Note
No idea if I send this one before (I think not) but here we go. I think Izu op could have worked! Controversial take, I know.
I mean...if Hori hadn't this mentality "Izu needs to suffer bc I hate him" this could be a 0 to hero story as Izu ends up having a powerful quirk. But for that to work we would need a few things
(Note how Hori seems to love the underdog trope but failing miserable)
1) time skip. Izu cant master ofa in a few weeks. On that note, the second user cant be bk 3.0
2) a writer who is interested in explored the ofa and what it can do. Like, what if Izu can have a quirk awaken? That would be cooler.
3) senseis who know what they are doing and who helped Izu not only physically but mentally. Wouldn't be swell if Izu stoped thinkig he is worthless? If bk got consequences and Izu CAN be mad at him for what bk did? Yes it would.
4) and a sense of limit. Yes, I did mentioned how op Izu can work but if he gets too op and can face all the big bad villains, if he can use ofa 100%...it would be a bit stalled in terms of writing "dont fret, super Izu is here". It would be Izu repeat AM's mistake. What I would do is make Izu, who after proper training and well used time skip earned how to use his quirk safely, has a support group. Ochako, Iida, Shoto and whatnot. Meaning is not just Super Izu alone.
Friendship wins.
But of course....Hori didn't went to this route. And the timeline is really ....a joke.
Anyway, to end. I do think the concept of op Izu could have worked if Hori had stopped his hate for Izu and focused on the mc and developed more ofa.
I... have mixed feelings about OP characters in stories, mostly because they don't do them right. The thing is, an OP character, on the scale we're talking about here, because in chapter one, All Might sets that ceiling of OP way up there? That is someone so... stupidly strong that they actually direct national policy just by their very existence; quite possibly the world changes because they exist. And I feel that, most of the time, stories either: A, ignore the implications that this person can beat up God and isn't hiding that fact, or B, makes some shallow attempts at acknowledging it, but quickly moves on from those attempts so they can fight their equally OP enemies without giving it it's due.
The point being is that introducing an OP person is something a writer should use carefully, the same way they should treat time travel, if they're not just some villain driven off by the power of love, friendship, this gun I found, and the McGuffin used to beat them.
...However, MHA is interesting to me in that it started off by doing it better than normal, with All Might. The story starts by insisting that All Might is so damn broken that Japan itself actually worked differently after he heroed for awhile, even though, as far as we can tell, he did nothing to actually try and manipulate national policy or anything like that.
He just existed, and everything changed in response.
And, while I admit I wasn't thinking that hard about it when I first read the story, the initial set up actually was in a great place to work with an OP Izuku... if almost everything after the initial setup went differently, anyways.
Let me explain.
So, early MHA, those initial chapters, just hinted at a lot of depth to it. Philosophical, legal, societal; part of the reason I, and probably others, fell in love so fast is that it was approaching the usual super hero thing from a new direction, and seeming to acknowledge the flaws in such a system the ways other stories generally don't.
Back then, it was the difference between being a Hero, the job description, and being a hero, someone who saved people, and how wildly disconnected those two terms were. The disparity between the weak and the strong, Quirklessness as something five seconds from being called a disability, a heroic system that had been slowly festering in on itself, for years and years and years, until we get people like Mt Lady, who caused god knows how much property damage just to kill steal a villain away from Kaminio Woods, who had the situation under control.
Into this toxic mess of a situation walks Izuku Midoriya: kind, smart, beaten down on for all his life for being weak, yet determined to stand up for what is right anyways, blinded by childish naivety and propaganda to how fucked up the world of heroes truly is.
And the man who changed Japan with his mere existence gave him his power, the power to stand above everyone else, to do anything he wants, because once he masters One For All, the only one able to stop Izuku? Would be himself.
And here's where it would have to change: Izuku's conflict, for most of the story, is simply about fighting; not about right or wrong, not should he do this, but can he do this? There is something he wants to earn, or a person he needs to beat, and so he tries to do it. Sometimes he does it by being smarter, more often he does it by being stronger, and sometimes, and too often for my tastes, or at least at the wrong times, he just can't.
Hori gives up on all the things that made MHA so interesting, only giving them empty lip service from that point on, so he can just do the usual shonen plot.
But imagine if he didn't. Imagine Izuku's conflicts being about idealism. He's strong, unbelievably strong, the second coming of All Might, acknowledged as such by the man himself, who may even admit that he is retiring. In a fight, Izuku wins, plain and simple; hell, he may have to worry about keeping his opponents alive rather than if he can beat them or not.
