When there's a significant skills gap between two grapplers the better of the two is invariably going to decide how things go.
Does the better grappler want to practise their escapes, or their finishes. The thirty minute video match Kyong and Teah just finished for Sandra was a very sweaty affair, and because it's the finish that people want to see, Teah has dropped a lot of submissions. Taping over, on a whim, both women are wondering if the other would like to keep going. Teah asks. Kyong happily agrees.
It bears repeating, in Jiu-Jitsu you win or you lose, and Teah feels like she's already improved her game after 30 minutes with the Judo black belt. In fact, all of a sudden it seems Teah has the advantage. Full mount, back control, side control and north south. This close to the choke out. Missed the arm bar by *that* much. And then, all of a sudden...
Nothing is working any more.
Kyong wanted to practise her escapes for a bit. Now she's back to practising her finishes. And although Teah is caught tight in this triangle, when Kyong starts trying to grip the arm she can no longer decide whether she needs to worry more about the choke or the arm bar....

The simplest way to describe what makes a triangle choke work is that the sides of your neck get squeezed by two things, your opponent's leg or arm on one side, your own shoulder on the other. To escape you need to either twist in such a way that you relieve the pressure on at least one side of your neck or, better yet, find a way to extract your trapped arm or change the position of the trapped limb such that it's not crushing into your neck.
This could be from twisting or turning, sliding your upper arm forward away from the side of your neck, or better yet, moving in such a way that you are able to pull your arm free. For example, in this instance, if Kyong were to move her body forward in a manner akin to folding towards Dani's torso, that would have the effect of wedging Dani's legs apart and Kyong pulling her own head and arm back and down, potentially getting her trapped arm free and giving her a chance to escape.
That's an excellent option in fact.
Definitely the one she needs to do.
She just needs to do that.
Simple as...
It seems the space between Dani's legs hasn't expanded much. Hasn't expanded at all. Feels even tighter in fact...
If Kyong is looking a little confused, it's possibly because she's struggling for some other ideas.
