is tobias forge a genius (i mean yeah, clearly), or is it just a coincidence that its opus eponymous’s (the album about the birth and coming of the antichrist) 13th anniversary (in the bible, 13 is a number that generally represents satan, evil, wickedness, devils, ect) conveniently when copia is suddenly ‘retiring’? am i clutching at straws? yes.

Ok. How many people are in Ghost? And do people know what they look like without the masks?

Is Papa (?) Pope (?) same person??? Same mask ? different names?

Oh man, there are a lot of people in Ghost, but currently, there are nine members of the band. Eight ghouls and Papa Emeritus IV. There have been many others, mostly those who played the ghouls, but they usually leave on their own terms.

For a long time, people didn't know what the band members looked like beneath their masks. They wanted to remain anonymous, but that didn't last long so now people know what they all look like under the mask.

All of the Papas are played by the same man, Tobias Forge, who wears a different mask for each character. Here's Tender Father below. He's a mad talented genius :D

Onto the Papas! There are four of them and each album has a different Papa as the lead. All of them are brothers with their father being this old fart, Papa Nihil.

He's the only Papa that's not played by Tobias Forge. I'll get back to him a little later.

This here is Papa 1, also known as Primo. He's the first Papa and he's also an old fart. All of them are old farts, but Primo is the second oldest fart behind Nihil.

I honestly don't know much about him, but Ghost started out with him with the album, OpusEponymous. He's crusty and dusty lookin, but the fans still love him. Also, the fandom has collectively agreed that he loves gardening due to a very good cosplayer playing around in a garden.

Next up is Papa 2, also known as Secondo. He looks like an older Pitbull when not in makeup (that's still a mask :'D)

He's the bone daddy and he's pretty intimidating with that stare. He was the frontman for the album, Infestissumam, which fucking slaps holy shit. I highly recommend that one.

Next up is Terzo, who quickly became a fan favorite as Ghost started getting more popular. Lord almighty, this man has most everyone in the fandom acting up. He's horny on main almost 24/7 and it shows lol

With their Grammy hit, Cirice, came the most wanted experience by many ghost fans: Being picked by Papa Emeritus if you're near the stage so he can serenade you and give your hand a smooch. Lord, I'd die on the spot. The charisma is dripping from those gifs, good lord almighty I think I need to fan myself lol

He was behind the Meliora album where it focused less on the devil, which was focused on in the other albums, and more on worshipping the self. The ministry didn't like this and Terzo ended up getting dragged off stage and eventually killed along with Primo and Secondo. Very sad :(, but next up is when things get very good :D

Before Terzo was killed off, we were introduced to Cardinal Copia

He is also a fan favorite and he became the frontman for the Prequelle album once Terzo and the others were killed off. It's very likely that he is also an Emeritus due to Papa Nihil hooking up with Sister Imperator when they were younger.

Anyway, back to Copia. Nihil didn't want Copia leading the band because he wasn't a part of the bloodline, but Sister said he was very good at his job as Cardinal and him having the second most employee of the month achievements convinced Papa Nihil to let Copia lead the band. Nihil wanted to lead, but he's an extra old fart and the band needed someone a bit younger.

So Copia became the frontman and he was goofy, sexy and fabulous!

He wore a lot of tight-ass clothes and he liked to ride around on a lil tricycle both off and on stage. He's the rat daddy :3

And then, everything changed when Papa Nihil died on stage and Copai just rolled out on his lil trike in this video where he became the new Papa. Warning, this video is loud, but it's mostly due to this one guy losing his shit

So, Cardi C turned into Papa Emeritus IV and he's the current Papa right now and I adore him :')

Also, with Cardi becoming Papa, he got plastic surgery (new mask), so he looks a lot different now without makeup. Still love him tho :')

So, Copia is still the frontman and he's on two albums: Prequelle and Impera (which fucking slaps). It's also very likely that he's gonna get killed off at the end of this upcoming summer tour due to this video

The fandom is scared for Copia because we have no idea what's going to go down on 9/11 and 9/12. Those are their last two shows of the tour and no filming from the crowd is allowed, so something big is gonna happen. I don't want rat daddy to die :'D

Anyway, thank you so much for the ask about Ghost! There's a lot of lore, but this pretty much sums it up for the Papas. The ghouls are totally different story since there's so many of them :'D

I've just discovered ghost, how do you find out what the lyrics of this songs mean? I'm curious. Like what does darkness at the heart of my love lyrics mean? And other ones. Any advice on where I can find this stuff out?

