My, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a beer review here, hasn’t it? I really should try to get back into the habit, especially with the always increasing variety of great beers that have been making their way into my fridge, like this Glorioso Italian Pilsner from Left Field Brewery. I’m admittedly still not 100% sure what makes a pilsner “Italian” – or in the case of one brewed here in Canada, “Italian-style”, I suppose – but every one I’ve tried has been crisp and dry like a German pils, but with a more prominent herbal character, and generally quite aromatic from generous dry-hopping. Glorioso ticks all of those boxes, and finishes with a lovely lime leaf note that lingers on the palate. Mark from the brewery kindly sent me this as well as their new Goldpanner Smoked Black Lager, and tells me that both of them will be pouring at the Dominion City Rooted in Place Festival, so go have a taste there if you’re in Ottawa this weekend, or head to the source at the Left Field taproom if you’re in Toronto.

Quite a tasty beer by @cameronsbrewing. This English Style Ale was pretty much on point. I like the twist on the style with the more American style hops with a clear direction change from the floraly-dank British hops. I think that the hardest thing to do with any type of English Ale is to get the water profile down. This is definitely not the smooth and mineral heavy Burton or Edinburgh type water profile. Excellent beer either way and I will look for this guy again! #6900 Bellwoods x Superflux Fromage Homage (Canada) This bad boy is Belly’s take on Superflux’s The Creamery cheesecake-inspired beer, and mate, it actually tastes like cheesecake. Shouts to @notionbaby! It’s wild. Coming in at 5.5%, it’s essentially a milkshake IPA (#TeamLactose) with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, lactose, vanilla and graham crackers. Lord. It pours a hazy deep purple with a foamy head and a fruity nose, the body is smooth and creamy with vanilla and graham up front, the berries dominate (they call it bumbleberry due to the combo), it’s juicy yet dessert-like (it’s kinda trippy), hella silky, balanced, insanely crushable without being too sweet, wrapping in a dry, clean finish.
