Might be a pretty basic take by the standards of more seasoned yuri fans, but it's my perspective as someone who's mostly read yuri in a Touhou context (though a lot of it), and exclusively manga from the Japanese fans as opposed to i.e. written fics.
Touhou yuri (using it very broadly here to describe any kind of wlw shipping present) is, across the board, in a pool of fan literature going back twenty years, remarkably good at taking the lesbian part for granted. Not counting outright het content or works that simply don't bring it up, I have only very vague memories of a character's lesbian orientation being either denied or even brought to question (even in the cliche "But we're both girls!" manner, which even as a somewhat dead horse trope you might still expect to see, given plenty of doujin writing isn't exactly highbrow). You might be able to read "Does she like girls?" between the lines in the usual question of "Does she like me?" if you really want to, but the way it's still basically treated as default is fun to me. There's a reason Touhou basically has honorary yuri status on e.g. Dynasty Reader, even the stories with effectively zero shipping in them. You might not notice if you haven't browsed the site, but it's literally nothing but yuri + Touhou. We even got upload rights just so we could post more Touhou.
(Of course, Touhou being yuri city is part of the reason any hint of straight romance gets a really strong kneejerk reaction from people, including me. But that's also because the lack of usable male characters makes that shipping inherently hamfisted, up to and including literally making up cardboard villager OCs. Basically the only positive example I can remember off the top of my head is Hisona's An Old Poem for the Cuckoo Bird depicting Youki with a 1000-year-old mostly joking crush on Nue, which after some chin-scratching I decided I liked alright. And Hisona of course has plenty of yuri cred to cover for it.)
But although taken for granted, most Touhou yuri is one or more of: a.) On a "blushing maidens thinking about holding hands" level in its approach to romance, b.) Only depicting the starting moments of a relationship, at best - usually just pining, c.) Only off-handedly teasing, basically to acknowledge the ship is there, d.) Showing a very close and loving relationship but leaving the romance part subtextual, even if thinly veiled.
While those are all fine - some of my favorite artists like e.g. Ashiyama undeniably fall under d.) - it means that artists who depict more established couples, and couples that get depicted as more established, stand out. I love when a story is very blunt about two characters, whether the focus is actually on them or not, already being an item. Be it due to a difference in target demographic or what, many of these works seem to have a slight lean towards being more raunchy/horny even when not outright R-18, but I don't actually mind that too much when it does happen - as long as they're fun and raunchy, as opposed to only raunchy or, god forbid, unfun in raunchy ways.
I like how Moyazou depicts Mokou and Keine as basically-married. I like how Atoki depicts YuuParu or SakiYachi after drawing like twenty books of them (each). I like when Kawayabug depicts Tojiko as Miko's beleaguered wife. But the example of the day is obviously risui (of Ladies of Scarlet Devil Mansion), who you might have guessed inspired this ramble. Funnily enough, in LoSDM she seems to have walked back Meiling and Sakuya's relationship coincidentally at the same time she toned down the content to fit SCoOW's guidelines, compared to her usual works that have MeiSaku at a much more established and mutual stage.
But the point stands that it's really fun to see LoSDM almost rub it in your face from the very start - from Meiling's dream to every other conversation she has - that everyone in it is unapologetically and openly lesbian, assumes everyone else to be a lesbian, and doesn't hesitate to talk about it like a (romcom idiot) adult.
Also, risui draw lady very good

