Was Toby Isaacs the only confirmed Jewish character on Degrassi? It makes me kind of sad that a show which prides itself on representation didn't really represent there.

Since an alarming number of people on here seem to hate Jews (re-labeling the gross insults and lies as "just being anti-Zionist" doesn't fly for myriad reasons), enjoy spouting off slogans associated with notorious Jew killers, and happily ally themselves with terrorist groups whose explicitly stated objectives are to exterminate all Jews not just in Israel but throughout the world, I feel like that representation is more important than ever. Wherever my delightfully nerdy Toby is these days, I hope he's not constantly attacked with threats, assaults, and hatred like countless Jews throughout the world are today. Statistically, though, he probably is.

An unprecedented number of Jews are being threatened with rape and assault on college campuses while encountering "Hitler Was Right" signs and "anti Jewish" protests, 'tolerant' cities like NY (my lifelong home) have Pro-Hamas (which, again, is a TERRORIST GROUP) protestors gleefully yelling "Kill ALL the Jews" in Time Square and beyond, and everything from outright physical violence to more subtle yet vicious antisemitic slurs and threats against Jews are more prevalent than they've been since Hitler rose to power. It's especially sickening when you consider how much Jews have done to advocate for social justice for other marginalized groups throughout the years---and now many of those very same groups are torturing us. So if any Jews on here see this, PLEASE know that you're not alone and still loved by people who are sane and fair.

And if you're an antisemite, please block me. I'm tolerant of all views and need all the followers I can get, but I can't in good faith be friends with antisemites.

Toby Isaacs, thanks for being one of the few Jewish kids on TV at a time when many of us felt almost as scared, unfairly maligned and alone as we do today. I still vividly remember being told in gym class that one kid wasn't allowed to touch me because I was Jewish and being the only person in my class not invited to a friend's birthday party because her parents didn't want Jewish people in their home. (and this was in NY!) And somehow now even as other aspects of society have evolved, hatred for Jews has become even more pernicious. Maybe more representation will bring about gradual improvement, or at least people standing up against antisemitism no matter how "woke" it is to ally with Jew-killing (and women-killing and Black-killing and LGBTQ-killing...) Hamas terrorists these days.

I just watched Toby, Liberty, Emma, and Manny graduate then turn a tassel at JT’s memorial. No I am not okay. Yes I have seen this 100 times and will watch it 100 more.

JT (from the first couple seasons) and Toby are the same are Arthur and Yick. Why? Well, I’m glad you asked.

There’s a plot in DJH where Yick and Arthur try to watch a porno movie. In TNG, there’s a similar plot where Toby and JT watch porn on Toby’s family computer. They are thwarted both times.

JT and Yick are both strangely fascinated with sex, despite never having even dated before (for the first couple seasons obviously)

In both DJH and TNG, there’s a wet dream plot involving those two pairings.

They’re both wholesome sets of best friends who are basically brothers and have had each other’s backs from the start.

Toby Isaacs lost two of his best friends in high school, one of which died right in front of him, and the writers did nothing with his character.

Finally finished Degrassi: The Next Generation after starting the show at the beginning of quarantine all those many moons ago, and I gotta say that it was a VERY wild ride. The show really does go there, and it has made me cry, laugh, and cringe on multiple occasions. I've seen so many Classes cross that threshold and walk outta my life forever (except for certain characters who just always found a way to come back) and I've questioned certain storylines and pondered the question of: What happened to Kendra Mason? One day, I'll delve into the world of Next Class, excited for what's to come but also VERY scared. I'd like to thank Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn for giving me something to keep me company and obsess over. The words "Whatever It Takes, I Know I Can Make It Through" will stick close to me till the end of time.