But that's not where the problems come from, beating X person in a straight up fight. The problems come from the system itself: a machine made to chew up idealistic kids and spit out cynical, money hungry heroes. An entire department in UA devoted to selling an image to the public, ruthlessly trying to take advantage of the new students while they're too new to realize what's happening. A bigoted, self-important teacher who hates him just for what he is, and is determined to ruin his career because he can. A government agency determined to control heroes and direct them to their own aims, who take an interest in this budding super star, and their pawn, merciless yet conflicted, who will kill to see their will done. A media system determined to get headlines, no matter the cost or who it may harm. A Number Two Hero ascendant, cruel and calculating, who uses his own offspring as pawns and views Izuku as a threat to his rise. Villains who, knowing they can't take him in a fair fight, try to beat Izuku in other ways, more complicated and sinister than a simple fight. Festering in his mind like a dark secret, Izuku's entire life as a Quirkless child, despised by the world for being Deku, for being useless, an old pain and shame that still defines him and shapes him, even if he's not longer Quirkless.
And with all this arrayed against him and his dreams, all Izuku has to guide him onto the proper path is his mentor, wise yet cynical and broken in his own ways, and his own innate spirit of heroism. And the choices he makes? Effects millions.
Leaning into what they said they were about, the League of Villains would not be a bunch of crazed murderers, but what Hori wants us to think of them: people beaten down by society until they felt they had no other choice but to fight back. Toga who isn't a deluded serial killer, Spinner and Compress with more development, and yes, the Dabi Benchmark of Insanity(TM) to keep them all sympathetic, because their purpose here isn't just as villains who have to be beaten... their purpose here is also about how heroes react to them.
To a LoV who is milder in what they do, so they still get heroic ire, still get labeled as, 'villains'... only for them not really to deserve that label, the hatred they get from the public, and the force used against them.
And Izuku, who is no longer a spectator but on the front line, sees that. He sees how they're getting tarred by the brush of 'villain', the way they're getting discriminated against because of their Quirks, and the eerie similarities it has to his own treatment as a QUirkless child.
And yet, the ones doing it are heroes, the ones he looks up to, and all but worshipped for his entire life, the ones supported by everything he's seen in his entire life, by the entirety of Japan.
And that is where the conflict is, that is what the story focuses on: what is right? What is a hero? What is a villain?
...
Well, that's how I would do an OP Izuku story, anyways.

The Silent Companions - Laura Purcell
Tumblr media
Summary: After the sudden death of her husband Rupert, a pregnant Elsie is sent to his neglected country estate, with only his cousin Sarah for company. The villagers are all scared of the house and, as Elsie and Sarah discover more about the history of the family through the diary of an ancestor, they begin to understand why. When mysterious wooden figures, painted to look exactly lifelike, begin moving around the house, seemingly on their own, Elsie begins to fear that the history of her husband’s family may dangerous even in the present.
Quote: “She had an urge to confess everything: tell him about the splinters on Rupert’s neck; the nursery; the garret; the handprint; the eyes. But to speak of such things made them a farce. You could not explain fear; you could only feel it.”
My rating: 3.0/5.0   Goodreads: 3.89/5.0
Review: Solid, but mostly unmemorable gothic horror. All the elements are here: a grieving widow unsure if she’s going mad, hostile villagers, family secrets, cursed dolls (though made of wood), a spooky house, and a tragic fire. It also leans, more problematically, on the trope of a child who is both physically deformed and dangerous. The pacing is great and the mystery interesting enough, but I didn’t feel like the book did anything particularly original. It scratched an itch, but didn’t have more of an impact than that.

Some last thoughts before episode 20...
Before I start on episode 20, I wanna go over just a few quick things, just to sorta recap some of my theories and predictions. A lot of this I went over in my Conspiracy Corner 3.0 post, so I’ll try not to repeat myself too much.
The Day of Unity Comes And your world is already lost
The Day of Unity is upon us. The end of the world is nigh. Can our heroes stop it? Probably. Maybe. I’m not sure exactly what they’re going to do or what their pan is. It is a commonly reoccurring trope within many stories that a if a plan is unspoken and not revealed to the audience beforehand, it will succeed. Whereas if a plan is presented to the audience, something will inevitably go wrong. Because tension and all that.
