There's something kinda poetic about Number One, a character that was a high ranking woman on a 60s tv show who was removed from the story because the network said "no" to a female first officer, getting the storyline she is today. The trial is an allegory for a lot of things, but seeing Number One go through what she has in canon and regain her rightful place on the bridge has a poetic resonance to it, considering the real life bts things happening over the last 60 years. Ad Astra per Aspera indeed, Ma'am.

So in Astarion's Good route he breaks the cycle of abuse and chooses to NOT follow in Cazador's footsteps, gives the other spawn the chance to live and prove themselves, and starts caring about more then just his own safety.

Everyone is so proud of him for it, he's very happy after the fact, and deeply/sincerely thanks you for believing in him and loving him as he is.

And his reward at the end of the game (at least unromanced) is to... have to tearfully run off to find shade as the sun starts to burn him again. And that is the last time you see him in game.

But in his Bad route you help him sacrifice 7000 souls to ascend, keeps the ability to walk in the sun, and gets to start plotting world domination.

Larian I'm getting some mixed messaging here.

Imagine Wes’ personality but the exact opposite. His time on the throne and the shadows in his mind have corrupted his heart, turning him into a ruler full of pure malice and evil, only wishing to see the inhabitants of the Constant suffer endlessly.

SO TRUE.... Seeing a genuinely cruel Wes would be very interesting since it's such a jarring change from him normally!
