Es con gran decepción que hemos decidido no participar más en Tribal Fest®.

Ha salido a la luz que publicaciones ofensivas, fotografías y álbumes de fotos, los cuales incluían objetificación sexual, declaraciones despectivas y comentarios sexistas,  eran publicadas regularmente en un grupo privado de Face Book. La persona que facilitaba este grupo y participaba en dicho comportamiento está involucrada in la producción de Tribal Fest.

Debido a la involucración de esta persona en el festival y su acceso a este, mucho de este contenido estaba enfocado hacia profesoras del Tribal Fest, participantes y asistentes y su blanco eran nuestros amigos, colegas y estudiantes. Este comportamiento fue una violación y abuso de confianza.

Como líderes y miembros en esta comunidad, nos esforzamos por crear espacios seguros y positivos para la autoexpresión, crecimiento personal y sanación. No podemos participar en un evento o asociarnos con una organización cuyos miembros usan su postura en nuestra comunidad para involucrarse y promover estereotipos, deshumanización y los comentarios denigrantes. No podemos participar en un evento o apoyar una organización que no refleja nuestra propia moral, ética y creencias.

No deseamos iniciar una campaña en contra de nadie o combatir odio con odio. Al contrario, esperamos atraer la atención al profundo impacto negativo del habla despectiva hacia cualquier grupo de personas de modo que algo positivo resulte de esta experiencia.

Estamos agradecidos con Kajira por el esfuerzo y la visión que ella ha puesto en crear este evento de 15 años, el cual ha nutrido a la comunidad de la danza oriental tribal. Nosotros la valoramos y honramos sus contribuciones a nuestra forma de arte. Nuestra decisión no es un reflejo de nuestros sentimientos hacia ella como persona o bailarina.

Nuestra no-participación viene solo después de mucha reflexión y deliberación. Cada uno de nosotros llego a esta decisión de manera individual, pero nos mantenemos juntos como una comunidad.