What I do know is that the CAtTs (more on them in a sec) have a plan to try and stop Belos’ mad plans. The Hexside Alliance (more on them in two secs) are most likely also going to try and stop it.
What is Belos’ plan then? He plans on draining the magic of all witches on the Boiling Isles with a draining spell. The magic energy is channeled through nine powerful witches, the Coven Head Witches. What the ultimate purpose of the spell is I’m not sure, but it appears its purpose is to wipe out all life in the Demon Realm.
As a side effect, this will somehow also release The Collector (more on them in three secs).
The Coven Against the Throne Hisssssssssss
Referring again back to my Conspiracy Corner 3.0 post, the Coven Against the Throne (or CAtTs for short) is a fusion of the Owl House Crew and the Traitorous Trio, with a few exceptions. This rebel group consists of Eda, Lilith, Luz, King, Hooty, Raine, Amber, Katja, Derwin, Darius, Eberwolf, and last but most certainly not least, Steve.
(oh, by the way, called it on Steve joining the good guys)
This group has a plan and a lot of skilled and powerful witches. Raine, Darius, and Eberwolf being part of it also throws a wrench in Belos’ plans, as they are needed for his draining spell to work properly.
The Hexside Alliance Goes on a school trip
While they haven’t shown up as an official rebel group yet, it was strongly hinted in Labyrinth Runners and I believe they will show up during the Day of Unity as allies to the CAtTs.
This group consists of Hunter, Amity, Willow, Gus, and various other Hexside students, as well as teachers, including Mattholomule, Skara, Viney, Edric, Emira and principal Bump. Hunter, with his insider information can hopefully orchestrate some form of attack plan.
I think it is a given that Hunter, Amity, Willow, and Gus will be there at the Day of Unity, seeing as they are very important characters. And any extra allies are always a good thing. Exactly what The Hexside Allaince will contribute with I don’t know, but I’m sure they’ll do something important.
The Lord of the Fireflies In The Collector’s Shadow
As I pointed out during O Titan, Where Art Thou, if Belos plans on exterminating all life in the Demon Realm, and The Collector just wants company after so long buried beneath the bones of Ymir, then their desires clash. With that in mind, I think it is very likely that The Collector will betray or go against Belos in some way. Maybe they’ll stop the big spell once they’re free or something.
It is very hard to get an exact read on The Collector. Based on what we learned in Edge of the World, this Grand Huntsman seems like some wrathful god. In Hollow Mind, he came off more as a childish and mischievous spirit. It is this level of unpredictability that made me label The Collector as a wildcard.
Fight through this, Blight Find the light at the end
Unless this is somehow the very first post of mine that you’re reading, you will by now know of my ”Alador will betray the Emperor and turn the abomatons against the Emperor’s Coven” theory. I’ve had it since… I don’t even remember when I first got it, but I think I brought it up in the Mid-Season Intermission I did between episode 10 and 11. So a while now.
I think that he will see Amity (and possibly Edric & Emira too, although he didn’t get an episode to bond with them) fighting against the Emperor’s Coven and chose to stand on the side of his kids. Odalia might also do that, but like… she didn’t get an episode where she bonded with Amity. Just saying.
For now, Alador remains a very useful potential ally to our heroes. Speaking of which…
Chiroptera Queen In the Forest of Misfit Palismen
Hey, remember when Luz promised Bat-Queen to help her find out about her past? I sure do. I don’t know if Luz does though, because there has been no follow-up on that plot thread at all. Still, she last appeared in Hunting Palismen, they did make a point of showing that Eda still has the whistle and that Bat-Queen still owes her a favor.
Now, I can see it going one of two ways during the Day of Unity. Either Eda calls on BQ to help  out during their attack. I do think it might be some nice karmic retribution to see Belos swarmed by a small army of damaged palismen.
The other way is if things go wrong, Eda might call on Bat-Queen to get them out of there.
In Conclusion
I can go on and on, imagine countless scenarios, come up with all the theories and predictions I want. And at the end of it, I would still have no idea what will happen. The only way for me to find out what happens is to just watch the episodes. Which is why I will do that now.
…right after I make one more post.

Sumeru: King Deshret and the 3 Magi
where to fuckin start with this one
Okay, I liked that we opened this act on the decision to psychologically torment Setaria into working with us because we needed an In with the Akademiya by pretending to be the envoys of King Deshret... only for it to turn out that Cyno, an In with the Akademiya, exiled himself (off-screen) because he couldn’t agree with what they were doing (which he discovered off-screen). I wonder. If we could have. Connected these things more efficiently. Somehow.