HI ANON YOU'RE MAKING ME VERY HAPPY BY ASKING ABOUT MY CURRENT OBSESSION- I mean. I feel perfectly normal about this ask. This being said, I have many many thoughts about lyrics, particularly when it comes to Ghost and similar groups.

Generally, I rely in three main things to interpret their lyrics: reading said lyrics, because sometimes the meaning is quite literal; looking up what other fans think about it; and finding my own interpretation, via whatever I feel reading the lyrics or whatever knowledge I have about the topic (besides being a huge nerd, I'm also a historian, which is pretty useful when dealing with topics such as the plague, witchcraft or, well... Catholic lore in general lol, things referenced in Ghost lyrics).

Also interviews! Althought many times that's just Tobias sitting around, being extremely chill about composing such masterpieces, lmao. I also go to a channel called "Ghost en español", in YouTube which, well, it's in Spanish, but I'm sure there's many more in English. Finally, you can always look up the lyrics in Genius, where you can find some kind of explanations sometimes. For example, about Darkness at the Heart, it says the following:

“Darkness at the Heart of my Love” is a powerful ballad, such as Ghost’s “He Is” or “Life Eternal.” The song talks about indoctrination and trusting people who do not have the best intentions, as Tobias Forge told Metal Hammer:

This is about people promoting all of these values under the guise of being God-fearing and righteous while they practise none of it. It’s just for cash and power.

Anyways, Ghost albums tend to be concept albums or, at least, they follow some kind of shared topic, which reflects on the lyrics.

All in all, I think that, at the end of the day, what really matters is what this songs mean to you and how they make you feel! I might talk about my own interpretations someday... Just for fun!

Sorry for mentioning men on this blog but I am having a blast with the music and the entire concept of Ghost right now. And it made me think how absolutely amazing it would be if there was a similar concept, a similar character like the papas but female. Please give me a scary powerful nun or queen or something. Old (and not "conventionally pretty"), problematic (lol), "scary" aesthetic, the humor, the charisma..

It's so intriguing to me mainly for the reason that we rarely see women, especially popular singers, be allowed to be all of the above mentioned things. Especially the "old" part. The papas having these fantastic masks is genius! And that also made me think.. Can you imagine a sweet/young looking woman putting on the mask/makeup of a not-pretty 50+ year old character to make music (metal/goth/rock.. whatever)? The label would probably tell her that her face is the best thing about her so hiding it behind something "ugly" would be considered a bad move. But how insanely cool would that be?? I admire Tobias Forges work and I love how incredibly fun Ghost is. And part of why I feel like that is because his characters are quite unconventional and creative. But it also made me a bit sad that it's still way more accepted for a man to be and do these things than it is for a woman. And that in turn made me imagine things I would love to see someday in the entertainment/music industry. Also the older aged sister Imperator is hot

oh this is such a hard question haha. im gonna go with what song ive listened to the most rn bc it's a 'on repeat' for me, but it's As Above, So Below by Jutty Ranx haha. I love the music, the way it starts slowish but then picks up by the chorus <333

on tumblr, specifically, uh it's just an amalgamation of my name (lee) and the word bakery in French lmao (boulangerie), but other places I use either leeoser or leeooser haha.

aloe vera - what's something mundane you really want to experience in life?

i want to stand in the woods at night and listen to the sounds, which is weird I know, but like...ive always wanted to do that despite it being like...dangerous?

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness -- its an amazing book AND movie! but like, it hit me so close to home after my mom's passing (it deals heavily with a mother passing because of illness) and it was such an amazing cathartic cry for me, but i could not do it again

i get the chorus stuck in my head all the time, it's oddly catchy to be singing about y'know....death bahaha. I just love the overall sound tbh, like I used to listen to a lot of bands that sound like Subvision ngl, so this fits in so well with what I already listen to. and tobias forge is a lyrical genius bahaha