disciples of life
read on ao3
pairing: seiga & miko, seiga/miko (implied)
summary: seiga and miko have a conversation in bed.
Work Text:
"So..."
"So."
"How much longer are you going to keep lying to yourself, Crown Prince?"
"...I'm not lying to anyone, Niang Niang."
Seiga and Miko laid in the bed of Miko's royal quarters, indecency covered by a large, shared blanket.
Seiga took a drag from her pipe, blowing out smoke in the opposite direction of Miko. "I assist you in leading this country to greatness and you can't even admit it was built on a lie? Silly, silly you."
"I'm not lying to anyone important," Miko clarified. "Both Futo and Tojiko know everything about me."
"Everything?" Seiga questioned. She tilted her head to the side. "Do they know of your desire to be a woman?"
Miko paused. "...Yes," she said, after great hesitation. "I'm not the only one who feels this way." She then snapped her vision back to Seiga. "And don't you dare spread anything about it, lest I find you dead where you stand by midnight."
Seiga chuckled. "Relax, my Prince. I would never be so cruel. You and I have a lot in common, that." Seiga placed her pipe down after one last breath of it. She placed a hand on Miko's shoulders. "I know how awful being trapped in a situation where your desires are unheard of are. When there are few, if any, who understand you."
"You are an odd teacher, Niang Niang," Miko said, with weakened conviction. "But, my trust in you is true. You, for all your whims, have not let an ounce of betrayal seep into your blood."
"Ah, I wouldn't give me too much praise if I were you," Seiga said, voice loose and sing-song. "After all, I did abandon my family."
"Your family who kept you pinned down," Miko corrected. Her tone then turned teasing. "You told me your tale yourself, one night. Unless dearest Niang Niang had a bit too much to drink that night and doesn't recall?"
"Oh, you wound me! How could you say such cruel things to such a beautiful young woman!" Seiga whined in an exaggerated manner.
"After such a 'beautiful young woman' accuses me of lying, I suppose it's justified," Miko snorted. She then looked questionably at Seiga. "What was that about, anyways?"
"'Those who embrace death will not perish, but have life everlasting,'" Seiga quoted, "and yet you fear death. You are lying to yourself."
"I'm not afraid of death. I welcome it," Miko said. "As my breaths grow weaker and my heart pulses harder each day, I welcome it. For our new rebirth will come."
"Ah, so your fear has been replaced by pride," Seiga observed. "Have you made the arrangements with the Mononobe and Soga yet?"
"Of course. Futo volunteered to go first. We've already prepared for our new looks, and our resting places."
"Wonderful, Crown Prince," Seiga purred. "I eagerly await the day I see you again."
"You talk as if I have passed already," Miko said with a smile.
"You're spending your last days in bed with your mentor. As far as I'm concerned, this may be the last time I see you."
"Hmph. Well, you've extracted quite a bit out of me tonight," Miko said, sinking deeper into her pillow.
"I'm choosing to not make a joke about the wording you used on purpose, because I'm so polite," Seiga said. She then turned over in bed to face away from the other woman. "Stiff and rigid does not a good hermit make, my Prince. Soft and yeilding, forever flowing and growing with life."
"Stiff and rigid does not a good hermit make," Miko repeated, muttering the words.

Felinicity
[Touhou Ship Week Day 3: Adventure. Futo/Tojiko, 1.2k words]
Futo was just about to snap her fingers and hope it was enough to kindle the flames when something made a squeaky mewl behind her as if in protest.
She turned away from the statue — the proper lines to set it ablaze had been elusive regardless, so the distraction hardly mattered — and looked at the path behind her to discover a small furry creature with triangular ears sitting in the middle of it. Its enormous green eyes caught the light like jewels as it stared up at her.
Futo walked over and crouched down in front of the creature. Many curious beasts roamed Gensokyo, but she believed she could remember what Lady Seiga had called this particular type. "Art thou a cat?"
The little animal mewled again, in a manner which might have been agreement or else simply meant it was hungry. As Futo watched, it began licking its paw and swiping its face with it.
"Whence thou comest?" Futo looked around in search of potential cat lairs. It didn't seem like the foliage was about to expel any more of the fluffy creatures, but this cat was certainly much smaller than the few she had seen thus far, with a shorter tail and ganglier frame. Why would a cub be alone in such a place?
She studied the cat's long white whiskers and curious brown stripes before deciding it was not some kind of a youkai ploy but simply a regular animal. A rather charming animal at that, especially as it looked up at her again without fear. As for why it was alone... most likely it was lost. Futo could understand that, at least.
The statue forgotten, she offered the creature her hand and laughed when after a moment's careful study, the cat stepped closer and rubbed its soft face against her knuckles.
"The details don't matter. Just memorise the symbols and—" Tojiko halted her explanation mid-sentence and frowned. "There's something moving inside your sleeve."
"Ah!" Futo raised her arm and turned on her seat to give Tojiko a full view within her sleeve, beaming as the kitten popped its head into the open air. "'Tis my cat!"
"You keep pets now?" Tojiko leaned closer to study the kitten.
The kitten mewed softly and studied Tojiko in turn. It hadn't grown much in the week since Futo had found it, but it was no less curious than it had been back then. It looked just about ready to leap onto Tojiko's shoulder to investigate her more closely.
Futo kept her arm steady. "It enjoys being petted on its head. Thou shouldst allow it to sniff thy hand first— aye, like that." She felt like a proud parent as the kitten leaned into Tojiko's touch and began to purr.
"It's sweet." A smile flickered onto Tojiko's lips as she continued to stroke the kitten's head. "What do cats eat?"
"It finds its own food for the most part. I merely ensure it has water whenever it wishes for it." Futo tilted her head in an attempt to better see the kitten, but the fabric of her sleeve remained in the way. "'Tis a terribly stubborn creature, in truth. It heeds only the few commands it pleases, and when it grows wroth..." She held out her other arm to showcase the scratch marks on the back of her hand.
"Trust you to adopt a pet that'll attack you."
"But 'tis still a most wonderful creature!" Tojiko's comment had been nonchalant, but the flames of affection urging Futo to defend her kitten rose up all the same. "Thou shouldst see how it curls to sleep upon my stomach and chases after ribbons. Look at how charming the shape of its nose is and how lovely its eyes are! I swear that when it wishes to be so, 'tis the sweetest beast to ever walk upon this land."
"Whatever you say." Despite her response, Tojiko seemed just as well-disposed towards the kitten she had the moment before. At the very least, she continued petting it with the appropriate tenderness.
The kitten, on the other hand, had in its typical stubborn fashion decided that while being adored was all well and good, the meadow around them was of far more interest than the safety of Futo's sleeve. It leapt to the ground and confidently strode past Tojiko.
"Ah!" Although it was of little use, Futo couldn't help reaching after the kitten. "Stay close, Tojiko!"
Tojiko, who obviously hadn't been going anywhere and had merely followed the kitten with her eyes, threw Futo a puzzled look. It quickly turned to understanding and then disbelief. "You named the cat..."
"How could I not? 'Twas the only name which suited it."
Tojiko gave her a long, blank stare, followed by an almost equally long stare at the kitten which just then paused and curled up in some tall grass. "...How?"
"At first I named it thus because its eyes made me think of thine. I thought I might strike upon a different name after some time, but the more I have observed it, the clearer the resemblance has become."
There was another pause as Tojiko clearly recounted everything Futo had told her about the kitten and made her judgement on the matter. The verdict was somewhat unclear: her mouth drew into a hard line, but her eyes remained wide, and no sudden thunder crackled in the air.
Finally, she crossed her arms. "I should probably thump you for this."
Futo gave a start. "But I never meant it as an insult."
"That's why I won't bother." Tojiko's eyes returned to the kitten as it gave a tiny yawn before getting up and continuing its swaggering quest across the meadow. "Better a cat than something else."
"...Thinkest thou I would name something vile after thee?"
"I don't."
With that, Tojiko suddenly landed next to Futo on the tree stump. There was just enough room for the both of them between a pair of upturned branches, and so for a while, they simply sat and watched the kitten.
Tojiko was the first to break the silence. "What's it up to now?"
"Methinks it searches for a better place to rest."
"No, I bet it noticed that beetle over there."
As if guided by the words, the kitten stalked over to where a large horned beetle was slowly making its way into the grass and followed it seemingly out of curiosity rather than predatory intent.
"Thou wert right."
Tojiko's smile was unusually sardonic. "You did say we're alike."
Futo laughed. When she stopped, she noticed her and Tojiko's hands had somehow come to rest upon one another.
She heard rather than saw Tojiko turn her head to witness the same phenomenon. For a very long moment, neither of them moved.
Finally, when it seemed the entire world might come to a standstill if she didn't act, Futo quietly interlaced her fingers with Tojiko's. She looked up.
Tojiko met her gaze with wordless understanding.
Futo couldn't tell which one of them first began leaning towards the other. Either way, she soon found her head resting against Tojiko's shoulder as though it had always belonged there while they continued to watch the kitten exploring the world.