On that note, Genshin really wants us to know Cyno is scary, but never actually shows him doing anything particularly intimidating besides crossing his arms menacingly and smacking swords with Alhaitham. It also wants us to know what a big deal it is that he left the Akademiya. If Cyno had been, say, an enemy in 3.0 that turned his back on the Akademiya to work with us in 3.1, that might have worked better.
Also, we psychologically tormented Setaria???
How did the traveller know Dottore was No. 2 of the Fatui Harbingers. Did they read the floating text. Is that an actual thing. Is that how they also know who ~the Balladeer is.
Also, if Nahida is going to heroically sacrifice herself so we can escape brainwashed citizens, at least make them attack us? They were just yelling how cool we were, christ.
I have a dream. And that dream is that one day... Scaramouche’s lore and motivations will be exposited when the actual Scaramouche is in a 50metre radius of the Traveller. I guess it’s 2% better than usual that Scaramouche voice acted it this time, but “inhaled hallucination smoke and got Balladeer lore” is the worst way we’ve gotten it so far.
I also like the flashback characters that had physical resemblances to Kazuha. I also like that we’re still hyping the Scaramouche/Kazuha connection when they’ve never met.
Also you need to understand I don’t give a shit. I don’t know Scaramouche. I’ve barely met him. I think he’s been on-screen for a collective 3 minutes total. The patchwork god deal is conceptually very cool, but the execution is absolute dogshit. Hopefully Dottore will be handled better (I’m a lot more interested in him than the others) but dear god the fatui’s showcase up until this point has been abysmal.
Alhaitham is actually being minutely shady now, and the fact that he’s turned into a massive bitch between patches (+his arguments with Cyno) make him a more enjoyable character to me.
Candace on the other hand felt very tacked on. I think her only real notable contribution was her telling off the Eremites that kidnapped the Mad Scholars for not thinking of the consequences of their actions... which. Well. Bad Rebels Rebelled The Wrong Way Against An Oppressive Regime And Now They’re The Bad Guys sure is a trope that exists, don’t it.
Whatever Candace and Cyno’s connections to King Deshret were probably should’ve at least been mentioned here. Cyno staring meaningfully up at the priest’s grave after the flashback... I would like to know the significance of them both having the Anubis Headdress? Without reading The Lore?
in absence of more information i choose to believe cyno’s thought process was ‘aww shit yeah that guy had SUCH a bitchin hat’
God, the Deshret lore dump....
Rukkhadevata Did Nothing Wrong And This Upturns My Entire Belief System However Will I Cope-
. . . . .
Ok i am over it now let’s be friends and also allies
i mean, i guess that’s a way to resolve a conflict. technically.
Like, the pieces are here for a more interesting and coherent story than Inazuma’s. It’s just. The character writing. Ghhhhhhhh-
wait wasn’t cyno supposed to tell bad jokes? what happened to that

On her latest excursion – a trip to the far-off, uncharted moon called Alpha – she discovers a stowaway on her ship: John Murphy. He represents a past she’s trying to forget and there’s a tension between them she can’t get rid of. A reason she hides amongst the stars. But as desperate times thrust them back into operating side by side, her growing attraction to him becomes more difficult to ignore as they work to heal together.

“i paint you in the corner of my mind” – After Clarke Griffin’s parents die in a house fire, the courts determine that it’s best for her to grieve and recover away from the city she’s grown up in. But when the sadness and mourning remain, he deems it necessary to acquire her a companion. Both as a teacher and a friend, Bellamy Blake is an unexpected addition to her new life. And there’s something about him that also ignites new feelings within her that she can only pray that he reciprocates.
