vigilante justice is okay if it's performed by righteously angry middle aged cleaning ladies

The latest episode of True Detective: Night Country was great.
And it's so interesting how all the roles are "reversed". So many women are at the center of everything, and men are secondary characters, characters that are led by women, every single time.
Danvers is a real grey character like so many male characters are written. They didn't try to sprinkle any feminine cliché on her just so we "don't forget she's a woman". So is Navarro. They're both real ruthless women and at no point it feels "too much". They didn't write them as 2 men with boobs. They have their own feelings and weaknesses but they were smart enough to not put them in heels at any point to make sure we get that they're "women in charge". No "hysterical" episode, no "using their body" to get what they want, nothing between the lines that scream LOOK IT'S A STRONG WOMAN.
I also like how the native dimension of the story is 99% represented by women. And there's no take against men, they're just not pictured. Of course they're here (mostly miners too so it adds another layer to the whole thing), and nothing is said about men being bad or whatever. The writers just chose to not talk about them unless there's a reason to. They're husbands, coworkers, cops, miners, they're people living here. That's it. They don't even put these women under the spotlight in a cringe or pushy manner. They're just the face of the native community and what happens at the core of this community is carried by women.

What’s your preferred outcome for Navarro? I’m in the ‘she lived and is being gay w Danvers’ camp but I’ve seen convincing arguments for her dying but a lot of those hinge on Tsalal being a hallucination and her having died there and that doesn’t really track for me because it throws the reveal and ending out of whack. Also did you see the cleaning ladies coming? I saw some theories about Blair but I wrote them off and didn’t expect it. I really liked that for an answer though, brings the story full circle on a way that makes the finale rival 405 as my favorite. What’s yours?
as a viewer, i don't feel the need to choose
as someone in fandom, of course she lives. the whole point is to keep playing with the barbies forever. and in my humble opinion danvers and her don't know it yet but they're in love
i did not see the cleaning ladies coming, but i also did not spare much thought to the mystery tbh, i trusted the show to solve it. i was more focused on the characters and their misery and tbh after the 5th episode (also my fave) i probably could not have imagined a more merciful ending for everyone
episode 6 was literally the light at the end of a long dark tunnel

the last episode of true detective: night country was sooooooo good. issa lópez you have my sword. and my spear. and my axe.
i fucking loved the twist about the cleaning ladies being the ones who killed the men at tsalal in revenge for annie's murder. and that some of the elements (annie's tongue) were never explained. and that navarro learned her iñupiaq name. and that liz and leah seem to be working out their issues. and that rose aguineau knows a concerning amount about how to dispose of dead bodies. i was really impressed that this episode didn't feel overstuffed or like they were trying to tie up all the loose ends at once.

I just watched the first episode of True Detective: Night Country and it's a good start. I wasn't surprised to read that trolls review bombed the show on Rotten Tomatoes. So far, it's centered around woman, and addresses violence made to women, especially native women (but it's just the beginning so it's hard to outline the real topics). So obviously, bros must be angry to feel called out.
I really like that they chose to go for the supernatural vibe again. The first season was very light on it while making it actually omnipresent (the first season was extraordinary on so many aspects). This time, it's clearly there.
I hope they dive more into the local lore and legends.
ALSO. PLEASE. THIS MAIN CAST.
