Puella Magi Madoka Magica AU

I actually made this one some time before I conceptualized the other aus I’ve been posting recently but I haven’t been suuuuuper confident about the plot? This is one of the ones where I’m not sure if I want to write it out fully as a completely done fic despite having most of the elements planned.

As far as the story goes, I actually drew on elements from this one Homestuck x Madoka Magica fanfic I read a long while back but can’t locate anymore - it didn’t follow the exact plot of the original show and it was really engaging with the characters acting like they would in that type of universe. That’s basically what I tried to go with here.

The first year of high school is starting, and there’s a new girl in town. Hoseki Kohaku has just moved into Tokyo from a rural village along with her father and sister. Concerned for her social adjustment, Kohaku’s step-cousin Ishigami Senku asks his friend Ogawa Yuzuriha to look out for her and show her around town, which she does gladly. However, strange things are afoot in the city, and the girls are being watched by a strange pink and white creature who has sinister plans for them...

TLBYE complete!!! hcs & loose ends

Chapter 18 out of 18 is a few short scenes and two epilogues. Here it is! http://archiveofourown.org/works/10256780/chapters/24869325

Part of me thought I’d never finish this, so I’m still reeling from posting that final chapter. Here are some random hcs and details from this au that never made it to the fic.

* The guys bullying Hajime in Yamagata could never get him to fight back, so they ended up beating each other up and telling everyone Hajime attacked them. This was the main thing that fueled all of that “Iwaizumi is a threat to the team” crap.

* Kunimi knows that Kindaichi will improve a ton very soon, but for now he is holding his own skills back so that they are always grouped together at practice. Plus, Kindaichi needs a translator whenever he gets too emotional.

* Akao and the Class Rep are still together. His parents won’t stop asking them about grandchildren.

* Mizoguchi cried for hours once he got home and told his girlfriend about Oikawa.

* The epilogue is maybe a year-ish after the surgery.

* Hajime and Tooru’s argument “reset”: when one of them kisses the other on the cheek, both of them have to stop talking. The person who was kissed gets to pick a place where they continue, and usually during the walk there (still silent) they calm down a bit. When they arrive, that person also gets to talk first, although Tooru often prefers sulking in silence and forcing the first move on Hajime.

* Yahaba is the captain of Seijoh’s team when he becomes a third-year. Watari is vice-captain.

* Tooru has been, and still is post-surgery, scared of saying he loves anybody, because he’s afraid that his body will take a turn for the worse which will make it impossible for him to support them in any way. The next time he says it to Hajime will be when Hajime convinces him to share an apartment even though they attend different universities.

* The play that Issei is so angry about at the dinner is the one Tooru is surprised by from the Karasuno match, where Kyoutani can run like hell and charge across the court because everyone has learned to dodge him. Hajime was distracted during one of the matches that day, and he collided with Kyoutani.

* Akao’s restaurant serves traditional Japanese food, but he looks somewhat like he works at a burger joint

* On the day he went running and met Tooru, Hajime planned on hanging out with Issei and Hiro at the cafe by the meadow... because Tooru asked Hiro to suggest it.

* Implied in Tooru’s flashback but possibly unclear: Tooru did make eye contact with Hajime the first time he watched Hajime play. When that happened, Hajime was struck with some kind of feeling he didn’t really understand. Nonetheless it was distracting and so he jumped into the net.

* Mizoguchi followed Hanada to Miyagi. Later she would learn that he got offers from higher ranking schools willing to pay him more (Shiratorizawa, among others) but he chose Aoba Johsai because it was near the university where she coaches.

* Tooru isn’t really a cat person, but he quickly realized that Hajime LOVES them. When they get their first place together, they adopt two black cats.

* Tooru found out that his dad (and Hajime, a couple of times) spied on him during physical therapy. He whined about this being creepy and weird, until Hajime pulled out his phone and started reading The Letter out loud. Tooru hasn’t brought it up since.

* Tooru’s parents tend to spoil him a lot, so they’re thrilled and relieved to have Hajime around. There are times with Hajime is the only person Tooru will listen to, so Tooru’s mom starts to use Hajime to win arguments... without him noticing. Eventually she feels so guilty that she tells him the truth, and Hajime realizes far too late that this totally runs in the family.

* Tooru actually did bet that Hajime would’t show up on the day before the surgery. So did the nurse.

* The conversation Yahaba sort-of overheard during the Karasuno match was actually this:

Mizoguchi: “You did try to recruit Kageyama right?” Irihata: “Of course not. His skills are excellent, but can you imagine Kageyama as our team captain?” Mizoguchi, after a pause: “If I was playing on the team I’d probably quit.”

* Tooru finishes all of his school work in time to graduate, but he didn’t get the chance to prepare for entrance exams. Hajime plans on retaking his with Tooru; in the meantime, he works odd jobs at the hospital.

* Tooru’s influence on other volleyball players was significant. Compared to Haikyuu canon, Kyoutani becomes a less dangerous and more consistent player because Yahaba got to him earlier. Watari doesn’t figure out the libero back row set play until much, much later. Kageyama is far less competitive and slightly less skilled because beating Tooru never became a goal for him. Seijoh doesn’t *quite* have the same reputation because Tooru’s illness and Hajime’s absence made it a very different team. (This is why Tooru wants everyone to “know their names.”)

* Akao was a delinquent (with a heart of gold, but no one knew that back then) for most of his first year in high school. Irihata saw him fighting another student and recognized his athletic ability. He invited Akao to the team and convinced the school that the volleyball club would help put him on the right path; the coach added that he would take personal responsibility for Akao’s future actions.

* The scar on Tooru’s dad’s face was from tripping and falling into one of the outdoor cafe tables, but he sort of likes the fact that people assume he’s a former thug or something so he doesn’t correct them unless they ask.