▸ Strangers to Lovers AU for Chopped: The 100’s After the Kitchens Close
Complete, 9.7k words | moodboard
“Per Aspera Ad Astra [Through Hardship to the Stars]” – It's boredom one fateful night that leads Clarke Griffin to ditching the first basketball game of the season. That same boredom then leads to her choosing to hang out with one Bellamy Blake – which should feel weirder than it is since they haven't really been friends since his sister's disappearance two years ago. But then their night really takes a turn. The two of them discover a strange audio frequency that could change the small town of Arkadia, New Mexico – and the future – forever. Dropped phone calls, forgotten tapes, and strange lights follow Bellamy and Clarke as they race through the night on a scavenger hunt to discover the truth. Octavia Blake grows up on stories of a fearsome bandit named Charmaine Diyoza and dreams of one day going on her own intergalactic adventures. Along the way she makes allies and enemies –– but one person in particular guides her along the way. A cyborg named Lincoln helps her blossom on the ship and come into herself and she can't help but fall for him, even as she learns that not everything is as it seems. FEATURE FRIDAY: AUTHOR EDITION
Again, I want to apologize for the lack of updates with these. I’d also like to thank the writers who are being SO patient as they wait for a Friday when they will be going up. Just hang with me while I find my rhythm once more!
This week we are featuring queen bee @notevenjokingfic!
We all know her and love her, and to us, she’s always been Notevenjokingfic or NEJF for short. She has also been in the fandom for a looooong time, since 2014! (Wow, she definitely has patience!)
She starting writing Outlander fanfic back in December of 2016 when she was doing a Secret Santa gift for @writtenthroughtime. That story was Escape and  surprising it was only supposed to be 12 chapters!
NEJF’s favorite character to write?  Jamie, actually! She says:
“I guess I like to write from Jamie's POV because we didn't get much of that in the books. I like him to be as well-rounded as Claire.”
And while Jamie is her favorite character to write, her least favorite character to  write is Bree.
Her favorite piece of work would be the Residency Years in Escape. Notevenjokingfic feels like she did justice to Claire’s dealing with her miscarriage and its aftereffects. She’s also really proud of how Clair(e)voyance 3.0 ended up turning out. She says that case was “pretty tight from start to finish.” (I think I speak for us all when I say, we loved it too!)
Notevenjokingfic’s favorite quote from the series is: “It has always been forever for me, Sassenach.” (And yes! We all soon!)
Her inspiration for stories? I’ve got the scoop:
Escape was a Christmas gift, so what is more Christmas-y than the 12 Days of Christmas? I honestly can't remember how I hit upon the Origami aspect, but once I did the entire fic just fell into place.
Clair(e)voyance was born on a reread of DIA, where Claire holds the skull and "sees" that the person didn't die peacefully. I thought it would be cool to explore Claire with "the sight" as a forensic scientist, and then naturally Jamie would have to be a cop. On the way to work the song HeavyDirtySoul by 21 Pilots came on, and who Claire was, her backstory, and how she and Jamie would meet just fell into place.
The Beauchamp Chronicles was inspired by The Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix. I really wanted to explore the idea of Claire descending into this madness over finding Jamie.
Since she’s a master of storytelling she also has some killer advice for writers. NEJF says to write slowly. For her, stories have to be solidified in her head before she even attempts to write it. And then once she’s started, she has her story almost completely finished before the first chapter is even started. She says that she’s a Virgo: perfectionist, careful, and detail oriented.
Her favorite fanfic trope is: “Oh no this motel only has one room with a single bed, what will be do?!” (And hey, that’s one of Librarian Waffs favorites too!)
Her favorite Outlander novel is the first book because she says that it is absolute magic.
You can visit @notevenjokingfic and hit the menu. From there, you can pick a story and take your pic of whatever story floats your boat!
Stay tuned for next week, where we will learn all about another Author on our Catalog!

And Now, an Important Message from Tommy dos Santos (Kill Giggles Promo Teaser) from Jaysen Buterin on Vimeo.
Want more behind-the-scenes brilliance from the set of KILL GIGGLES?!? Then you better hurry because there's just a few days left to become a part of the movie magic! Check out the IndieGoGo campaign here: igg.me/at/killgiggles because if you don't... well, we don't want to be the ones to have to tell this guy there's no bubble gum at the crafty table - would you?!?
Everyone has seen and heard the story of the maniacs, the monsters, the serial killers who dress up as clowns to spread fear and terror. But what if there was a serial killer OF clowns, terrorizing them with fear instead? From the mad mind of Jaysen P. Buterin, writer and director of the award-winning films Between Hell and a Hard Place, Don’t Let the Light In and The Corner, comes Kill Giggles – a harrowing Hitchcockian horror story that will take a timeless terror trope and turn it on its rainbow wig-covered head.

SYNOPSIS: Tommy dos Santos wasn’t born a psychopath, really, nor was he made into a sociopath, per se. He was something entirely new, and he was walking his own path – a path that will run red with the blood of the foulest most fiendishly frightening creatures ever conceived by man… CLOWNS!