Took at small break, but I'm back with the 8th installment of the Patchouli Day Takeover! I did another "haunted house" cover, once again based on the one I did for Marisa Day. I like it a lot! While making this I kept seeing a figure that looked like Patchouli but if she had Tojiko's legs(?), so I imagine you're battling against the ghost Patchouli when this playing. Now why Patchouli is a ghost is something I don't know.

*Throws three ✭s at Miko*
It is headcanon time
Tumblr media
-The encounter she had with her shadow/dream self in AoCF has bothered Miko a lot. She still doesn't understand her own feelings towards Gensokyo or towards youkai. It actually bothers her a lot and mentioning her shadow self and what she said is an effective way to shut Miko up in the middle of a rant.
-As she spent a long time playing the masquerade of being a Buddhist, and legitimately was one for a time before that, Miko knows quite a lot about traditional Buddhism. She hasn't kept up with anything contemporary but she could pray and do their ceremonies perfectly if needed. She just does not particularly have a reason to need to.
-She cares a lot about all of her fellow Taoists but Tojiko is the one she trusts the most. Miko is well aware that Seiga has her own intentions and that they will not always align. Yoshika is first and foremost Seiga's servant ... and also she thinks that on bad days her brain is rotten enough that the Myouren's could probably convince her to work for them. Futo has a tendency to act on her own, she does not do it to betray Miko but it makes her less reliable. Toiko, on the other hand, has someone who has displayed a trustable amount of loyalty. Having maintained at her mausoleum for 2 millennia while they were sealed.

"Well if it isn't Valentine's day! You know, the only saint Gensokyo should be honoring is me, but I'll humor the idea if it's for my loyal steed. This figurine was my favorite back when I still lived my former life as a man. It reminded me of my loyalist follower of all. Perhaps it will serve you well in your coming turf battles."

"Well, shucks. I dunno what t' say, Miko. This gal... C'mere!" Saki opens her arms and brings the saint in for a side hug while pointing at her.
