than a few people in my life who call themselves 'christian' and yet reject scripture's authority, ability to speak for God, or even authorship. As if we can customize our Christian life.
Christianity is all --- or nothing. You cannot treat it like a buffet. You cannot say "I like the idea of heaven, but I don't want to acknowledge my sin -- even if the bible says it's a sin." "I reject what the Bible says". or worst redifine terms so that you feel comfortable.
The second half of that verse says this:
Acknowledge the Lord in all that you do and he will set your paths straight. (RE: He will guide you as to where you need to go)
The beauty of surrendering all...... is the promise that God ---- will ---- lead you. There is no doubts or confusion. God takes care of you (Matthew 6 The sparrows and the lillies) and will provide for you (Phillipians 4:19) ..... but it doesn't start until we put EVERYTHING in, lay down all the cards we want to hold back, and bow ourselves in submission to Him.
Life without Christ is chaos and confusion.
But scripture promises this to those who believe: Oh, the joys of those who do not     follow the advice of the wicked,     or stand around with sinners,     or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord,     meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank,     bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither,     and they prosper in all they do. (Psalm 1:1-3)
Our culture may rage and writhe in anxiety.... but an honest Christian bathes in the promises of God with unbounded hope.

The TrueChristian Reddit can eat my entire ass and I say that as a 100% card carrying Christian.
It's not TrueChristian it's more like TrueChristianNationalistAntichoicers. I just got banned for giving a legal but non-biblical response to a question about whether or not the 10 year old in Ohio should have been allowed to get an abortion.
YES.
And I will say it again for you assholes in the back. YES!
A 10 year old cannot legally consent to a sexual act. They can be coerced, but they cannot give legal consent to actually be with a person who is an adult. For those of you arguing about "Mother Mary" you have to remember that Mary had been preparing for her role as a wife and a Mom for YEARS and it made sense in the context of the situation. Thousands of years ago is not today, no child is mentally, emotionally, or physically able to withstand childbirth when they are THAT YOUNG and should have access to reproductive health care!!!
And for those alleged pro-life anti-choice peeps out there who view the pregnancy of a 10 year old as an opportunity to "make better choices" you can kiss my ass. That CHILD CANNOT make a CHOICE and let me remind you of exactly what Jesus Himself said about abortion in the New Testament:
...Oh that's right...
The son of God Himself didn't say shit. And I am pretty sure that abortion in some form existed in His day as well, in fact his Father gave us a nice recipe for it back in the old testament, remember the whole verse about bitter waters? Yeah that was an abortion. Fuck you to those of you who think it wasn't.
But that argument is irrelevant.
You know why you view a 10 year old's pregnancy as an opportunity? Because you fuckers FETISHIZE "innocent life", the only reason you want new blood is because you want new people that you can train up in"the right way" so that you have a new VOTING BLOCK. You don't like the old one, you don't like how informed we are and how you aren't able to pull the wool over our eyes so you will force us to give birth to a new generation that you can do exactly that to.
Ya'll wanna say the quiet part out loud now? I'm saying the quiet part out loud.
Ya'll accuse people of the left of being groomers but GROOMING IS THE EXACT REASON THE RIGHT WANTS MORE BABIES BORN!!! Ya'll think if you have enough "white people" who think your way that you won't die off or be bred out. The fact of the matter is, ya'll just feel threatened and don't want "the browning of America" to happen in 2050. You are fucking pathetic and it is not, not was it EVER about the lives of actual children. If it was we would not have nearly half a million kids in foster care, the only reason that these supposed "Christian families" won't adopt them is because usually they are black, brown, or neurodivergent. Also, I am not counting babies from other countries who get adopted - check our own adoption system statistics and not ones that you would get from Fox News either. Check US foster care statistics, please.
Don't come at me with "not all Christians" because in order to be taken seriously we have to fucking fix our shit, take a letter from Christ Himself and realize that His Kingdom is NOT OF THIS EARTH so he literally doesn't give a shit about our politics, and step the hell out of government and let rule of law preside again and stop gaslighting lawmakers into doing your fucking bidding! My government is not your church service! I believe in the same God that you do and I am ALLOWED to CALL YOU OUT!!!
How about from now on, if the Bible doesn't say shit about it, we don't either. I am so sick of you fuckers co-opting my religion into something that it was NEVER supposed to BE!!!