No longer the madmen and monsters that nightmares are made of, now it's the clowns who are the victims, running for their lives from a killer who won’t stop until every single one of them is dead. As Tommy’s body count rises, he finds himself getting closer and closer to what he thought was a ghost, the clown king known as “Giggles,” and wonders… if laughter can’t die, how about Giggles?

4.0 out of 5 stars Continuation and transition
5.0 out of 5 stars Another Success Treachery's Tools by L.E. Modesitt, jrThis is the newest book in the excellent Imager series. I had lamented recently at the infrequency of Modesitt books and then just weeks after getting Recluce Tales, this book appeared at my door inciting a WhooHoo on my part. The previous sentences should leave no doubt in your mind that I really enjoy Modesitt's work. This book takes up 13 years after the Madness in Solidar. The Collegium, home of the imagers. Times are a changing and High Holders and Factors are butting heads with the weak Rex, Lorien doing nothing to alleviate the growing friction.Modesitt seems to have a philosophic leaning that is uniquely his own. He imbues his lead characters with soul searching, depreciating humor and pragmatic consciences. Sometimes good people need to do bad things and bad things do happen to good people. Modesitt doesn't hesitate to knock off characters that you like and that provides a realism that fuels the plot.I've tried to read everything L. E. Modesitt, Jr. has written. His books are entertaining and thought provoking.I highly recommend.Site: [...] Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Sets up well for the next installment in the series The Imager Portfolio has been my favorite fantasy series for years. This prequel entry is no exception. It moves the overall plot ever closer to the abolition of the monarchy that obviously must happen to set up the backdrop for the first book in the series, by presenting a Rex who isn't really qualified to rule. The book stands alone well enough and ends without a cliffhanger, but things are well set up for the next installment. I hope that one doesn't take too long. I'd like to read it during my lifetime. One warning to some of the reviewers of my own book, The Summoned King. This one is full of politics and military tactics and action. If you don't like a lot of that in a fantasy novel, don't read this one, or any books in the series. Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps Maturing Modesitt keeps maturing, at least in the Imager universe (can't really call it a trilogy any more). Without spoiling anything, he keeps adding depth .. in this case, dealing with the onset of age as well as a particularly devious conspiracy.Technical critique: proofreading in the Kindle edition has a few lapses - generally in necessary-but-not-that-interesting passages, suggesting that the proofreader was following the story rather than following copy - and that there was only one proofreader.** Mild Spoilers Ahead **Other signs of maturity - (1) Unlike "Madness," the hero doesn't off his boss in this one - a Modesitt trope, and (2) someone else gets to detonate the Ultimate Surprise Bomb.** More serious spoiler **There's also some unsubtle foundation-laying for the (next) sequel, but since I really want more Imager that's a feature rather than a bug. (It would be interesting to see this world from the POV of a non-imager living in the outlands.) Go to Amazon
3.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Miss, IMHO This was a book which involved a main character and his situations written from a perspective that just didn't interest me. I'm really sorry about this and it wouldn't be fair to actively review it. The book was well written and I enjoyed some of the other characters as well as the overall plot. In general, I highly recommend everything else Mr. Modesitt has written. It's just that the main character in this book doesn't engage me for some reason. I liked this character in the first book of the series, but not this one. Go to Amazon
4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely read this series in order for maximum enjoyment. Mr Definitely read this series in order for maximum enjoyment. Mr. Modessit's world building and character development often spans many volumes. While his avid fans enjoy the depth and breadth of such provided over the course of the Imager Portfolio series, it really would be best to start with "Imager".This novel continues the story arc of Alastair d'Imagisle which began in Madness in Solidar. The plot revolves around socioeconomic pressures building in Solidar between various factions and what Alastair does to prevent widespread breakdown of Solidaran society. Go to Amazon

Final Round!
It’s officially time to VOTE for the Final Round of TROPED Madness 3.0! The structure is simple! Our two writers are going head-to-head, and its your job to chose who gets CHOPPED, and who becomes our TROPED MADNESS CHAMPION! For the voting, please select the one (1) fic that best used the prompt {Horror + turned evil au + fic written as messages/recordings}!
