This is the lead vocal track of Mary On A Cross - no harmonies/backing vocals, no music, only Tobias's take. The real deal, so to speak, not the kind that's isolated artificially through vocal isolating software. Hope you enjoy.

I don't know which new fan of Ghost needs to hear this, but you're not a "fake" or "lesser" fan because you got into the band because of the song Mary on a Cross.

Complementary to my previous post, this audio features Mary On A Cross harmonies without the lead vocal. The modus operandi for most Ghost songs is similar - in the studio, Tobias records his vocals multiple times, each with a different pitch. These recordings are then layered together to achieve a more robust and enriched sound. A lengthy and complex process. What you can hear in this audio is mainly one of the vocals which was layered with the lead one. For the final harmonies, apart from Tobias (and yes, he's doing the highest harmonies too!) you can also hear Vincent Pontare's voice joining in towards the end. I posted that final part minus the background music on my Twitter, if you'd like to hear it more clearly.
I think due to the TiktTok popularity, MOAC is now sometimes dismissed as overrated but in my opinion it's one of Ghost's best compositions to date, really showcasing how Tobias & the people he writes with can create pieces both accessible and intricate - it takes a lot of craftsmanship and musicality to do so! The layered vocals and harmonies are a staple of the band's sound by now, I think, and my nerdy brain always tries to pick them out of the mix, so this track has been particularly fascinating 🤓 Anyway, enjoy.