You can vote here:
The two fics that we received for this round can be found below, or on AO3 here! Each fic follows the theme [Horror], includes the tropes [Turned Evil AU] and [Write your fic in the form of letters/diary entries/video diaries/prerecorded audio messages/etc.], and have included the focus characters [Josephine (The 100) or Carrie (JATP)]! When you vote, please be sure to take into consideration the USE of all these elements, because, as with all other TROPED events, the purpose is to select the authors who best utilize the requirements!
———
The Good the Bad and the Gone (Rated M) [The 100 - Emori x John Murphy]
Summary: A house left by a distant relative sounded like a dream come true to Emori, until she finds the diary of Josephine Lightbourne. What happened to the woman writing the diary? And what does she want with Emori now?
pitchforks and proof (Rated M) [The 100 - Octavia & Josephine]
Summary: It has been a week since Clarke became the Dark One - and a week since the first murder took place. While there is nothing directly correlating Clarke's new status with the increase in Sanctum's daily murder count, and while Clarke seems to be handling her new powers rather well, suspicions are still being raised around town. Well, not around town. Most of the town seems to think it impossible that Clarke could be the killer, even with a corrupting power living within her. Suspicions are the opposite of being raised in the general public. Josie and the newly powerless Octavia, however, have their suspicions fully raised, and have every intention on determining whether Clarke truly is hiding her powers as well as she appears, and stopping the killer, whoever it may be, before their entire town is taken down.

TROPED Madness is almost here!! Are you ready?!
It's time for our third annaul March Madness Fanfic Writing Challenge! This event will have writers going head-to-head with one another…and this time the losers will be CHOPPED! Quicker rounds, different tropes each round, and sudden death in the Bunker Brackets. Do you have what it takes to battle till the end?
If so, sign up here:
If you've never participated in a TROPED Madness Event, here's how it works!
The writers will be given a set of one (1) theme and two (2) tropes, and our writers will then have 120 hours (5 days) to write a short fic (between 1k-5k) and submit it anonymously! At the end of the writing period, fics will go head-to-head in a bracket-style showdown and voters will decide which author will move on to the next round, and get another chance at being named TROPED CHAMPION!
This challenge, like all other TROPED Events, will be anonymous! The sign up list will remain private, and the author of a fic will only be revealed once that author has been chopped to maintain the anonymity of the participants through multiple rounds! This event can have up to 5 rounds, including a qualifying round to get us down to either 8 or 16 participants, and then either three or four rounds after that!
This challenge will also be an unrevealed challenge! Each round, we will keep the fics hidden until the writing period has ended, and then we will reveal them all at once. This will allow the head-to-head aspect of the challenge to go more smoothly, as you’ll read the fics going up against each other closer together in time.
All fics written by a writer will remain anonymous until they are chopped, or named the TROPED Champion, so please be careful not to post your fics anywhere other than our AO3 collection until we give you the go ahead!
This year, we are considering making our event a multifandom event! Please let us know your thoughts in the second question on the sign up form! We have chosen Focus Characters for The 100 and Julie and the Phantoms, which we will announce when we know for sure how this event will proceed! (Feel free to guess, though. We love a good guessing game 😉!) The chosen themes, however, are listed below!

———
i could be your perfect disaster (Rated T) [9-1-1: Lone Star — Carlos Reyes x TK Strand]
Summary: He knocks. For a moment, Carlos thinks no one will answer. Just as he’s about to give up and return to his partner, the door squeaks open, revealing a young man around Carlos’ age with dark hair and the most gorgeous eyes Carlos has ever seen in his life. He swallows, trying to remember why he’s there.
“Hello? I’m Detective Reyes with Austin PD,” he states, taking in the way the man’s posture turns defensive. “Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions?”
Or: While investigating a murder at a local college, Carlos meets an enigmatic TA
Speak to Me in Riddles (Rated M) [The 100 — Wells Jaha & Niylah]
Summary: Wells and Niylah have been partners solving murders for years, and they are very good at what they do. When a murdered woman is found in a small town, the mystery only starts with why the woman was hiding her identity. In order to find her killer they first have to find out who she really was.
TRIGGER WARNING: This does deal with themes of murder and the subsequent investigation, but there are very few specific details and nothing particularly graphic.
Your type of mind, so hard to find (Rated T) [Bridgerton — Anthony Bridgerton x Kate Sharma]
Summary: When Dr. Danbury sends her students on a quest to find ancient religious relics scattered throughout London, Kate Sharma is very displeased to find out that, due to her original partner dropping the class, she has been paired with Dr. Danbury's annoying, scatterbrained Teacher's Assistant, the ever infuriating (and ridiculously handsome) Anthony Bridgerton.
The Charred Chophouse (Rated T) [A Series of Unfortunate Events — Klaus Baudelaire & Carmelita Spats]
Summary: Fourteen years after leaving the island with his family, Klaus is perfectly content with his ordinary, low-profile life as a college professor.
Of all the people from his old life, it's Carmelita Spats who shows up to drag him right back into danger. Naturally.
see the white bees swarming (Rated T) [The 100 — Wells Jaha x Roan]
Summary: Sanctum is not a place that people visit. So when their second visitor in mere months rolls into town on his motorbike, Roan isn't surprised when his mother tasks him with figuring out just why Wells Jaha is gracing their town with his presence. Will the gig be as easy as Roan speculates it to be, or will the mysterious stranger give him more than he bargained for?

Round One!
It’s officially time to VOTE for Round One of TROPED Madness 3.0! The structure is simple! Our four writers have been paired up in two head to head brackets, and its your job to chose who moves forward to the final round, and who gets CHOPPED! For the brackets, please select the one (1) fic that best used the prompt {Action/Adventure + character is badly injured + cliffhanger}! The writer with the winning fic will move forward to The Final Round!!

You can vote here:
https://forms.gle/ReaEwoC4c6YV8oVFA
The four fics that we received for this round can be found below, or on AO3 here! Each fic follows the theme [Action/Adventure], includes the tropes [Character is badly injured and ...] and [Cliffhanger], and have included the characters [Gaia (The 100) or Julie (JATP)]! When you vote, please be sure to take into consideration the USE of all these elements, because, as with all other TROPED events, the purpose is to select the authors who best utilize the requirements!
--------
where you never, never have to worry about grown up things again (Rated M) [The 100 - Clarke Griffin x John Murphy]
Summary: Maybe it should have fazed Clarke that she was currently in Neverland on a quest to save the daughter she'd given up from said daughter's evil grandmother who was currently a teenager. Maybe it should have fazed her that she was on said quest with her daughter's sometimes evil adoptive mother, her own estranged parents who were the same age as her, her ex's almost definitely still evil sister, and fucking Captain Hook. Maybe it should have fazed her that she kind of sort of maybe probably had a thing going on with a certain one handed pirate.
Maybe all of that should have fazed her, but, at this point, it was just another fucking Tuesday.
follow the heart i believe in ('cause in the past it's done me so good) (Rated T) [The Witcher - Jaskier & Yennefer]
Summary: "And why didn't you just go to Geralt with this and move on with your life?" Yennefer asks wearily, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Jaskier scoffs at her. "I am not speaking to Geralt again until I get an apology from him. I still have some self-respect, thank you very much."
"So you're going to risk your life protecting his adopted daughter instead?"
"Jesus, I want him out of my life and I want him to suffer. I don’t want his kid dead.”
"But you won't talk to him?"
"Self-respect, Yennefer."
“...You need to take a good, hard look at your priorities."
(Six months after Geralt breaks both of their hearts, Jaskier and Yennefer find themselves in the strange position of being the only people who can protect Ciri's secret identity as a vigilante superhero.)
No Place To Hide (Rated M) [The 100 - Gen Fic]
Summary: What was supposed to be a normal morning coffee run quickly turns into a fight for survival when two men with guns burst in and take Gaia and everyone else in the convenience store hostage. Fear is a given, but amidst the terror Gaia finds a strength she never knew she possessed.
Trigger Warning: This fic depicts a situation in which a store is held hostage by gunmen who open fire. The violence is mostly implied or non-graphic and there is some mention (again non-graphic for the most part) of injury and death due to gun violence. Please take heed of this before reading.
the cold never bothered me anyway (Rated G) [Golden Sun - Piers & Mia]
Summary: The air is impossibly cold.  As Piers takes one wobbling step, then another, clutching his cloak around him and shivering against the frigid air, he can’t help but wonder how on Weyard he got himself into this mess.  His entire body aches and he can feel the pain blossoming in his side but still he presses onwards, his gaze fixed on the lighthouse stretching towards the sky at the horizon.  With the snow billowing around him, rarely settling on the ground, it’s difficult to even register where he’s stepping.
Or: Mortally injured, Piers makes his way to Imil, where Mia can help him. After that, it's only natural to fall back on their adventurous ways
